I recently updated my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi to ICS via Kies.
Evertying works, except If I got into the advanced wifi settings and set "keep wifi on during sleep" to NEVER, the tablet doesnt reconnect to wifi when I power the screen on. It just sits at "scanning" forever. I have to manually toggle wifi on/off to get it to connect.
Right now, I have it set to keep wifi on always, but I dont like doing it that way because the tablet dies to quick. Before I had it set to "Never" and didnt have any issue.
I have the wifi model and it has been doing the same thing since the ICS upgrade.

Well, glad it's just not me.. kind of annoying that it does this
Maybe Ill try emailing Sammy and letting them know.
My wifi is still working, it just seems to be slower. Everything seems to run slow and sluggish. It was way faster before the update. I am using stock, have not rooted yet. I update via wifi. Any advise?

I'm having a variation on that. I have the 10.1v and was just updated to 4.0.4 OTA last week. Since then the WiFi will not turn off no matter what setting I use whereas it worked fine with Gingerbread. I don't usually use a SIM card with it, but putting one in had no effect. I'm sure the WiFi stays on as I can ping the device.
I'm not tied to a carrier so I have no 'supplier' to turn to and Sammy isn't too good on support.
Anyone any ideas?

Sorry I should specify that I'm referring the to advanced sleep options only. Perhaps not so obviously, turning WiFi off does indeed seem to turn it off.
I have exactly the same problem as the OP. Both on my GTab 10.1 and GSIII. And Samsung help is absolutely terrible. I tried to resolve another issue with them, it's near impossible to find anybody coherent there. I'm starting to hate Samsung.

Hey guys, newbie user and android owner.
I picked up the vibrant the other day. So far its rooted, android-wifi-tether, and i performed the gps fix on it.
I really like the phone, but whenever I connect to my wifi router, it stops all data (android market, web browser, etc) It says connected and doesn't show any signs of problems. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for any help you can throw my way.
Hmm. Mine has problems with "No Connection" when it's connected to my wireless at home, but I just figured it was my router's fault since my computer gives me the "unable to load web page" thing all the time too. My router sucks, though. Maybe your does too?
Yeah, mine does it sometimes too. I just turn on airplane mode, and turn it back off...works fine after that. Its a hit or miss issue.
Mine works fine running off if my router. Btw, do you actually have the wi-fi tether working? Because I thought we needed a working kernal for that to work.
Feeling Vibrant on xda-app
Yup that did it for me. All I had to do was turn on airplane mode and then turn it back off. Wifi working for me now. Thanks.

Please tell us how you got wifi tethering to work without a custom kernel.
From XDA App on SGS-Vibrant
you know, i have a similar issue, where im connected to my router but i dont get internet and 3g goes away the moment i connect to wifi... airplane mode didnt help tho... its interesting really..
ive tried other routers and my phone can get wifi w/internet from them
i did factory reset on my phone 3 times trying to figure this out; 2 of the three times i got wifi to work w/internet until i disconnected and connected again. then i just got the same problem all over again
Hi,
When i open my phone from sleep it shows me that I'm still connected to my wireless but i cannot access the internet. When i turn off and on the wifi it works fine again but as you can understand this is very annoying. I disabled the wifi sleep option but now my battery gets empty way too fast. Has anyone seen a fix for this?
Thanks
I have a simular issue. Does not happen all the time but frustrating when it does. The same fix of turrning Wi-fi off and back on works for me as well.

Turn off 3g/data then disable wifi sleep, 3g/data uses &*^% loads more battery than wifi
If i leave wifi on all night and turn off 3g/data after 10 hours of sleep i still have 96% battery left

You are right about that. But the fact that the wifi sleep does not function properly still upsets me.

Unchecking the rechecking the wifi box always fixes.

Well i don't think this is a solution. it's very annoying actually. Since it seams that this problem exists from version 1.6 what the heck are they fixing with their updates???

Yeah, I don't see it as a solution either - rather ridiculous you have to do that. Not sure they're fixing anything with their 2.2 lol, maybe creating more issues
did we find a fix?? this is driving me crazy...
Same here just noticed it, for awhile I was thinking it was me forgetting to turn wifi back on, but nope its just jumping back to 3g off wireless.
With all my widgets running I don't want to kill all my data on my plan...I'm always around wifi, so this is killing me..
Wifi going off when the device sleeps send to be an android issue. I had this same problem with my nexus one. Never could get it to stay on all the time agen the device slept.

I have the same problem. Toggling the wifi widget fixes it, but yeah, kinda annoying.
I not sure if this is the same problem but see what happens to mine if I turn My device off or use Airplane Mode when turn on I have no HSPA(3G) or Wi-Fi I can call but no data and I need to do a factory reset to and erase everything make the data works again
The only time mine quits is when I go from wi-fi router to wi-fi router.
Hotspots are ok, but both my home & work routers, both Netgear 614 types
have me reboot the routers if I go out of range, or turn the streak wi-fi
off/on several times. Goofy...tried deleting the profiles and everything else.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.co-uk-syslynx-fixmywifi-ADjA.aspx
try this.. worked for me
also setting router wifi to wep encryption / wpa seems to help
for netgear router set the channel to 3 and use wpa2 aes only and 300mbit max
My unrooted Xoom does not want to keep connected to my wifi signal since the upgrade. I did not have this problem before, but now if I set the Xoom down for a minute or so, the screen on or not, and pick it back up it is no longer connected. Sometimes I find I am without a signal when clicking on a link just after entering a web site while actively surfing. I have the wifi disconnect policy set "Never." Is anyone else experiencing more problems since the upgrade?
No issues for me so far.

