Hello,
I have one quick question: Is is possible to update your firmware via SEUS in the future, when your bootloader is unlocked?
If so, is root (when accieved ) going to be lost during update?
Thank you,
Linkin
The bootloader has been unlocked by SE not by a XDA dev on purpose, they will not punish you in blocking SEUS
SEUS upgrades will not unroot the phone or else your voided warranty because of root will be unvoided, SE will not give you this kind of gift
as SEUS checks some data on preupdate state yes it is possible if you are on stock rom (with/without root not dependant).
well - root is gone though after flashing SE Update as it rewrites permissions to defaults
Thank you guys!

I knew that it was unlocked by SE, but I just wanted to check
To be honest I dont see a reason, why DRM only works with locked bootloader... but nevertheless it seems to be that way (at least I read it... dont have DRM content since I am against DRM...).

is it possible you did a misspell here? it should ONLY be possible if your are on stock rom, shouldnt it?
Or dont you mean the SE rom with "stock rom" but the original android rom?
But anyway even if you use a custom rom then let say SE release 2.3.3 update or even 2.4 you will have people here who will post a flashable update stock rom you can easily flash in recovery
It's even better and more secure than the online flash by seus (how many complaints about the flashing process freezing at some point with seus?)
ok thank you very much for your answer and your time!
Looking forward to test root on my device

ah well ^^
not type when you are thinking on sth else
corrected it
I have unlocked the bootloader, and tried to restore a proper image from SEUS (since i've messed up with a bad boot.img) and it's not possible.
SEUS gives me a message that it won't flash a phone that has a modified software.
mhm, thats actually why I asked maybe it detected a strange bootimage?
Well you can always backup your actual stock rom with a recovery before using a custom rom, just wait and see who is the good dev who will give us the recovery for Arc
how come SE release bootloader unlock for Xperia ARC?
while we got such a hard time on Xperia X10?
it noted there, my warranty will void if i unlock the bootloader.. sigh.. they release the unlock but void ur warranty? cheating
BECAUSE we got such hard time in x10 & people were demanding free bootloader
they flooded se on twitter, facebook, their blogs & support ^^
must have been some number so SE came up with solution
And now you have hundreds of people unlocking their bootloader and no one to Root it
comes time comes root
be patient, in a week or so we have what we need ^^
but it isn't THAT easy as we saw from z's atempts & since there is no exploit working on 2.3 we are lucky to have such "easy" way anyway
Look here : http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/78719#78719
Sony was just blocked repairing of our phone i dont know why but its blocked it.
I doubt they've done it so we rooted users don't get our warranty back. What's the point?? Even unrooted users may face problems with their software so they must run SEUS or something. There must be a way.
We can flash original software thorugh Flashtool
And PCCompanion allows repairing.
OMG, the link in the first post here is a false alarm: the people who can't repair his phone was a littlebit unaware. I mean he pulled out his phone during updating, and then SEUS can't repair the software on the phone. So there is no talking about SE blocked repair! It's just messed up the ROM, and SEUS can't recognize it. End of story...
A couple of months ago I changed build.prop (for JiT). Phone works. After that I tried to restore the firmware via SEUS, but repair button was blocked.
Maybe need to use stock build.prop to repair phone?
@as-mario - you should be banned from xda...
is this true or not?
No it works, if you follow the instructions correctly, meaning DON'T UNPLUG YOUR PHONE WHILE UPDATING!
Yes, I noticed it too, that sometimes you need the original buld.prop to repair phone. Maybe something writes some line in it and SEUS can't do anything.
I didnt brick my phone but what noob will done if he cant repair trought pc comp and seus does not have repair option

He gets X10 flash tool and flashes original software, thats what an n00b should do if he cant use SEUS
OMG! Repair option is actually BLOCKED!!!! SEUS now is capable of recognizing whether the phone is rooted or has installed a custom ROM!

OMG, please guys! Read some! Repairing hasn't been blocked! Only thing is you need an original build.prop file for your phone in some cases! That's all. END.

I don't know. I can find myself an original build.prop on hungarian forums, but I think these files are only working with hungarian X8s. So I suggest you to save the original .prop file before you make any changes on your phone, OR If you can restore orig. ROM with SEUS, then do it, and save prop, if you can't then I don't know. Maybe ask a build.prop from your country: friends/ family members, etc.
Dont use pc companion, use phone upadate software, search in se website for phone update software

hi guys im noob here..
i flashed custom rom gingerfroyo recently, im facing the same problem,.. i tried flashing back stock using xrecovery, then used seus n pc companion same error repeated...
If you pulled the phone while updating, then you have an expensive paperweight!
Don't people read instructions?
Back in old days when i had a HTC Wildfire with a few clicks i rooted it and started installing new ROMS on to it
But since i got this New Xperia Play : R800i Build NO. 3.0.1.a.0.146 {UK}
I got no clue how to do anything on it. Let me be honest here... I updated my phone using the option under the settings menu in About my phone and seems to be on 2.3.3 and look all my friends have rooted their phones but i got no clue if its even possible . Mabey im not such a noob or something but i would be really greatfull if anyoen could point me atleast to the right direction. Mabey some helpfull links to help a fellow noob

Mine was from vodafone and wasnt sim locked either. Ok you have two choices for root. You can either unlock your bootloader (there are many downsides and advantages to this so you should research it) or downgrade to 2.3.2, root using gingerbreak then OTA update to latest version. That way you will not loose root while updating.

