Hi,
It happened 3 times in a month!
The phone is working and the buttons are working but the touch screen doesn't! I don't know if it's the phone or because of one of the programs I have installed.
To solve the problem I have to take the battery out, because when I hold the switch off button and the options window pops up I can't touch the power off option.
Did it happen to any one of you before?
Thanks ..

Come on, No one?!
Do you perhabs use a task killer ?
perhabs the "Wiper app" killed ?
but i never heard that the screen refuses to work,
did you drop it and then perhabs the cables to the screen have a loose connection ?
Perhabs someone else has a solution
Best wishes Mav
What is the Wiper app?
I'm always so curious what these processes are for...
I have a task killer, but I don't know what is "Wiper app"?
and no I never droped it. I don't think it is a hardware thing because restarting solves the problem.
the Wiper App is an app or process, for the screen.
When you kill it you cannot wipe with your fingers over the screen.
OK you can wipe, but the screen will not respond any more.
And if you kill all processes like you normally do with taskkillers, you will automaticly kill the wiper app, and perhabs some more processes which are used for the screen.
Using a taskkiller is not unproblematic, even if SE says it and wants you to use one until they have their next update ready.
But normally Android does this all by itself, it´s not like Windows
you normally need no taskkiller,
and sometimes a taskkiller is worse because, when eg. the Android system wants to end an process automatically which you killed before, it gets in serious trouble and some other processes depending on that will also not function any more.
best wishes Mav,
and please correct me if i was wrong
I thought it might be something like that ..

I'm having a couple off issues with the latest release.
First of all I can't turn Wifi off and keep it off. Everytime I go into the menu to check on it, it's checked, so I uncheck it, and it'll turn off for a minute or two and then all of a sudden turns right back on. This is extremely annoying.
And the other is that it seems like in some apps my touchscreen presses don't keep the phone awake. So I can be interacting with the screen and then all of a sudden it'll go dim. I'll keep pressing on screen buttons and a few seconds later the display will shut off completely. The only way I can jog it back awake in its dimmed state is to move the trackball or press some other hardware button.
Anyone else seen these problems?

I've seen similar issue with the screen staying awake, thought it's just the phone. Also not sure if it's related sometimes I'll click on a button for example, but it will almost not recognize the spot i'm clicking on and click something else on the screen.
These are the same problems I've been seeing on my phone. I imagine it is due to the multitouch hack, but I haven't gotten the motivation to downgrade my phone back to 1.31.
Do you have anything installed like power manager or locale? One of those progams may be turning on wifi.

Nope, I had installed Power Manager once a while back and didn't like how it worked so I uninstalled it. Don't have Locale installed either. I ran the task manager to see what was running and there was nothing that I could tell that would turn the wifi on.
The touch issues are rather widespread amongst 1.41 users. However, don't know what's up with ur wifi. I have a strange issue with my wifi as well though. Whenever I boot up my phone and wifi was enabled when it turned it off. I get 2 not responding errors. Everytime. Its like clockwork. With 3g? Never. It took me about 20 wipes and 10 or so hours to finally figure it out. Hopefully all these problems will be fixed with rc33
I have also noticed that Applications don't check for new updates anymore. even when I go to "My Downloads", It used to show "free" next to any application that has an update or has been uninstalled. Now it shows "Installed" next to all the applications but when I go to the application by category, It shows up as "Free" meaning that there is a new version.
the case in simple points:
1. when I open the Application..... It doesn't detect the update.
2. when I go to "My Downloads" in the market, It doesn't show "Free" next to any application that has an update.
But if I go to the application by category, It shows "Free".

i havnt had a problem with it staying on, i noticed that my phone was dimming to quickly. I know theres probably an adjustment somwhere (i think at least) but i havnt had any problems what so ever with it.
Very strange. I haven't had either problem (wifi or touchscreen). I have noticed that my battery drains more quickly than it used to, but I have been blaming this on the DroidSans autorotate feature always flipping the screen everytime I move the phone (I mess with the phone an awful lot).
Droidsan
I can not get auto rotate on JF RC-33. Does anyone have this problem???
another issue with with this version was that all my ringtones were changed for my contacts and stuff
pretty wierd.
i don't have any problems mentioned ATM.

DroidSans Tweaks checks the version. At the moment it's not going to recognize RC33 as a valid version. Wait for it to be updated.

