[Q] Can't boot into recovery mode - Droid X General

I just rooted my Droid X using z4root, after performing a factory reset. Before I go ahead and install a custom rom, I wanted to backup my phone, but when I attempt to reboot into recovery using the Droid X Bootstrap app, my phone boots back to the regular dashboard.
If I reboot my phone while holding the power and home buttons, and press the search key at the caution screen, I get the usual menu: reboot system, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe data, and wipe cache. On the bottom of the screen in yellow I get the message:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Thanks in advance for the help.

I figured this out myself. I stupidly did not bootstrap recovery. Download Koush's Droid X Bootstrap recovery in the market to fix this.

The method as you tryed is stock recovery, if you try to enter CWM recovery
after rooted, you must install Defy system recovery
- put system recovery.apk into SD card
- enable(Turn on) Unknown sources and USB debugging in Application settings
- install system recovery.apk from SD card (Use File manager or Root Explorer)
- Open System recovery App and Select Install Recovery system, it will show "Install success"
- Before reboot (Recovery reboot), you must Turn off "USB debugging"
Otherwise, defy will stuck in black screen
OK, If you want to reboot to CWM recovery mode, you can open System recovery App and Select Recovery boot
or Try that

What I always do when I flash something and it goes wrong is enter bootloader mode and flash a new sbf. I'm fairily sure to do that you hold power and volume up while booting.

I mistakenly rebooted after wiping cache, dalvik cache and sytem. Now I'm stuck at the moto logo. Is there any way to enter into custom recovery other than the flashing method you specified above?? I was using SlimBean(Slim-4.3.build.2-UNOFFICIAL-2013027-1124) with TWRP v2.6.3.0.

[Q] Defy - no boot and no recovery after root

Hi, - I'm a noob in this.
I'm working on my Motorola Defy and my Ubuntu 13.04 machine.
I:
1) Rooted my device using these guides: "wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_jordan"
and
.ibm.com/developerworks/community/blogs/coolwinding/entry/how_to_root_defy_on_linux1?
2) I got the CyanogenMod installed and it worked. I needed to install Gapps so I followed this guide
linux.com/learn/tutorials/698725-how-to-install-cyanogenmod-on-an-android-phone
3) When I tried rebooting my phone to install Gapps I couldn't boot into the recovery utility. I only had the possibilities: "reboot system now", "apply sdcard:update.zip", "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition".
I tried them all (I was really stuck!) but after the wipe data/factory reset I can't even boot in the Rom, so now I'm totally stuck with these four options as all there is!
In the bottom I get:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/caller
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
- I see these are common but it is always resolved by booting the phone in the rom and I'm not able to do that.
I read that the Defy is not easily bricked, but what is there to do now? adb can't find the device from the SDcard only.
What2do?

*In my opinion you should start again from clean SBF if you don´t know how to flash it in LINUX Guide is HERE(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076138). Just make sure you are flashing the right SBF for your Phone.
*THEN root it as it is said here (https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/...ding/entry/how_to_root_defy_on_linux1?lang=en) *Alow USB debugging and unknown aplications and install 2ndinit apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212)
*THEN reboot and watch your phone, wait for the blue LED turns on and pres volume down.
*Select custom recovery and flash for example CM7 from HERE (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=stable&device=jordan) and GAPPS (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip) and reboot
*Now you have CM7 and working phone
** You can try CM10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702), CM10.1(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013059) by Quarx ...... FOR CM10.1 you need MINI GAPPS (http://d-h.st/users/tejus.k.v)
Sorry for my English

It worked! Thank you very much. I'm SO tired now.
In order to install zips you have to reboot to clockworkmod recovery by pressing vol down when the defy boots up showing the blue led instead of entering the stock one

