Hi all,
I have got an Ericsson F3307G, is there any way to add it into Acer Iconia Tab A500?
thnx
Good question - I don't anyone could answer that without actually cracking open the tablet and having the knowledge to decipher the internals.
Normally, I wouldn't think it would just be a simple, solder it in place and call it a day situation. But, one never knows.
Did you see this guy rip open his? On androidtablets net, post- 13577-whats-under-hood-acer-iconia-tab-a500.html. Sorry I would put up a proper link but I am a newb.
I wonder if that little white strip in middle leftish is an internal sd card?
I have seen a tear down, though I don't know if its that one.
Either way, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if that would work or not.
Be interesting to find out.
thanks to all for replies. What i search for were internal pictures.
In particular, this:

it should need to solder a mini pciexpress slot on those pins on board (with sim card holder).
this is the thread:
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...77-whats-under-hood-acer-iconia-tab-a500.html
Yep. That's the image I saw and I doubt it would be just a simple solder job. Why not try it?
EDIT
Besides, it barely looks like it's got any chips on that part of of the PCB and you'd need to add a connector point for the SIM connector to slide into. I think if you got that far, it could very well that the board itself will not accept an after market part like that or that they remove all functionality of that type for wifi models in a future update.
anyway it's bad idea, it's difficult to install beacouse sim card holder will be in wrong direction ti insert sim card if it added :/ the correct way is to buy the a501 version.
thanx to all for your reply and to drive away my dubious
I think the Mainboard is the same for all A5XX model so they just didn't put the
- miniPciE port
- controller O21 and D3 position...
so far I think that will be... risky, not sure to work, and not worth the time to try to SOLDER anything.... sadly.... I was really expected they put the modules functionnal but just not the 3G Card... that will be so nice from ACER...
----- hope the 3G on USB will be ripoff
I heard about some kind of Wifi boxes you put the 3GDongle on it, and all your HomeWifi got internet via 3G.... is that could works?

Can someone help me identify the part that is missing from the case of my 8525? If you are looking at the back of the case, the silver cylinder thingy that fits in the opening on the bottom right corner of the case is missing. I'd like to know what this piece does and if I need/should replace it.
TIA for any help!
Mine came the same way from AT&T. I always assumed it was for a Hermes feature AT&T opted not to include in their model, similar to the second camera.
Your stylus is missing
Easy enough to buy another ....

Not the stylus hole... the OTHER side
The stylus fits in the hole on the left side (from the back of the 8525), I'm referring to the hole on the RIGHT side. I believe it is usually covered with a silver circular thing.
That silver ring is nothing more than a place to attach a lanyard to give it it's fancy name. In other words a hook to clip a carrying strap onto if you want one. HTC supply a short wrist lanyard that clips onto the ring - other suppliers I don't know.
You are really not missing anything - with many phones the strap is an optional part.
This sort of thing:

Many thanks Mike (though, secretly I was hoping that it was a missing antenna attachment that would explain why my reception lately has been flakier than a stale croissant)!

You MAY be suffering from the signal flipping from GPRS to 3G. If you get dropped calls and high battery drain, you may want to select GSM Band only in:
Start>Settings>Phone>Band. (Change from Auto to GSM)
(Some branded models do not have this option)
I stress IF you have this problem. BUT it may be worth a try just to see if things improve. If you do not have the option then do a search on Bandswitch or Commmgr.pro

EDIT: By the way there is a place to attach an external aerial under the round rubber pop out cover on the back cover.
Hi everyone,
Today I bought a set of new styli from Adapt for my Hermes. I used it for a few times today. But one time when I reinserted the stylus after entering some text, I heard a "knack" sound in the silo. Now my stylus will fall out when picking up the device. I am very disapointed with this particular Adapt product and recommend everybody who reads this post to not purchase their styli.
But my real question is, does one of you know how to fix this?

You have either broken the white clip or dislodged the rubber block.
You would need to remove the back casing (4 screws) and unclip around the edge.

nice one mike, excellent answer.have a go dude its very easy actually
Fixed it!
Thanks Mike,
Fixed it this evening. Indeed, it was just too easy! Only releasing the back, after unscrewing it, was kinda tricky. Everything turned out fine and it works like a charm now.
Thanks again!
Scott
Good news!
I forgot to mention, but I'm sure you remembered to line up the camera's macro toggle arm when putting the back on again. If not you'll find the macro switch doesn't work. If so it's easy to remove the back, line iup the switch (a bit fiddly) and replace back cover again.
Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the tip.
Before I attemted the "surgery", I read the blog you reffered to throughoutly. So I knew about the macro switch. But thanks again!

