I have the following problem with my HTC Touch HD. Since yesterday after i transfered 2 video files and a few pictures, when i connect it through USB, the computer doesn''t detect HTC anymore (nor syncing nor file transfer). Even the Bluetooth syncing does not work. I performed several soft and hard resets, and it seems it;s getting worse after every reset.
I bought the phone 2 weeks ago, after i sold my Apple iPhone 3G 8GB. As we speak, i kind of regret i did that...any advise for me ?
I forgot to mention: when i plug the uSB cable, the device goes recharging.
Have you tried booting your pc ?
Also try unchecking Settings/connections/Usb to Pc/ "enable faster data synchronization"
r
Andrew
What cable do you use? I had similar problems with non original (asus) usb cable.
greetings everybody..
1) i tried what you said several times, no result.
2) i get same results with the original and the other cables..
3) i noticed one thing . . . if i connect the device to a computer that i never conected before the device, it launches active sync....and Active Sync just wont interact with my device.
Did you try reinstalling ActiveSync on your PC?
yes i tried....same result. Do you think a change of ROM would solve that ?
Now, even a syncronisation using bluetooth is almost impossible, since i cant pair the computer and the device. Damn, it's like a virus or something.
stupid thought:

Impossible since i cannot connect using USB. Sorry !
I too had problems with my PC not recognizing the HD. Found out that it was a problem with my firewall and anti-virus. I adjusted anti-virus settings to allow active sync to pass through and have had no problems after that.
HTC also recommends going to Start --> Settings --> Connection tab --> USB to PC and deselect the checkbox for "Enable faster data sync"
For device recharging when plugged in to USB : go to Start --> Settings --> System tab --> Power. here below the battery charge indicator, there is a checkbox. Read the message and check/uncheck as desired.
Hope this helps !!
i thought one potential source for my problem would be the antivirus, but i disabled firewall (eset at work and symantec end point protection at home) and no result what so ever.
I cand figure a way to sync the device even with the bluetooth since i cannot pair the device and the computer.
I am starting to regret i bought HTC...
Try click the Activesync icon on HD Program, there is a "Option" on the menu, click and see if you could delete all the old connect. If yes, re-establish the connection again to see.....good luck
Option menu item is disabled (i performed several hard resets)...(
Another thing i noticed. I unchecked the box (when connected to USB charge), so now when i plug the usb cable, it wont charge. But, if the device is in stand by (black screen), and i plug the usb cable, it wakes the device up. So, in my mind, i think it is something wrong with the OS, it still "feels" the USB cable, but cannot (for an unknown reason) take the necesary action.
For 4 hrs i try to sync the device with the computer using bluetooth, and i cannot manage to do so.
Is there any way to reinstall ActiveSync on my HTC device ?

Tonight i will try to install at home Windows VIsta (at work and at home right now i have XP). I cannot use my phone - no phone number in agenda and it's driving me mad. The phone rings and there are quite a few persons i dont want to talk with.. HEEEEEELP
nobody there to help me ?
If you did a hard reset, and you can connect in drive mode, but can not sync, then I am 99.9% sure that there is nothing wrong with your phone, but that your computer is messed up.
Uninstall all your antiviruses, firewalls, and other bloatware, and see if it works then.
Just a possible solution, but did you try plugging in your phone into other USB slots on your PC? Are you perhaps trying to sync it through an USB extension cord, or maybe USB hub? I had problems with my PC recognizing the THD if I tried syncing that way. Best results were plugging it directly into the back side of the casing.
The reason I'm asking this is that if you have too many USB devices plugged in, it's possible that the USB voltage drops too low and devices won't connect to the computer.
I tried on 5 different computers, all available USB ports.
On a new computer, sometimes on the device screen it shows up Active Sync but that is all, no sync occurs. If i try again on that computer, i get the same result as i get using the computer at home or work.
The device cannot conect as a Disk Drive
Is there a way to reinstall Active Sync on HTC ? My guess is that this software is all gone with the wind (even i performed a hard reset). The big question is what the hell happened ? Could be a ROM fault ? I mention i never tried to change ROM, the only software i installed was S2U2 and Core Player.
If by monday it wont work, then i'll send it into service (i have warranty). But i hate service
all out of ideas...
Any ideas ?
Which items are checked when you go to Settings/connections/Usb to Pc/ on youre phone?
Have you tried to use another memory card (because youre problems started with copying)?
Just got my samsung focus and also just downloaded the zune software. Im having a problem getting the music to go to my phone.
I have ares music downloader where all my music is, my brother sent all his music to itunes, and i am sending the music from ares to zune. When he sends his music to itunes to his iphone it goes through pefectly fine.
When i send my music from ares to zune then to my phone it says Cant purchase due to a temporary service error. Please try again later. Why is it saying this, is it trying to make me purchase music i have already payed for again??
Ok I've been using a Zune since the first Zune 30 Gb came out so here's what you need to check.
1) Make sure your zune software is pointing to your music libraries by going into Settings/Software/Collection there you will be able to manage what Music, Video, Pictures, and Podcast libraries you want the software to see. Now the other thing you might want to look at is your phone's sync settings. I have everything set to "Items I choose" because I don't want everything syncing over. In settings select phone. There you can choose how and what to sync.
2) now to get music on your phone, if your libraries are correct all your music should show up in the collection tab which is located at the top with quickplay, marketplace, and social. Once there you can select and drag and drop the music you want on to your phone. The other way which I find easier, is to make a playlist of the music you like then drag and drop the playlist to your phone. Then the music will be synced over per what's on your playlist.
Hope this helps.
Well another thing is when i go to zune software its not even finding the phone anymore, its saying please connect device
How are you connecting your phone? USB or Wifi?

