Why did they graph the phones by OS, when people weren't voting on the OS. iPhone is at a disadvantage here, because it has so many other phones to compete against that share the same OS. The graph doesn't show that over 40% of people chose the iPhone.
Statistics...you have to love them. You can make them say anything you want.
p.s. I did vote for my lovely EVO.
I think I would get....the Evo!
Out of the current market I am still very happy with my Evo. If carrier were not an issue maybe I would get one of the new HTC line but only because they are slightly higher spec. There's nothing else out there that I am itching to get at the moment and I see myself staying that way until next summer when something new comes out that is a significant enough bump up to justify my yearly $199 gift to myself.
iphone 4 no just kidding im an evo fanboy
I miss my Dash (Excalibur)
It's not on the list but I would snatch up the Nokia N9 in a hot second! That thing is shmexy!
Another EVO4G!!!!!!!!!
Duh
the Evo what else?!
Other than an Evo, probably a Nexus One.

Still dig my Evo, its the best on Sprint if you ask me, not a fan of the epic. Since I like Sprint I'll stick with my Evo.

I choose phones based on carrier...so EVO for me. If I was out of contract I'd consider the G2 or DroidX...but I'm afraid of what the iPhone on Verizon would do to their networks.
I really like the Sanyo zio shell. Give me that body with evo insides and I'm game

If it worked on a US carrier: Desire HD w/ a AOSP ROM.
If I could only choose one current phone: iPhone 4.
...but if it didn't have the rootkit or if it was guaranteed to be cracked: the G2.
I would get an iPhone 4 straight up.
EVO

Out of those listed, probably the Torch.
Good and heavy paperweight.
I had an Epic before I exchanged it for an EVO. Give me the Epic but with HTC Sense. I hated Samsung's cheeze whiz UI. Too cartoony and child like for my tastes. But since I can't have that, the EVO simply does it for me. The thing is sexy!
I had the first gen Iphone, switched to G1, then mytouch then now my EVO... and definitely EVO tops all of the above mentioned!
Gave up 2 etch e sketches (iphones) already for 2 EVOs thanks to AT&T screw you customer attitude.
As far as smartphones..they are all dumb phones until rooted. That is when the rightful owner.. yes the consumer..us.. gets to take full advantage of their potential.
This is not a bash thread. I owned the epic for roughly 4 months. It is a very good phone. Reason I dropped it was due to it felt cheap. The phone was pretty loose concerning the slider. Also I never used the keyboard. The amoled screen is nice but I needed a bigger screen. So I switched to the evo. And from what I can tell during normal everyday use is that its just as fast. I don't game and I know the epic is better for gaming. I still think the epic is a damn good phone. Just sharing my experience. Also even with gps turned on so far the battery life on the evo is a little bit better. It does not get hot during web browsing like the epic did.
Im still here though. Been here since the epic launched and still glad to try to help other if they need it.

My only complaint with Samsung is the software. They make awesome hardware, though. I think they do it on purpose because if they matched a software engineer to eke out everything from the hardware, you wouldn't really care about buying a new phone so much.
Even though Samsung sucks at supporting their Products, it'll be hard to go to any inferior screen.

Not sure how you can get better battery life on a stock EVO. The hardware in the Epic is simply more power efficient than the EVO, it's a fact.

Love the epic...agree the slider mech sux....
Ive never seen a problem with the sliding mech. Matter a fact I also have a moment and the intercept and those mechs are fine as well. I don't see how they're bad.
Anyway At this point jumping to the Evo isn't a bad idea at all if you want to. All of this "Epic is just a better machine" means squat when it's not even updated with an official Froyo yet. It's like having the most advanced yatch in a desert.
I for one love my epic but the second something esle comes along. I think i'll be leaving myself. Unless the device that comes along is also made by samsung. Then no thanks.

Well stock 2.2 battery life so far is great. Stock for stock there pretty close honestly. The epics display eats a ton of battery.
Also another thing I am noticing. On the epic I used roam control due to no sprint signal at work. If I left it on automatic the epic would lose signal, the radio would then reset itself 2 times before it would go to roam. So I used roam control to just roam only. On the evo it seemlessly switches between home and roam without completely losing the radio.

No it doesn't. Its actually much more efficient than the Evo's.

Agreed. The Tegra 2 LG Optimus looks pretty appealing, if it gets the advertised battery life. Wonder if it'll come out for Sprint.
That said, I do play some Super Mario now & then on the Epic. The keyboard + Game Gripper is nice for that. I can't do the screen controls, too slow.
I love the Epic to death, but Samsung support sucks.
To the person mentioning switching ... HTC shift.
I know a few buddies who went from the epic to the Evo. Both good devices. Sprint kind of limited.

