What to do! My screen is cracked at the bottom - Epic 4G General

My phone fell today and the bottom part of the screen is cracked. It still works, but its dangerous to touch. Since we pay for TEP, will sprint replace my phone? If so, roughly how much wil it cost?

You'll just have to pay the $100 down payment to get a replacement phone. I dropped mine and it's in the same condition but since I don't have TEP I'll just have to deal with it.

That's disappoining. Idk if I can..

If they have the parts for the screen on hand and you're really polite they will probably just repair it for the cost of the screen part $30.

If they have the part in stock, about an hour. Of course you will have to un-root before you take the phone in, oh, wait that's right, your not rooted. lol

Guess that did work out after all. I'm in shock right now that this even happened. I *was* saving to get a nook color, guess that's not gonna happen...

If you're really nice and they have a defective phone they are about to ship back to Samsung they might just swap motherboards between the phones and you'll be off on your merry way, it's happened for me before.

Ok, I'll try that first, if not that, then the screen repair.
[sig]I'm close to root, im patiently waiting on those puzzles[sig]

I cracked my screen and they replaced it for free through TEP. Took em 3 replacements before they figured out that the phones had to be activated throuh some special employee number and that TEP wasn't sending duds over and over, but it got done eventually.

Wow. I thought this phone could never get hurt lol. I have dropped my phone over 20 times, just yesterday actually. It fell real hard, even the battery came out and still not a mark in sight.
Maybe I have a good one? Anyways good luck and hope the best

ouchh man... ya hopefully just try to go in and get a new screen. shouldnt be too expensive.
i dropped mine right on some rocks and thought for sure i broke the screen. when i picked it up all i had was a tiny chip.
im just happy i dont have an iphone. my friend has had to replace his glass like 5 times.

I had the same thing happen on my birthday. Sorry, man. It sucks pretty hardcore. Root now, backup everything to sd, odin to stock and await your new arrival is my suggestion. Worst you could do is brick it and exaggerate the fall. Unless they're actually willling to replace your digitizer. I thought they didn't do that anymore no matter who you have.

Idk, I don't have much that needs to be backed up, and I don't know when I'm gonna be able to go. The closest sprint/repair store is like an hour from where I live, and we're tight on money right now. I'm fine losing my angry birds data lol. I'll just make a list of all the stuff I have and redownload it later. Gawsh, I hate staring at these cracks, they really show when typing on xda...

I did the same thing with mine about a month ago. I dropped it and it landed flat a and the screen shattered. I took it to the repair center and they fixed it for free. Might be because it's on a corporate account but the key was being nice.

Thanks community/devs, but I'm probably headed back to a Moment

I was having dust issues with my phone, so I took it to sprint for it to be replaced. I received my new phone on Friday. Today I pull my phone from my pocket and guess what..dust, on a 2 day old phone.
I'm probably headed back to the Moment.
Thanks, all!
K, g'bye!!!
LOLOLOL Good luck with that pile of **** they call a Samsung.
IHMO, it's a shame this phone's design is as poor as it is. It really is something amazing, but it's dust issue kills it after a while. So far, i have two specks, but I love this phone. Good luck with the moment!
dude just keep *****ing about how u like sense. this is my second hero with dust and they said that if my 3rd one gets dust they will upgrade me to a evo. I have to pay upgrade price but still that's a bad ass deal ill throw my hero in the ****ing sand box for an ego

Yeah..I'm rather irritated. I've had this phone for 2 days and I already have a dust problem. I tried logging into Sprint Chat and at 5:37 Eastern its closed on Sunday, yet they're open until 7pm? Weird..
Anyway..I'm completely undecided..I love the Hero, yet the Dust issue is a complete killer.
Update:
Just called and talked with Sprint and they transferred me to Assurion (wtf?) Anyway, they say I have a 30 day warranty on replaced phones and to take it back to the store it was replaced it.
I'll probably be getting yet another phone.
yea like radxcoresteven says its an amazing phone just a ****ty build. i wouldnt give up on it tho. i got this gel case and it seems to help a lil bit.... just a lil tho
Sprint is a Service provider, not a phone manufacturer. Hate the Hero.. Then hate HTC not sprint. Hopefully the EVO is better!
I had my friend at the sprint store hook me up with a refurb that was supposed to be fixed 3 weeks and no dust yet.. my dusty hero i gave to my my brother..lol he doesnt care to much.. since u can only really see the dust in the sun.. inside u dont notice it.. he is happy.. but ya the hero is a great phone but some production issues...... the moment is nice so at least your still with android..
Sorry what's this dust issue?
its common on the hero's to get dust in the screen on the actually glass. usually on the bottom left is where it starts. and if you've had the hero for more than 27 minutes and dont know what the dust issue is then your doing pretty good.
the moment is a solid phone. im on my 3rd hero, the next one im buying a moment myself. well unless sprint gets off their asses and releases the nexus one first.

