hello
I keep my arc in media transfer mode over USB.
One thing I notice is that the USB icon in notification area stays even after i disconnect the phone.
Is that normal/expected?
No it shouldnt stay on whatsoever so how do ya get rid of it then or cant u get it off even if u reboot it sounds weird why dont u change it to memory card and see if it goes off after that

rebooted and it appears to be going away when i disconnect.
maybe something got messed up when i ran advanced task killer.
i have stopped using atk and now use fast reboot instead.
It happens to me time to time, it is just a USb icon stays and goes away with reboot.
Yea I would advise not to use atk I had a few problems and most people on here would agree but its every1 to there own really. Let us know if the problem disappears after not using atk

Make sure these 2 are ignored in ATK,
com.sonyericsson.capabilities --- handles hardware properties and connections
com.sonyericsson.devicemonitor --- handles plug and play detection
I don't discourage task killers,in fact i use ATK too, but it's better to be careful.
Also always disconnect through the phone, not eject from the pc.

I could find:
com.sonyericsson.devicemonitor
But I could not find:
com.sonyericsson.capabilities
I am using atk free with low level process display.
It happens to me all the time too. I don't use any task killers. Once you disconnect it and it still shows up, if you pull down the notification bar and select the "change connectivity mode" entry, it will realize its not connected any longer and will disappear. No need to reboot.
Cheers.
I have the same problem.

Yes, absolutely right It's not a big problem.
I have the same problem. F*cking bug in this rom, i hope the next rom fixed this stupid bug.
Alternatively, you could just push disconnect on the phone before unplugging it.

Hi,
It happened 3 times in a month!
The phone is working and the buttons are working but the touch screen doesn't! I don't know if it's the phone or because of one of the programs I have installed.
To solve the problem I have to take the battery out, because when I hold the switch off button and the options window pops up I can't touch the power off option.
Did it happen to any one of you before?
Thanks ..

Come on, No one?!
Do you perhabs use a task killer ?
perhabs the "Wiper app" killed ?
but i never heard that the screen refuses to work,
did you drop it and then perhabs the cables to the screen have a loose connection ?
Perhabs someone else has a solution
Best wishes Mav
What is the Wiper app?
I'm always so curious what these processes are for...
I have a task killer, but I don't know what is "Wiper app"?
and no I never droped it. I don't think it is a hardware thing because restarting solves the problem.
the Wiper App is an app or process, for the screen.
When you kill it you cannot wipe with your fingers over the screen.
OK you can wipe, but the screen will not respond any more.
And if you kill all processes like you normally do with taskkillers, you will automaticly kill the wiper app, and perhabs some more processes which are used for the screen.
Using a taskkiller is not unproblematic, even if SE says it and wants you to use one until they have their next update ready.
But normally Android does this all by itself, it´s not like Windows
you normally need no taskkiller,
and sometimes a taskkiller is worse because, when eg. the Android system wants to end an process automatically which you killed before, it gets in serious trouble and some other processes depending on that will also not function any more.
best wishes Mav,
and please correct me if i was wrong
I thought it might be something like that ..
Hi,
I'm keep getting this data roaming message over and over again in the notification area. I don't have a data plan. I use only wifi. Iam not sure if this has also something to do with my battery drain issue. Is there maybe a way to disable the message coming up or to find out which app is causing maybe the message coming?
I'm running on darky 9.3 and speedmod k19c.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
If you dont have a data plan press the power button and disable the data network, for two reasons: apps would not try to connect and your carrier wouldnt charge you per kilobyte.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
That is the funny thing. It is disabled and the notification still comes up. Its very annoying even when it is disabled that the data roaming message pops up in the notification area. Is it maybe a bug in darkys 9.3 version?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Probably .

Go in to settings/wireless and networks/mobile networks and make sure data roaming is turned off - not ticked.
Other than that, not sure.

I've had the same since day 1, mostly after unplugging from my pc. I don't use data network or 3G, and it's not ROM/theme dependant.
Never found a solution, so I stopped caring about it...
Like i said. Its disabled. Its very annoying.

I have a similar warning regularly, very annoying. I have a data plan but I do not tick the data roaming.
This problem did not occur before. It only happens after updating to 2.2.1. I did not root and lagfix. Anyone can help?
Wish I could help... As said, it doesn't matter if I'm on a custom ROM or stock (started on 2.1).
I disconnect from my pc always via "safely eject media", internal SD first, then external, then turn off USB connection on the phone, but it makes no difference.
I had stopped caring, but this thread has made me start again. A curse on you all!
There seems to be no reason to blame Kies, but since it's a crock, I will. Don't see why its absence from my pc should absolve it. I n fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Kies was responsible for the unrest in the middle East. And LUFC's defensive woes.
MOT.
Lol .
I think whatever is causing this problem is also the reason for.the battery drain. Somehow whenever the wifi is active the battery usage inrcreases up to 5-7 times. Playing a.game does not use that much battery.
i noticed another bug in 9.3. If u get into the task manager and u press the back button u should be back at your home screen and the task manager should close. However everytime i press the back button when iam in the task manager it starts randomly a.application, if i press again the back button another app is staring up and so on.