What he said... But don't forget to enable auto rotate in your browser though. You don't need droidsans for that.
I assume it is since it happens for my X10 as well as my girlfriends.
1) While texting it seems to freeze and have a constant vibration, then if your fingers kept texting it would eventually type all those keys or the last key multiple times.
2) Run out of memory. I use ATK and I notice after a day it starts off at something around 136mb of free memory then later in the day it will say "7 apps killed, 119mb remaining" and it has gone down to the 80's before. Where is this memory being used?
3) I seem to pocket dial/text a lot even though I lock the screen every time...
4) When on the phone it hangs up a lot from my cheek lol Is there a way to fix this other than bringing up the dialpad and hearing the keys being hit
Also might as well put this here. Is 'rooting' your phone the same as jailbreaking an iPhone?

Basic stuff for an android phone. High memory usage is nothing to worry about, it's actually almost the opposite, more the merrier.
Hmm I think I've experienced most of those things. They're odd occurances. But be glad they're software issues, because software can be changed/fixed!
As for rooting vs jailbreaking an iphone... the thing is, since iPhone is locked down so much, jailbreaking an iPhone can make a big difference than a stock iPhone. Rooted android allows access to hidden system files, so can allow for more tweaking, but an unrooted Android phone already does so much, as opposed to an unjailbroken iPhone. Rooted android can by far do way more than a jailbroken iPhone. And even in some ways, an unrooted Android phone can do more than a jailbroken iPhone as well.
PS: can you share the numbers of some of you girlfriends? maybe I can help them out with their technical issues

1) I've noticed this. The pattern I notice is that this only happens when you're receiving text and typing. Since in the options for the keyboard you can enable vibration when u type I believe this is the problem. I haven't tested it but the way the phone seems to respond, it seems to be so. It seems to be able to only output one vibration feedback at a time. So in effect it delays those linked to your typing until the vibration for receiving text has ended. I could be wrong though.
2) It is most probably being used by background running processes. Typically you only really close a process by pushing the back button until it closes. If you continually open new tasks after pushing the center button you're essentially putting the current program in the background.
3)What you can do is enable a simple swipe pattern lock to help this, but even so you run the risk of locking your phone if you "guess" the pattern lock too many times. So I would recommend you buying a case for it if you don't have one. I have not had any problem like this and I use a case.
4)It sounds like your proximity sensor isn't working or isn't being properly activated by your cheek. What you can do is go to a mirror and call someone, while speaking to them shift the phone a little bit at a time until you see the screen black. This indicates the proximity sensor has detected your face being close to the phone. While you are at it you can also slide the phone a bit to get peak volume with your phone. From what I can see the in-call speaker is very directional.
EDIT: Yea you can consider rooting to be the android equivalent to jail breaking. Considering you're asking that I am guessing you have not rooted your phone yet. If you don't have the latest firmware it might be a good idea since it fixes some little oddities on the x10 as well as offering battery and speed improvements.
There's an easier way to test the proximity sensor:
While in lockscreen, press: Menu Back Back Menu Back Menu Menu Back
This opens the service menu. Go to Service Tests-Proximity Switch.
Now just move a finger over the sensor to test. It also gives you a sound so you can also try holding it to your cheek!
Hope that helps!
@beno1 cooooolll thanks man.

So I went into the testing part and checked the proximity switch and it says it is off. That's not what I want now is it? I couldn't figure out how to get it on.
As for pressing the Home button instead of Back.. wouldn't Advanced Task Killer close those applications anyways?
Put your finger over the proximity sensor and it will go from off to on.. then take it off and it will be off..

That's what it should do! It will only go to on when it is covered then as soon as you uncover it then it swiches back to off.
This is as it should be in the service test. It is working.
Hi everyone.
Today i installed an app called startup cleaner pro from android market...with this app u can choose which apps will be started up on android booting....so i selected a few and it stopped 22 other system + user apps from starting when i booted up my droid..the first thing i noticed is that the lights which are ALWAYS on in our touch buttons were OFF...and they remain off even when u touch them...but the buttons are WORKING properly...
Hope this helps
that's not something out of common...when i run android sometimes button lights stays always on,sometimes always off lol,so it's not software related,it's just wrong code which must be fixed
This had never happened with me...not once...but since i stopped some of the system services...button lights are always off..!!...and i have restarted my phone like 10-12 times...and lights have not started in droid everytime..
Same behaviour here. Now the lights are always off.
Moreover, when I press the power button and the screen is black, the phone doesn't wait some seconds anymore and it turns on immediatly.