Evos a great phone. I had both the epic and the evo, switched back and forth for awhile before deciding in the Epic. The epic IMO is quicker, but the development on the Evo may have changed that by now, idk. I will say that my evo always had better battery life than my epic. Same apps and same usage, both with the Evo on 2.1 and 2.2. Battery isnt a big deal to me personally tho since I always keep a spare battery. Enjoy your Evo. I personally miss the development compared to the epic, but im hopeful that that will changer soon. If you end up not liking it, sell it. I sold mine for twice what I paid. My wife just sold her second evo for $550 cash off craigslist.

I've had a person on Craigslist practically begging me to switch his 1 month old Evo, for my epic. I have been really torn between what to do. I really like this phone, and it is only gonna get better when 2.2 offically releases and the source code drops. I think I would regret it if I traded and it turned out the epic is being pushed beyond what any other phone has done before performance wise with the release of the source. T-mobile just got their release for 2.2 today, so hopefully we are not far behind (ya I know, we are on CDMA).
Whoa.... Vibrant got an official update? I didn't see anything on those forums...

The epic is my first samsung. I always have HTC from the ppc 6700 to the evo. I switched from the evo. Even tho I do agree the epic feel's cheap, but it does have better hardware than the evo.
Deal breaker for me was the camera, I was Surprised how crappy the evo was to take pic's, but at least the epic sux's less, it's actually pretty good.
Development is slower, but it's still gets plenty of love. I for one don't plan on flashing every other day.

If its the release that I think your speaking of. It was for T-Mobile (UK) not T-Mobile (USA). I thought the same thing once I read about it, but read more and its for the UK.
I have both the Epic and the EVO. I love both phones, but I like the EVO a bit better. I'm sure my reasoning is totally different from others (as expected). I would love to compare the two with 2.2, but for obvious reason I cannot. I'm VERY tempted on rooting my Epic finally. Battery life (for me, as I cant speak for others) have been great on both. But again, everyone has their different uses on their phones.
Well imop, I wouldn't of down graded... When they come out with a better phone damn near every 6 months. I would've stuck with the Epic till something better came out ( like the dual processor ) thats coming... But if you got-it like that just to buy 500 dollar phones because it feel cheesy ( And I agree ) then you made the right decison...

In my opinion, I think the Epic is a great phone, the only complaint I would make is the battery life. Then again I use my phone constantly and run many tasks at the same time, but I'm sure emulators don't help either lol. As for the slider, that made all the difference when debating on buying an epic or evo. Even if it is a little loose the qwerty is almost perfectly spaced and is probably the best one i have used on any phone (and I have gone through a lot). As for the software we all knew that Samsung sucked at providing it, but thanks to hard working people there are plenty of ways to get the newest android versions through ROMs which don't take too much work to use.
Personally I don't plan on changing my epic until it can no longer support newer android versions, but that's just me
Here is the link, 1 of out of 2 I saw today for T mobile customers getting Froyo for their Galaxy S phones.

Okay, first of all I want to know which will be a better phone for my brother. I am aware that EVO 3D will be released soon and the Nexus S has been out for a while (new to sprint but been out for a while ) .
So my big brother has a epic and in his own words, "wants a new badass phone to replace his epic." Should he just buy the Nexus S or wait for the release of the Evo 3D?

I'm guessing he got the epic because he needed a keyboard otherwise he would i bought the evo. That said, does he need a keyboard because neither of those phones has a physical qwerty keyboard. If this assumption is not true, I would grab the Evo 3D only because it is going to be more powerful that the Nexus S.
I have a Evo which I avsolutley love. I just had my mom go get the nexus s 4g and I can say not very many phones give me phone envy but the nexus is soooo sexy. Thin and powerful plus the screen is gorgeous. If your brother cares about looks and latest software I would go nexus s. But the evo 3d is a whole nother monster. All of its specs are top of the line with new features that are sure to please. Honestly if he is looking for the next basses phone wait a couple more weeks and pick up the 3d everything I've heard makes me drool and HTC just knows how to make awesome phones. Hope this helps!