It should start the zune software when you hook it up using usb, I don't do the wifi sync because I rather have it charging while syncing. If not you might have to un install and re install the zune software.

Wi-fi sync requires that your phone is charging. Instead of plugging into the computer, you're plugging it into the wall adapter.
Im plugging it in with the usb connector straight into the computer

Ok, then have you tried any of the following?
1) Restart your phone
2) Restart your computer
3) Try plugging the usb cable into a different USB port

If it has to charge while using wifi then why use it, you need your computer anyways to sync it. lol
things to try:
Unlock your phone
If Screen Lock is enabled on your phone and this is the first time you have connected your phone to your computer, or if you are connecting your phone as a guest to a new computer, unlock your phone first. To do this, turn your phone on and then flick your finger upward on your phone's screen until you can see the keypad for entering your password. Then enter your password.
Name and update your phone
If this is the first time connecting your phone, you must first give it a name and check for updates after you are prompted. If you click Cancel you will have to disconnect and reconnect your phone.
Restart your computer
Disconnect your phone from your PC, restart your computer, and then reconnect your phone to your computer using the USB cable that came with your phone.
Restartyour phone
Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds until the message "Goodbye!" appears. Press the Power button to turn the phone on again.
Note If the phone does not turn off normally, remove and then reinsert the battery.
Try another USB port
Connect your phone to a USB port on the back of your computer. Do not use a USB hub.
Note Be sure to use the USB cable that came with your phone.
Examine Windows Device Manager
Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
Click Device Manager.
Click the root computer icon at the top of the list and then click Scan for hardware changes under the Action menu. Windows Phone 7 should be listed under Portable Devices. If Windows Phone 7 was installed incorrectly, it may be listed with a yellow exclamation mark (!). Or, it may be listed under Other Devices as a USB device or an unknown device.
Double-click the phone icon and then click the Driver tab. The current version of the driver that is installed should be 4.7.965.0.
Update your driver
If Windows Device Manager indicates a device problem or if the driver version of Windows Phone 7 that is installed is not the current version, you must update the driver. To do this, follow these steps:
On the Driver tab, click Uninstall.
If it is displayed, click to select Delete the driver software for this device and then click OK.
Click the root computer icon, and then click Scan for hardware changes on the Action menu.
Open Portable Devices, double-click your Windows Phone 7, and then click the Driver tab.
Click Update Driver.
Click Browse my computer for driver software.
Click Browse, locate the Program Files/Zune/Drivers folder on your computer, and then click OK.
Click Next and if you are prompted, click Install.
After the driver installation is complete, click Close two times to exit the Device Manager. If you are prompted to do so, restart your computer.
If all that doesn't work, I would un-install and re-install the Zune software.
well i got it to work but i had to get the zune pass to do it. Just using the trial version right now.
Seems very silly though i already have all my music on my computer from ares downloader that i already pay for, i send the music to zune just fine. I think its trying to make me buy my music twice which is pretty dumb i must say