What you may want to consider (but what will be a time consuming job I guess) is to test which process/app does make the difference.
I think that tzacapaca was right.
I'm trying to identify the service or services that force the lights on, but I can't because now I have always the lights on.
I have reboot multiple times, without any changes. It's strange because the first time that I have disable the startup services, I have reboot many times and all the times the lights are off.
guys think logical..it cannot be because of software or services..lights on/off are commanded by OS,in my opinion..
developers correct me if i'm wrong

Software and services do give command to the OS. It may be that some of the services are giving commands to the OS (for example: turn on 3G) which are misunderstand by the OS (for example: turn off lights).

about software.. when you install naked android there is just astro and superuser and i dont think these programs will give commands to buttons to turn off the light
about services...they are part of OS..so OS and kernel is written using some codes..anyway i'm pretty sure this is kernel's fault which needs to be patched.
p.s. btw are u a developer?
p.s2. robin can tell us for sure,he is the one
Nope, I'm not a developer, but I have some programming knowledge. That why I said 'it may be'.
And I agree, it will most likely be the kernel which is wrong here (that what I tried to say with 'which are misunderstand by the OS'). But if we find out which command is misunderstand by the kernel, we may find out where the error in the kernel is. Or not?
hello
I keep my arc in media transfer mode over USB.
One thing I notice is that the USB icon in notification area stays even after i disconnect the phone.
Is that normal/expected?
No it shouldnt stay on whatsoever so how do ya get rid of it then or cant u get it off even if u reboot it sounds weird why dont u change it to memory card and see if it goes off after that

rebooted and it appears to be going away when i disconnect.
maybe something got messed up when i ran advanced task killer.
i have stopped using atk and now use fast reboot instead.
It happens to me time to time, it is just a USb icon stays and goes away with reboot.
Yea I would advise not to use atk I had a few problems and most people on here would agree but its every1 to there own really. Let us know if the problem disappears after not using atk

Make sure these 2 are ignored in ATK,
com.sonyericsson.capabilities --- handles hardware properties and connections
com.sonyericsson.devicemonitor --- handles plug and play detection
I don't discourage task killers,in fact i use ATK too, but it's better to be careful.
Also always disconnect through the phone, not eject from the pc.

I could find:
com.sonyericsson.devicemonitor
But I could not find:

I am using atk free with low level process display.
It happens to me all the time too. I don't use any task killers. Once you disconnect it and it still shows up, if you pull down the notification bar and select the "change connectivity mode" entry, it will realize its not connected any longer and will disappear. No need to reboot.
Cheers.
I have the same problem.

Yes, absolutely right It's not a big problem.
I have the same problem. F*cking bug in this rom, i hope the next rom fixed this stupid bug.
Alternatively, you could just push disconnect on the phone before unplugging it.
So, I just went and checked my phone's battery usage and realized it has been awake all day. I'm not sure what's causing this, nor how to fix it. I tried glancing through the forums a bit but I'm pretty busy at the moment and didn't see anything, so I apologize for probably repeating a topic. Oh, I'm running MikG 3.0 with the Less Lionfish 1.4 kernel, Smartass governor and SIO I/O scheduler. Thanks for any help.
sounds like maybe a rogue app. did you restore any apps through Titanium Backup? did you recently download any new apps? How long have you been noticing it? do you have any data syncing in the backround that may be hung up?
app
I think alaman68 is correct. If you reboot your phone, does it happen again? If yes, check your running apps for rogue service. If not, you'll just need to to do trial and error.
Today was the first day I noticed it, and I check my battery usage rather often. I am constantly installing and uninstalling apps, but I don't have anything currently installed that I didn't have before when my phone was normal. I'll reboot my phone and see if it continues.

wipe the cache and delvik when you reboot
I rebooted it without wiping either cache and it has stopped for now. Should I do that anyways? Thanks for the help, by the way.
In terminal emulator, type dumpsys power.

Check to see if you have FriendStream removed, I know MikG will allow this through the tweaks. If it's not showing up in your list of apps, it'll lead to a sync problem that will literally keep your phone on constantly. The only way to fix is to wipe and flash again, then don't remove it. You can try to push it back in through ADB, but that didn't work on my phone. I reflashed, and now I'm consistently getting 19 hours with no tweaks applied. Just a heads up. Without FriendStream, you may see the sync icon in your top bar all the time.
I don't have the sync icon or anything, just the ones on the pic but still awake?
If i do clean flash then nandroid restore, will the problem fine back?
What else can b keeping it awake
I don't have friendstrm or any of those Facebook related apps
Nothing comes up on battery use, its simply always awake

OK I d.l the app. But I'm having trouble finding what's keeping it on.
What option should I click on.
The first screen does say my phone has been awake for one extra minute compared to the screen on. But I can't find the option where it says what the app is.