[Q] Can't boot into custom recovery

Hi everyone, I am hoping someone on this site can help me with my issue. I have the SPRINT GS4
My goal was to root my phone, install a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) and then install the stock Android 4.2 google play edition rom. (Basically I want my S4 to be running 4.2 Vanilla Android)
I am new to all this so I did some research and followed a couple tutorials on youtube.
As far as I can tell I was able to successfully ROOT my device. Titanium Backup says its rooted and so does the superuser app in my app drawer.
Here is where I run into my issue.
When I try to access my custom recovery (Holding down Volume up, home, and power) it takes me to a screen that says:
Android System Recovery<3e>
Reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Applied the CSC-code : SPR
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
(This screen also has the image of the green android guy laying on its back with its chest opened up and red exclamation mark above it)
I don't know what I am supposed to do here. I have tried the app goo manager and clockwork manager to install the custom recovery and reboot into recovery but both give me errors and it wont work. What do I Do?
open goo manager and press menu key (bottom left)
pick install openrecoveryscript let it download you will get TWRP 2.6
if you get an error downloading twrp in goo manager try again

How are you rebooting into recovery ? I do not think you install TWRP properly make sure phone is rooted and try goo manager again make sure it actually downloads the app it will take few minutes to download.
i had similar problem were i thought goo manager install TWRP but in fact it never did
1. turn off phone hold volume up / home and power button simultaneously and as soon as you see a blue text on top left corner release all the buttons you will be in recovery.
2. from goo manager there is an option reboot recovery
3. i instal the 4-in-1 Reboot Menu Mod - if you slecet restart it will give you option to reboot into recovery

Have no internal storage and can't install any ROMs

I gave my old phone Defy Red lens to a friend. He messed around with bootloader and now the OS does not see any internal storage so i can't install any bootloaders.
Can't acces custom bootloader.
I can only acces a recovery mode but my options are limited.
I did a full wipe and cache wipe from the recovery mod but i only managed to get inside os but all data resets everytime and there is no storage as stated before.
Please check attached photos for more information on build etc.
I tried RSD lite but it won't see phone while in recovery mode.
Any help is appreciated.

Bootloader is already in the phone, you must be talking about custom recovery. When you reboot your phone, a blue LED will light up. Immediately push volume down, then choose recovery->Teamwin recovery.
To enter bootloader, switch off your phone, then first press volume up then power button, keep them pressed until the screen lights up a little, then let them go. A screen appears, which is the bootloader. This is needed for RSDLite.
About your problem, download AROMA/full wiper zip. Go to custom recovery, then press install and choose the zip. Choose EXT4 and wipe system, data and cache. DO NOT REBOOT. After that, immediately flash a ROM+Gapps.
By the way, when you cleared data and cache in stock recovery (the one in the photo), they were formatted to ext3, which led to those problems.

[Q] Strange Rooting Problem

A friend of mine with a Google Nexus 4 attempted to root on 4.4:
"The unlocking of the bootloader went without a hitch, and I downloaded the CWM non-touch from here:http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager, in the "Nexus 4" row, and "Download Recovery" column, named "6.0.4.3". I placed the file on the desktop, flashed it onto the phone, and booted into it using the volume keys and the power button to select "Recovery mode" on the bootloader screen. From there, I wanted to reboot the phone, so I clicked the first option, the "reboot system now" selection. I received the message "ROM may Flash stock recovery on boot. Fix? THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.", and not wanted to do anything to mess up the installation, clicked the "*****Go Back*****" option. And then I received another message saying, "Root access is missing. Root device? THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE." Again, I clicked the "*****Go Back*****" option, not wanting to mess up the recovery. It suddenly booted into the stock ROM, showing the Google screen with a little unlock symbol at the bottom. Then it moved on to the Kit Kat boot sequence, the one with the 4 different colored circles and all that. I waited for it to boot back into the stock ROM, but it stayed on that screen, a bootloop. I then proceeded to hold the power button to turn it off. I booted it again, and it bootlooped again. So I went back to CWM and wiped the data/factory reset, wiped the cache partition, and went into advanced and wiped the dalvik cache. Then I rebooted it once more, and it bootlooped once again. So now I've turned it off, and am attempting to find a solution to fix this. As a last resort, I can always unroot it and wipe the data again. But I would prefer to not to have to re-unlock and re-flash the phone, unless there is no other option. During this entire period, the phone was connected by USB cable to the computer, up until I wiped the data and caches, where I unplugged it, and allowed it to boot."
*****So overall, after installing CWM, the phone was put into a bootloop. factory reset was done, as well as wiped cache partition and dalvik cache*****
is there a way to get the device rooted, without using the traditional unroot method? I feel as if the error (if any) was simple, therefore there should be a simple solution. Thanks!
