3.1 WiFi - WiFi disables when device sleeps - Xoom General

Is there any way to keep Wifi enabled on 3.1 when the device sleeps? I have tried a wifi app from the market, but wifi is always completely disabled after like a half hour. I have to open my settings and reenable it. Only happened when I went to the official update from Moto.

Did you set wifi policy to never sleep?

Setting-> Wireless and Networks -> Wifi Sleep Policy
What is it stated there? Is it Always On while you still having this problem?

It's set to Never Sleep. Checked, unchecked, checked again.

Is it pure stock wifi xoom? what customization you have done on it ?

Just root after the official update. I'm going to try the new kernel.

I found my wifi connection to be much more stable with the Tiamat ROMs.

WIFI problem after wake-up in Froyo

Hi,
When i open my phone from sleep it shows me that I'm still connected to my wireless but i cannot access the internet. When i turn off and on the wifi it works fine again but as you can understand this is very annoying. I disabled the wifi sleep option but now my battery gets empty way too fast. Has anyone seen a fix for this?
Thanks
I have a simular issue. Does not happen all the time but frustrating when it does. The same fix of turrning Wi-fi off and back on works for me as well.

Turn off 3g/data then disable wifi sleep, 3g/data uses &*^% loads more battery than wifi
If i leave wifi on all night and turn off 3g/data after 10 hours of sleep i still have 96% battery left

You are right about that. But the fact that the wifi sleep does not function properly still upsets me.

FWIW - similar thing happens to me with stock 1.6
Unchecking the rechecking the wifi box always fixes.

Well i don't think this is a solution. it's very annoying actually. Since it seams that this problem exists from version 1.6 what the heck are they fixing with their updates???

Yeah, I don't see it as a solution either - rather ridiculous you have to do that. Not sure they're fixing anything with their 2.2 lol, maybe creating more issues
did we find a fix?? this is driving me crazy...
Same here just noticed it, for awhile I was thinking it was me forgetting to turn wifi back on, but nope its just jumping back to 3g off wireless.
With all my widgets running I don't want to kill all my data on my plan...I'm always around wifi, so this is killing me..
Wifi going off when the device sleeps send to be an android issue. I had this same problem with my nexus one. Never could get it to stay on all the time agen the device slept.

I have the same problem. Toggling the wifi widget fixes it, but yeah, kinda annoying.
I not sure if this is the same problem but see what happens to mine if I turn My device off or use Airplane Mode when turn on I have no HSPA(3G) or Wi-Fi I can call but no data and I need to do a factory reset to and erase everything make the data works again
The only time mine quits is when I go from wi-fi router to wi-fi router.
Hotspots are ok, but both my home & work routers, both Netgear 614 types
have me reboot the routers if I go out of range, or turn the streak wi-fi
off/on several times. Goofy...tried deleting the profiles and everything else.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.co-uk-syslynx-fixmywifi-ADjA.aspx
try this.. worked for me
also setting router wifi to wep encryption / wpa seems to help
for netgear router set the channel to 3 and use wpa2 aes only and 300mbit max

Wifi Sleep after ICS Update?????

I recently updated my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi to ICS via Kies.
Evertying works, except If I got into the advanced wifi settings and set "keep wifi on during sleep" to NEVER, the tablet doesnt reconnect to wifi when I power the screen on. It just sits at "scanning" forever. I have to manually toggle wifi on/off to get it to connect.
Right now, I have it set to keep wifi on always, but I dont like doing it that way because the tablet dies to quick. Before I had it set to "Never" and didnt have any issue.
I have the wifi model and it has been doing the same thing since the ICS upgrade.

Well, glad it's just not me.. kind of annoying that it does this
Maybe Ill try emailing Sammy and letting them know.
My wifi is still working, it just seems to be slower. Everything seems to run slow and sluggish. It was way faster before the update. I am using stock, have not rooted yet. I update via wifi. Any advise?