Connected external antenna to ipaq hx4700. Antenna was from a Belkin Mimo router that had the right size connector (very small IPX connector)
First removed existing connector/wire on wifi board that leads to onboard antenna, then connected external antenna wire to board.
Antenna was omni-directional so there was not much difference in signal. Might try making a directional parabola to fit around the rubber ducky and test with mini stumbler.

DIY BGA RAM upgrade...hmm, now where did I put that toaster oven.
That Chinese site "translation" says:
The ninth step, the new memory chips placed on the chip welding position, alignment solder joints, is very simple, because the chip is surrounded by a white frame, as long as the alignment position on the list.

I'm surprised how much space there is btw the spots on the BGA chips.
I wish I had a rework station. Has anybody else tried this? I know about PPCtechs, I'm talking DIY.

Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.

Sorry maybe I misunderstand, are you Yanzeyuan? If so, great write up over there! I wish I could read Chinese.
Welcome to xda-dev!
If anyone's interested, I found an excellent site with alot links to technical info on the hx4700. It's in Czech so Google translate. Links to chips, antenna, etc. Best tech info on 4700 I've found so far.

for example some antenna specs:
Not being able to find a car-holder that would hold my Touch Pro in widescreen
with the keyboard extended firmly and still allow for a power-cable,
I designed this car-holder.
It ataches to anything that can carry a camera (1/4") and to the slide-in car.holders
from HAMA (they sell suction cups, air-hole -attachments, glue-ons and screw-ons).
You can attach the supplied and wider third-party cabless, reach the power-button
and it even comes with a hole to keep yout touch-pen.
If anyone wants one of these,
I can print them for 35eur+postage on my 3D-printer.

Any chance I could get the .stl file? I'd like to use it with my schools 3D printer.

You don´t seem to have that printer for a long time yet to not know http://www.thingiverse.com/
It´s the first place to look for the STL-files of things ment to be printed.
Didn't think to look there. I thought you would've posted a link in here, but oh well.
Thanks!
IGES or STEP
Hi, is it possible to get a IGES or STEP File from you. I want to make one at Work, but from aluminum, with a CNC Mill.
My CAD/CAM Software takes STL files, but import of STL is not the best. It works better with IGES or STEP.
At the moment I am working on a Desktop Dokingstation, its not ready but will be in a short period of time. Will post it here.
Like this?
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2195
It´s the original Alibre Design files.
With milling you´d have to work very deep in the material without your toolhead touching the sides
and you certainly have to run multiple faces. I don´t think that will work well.
I´m using my Touch Pro only for development now that I switched to the Nexus One.
I have to say that it pretty cool stuff. Nice work Marcus. What cool times we live in when you can design and fab your own accessories for your phone. Thanks for sharing.
I'm new to WP7 devices. I just bought an HTC Surround from eBay and it seems to be in some kind of bricked or semi bricked state. It used to be in an eternal reboot cycle but i managedd to fix that by some how (miraculously?) formatting the internal SDHC card. Now the device doesn't rebbot like it used to but insted turns on and stops at the connect to computer screen. I have tried syncing with Zune but got the 10100 error saying that there wasn't any backup. What do I do? Do I have to reflash the stock? If so which one and where is it? I have posted which mode the Surround ends up in and the tri-color screen for the SPL version if it is needed for the ROM. Thanks!

Ok so i have flashed the rom already. But, how long is it supposed to stay at the HTC screen? It seems to be as if it were stuck or something.

Thanks! Just as you said it was the dumb SDHC card. I have been reading somewhere else here on XDA that quite a number of Wp7 phones have this same problem too, some cards aren't just fast enough despite their class. Sure enough I removed the card and finally it booted up. I'm checking the card out so far and it seems pretty slow to me for a class 2, what a bummer. Oh well looks like I'll have to spend some more. I was expecting to resell this thing.
deleted
Not so much, at least for me. All you have to do is pretty much remove the backing of the surround and click he card out of the slot that is next to the SIM slot. What makes it hard is removing the back case because it in two parts but an iPhone opening tool makes it easier to open it.
deleted
Damn, this isn't good. After looking closely turns out that the PCB that holds both thebSIM and microSD slots is missing some resistor/fuse thingies. I tried to bridge them but somehow it still doesn't work with any card at all. This fixing thing is starting to suck. I tried googling for the part but I just can't find it. If you know of where to buy it or maybe have a spare one that would be great. I'll post some pictures later of how the part looks like.
[EDIT] I have uploaded some pictures and highlited where the resistors are missing.

I reinstalled the part and put in another card. (class 4) and it doesn't even recognize that there even is a card installed, it also warms up really bad. Bootloader reports SD NONE, i think it fried or something.