What OTA Update Means? And please can you give some links on how to downgrade and root it please?
And btw if i use the method of downgrading my phone first will i be able to flash custom ROMs?

Im on my phone so i can't really link. Look in the android development section, there is a thread all about rooting 2.3.3 with a locked bootloader. OTA means over the air. Basically thats when you download and install an update using just your phone.

No you need an unlocked bootloader to flash custom roms. But please read the pros and cons of unlocking your bootloader first. And understand what you can and can't do
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Ok mate just wanna say thanks a lot for your help and i really appreciate it. You really helped me out here. also just one more thing i need to know. By the looks of it the only cons in unlocking your bootloader seems to be that you will lose warranty and that your phone or your radio may get bricked which apparently can be fixed with restoring a backed up data using a program named omnius for se which i'm actually working on... however my only other concern is if there are any other disadvantages regarding the unblocking the bootloader that you happned to know of and be kind to share it with me Also just wanna say that i can see many tutorials as you said in the development section and i quite frankly i don't know which one applies to me since i realized one of the tutorials are for models with build number .184 where as mine is 3.0.1.a.0.145 AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHICH TUTORIAL TO FOLLOW. So i would be greatfull if you could lend me link to a right tutorial whenever you get free time on the PC
If all you want is root you can do that with a locked bootloader. You will have to downgrade to 2.3.2 (.184) then root then ota to get the latest firmware rooted. Follow the guide here. Or see this post i made here for easier instuctions on downgrading and rooting.
If you want to flash custom roms then you do need an unlocked bootloader like AndroHero has said. You dont need a specific guide to unlock your bootloader. Just go too the SE bootloader unlocking site (it gives you all the instructions you need) http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/. Then just flash doomlords kernel (which autoroots) or anything really from the development section (since i think anything can be rooted with one click with an unlocked bootloader) you will then have root and the ability to flash cutom roms.
Oh btw build number .184 = 2.3.2, build number 3.0.1.a.0.145 = 2.3.3 and build number 4.0.a = 2.3.3 (xloud version, the latest update)
+
If you unlock your bootloader OTA, Pc Companion + SEUS are off limits use any of them after unlocking your bootloader and you will brick your phone. Go to the dev section for the latest updates.

P.S.: Somehow it was not possible to enter caps for the thread title - they always were automatically changed to lowercase. How's that??

The forum software often has a restriction not to allow only caps in the title, you need to have at least one lower-case character.
I have the wifi version also but my device unlocked and rooted, if i flash it from recovery will it wipe everything ??
thanx
You can't flash a FTF from recovery.
Only with Flashtool.
You can set in Flashtool which wipes you want or not.
Root and recovery will be gone, and to regain them we have to wait for Doomlord releasing a new custom kernel suited for .402 firmware.
17.1.A.2.36 vs 17.1.A.0.402
to me this one looks old then what came installed on the tablet ??? according to the numbers
or am i wrong

Hasenbein1966: I guess this forum is meant for helping each other, right ?
If we just throw in some technical terms which won't mean much to others, we should not wonder if the same "others" brick their devices - and then need to ask for far more help.
Providing a single link costs us 10 seconds and makes asker and follow-up readers quite happy and safe.
Keeping "secrets" for ourselves might lead others into great trouble, causing real problems and far more effort to the "experts" - now dealing with an issue with no simple 10-seconds-solution anymore.
"Spoonfeeding" a human baby is a vital step for it learning how to eat without any further help. It's a principle working very well for millenniums, a first step to being able to help yourself. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I just don't know. - I didn't root my Z2s till now because I a) don't want to lose the X-Reality video enhancement, and b) still got no Z2 without any manufacturing defects/touchscreen issues (even after upgrading to .402). :/

Why not try it and report back. If it succeed without unlocking, then great, if not, you don't loose anything. I used the one you linked too successfully on Mac, but mine is unlocked.
If you flash a FTF with the xda flashtool, you don't need to be unlocked. This is the flashtool which is always meant in discussions here, not the Sony one with the same name.

Thanks for your help! Successfully flash and booted up fine without any problems:victory:
Hi guys
I don't know if this is common sense, but when I asked here, I was told my device would be bricked (can't update to newer software when they arrives like Android L). So this might not be helpful to a lot, but it is to me and might be to new people who seek info on their new device and still want to make sure they can update.
I just wrote to customer support and asked if their was any way to update my device with an unlocked bootloader. They told me that I can't update from phone, neither from PC companion. But was told I was still able to download Flashtool and update my device from there.
So hope I helped someone to make sure it works!
When ur phone is bricked u cant update, only thing u can do is to give it to your dog to play with.
But its right with unlocked bootloader u can update via flash, cwm ect which u should do anyway or what would be the reason to unlock it.
IThe only thing u loose is the sony stock stuff like camera app and some more havent had time to read about.
Google the word brick btw

As I understand it you lose your DRM keys. Those keys are unrecoverable and reduces your camera in darkness and audio.
