Do you really need a working internet connection/Wifi in order for a navigation application to work properly?
No copilot and many others have onboard maps

IGO uses no internet/wifi but you need to download maps. PM me if you want a link.
is there anyway or anywhere to get google maps on the shift without the latitude app? i just hate seeing it in my app list! i never use it and i don't see available to freeze in titanium. is it just part of maps?
Yeah latitude, places, and navigation are all part of maps.
Ok. My problem is that while trying to upgrade to a newer version of Google Maps (5.6), I had to uninstall my older version (5.2) using Titanium Backup app. But I did not know that removing Google Maps would also remove Navigation, Places & Latitude. Now all of them are gone from my phone and the new package of Google Maps (version 5.6, size 6.39MB) is also NOT INSTALLING on the phone! So what is the remedy left now? Can I download Google Maps from the Market to install it on my phone?
You should be able to just dl maps from the market to get everything back, and I'm pretty sure if u try to get rid of latitude ,or any of the others, google maps just keeps force closing

Hello,
I've rooted my Wildfire and as I'm not in US, I've uninstalled the original Maps app and replaced it with the hacked version of Maps 5.7 that has unlocked navigation (also so that I don't have 2 Maps apps on my phone). However, now all apps (including maps) cannot find the location using the network location mechanism, only if I turn on GPS, then the location can be found (I also need to be outside for the GPS to work, but that is normal). Using the location via the mobile network doesn't work at all. Is there a fix for this, or do I somehow need to reinstall the original maps? I use the stock HTC froyo ROM.
Thanks a lot.
Cheers...
I also use the hacked maps, but network based locations works well. Anyway i downgraded to a lower maps version because the fonts in newer versions are not very clear on my wildfire.

Unfortunately all apps like glympse, runtastic, endomondo ...needs access to google maps that doesn´t work on my ROM. Therefore I am looking for an app like glympse that doesn´t need maps (like navigon does not need maps).
The same problem with tasker that I cannot install either.
Anybody an idea?
Try Waze, its a fantastic satnav app, that doesnt need maps. Linkable with foursquare and facebook (if you wish) and u can calculate the fastest way to ur destination by avoiding heavy traffic! (With help of other waze users)
Great navigator!

Hi. I had installed Jelly2.1 ROM and I noticed that I am missing the Navigation App?
I tried looking for it in Google Play but can't seem to find it.
Where can I download the apk?
Thanks a lot.
I believe it is installed with Google maps. I thought I have installed it directly from play store. When I read the description for Maps it lists turn by turn navigation.
So try the Maps app it should install maps, navigation, and local.

Navigation is a part of Maps. They're a package deal. Do you have Google Maps installed?
I had uninstalled Google Maps and re-installed it and it is back. thanks a lot for the replies.
