I have rooted Xperia play by the method of fastboot which greart Bin4ry reported yesterday.
After unlocking bootloader, I can't use SE update service.
But I saw great NielDK has reported a root method without unlocking bootloader this morning.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045266
Can someone know how do reverse the unlock for using SE update service?
I saw great Bin4ry said that I can revert with flashtool to stock rom and make update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042978&page=10
Could someone succeed in getting SE update service by this?
Unfortunately unlock cannot be reversed as of now.
SEUS/PC companion allows update as long as you are on stock, but currently the flash tool does not support xperia play to flash images.

I think I restored a wrong GDFS and my phone is dead
I tried to flash with setool, flashtool and nothing, computer detects the phone but flashing stuck on start.
Today I went with my operator for warranty purposes, and my phone will back to me after 15 days, I think maybe I will change my phone for an Atrix.
Well, I need to wait a few days for that.
Thanks to all, devs, users, and all X10 community for help to make this first Android Xperia one of the sexiest and powerful in past time.
I hope I find my way back to Sony Ericsson, maybe some dual or quad core is what I will be hope.
oooh yeaah and thanks Trip for your awesome gingerbread miui, its the best x10 rom ever.
I hope see you soon pals

You're in the wrong forum. Unfortunate that XDA STILL hasn't given the Ray it's own form yet.. It deserves one.
Here's where the ray development stuff are (Except CM7):

Rooting 2.3.3

That is more tricky and actually requires a but of extra skill you'll have to peel back stuff to get at the testpoint at the back of the phone etc etc... I personally didn't do it because I already had mine unlocked. You are welcome to try it.
Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285285
Let me know how you get on with it
PS: For those of us that have already unlocked our bootloaders, there's no point in performing this
wooohhhh, its again so complicated...will wait for some other quick method. Like we have something for our Xperia Arc

Do it and don't look back! I was never going to then did so just before 283 was released because I didn't want to go through the rigmarole of having to downgrade to upgrade just to root, and so glad I did because I might have ended up with the 0% battery issue, PLUS it makes things like rooting so much simpler, even simpler than an app imo.
What put me off was something screwing up with the boot loader, it's a natural fear, but with Alejandrissimo and Jinx13 on call (more or less A+J? ), a fix is only an internet (and required software) connection away.
Ray can't be gingerbreaked, as there is no 2.3.2 available for it.nso there shouldn't be security issues that can be used for rooting a s-on device.
Just go ahead and unlock it.
As stated above you won't look back.

Guys,
I want to ask same question again.............
Any way to ROOT Xperia RAY with locked bootloader
What about the ZergRush exploit? Doesn't that work for the ray?
The Xperia 2011 Easy Rooting Toolkit works and the Ray is in the compability list.
like what harfot said I'm pretty sure the zergrush method works for the whole 2011 xperia phones its easy to use aswell
How to fix a Hardbricked X8
I have worked out how to fix a hardbricked X8 WITHOUT using PC Companion or Flashtool. You can even use it if xRecovery doesn't work!
First, Download the executable here
Install on a Windows PC
Once installed, Update Service should start automatically. If not, find it in the Start menu.
Find the X8 from the list
It will ask you to connect your phone by taking out the battery, waiting 5 seconds before putting the battery back in again, then pressing and holding the Back button while inserting the MicroUSB cable into the X8
Release the back button when told to do so
Update Service will download the latest ROM, then flash it to your phone
Unplug your phone, then turn it on and it is guaranteed to work if you follow the instructions step by step
I hope this helped, and if it worked for you, hit the Thanks button!
SEUS isn't supported by SE anymore, but it works better than PCCompanion for fixing our phone
Everybody knows this and why do you say you don't need SEUS if you are actually explaining how to use it?

Sorry for my late reply as I have been finishing off my Android app and helping with CyanogenMod on the.Ace. I mainly posted this, not as a guide, but a way to download the latest version of SEUS, as it is hard to get hold of. I got this off a Sony Ericsson employee, and thought others may find it useful.

Hi, I've seen in your signature that you achieved a Quadrant Score of over 1700: what smartphone have you achieved this score on? If it's an XPeria X8 what have you done on it to achieve such a high score? I've never been able to get past about 1025-1030 (my X8 is both rooted, overclocked @ 729.6Mhz and JIT enabled, plus nAa kernel and bootloader unlocked). With that I've too never been able to get a Quadrant score above 1025. So would be curious to know what you have managed to do on this smartphone to get such a high score.