Because some people would prefer to not to have their phone attached to their computer. Perhaps someone wants to leave their phone with their keys and stuff so he/she can grab all of their stuff they need to leave their house at once.
Or, in my case, plugging my phone into the computer can lead to all of the USB devices plugged directly into my motherboard losing power. Yes, that's a very niche issue, but it's still a use-case that makes WiFi Sync useful.
That would mean your powersupply isn't giving the board enough power then, or go with a powered hub route. Don't know if it's me, but I notice the phone taking longer to charge when the wifi and bluetooth are on.
I rooted my NC from 1.1.0 using autonooter awhile ago and it works pretty well in general. I used to be able to hook it up to my home PC (w7) and my work PC (XP) with no problems. ADB worked (usually), the drives showed up, etc.
Everything still works on the work PC, and another W7 PC I tried it on.
Now, for some reason, neither the NC nor its SD card show up on my home PC when I plug it in! The NC shows the normal "USB Mode" screen when I plug it in, and my PC makes the USB Ding sound. But no new drives show up.
The only thing I can think of that changed is around the time it stopped working, I replaced my old USB Card reader with a new one (old one didn't work with SDHC). I also renamed some drive letters to reorganize them, since the card reader always shows 4 drive letters in windows.
I don't see the USB controller entry for the NC that I used to see in Device Manager either.
Check for NookcolorUMS app
I was having some bizarre connection issues with my PC, too, and they seem to have been corrected (at least they haven't recurred) by using a USB extension cable. It makes no sense, and I didn't do it to attempt a fix, but just noticed that the issues seemed worst when plugging into the top-side 'convenience' USB ports, and had an extra extension cable sitting around, so I plugged that into a rear port to make access less awkward. Since then, the PC consistently mounts everything just like it should.
I'm still using the NC's data cable, just plugging it into a maybe 1' extension cable rather than directly in the slot.
my XP based computer won't see the rooted NC either, however I will have to try using a port on the motherboard as opposed to one of the front mounts and see if that does the trick. I just kinda gave up on it as I didn't really need it too bad (I only use my nook for email, web browsing, and to control my DVR).
Well I unrooted my NC as I had planned anyway to upgrade to 1.2, but the problem hasn't gone away.
I tried plugging into an extension cable I have that goes directly to a MoBo rear port, but no change.
I can't run the nookcolorUMS now that I'm unrooted. Maybe I'll try it when I re-root eventually.
The thing is, it works on every other computer, so I can't figure out why it would stop working on just this one. It seems like it must be a windows issue, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what it is.
I don't bother with usb
USB connectivity is so unreliable that I don't even bother with it.
To move files around I use File Expert/network to access the PC via wireless from the device.
It's easy, reliable, and FAST.

That's a good tip. Unfortunately you have to use USB for certain functions, like manual nooting, or synching with Calibre (I suspect).
Once I'm rooted again I'll probably start using wireless for small stuff, but if I'm moving a gigabyte movie over, I'm not sure how long that will take, or how much battery it will use.
Does anything come up in device manager when you connect it? If so, did you try deleting anything that does come up, disconnect and start over? Worth a shot....
You don't have to guess--if you see a USB device that might be the NC, open properties>details and from the dropdown choose "hardware ids." If the number 2080 is in the id, it's the NC.
Nothing new comes up in device manager when I plug it in. It used to...
I experienced a similar issue and this was what causing it.
1. I have 2 front USB connections (nothing connected to either)
2. External Power USB hub connected to a rear USB slot
On Win 7, whenever I plug-in the NC via USB, I got a device not recognize error. I tried plugging it into different ports and pretty much either got no detection or device not recognize. Here is the kicker, as soon as I plug it into the usb hub, window recognize and mount it right away. This also happen to be true if I remove the usb hub altogether.
So I have a stock nexus 4 I am trying to back up all of my data to my PC from, and for some reason it keeps trying to only transfer some of the files to my PC when I drag everything from the phone storage to my pc. I have the phone hooked up via usb cable from the phone using MTP connection.
Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening, or maybe how to fix it?
Did you do a media scan?
MTP sucks. Try using Airdroid or something similar. once you get used to it it's a lot faster.
hey guys.
i just tried copying an avi file from my pc to the phone. i had already selected Media device (USB 3.0) in the pull down menu.
first it disconnected as it had initially first connected via Media device (MTP) and then reconnected and brought the auto play dialogue up. after a few seconds it disconnected itslef again and then reconnected. it seems to randomly want to disconnect and reconnect when it wants to.
even while it was apparently still reconnected, i tried to copy a file over to it and it first said i might not be able to play the file did i want to copy it anyway, i clicked yes, then it says the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected even though it still appears to be connected.
if i switch back to MTP it still warns about maybe not playing the file but then after clicking to still copy across, it copies fine.
i am running windows 7. i have used this usb 3.0 port fine with a usb thumb stick i have. also, windows says it has installed the device successfully when i click over to usb 3.0.
so.... any ideas why it randomly wants to dis/re connect? and why will it not copy across even when it appears connected?
thanks guys.

Make sure you have the latest Samsung USB drivers on your PC. If you think you do, I would go to the device manager and uninstall your phone from the device list and then let it reinstall the drivers. Downloading Kies 3 also installs the drivers on your PC.

thanks mate but i have already tried them.
it does charge fine so i'm not sure whether it is a power issue but the issue of it disconnecting must have something to do with not transferring anything over even though it still appears connected when i am trying.
i read somewhere that due to it's quicker data transfer, the pc and device need to send much quicker signals to each other to let them know that they're still attached. by using an extension lead inbetween the device and usb 3.0 socket i was delaying that signal sufficiently to make the pc keep thinking the phone wasn't attached anymore. i removed the extension lead and sure enough it copied across fine.
the odd thing is that both a usb thumb drive and my 2tb backup external HDD work fine over the extension. maybe the note 3 is slower at sending that signal to start with? dont know but it now works.