1. There is no way to sync the clock to any internet time.
2. When the battery is fully charged, the screen turns on from standby (and stays on until the pre-set time-out). This is a problem if you leave you SGT plugged in at night. The screen will turn on in the middle of the night, and possible wake you up if you leave it by night table.
3. Bluetooth tethering for internet access does not work. Using my iPhone (with a legit tethering plan), I can connect to SGT via BT. The internet setting actually recognized BT was connected. A blue square icon was also shown in the lower right corner. However, no data was transferred.
4. Launcher crashes. Regularly about once every 1-2 day, Launcher crashes; i.e., pressed the 'house' icon then a blank screen was shown. Same problem with ADW launcher. The only solution was to reboot (like working with Windows computers, needs constant rebooting).

The only consistent crash/force close I have ever had is with the Google Listen app. I've never had a problem with the stock launcher, unless we count that annoying WiFi hang thing. But, that doesn't require a reboot either. Maybe you have defective hardware; can you return/exchange it for a new one?

1. If your tab is rooted there is. Get one of the ntp apps like ClockSync from the market.
2. No idea how to disable that. My phone does the same thing but the screen is so small that it didn't bother me much. The tablet is another thing, it lights up the whole room, really annoying.
3. Won't help you much when I tell you that bt tethering works great with my Galaxy S via the bt pan profile. All I have to do is enable bt, click the little wrench next to the Galaxy S and enable tethering. Maybe you have to enable something on your iPhone?
4. Never happened to me. You should try to set up your homescreens from scratch.
Btw. you might want to update your pc to something newer than win98 if you really believe in your comment about windows PCs.
So, I just went and checked my phone's battery usage and realized it has been awake all day. I'm not sure what's causing this, nor how to fix it. I tried glancing through the forums a bit but I'm pretty busy at the moment and didn't see anything, so I apologize for probably repeating a topic. Oh, I'm running MikG 3.0 with the Less Lionfish 1.4 kernel, Smartass governor and SIO I/O scheduler. Thanks for any help.
sounds like maybe a rogue app. did you restore any apps through Titanium Backup? did you recently download any new apps? How long have you been noticing it? do you have any data syncing in the backround that may be hung up?
app
I think alaman68 is correct. If you reboot your phone, does it happen again? If yes, check your running apps for rogue service. If not, you'll just need to to do trial and error.
Today was the first day I noticed it, and I check my battery usage rather often. I am constantly installing and uninstalling apps, but I don't have anything currently installed that I didn't have before when my phone was normal. I'll reboot my phone and see if it continues.

wipe the cache and delvik when you reboot
I rebooted it without wiping either cache and it has stopped for now. Should I do that anyways? Thanks for the help, by the way.
In terminal emulator, type dumpsys power.
It'll shoe you if any of your system level apps or sensors are causing it

Im having the same problem somehow. I thought it might b android Os that was high but that doesnt come up on battery use...

Check to see if you have FriendStream removed, I know MikG will allow this through the tweaks. If it's not showing up in your list of apps, it'll lead to a sync problem that will literally keep your phone on constantly. The only way to fix is to wipe and flash again, then don't remove it. You can try to push it back in through ADB, but that didn't work on my phone. I reflashed, and now I'm consistently getting 19 hours with no tweaks applied. Just a heads up. Without FriendStream, you may see the sync icon in your top bar all the time.
I don't have the sync icon or anything, just the ones on the pic but still awake?
If i do clean flash then nandroid restore, will the problem fine back?
What else can b keeping it awake
I don't have friendstrm or any of those Facebook related apps
Nothing comes up on battery use, its simply always awake

Will this happen even if you shut autosync off? One of the first things I do when flash a rom is remove friendstream, I never thought of a potential problem though.

OK I d.l the app. But I'm having trouble finding what's keeping it on.
What option should I click on.
The first screen does say my phone has been awake for one extra minute compared to the screen on. But I can't find the option where it says what the app is.

When you open the app the first line on top says other. Change it to partial wakelocks. Before checking your wakelocks unplug your phone and don't use it for a few hours.

I currently use my S8 along with my Huawei watch 1 to start my PC via WOL. The process is that I use WearTasker on the watch, which triggers a tasker task, which in turn uses a plugin from the app Wake On Lan.
The problem is that, most times, nothing happens when I trigger the task from my watch. If, however, I go to my phone and start the Wake on Lan app - to make sure it's running - then the process works perfectly. Obviously, this defeats the point though.
I have both App Power Monitor and Power Saving Mode disabled in the S8 settings. Is there anything else I can do to make sure this app doesn't get killed and continues running in the background?

Add your app in to the "Unmonitored Apps" list under the battery screen (Scroll to the end of the screen in case you can't see).

Ok, done that - although I assumed that wasn't relevant since the app power monitor is off. I even had to enable it in order to add the app to the list - before, of course, disabling it again.
I initially thought that had fixed the problem, but the required app is still often not running.

Think it has something to do with having a lockscreen that has a pin/password, remove it and see if it fixes the issue
Interesting. I just tried it with the phone unlocked, but the WOL app not started (by me anyway - I assume it was running in the background or started by tasker) and it worked. Obviously, this isn't final proof, but it does lend significant strength to your theory...
As a father of young children - it's quite useful to be able to lock the phone. Is there a workaround for this behaviour?

Is this an app in the phone? If so you can prevent killing an app, by pressing recents button, 3 dot, lock apps. The app will stay in ram.

My S8 seems to just shut processes off when the screen is off. It's really annoying. No "OK Google" support, I can't get volume to work on my Chromecast except for maybe the first couple minutes the screen is off, then it works again when the screen is on, and simple app notifications like Domino's telling me my pizza status never works, even tho notifications are turned on.
It also likes to completely reset my games if I try to do something simple like minimizing it and doing a quick Google search. It seems like it just handles memory very poorly.
