No real need for any of this. Just go to the Overcome thread, download the PDF guide which has links to the stock rom and then the custom rom for safe upgrading.
The guide is easy to follow and has all the needed information.
I tried this on my CDMA Tab yesterday, took a few hours, got it to boot, hung on samsung logo, i am digging the Samsung boot logo though.
No other response, still trying to flash it back to stock verizon, finding stock verizon PIT file was hard, took awhile, it keeps failing, but Ill let it charge back up, try again later.
Oh, lol I own 3 Tabs, was doing this to my "*****" tab. the one I flog with different roms.
I'm also stuck on the Samsung logo. I've reset a couple of times, and also factory reset.
When I factory reset I get an error (in red text):
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
This error happens immediately after: Formatting /dbdata...
Any help appreciated - but please be gently 'cos I'm an Android noob

I would suggest trying out cyanogenmod 7 (link below) first to get used to flashing a new rom. The installation steps are quite straightforward and you will have lots of fun (!!) flashing all the roms on offer.

Remember to be very carefull when unlocking the bootloader, and flashing a rom for the first time, it can brick your phone. Good luck!
I'am also and noob, but this is what I did to instal CM7 Rom. Don't forget to back up your stuff.
Go through the instruction on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871
Download from megaupload is not available, the alternate link is
http://www.mediafire.com/?x4m1ul78tzwsdmc
Follow the instruction.
After this download superuser from market and then root manager. Open root manager and select Flash ClockworkMod recovery, it will download CWM and CWM will be flashed. Open root manager again and select back up your current ROM, it will ask confirmation and then reboot and do its thing and again reboot. After that download the rom you want to flash and copy it to your internal SD card (don't unzip it, copy the zipped file). Go to the ROM manager and select Install rom from the SD card and select the rom you just copied. It will ask confirmation and then reboot and do its magic and you will have your ROM installed

Hi there
I am a total novice and foolishly attempted to root my galaxy note. i managed it, but the performance was really slow and i didnt know what i was doing. i think (or thought) i unrooted it and got rid of the CWM thing.
I have just tried to update firmware via KIES and it says "YOUR DEVICE DOES NOT SUPPORT SOFTWARE UPDATING VIA KIES"
What does this mean?
Does it mean i cannot receive any updates (including ICS when it finally arrives)?
Does it mean i have not put a stock ROM on (as i thought i had)?
Im totally clueless and am worried ive messed my note up
Please help a foolish novice
Dont be panicked, if u still rooted just flash ur stock rom again using mobile odin, and uncheck all ever root boxes if u dont want root any more

Rom packages come in many flavour. As a guide to newbie, odin works with .tar files. So if you downloaded a .tar, there is no need to uncompress.
Anyway, as been repeated several times in this thread, if you read from ketan's tutorial, you should have not asked the question....

BASEBAND: N7000XXLB2

CUSTOM ROM : DarkyRom_Note v3.4[final]
For some month's ago i had a Galaxy S Plus and i liked it, but i wanted to flash a custom ROM on it. So i updated it with Odin to the newest stock firmware, and i innstalled Clockworkmod so i could flash a custom ROM.
So i flashed the custom ROM (MoonRom) on it using AROMA innstaller and it went successfully. And i used the ROM for one day, and it was fast, and so on, and had a funny sound when u pressed on the dialer keypad, like a water drop sound
I liked the ROM, but i wanted it back to stock (warranty reasons) .So i put to phone into download mode and i used Odin + the pit file and flashed it back to stock firmware and wiped out and formatted everything on it using recovery mode.
And later i used the phone dialer, and the keypad sounds from the custom ROM was still there, after i reflashed it????
I was extremely confused i flashed a billion stock firmwares on there and that water drop sound when u tapped the dialer keypad was still there. I had formatted it and everything and it was still there after flashing back????
I know own a Galaxy S II, and i will never flash somethign custom on there i am afraid that if i do that and then reflash back. Something on the old rom will ble left.
After that i gave my mom the phone. And i was extremly confused...
Maybe the keypad sound is left on the sd card?

So do you know any way to get the keypad sounds back??? And also the keyboard sounds are also left from the custom ROM.
If you flashed back using Odin then its impossible that the sounds remain.
I can make you a flash package that should enable the stock samsung sounds if you really want it? You just have to tell me what firmware you will be running i.e. Gingerbread or ICS?

My suggestion is to get a Nokia 3310 or an iPhone, Or at least do not come here and bore us with stories about why you dont want to flash your phone.

I'm not sure what that rom is. It was posted in the dev forum and op offered almost no details. All I know is that the file name is SM-S920L3.tar and it weighs in at 1.4GB.

In that case they must have put it up just recently. Things are starting to look up for us after all.
Maybe, I'm not going to be the guinea pig here and risk my phone on some unknown rom without a custom recovery available to backup and restore my phone should something go wrong.

Thanks, man! I'm having a few issues that I can live with with my phone, but if this works ok, I might just flash it. Oh, and I spoke with a few Straight Talk CS reps and they say that neither Tracfon, nor Samsung are going to release a stock ROM for 5.0.2. Perhaps some day we'll get an update to 5.1.1.
Ok so I it flashed in about 3 minutes for me with a pass. I noticed a set bit warranty: cache and system. I pulled the battery and then powered back on and got this:

I factory reset and wiped cache and tried it again and got the same results. However this time after wiping cache it did boot up but there is one problem as you shall see here:
this is for a core prime. SM-G360M international model.