He bought the epic because he broke his previous phone and at the time the evo was still on back order. Sprint customer service told him they had no clue as to when they would have the evo in stock so he went with the epic. The keyboard is not an issue, he actually seldomly uses the keyboard. Battery life would be his biggest issue. Thanks.
You could say the HTC EVO had a good run and still to this day has an advantage over its competition, but now with the arrival of newer and beefier-spec'd phones, the EVO is already one foot in the grave...or is it? Let us be proud of what the EVO gave to us that other phones didn't for months...
1.) America's first WiMax/4G phone - We've enjoyed running a 4G network for 4 or so months before other carriers hopped onboard
2.) first Android phone with front facing camera - it didn't take long for other competitors to have one, IPhone4 for example..but ours was fully functional, no wifi only.
3.) the kickstand - not the first phone with a kickstand. it kickstarted the trend into other HTC phones- Inspire 4G, Thunderbolt. i don't see the competition having kickstands on their phones...or maybe they just don't care about it.
4.) Android OS - what other phones can say they have run Eclair, Froyo and NOW Gingerbread in the span of their lifetime?
5.) the XDA community - the best support from the developers with the most ROMs than any other phone available. there's almost two-hundred roms available according to the list at PPC geeks...although half of those are not supported anymore..but still that is alot of roms...
there are probably more i can't remember. feel free to chime in.
in summary, i'm still keeping my EVO even when i'm gonna replace it soon with something better. nope not going to trade it in or sell it on ebay. love my evo.
This has been the best phone I have ever owned hands down. When I get my 3d, this will be staying in the family. My eldest daughter is just dying for me to give her my evo, so I guess I will.

The EVO the best phone I have used I just hope HTC and sprint keep working on updates for it. Hopfully we will see a new sence version sometime soon.

In July, I will have it for a year. First phone I kept for more than 6 months (not including my old Nokia 8260 from almost a decade ago, which I had for ALMOST a year). I just discovered rooting and flashing ROMs, so honeslty... I'll probably keep it even longer! With all the different ROMs etc... It's almost like a different phone with every flash!
Today, I have used my EVO for one full year. That is the longest I have ever used the same model phone consistently... in my entire life. And it is definitely still not slow.
Only phone that I have had that hasn't felt obsolete after a month. Our Evo has stayed on the front lines for a whole year!! I am a proud owner.

I didn't get mine until last August, but this phone has hands down been the best phone I have ever had! I had a pretty bad track record of only keeping phones for a few months and moving on. 10 months later, I'm still rockin' it, with Sense 3.0, and still loving everything about it!
I've had mine for a little over 2 months now. The reviews from peers were what made me get it then and not wait for the 3D (well and the ? about rooting the 3D)
I love it so much, my wife just got one so we could be the same. It's clearly the best phone I have ever owned.

I've had my EVO since Google I/O last year. I was considering moving to Nexus S 4G but have decided to stick with the EVO due to strong Dev support. CM7 specifically. Also great kernel support and battery with tiamat.
I think I'll stick with the EVO until I/O next year.
I love this phone. If I didn't just get a tablet then I'd be itching for a new phone. Now that I have a tablet though... I hardly tinker with the phone anymore haha.
I got my EVO last summer. As soon as I saw my brothers, I had to have one. I plan on keeping mine for a while. It has been fun flashing roms and using the apps. I am still happy with mine.
Just an fyi the nexus one went eclair-froyo-gingerbread first.

If you're gonna trade UP, do a 3devo, not a 2 generation old cpu on evo. That's called "downgrading" regardless of ROM community.
Basically it doesn't matter since both phones are at the end of their life, so even if you do trade you probably won't have the phone 3 months from now....

Epic blows the evo away hardware wise and were about to get gingerbread and cm7 etc etc etc and our developers are pretty solid IMO. I wouldn't do it personally. My gf has an evo and I've set hers all up and I def prefer my epic

Epic's SAMOLED screen tops Evo's washed out display
Epic has hardware keyboard, Evo does not
Epic has high quality 5MP cam, Evo has cheaper quality 8MP
Epic has superior Hummingbird chip, Evo has outdated snapdragon chip
Those are the reason I choose my Epic over an Evo any day.
Also...(although this might be more of an opinion) we might have less ROM's but they def make it up with their awesome *quality*, while the Evo has more of a *quantity*

This. It'd be silly of you, OP, to get the Evo due to it's successor the Evo 3D. Sure, the Evo has Sense 3.0 and cm7 support, but with the Evo 3D around the corner, the future of any more progression may not be so great. I say keep the Epic; the phone's community is growing more and more nowadays and the future of this phone will be much more rewarding, I guarantee.
Plus, we have Odin, so you never have to worry about bricking your phone.
Yeah, I talked to the guy and said No... I'll be sticking with the epic.... However, even though all the "evo guys left to 3d" they still have way more devs than we do. Some of their roms like Synergy look AMAZING, I really wish the Epic would get to that point in the near future.... I mean, epic is obviously a better phone, quadrant on gb pulls consistent 2800+ compared to evos bare 2100, but the Evo just has great roms...

Agreed on that. But wait until we have Gingerbread source and we should be getting some really good development.
EC05 got pretty good development, but right now our community just happens to focus on leaks more right now,
Once the leaks simmer down and Gingerbread is officially released w/ its source code and everything, we should be getting more goodies.
I really hope so... the only real devs we have are like the cm team and some of the miui team.....
Read the g1 forums. They got honeycomb and all kinds of twacked out crap. Mytouch 3g.... these phones don't get good TIL they are end of line.