I'm having a variation on that. I have the 10.1v and was just updated to 4.0.4 OTA last week. Since then the WiFi will not turn off no matter what setting I use whereas it worked fine with Gingerbread. I don't usually use a SIM card with it, but putting one in had no effect. I'm sure the WiFi stays on as I can ping the device.
I'm not tied to a carrier so I have no 'supplier' to turn to and Sammy isn't too good on support.
Anyone any ideas?

Sorry I should specify that I'm referring the to advanced sleep options only. Perhaps not so obviously, turning WiFi off does indeed seem to turn it off.
I have exactly the same problem as the OP. Both on my GTab 10.1 and GSIII. And Samsung help is absolutely terrible. I tried to resolve another issue with them, it's near impossible to find anybody coherent there. I'm starting to hate Samsung.

[Q] Wi-Fi drops after being in deep sleep

Hi all,
My brand new Nexus 4 doesn't seem to hold a wi-fi connection with my Netgear WNDR3700v2. I've set up a 2.4 Ghz network connection on channel 1 with an AES security. Added the Nexus 4 with a static ip. It will hold the connection for maybe an 20-30 minutes, but if I don't use the phone for a while (like an hour), the wi-fi connection will drop as soon as I press the power-button. The wi-fi icon just disappears and connects after a few seconds, or it turns from blue to grey, disappears and reconnects.
It's really irritating. My Gnex (Android 4.2) en my girlfriends Gnex (CM 10) both have a stable wi-fi connection with the router, all the time. They have the same settings and my Nexus 4 has, just as my old Gnex, activated the wi-fi optimization setting and disabled avoid poor connections. All phones have keep wi-fi on during sleep at always.
I was wondering if someone has similar problems and maybe have an idea what could be the problem here. Thanks!
is sounds like the same issue on the nexus 7

Check your wifi sleep policy in settings. If its set to "never" it will drop when phone is in deep sleep. Try setting it to "always" and see if that helps.

Thanks, but my posts says "All phones have keep wi-fi on during sleep at always."
I rolled back my router firmware to V1.0.0.12 and everything seems to be ok now. Going to run a few more tests.

Wifi not downloading while phone sleeps

Hi,
My nexus 4 is rooted with Carbon ROM 4.3 and Franco kernel. When the phone sleeps it pauses the downloads when I am connected to wifi. In the wifi advanced settings I have the "keep wifi on during sleep" setting set to always. I'm not sure why this is happening. Anyone have any ideas to troubleshoot?
Thanks

This is the default behavior of Android. I know some kernels have tweaks to prevent Wi-Fi from sleeping,I don't know for this device though.

My friend's n4s download while sleeping on Wifi. Same setup.

Looks like I need to turn off Wifi optimization in settings.
Nexus7
Have you tried unticking WiFi optimisation?
You may have to reconnect after changing the setting.
I may try that.
Nexus7
Also uncheck "Avoid poor connections", because it will disconnect from the wifi if the signal goes lower than a certain range.

WiFi doesn't connect automatically with screen off

Hi there. It connects fine as soon as I turn the screen on. Not sure what the problem is. I believe it's a 5.1.1 issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/wifi-issue-t3059452
That link has the same issue and they couldn't figure it out either.
In wifi advanced settings check the wifi sleep policy..
Happened with me before and i found that it was set to sleep while screen is off

I've tried everything. It's not that the wifi turns off when screen is off. It's that it stops scanning to connect to a new network automatically. It'll stay connected to whatever wifi I'm on as long as I'm in range but as soon as I'm out of range, it won't reconnect.
I had the same issue with some non Touchwiz roms like CM and GPE. I believe this is caused by the router. While I am at work it keeps disconnecting, while at home there is no problem at all. So I believe router is the cause of the problem. If you have access to the router, I would try setting to different channels and try.

Thanks for the advice. I had thought that too but I've tested other routers as well. It's a software issue as it works fine on Touchwiz. It's not that it disconnects, it just doesn't switch to any other saved network when the screen is off. As soon as I turn on the screen, it connects right away. All routers and SSIDs.