The only wifi problem I have is the kernel wifi driver memory leak mentioned elsewhere. My xoom will eventually reboot itself if left on wifi overnight.

This really sounds like the WiFi driver leak problem as mentioned before. Your symptoms are exactly what I was experiencing, pre upgrade.
The workaround is to not set the disconnect policy to "Never". Since I have turned that off, I have not seen the problem.
Nope... no problem here... tried to restart?

Sorry, no problems here with wifi.

No problems here either.
Thanks everyone for all the input.
I must have missed the discussion on the wifi driver leak problem but will do a search on it. If you don't use the "never" setting, which one do you use? It looks like a compromise with the other two settings as I like to have the email and the internet ready and waiting when I turn the Xoom on.
To another suggestion, I have tried rebooting several times.
After further use, it now appears to be an intermittent problem as on occasion today it has not been dropping out.
Im also having this problem since the OTA with my Wireless tether connection.
The tiamat kernel fixes the wifi issues. Check it out in the dev section
i am running stock xoom non rooted. I too am seing issues occasionally with wifi. I have noticed the signal has become lower since the upgrade. My connection used to he good and now ranks as fair. I have restarted bit he the access point and the xoom no change
Ever since I updated my Tab to 3.2, my wifi does not automatically reconnect when I wake the Tab from sleep mode. I have to turn wifi off and back on again and then the Tab will reconnect to my router instantly. Does anyone else experience this problem?
It might just be that I am being more patient than you - but what I see is that it takes up to 30 seconds to connect. I'm not sure why.
I think it might have something to do with the router or the encryption or the fact that my SSID is hidden.
If I open the Wi-fi settings immediately after turning on, I can see my neighbour's router almost immediately - yet mine shows as being out-of-range. After a couple of scans, it detects my router, and connects.
My router is a Dlink DIR-615 Rev B, and I use WPA/WPA2 PSK with a hidden SSID
Happens to me too since the update with both my home and work networks, and neither of them are hidden. My home network has no encryption, just uses MAC filtering, work network is WPA.
It's definitely something to do with the update. It worked perfectly before and there are several people on here that have mentioned the same issue.
I have had the same problem since 3.2
Has anyone found a fix for this wifi problem?
Doesn't happen to me. That only happened before the KMN update for Wifi.
Happens to me and it just pisses me off.. I am kinda getting used to it but it is very annoying. I would love if someone could show us a way to fix this because we all know how fast Samsung gives us software updates...lol
Motorola cliq XT>Samsung vibrant > future galaxy nexus!
i have de same problem. When i flash task or bingdroid i cann´t work with my wifi. It´s not detected. But with the stock rom y work with this wifi well. You know what is the problem?
What is the "KMN update for wifi"? The build on my 10.1 is KMM
Thanks for any help on this.
I have noticed it too, just before the second update ota, the "firmware" one.
It just happened after upgrading to 3.2.
I Had to forget my network and configure it again.
Once the internet conexion established, i was proposed to upgrade this firmware part.
The file's size is 3MB

My GTab 10.1 has been doing this since new (3.1). The workaround I use is to set the wifi sleep policy to "Never turn off". Has no real negative effect on battery life.
Go to Settings --> Wireless and networks --> Wi-Fi Settings --> Wi-Fi sleep policy --> select "Never (uses more battery power)"
Same bug. I turn it on and off manually. Not userfriendly but I learned in the last years that samsungs stockroms are never bugfree.
Leaving wifi on consumes more power btw. On my sgs and especially tab.
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9000
yeah i noticed that too on KK4 firmware. It is either slow to connect or not connected at all. I need to on/off the wifi then it is connected.
I have it too. 7510 KMM 3.2
either leave wifi always on or you have to turn it off and on to reconnect.
same issue on tab 10.1 but not on acer
I have the same issue on my Galaxy Tab 10.1...wake up device and no wifi for 1-2 minutes. I also have an Acer Iconia 7 inch but have no such issue...wifi reconnects within a few seconds. Definitely not a router issue. Contacted Samsung and of course they say they have never heard this before, but I can send it in under warranty and have 3.2 reflashed on the device which just seems ridiculous. I think everyone having this issue should start blowing up Samsung's tech support phone lines until they admit this is a real issue and develop a fix. I also wonder if this will be fixed with the ICS update (whenever that happens) or if it is an issue with Samsung tweaking Android with Touchwiz which will undoubtedly be integrated into their "version" of ICS.

I agree. We should also link them to this thread.
Hey does anyone else have problems with the Wi-Fi? It seems that when I turn the Wi-Fi off and want to turn it back on it takes significantly longer to turn on than with my previous android
And I've also noticed that sometimes when I walk out of the range of any router it kind of gets stuck and I'm forced to turn the Wi-Fi off and back on
If anyone reading this post can just add a quick reply saying whether they have this same problem or not that'd be nice
Thanks

I was planning on trying my campus' guests network tomorrow and see how that works out. It my have to do with the verification that my university uses. I would suggest trying the same, if you have a guest network that is.

Same problem here on campus.
Tried using "Best Wifi" and "Wifi Strongest Signal" but I don't think they've been helping.
More of a problem for me since I'm only using this as a Wifi device. (Not activated)
Do iDevices suffer from this issue?
Yeah, I have been having problems with wifi itself. For me, after I turn it off while connected to my home wifi network, I will not be able to connect back into the network until I restart the network. Anyone else having the same issue as this?