Yeah my first hero didn't have this issue. Got a new hero a few days ago due to my trackball being ****ed. Still no dust issue.
There's a little dust in the upper right side of my screen, nothing major though. I had the Samsung Instinct before I switched to Hero and I hated that phone. I'll never buy a Samsung again.
I hate the Moment, the screen feels cheap and plasticky. I'm sure it has to do with it having a physical keyboard, because it feels just like a G1 screen to me.
Anyway, nice having you around for 5 minutes, see you later.
I've still never seen dust under the screen on my phone, and I've had it since mid-October, carried it in my pocket constantly, and had it literally covered in extremely fine dust from ground corn a lot of times lol

Power Button CRACK? Check your phone.

Was made ware of this issue today in posts on other EVO 4G forums and was wondering if any XDA users noticed the problem. Searched to see if this was already posted here, but didn't come up with any threads.

Mines cracked going to the screen and not the battery.
How did this happen?!

after seeing your thread at sprintusers I stopped by a Sprint store near my house and showed them. They said they would definitely replace it... if they had any in stock...

Nope. I treat my phones probably better than just about anything. I've never dropped it or hit it on anything. That's evident by the complete absence of any scuffs or scratches anywhere else on the phone.
Also I didn't go in all pissed off or bothered, I just told him I found a defect and asked him his opinion about it
Got the same frikken issue. I had just made the decision to keep the phone today too. I can get a replacement but i am worried whether they'll fix the hole for rooting on the new unit.
Never dropped it. I do believe it could be from holding the power button combo when tryin to boot into recovery early in this EVO's life.
I noticed this awhile ago, i don't notice it unless i'm running my fingernail along it
DAMN IT! I just checked mine and there is a crack. I've NEVER dropped my phone either.
Weak sauce!
Crack free, going on 1 month
Yup, i have one also, but it doesnt bother me at all TBH
Nothing here, so far
I don't have one either, and I did drop my phone once. It was in a hard case, and it fell on carpet.

Likewise, its very difficult to see but it does bring out my ocd just a little. I think I'll stop at the Sprint repair center tomorrow. If they want to replace it with a new one I'll probably let them
biggest problem i see with this is that if the other side cracks the we may well lose a power button.
DANG IT! Mine is, cracked up toward screen/speaker. That kind of sucks, but it is kind of invisible, too.
I'll call Sprint tomorrow and see if they'll believe that it happened on its own.
What's up with Sprint chat lately, anyway? It is always off line.
No crack, and dropped it on pavement a couple of weeks ago, no case.
Mine is cracked. Didn't even notice it though until I read this thread.

Why does everybody worry about taking their phones in for repair if they are rooted? As long as what you want to get fixed isn't software related they don't care. I am rooted and running Fresh with Riptide's theme and took my phone in last month for a screen replacement and yesterday to replace a broken plastic cover over the camera lens. Nothing was said the first time for the screen, and yesterday I was asked how I was getting the great battery life I was getting so I told them it was due to the custom ROM and kernel. They were impressed. And, yes both repairs were free because I have Total Equipment Protection.

Most of them won't care or won't even know. But all it takes of that one guy to care and then void your warranty. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to take that chance because of laziness.

I would raise holy hell if they tried to void my warranty on a non-software related issue I brought my phone in for. Feel free to root and unroot all you want. I'll stick with "laziness".
I had my screen crack fixed by Sprint. I simply flashed Joey Krim's stock looking rooted 2.2 and they didn't ask a question.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699847
Just make a nandroid of your phone. I put my OEM SD card back in the phone and kept my good SD card with me. They fixed my screen, no questions asked. However, when they accidentally broke my volume down button on the side (need that one!) they just gave me a new phone. Nothing but good things about Sprints service.

Whoops!! I finally had to send it to be fixed!!

Oh well I had to finally send away my Galaxy S to be fixed I managed to break the "Home" button so when I flashed a stock rom I couldn't reboot the phone from that menu,,
And also managed to royally screw up something in it,, which meant I had absolutely no phone coverage in areas which have full 3g signal........... Hmmmmm me thinks I did something to corrupt the EFS files on my phone.....
Oh well!!
4 days without the phone (Bank Holiday due to it being Paddy's Day)
Hopefully they will do it on the warranty!!
lol you must be heavy thumbed lol

No insurance on the phone? I was going to say get a replacement screen on ebay but I just checked the prices and my god its not worth it.
Would probably be worth keeping it. Parts prices will fall in the next few months and could replace the screen pretty cheaply if you hold on to it.

I claimed it as lost, It fell off on a very busy road and I wasnt to keen on trying to stop traffic to get it. On the way home it had worked its way closer to the side of the road and traffic was a lot lighter so I decided to venture out (mainly just to see if my SD made it). I had already made the claim though as lost, since I didnt plan on trying to retrieve the phone.
