No ... a good point and a definative reason to use it instead of Messenger.
Great! Thanks
Cool, I actually just tried to put agile on my wizard yesterday. Everything was lookin good. I signed on AIM and could recieve message, but the ones I sent never made it through. It would also disconnect when the device was in standby for a minute or so, but that was probably the fault of the rom. Use of softkeys would make this program really nice.
great news...
i found that agile did work on my jasjar but the today screen plug in always gave an error..
is there any voip features??? or google talk???
thanks
im so hapey im tring not to cray :,-) i love Agil, sethmw can u add support for cam on Qtek 9000 and Qtek 9100 can u?

Hi,
You were mentioning that Agile is free, but according to the agile mobile website, you have to pay for Agile messenger. So what's up with that? :?:
ozVGA
To: Sethmw
Will be the new version QVGA ready?
Not to be a stickler, but you mentioned the same "Agile rewrite" story in a few weeks and offered me to be part of a beta in a private message... which I still have, dated October 24, 2005, and you haven't responded to any of my emails or PMs since then.
While I'm glad there's finally some apparent progress, I would have hoped to be part of that development to make sure the next version that comes out isn't going to be riddled with bugs that we'd have to wait weeks at a time for updates...
IM+ seemed to have stopped at 4.04 back when I purchased it in December and I, too, have been emailing them with a bunch of bug fixes and feature requests, also without response.
Let's hope someone pulls through with a decent IM for the Pocket PC platform, finally.

Here, here! This is the one area where windows mobile just doesn't have a really good piece of software at any price.
It's a bummer that it sounds like the promise of a revamped version of Agile hitting open beta soon might be an empty one...
Agile Beta
The reason for the delay in the Beta is the fact that it was an entire re-write. Agile Messenger has been in development for over 3 years now. To expect us to re-write the client for WM 5.0 in 3 weeks is a DREAM.
The new client has been in development since late September and will be available for public Beta in the next couple of weeks. Sending PM's asking for it today is a waste of time, because we do not want to release the Beta until we are internaly satisfied with it as a release candidate. The purpose of the Beta is to work out bugs, not to release a version that is not ready to be used publicaly.
Everyone on this forum will recieve the Beta at the same time, which as I said will be available here in the next few weeks.
Agile Messenger for Symbian phones currently has a license fee in certain markets as we develop our billing network.
Agile Messenger for Windows Mobile will be free for the time being and will eventualy be a licensed product as well.
As I said we have a team of developers that have been working on Agile Messenger for over 3 years now, and we currently support 4 operating systems and over 40 unique devices. I like to think that we provide a product that is better then any of the other solutions out there, and we would like to continue to do that. Therefore at some point it is neccesary to charge a license fee, as unfortunately we can not support a staff of developers over an infinate period of time as a charity.
We appreciate your continued support, and intend to continue to provide a solution that is second to none.
For those of you that expect special treatment and early Beta's it is simply not possible as we intend to provide it to the entire community as soon as our internal devlopment team and quality controll is satisfied that it is ready for public release.
Thanks again, and we look forward to your feedback.

QVGA
In response to the question regarding QVGA, we hope to be releasing a version for WM 5.0 Smartphone devices at the same time as the version for the WM 5.0 PPC based devices.
The new version should support:
Push To Talk
Image Transfer
Emoticons
Group Management
Typing Notification
Support for AOL, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, and Google Talk
Amongst a number of other new features, and an entirely new interface.
There have ben a number of internal builds over the past few months, and we expect to be releasing a Beta very shortly.

Does the fact that you are posting on Universal’s forum mean that there will be a version of Agile messenger specialized for the Universal?
For instance on Nokias you have the option Send picture from new, meaning that the software is aware of the camera on the mobile. The other thing that I was always missing on my Nokia, I believe that on PPCs it is even more needed, is the FILE TRANSFER. Will you make this possible?
Thanx
Can anyone post the new version here as soon it's released. Thanks
Not new exactly, just newer the version works better on the WM phones
http://www.mgmaps.com/
I feel it's better than the Microsoft live search program. Only thing missing is the voice prompt.
Yes I'm aware how much better the commercial software $$$ is out there. this is a free software and combines a lot features.
Someone also said u can use tie this into www.gmap-track.com to track your cars when your gps is on in the car. I dont know how to get that work yet.
[Update] I figured it out. Pretty cool tracking tool. If you are a stalker the possibilities are endless *LOL*
Next version of Windows Mobile: Derek Snyder, Microsoft employee, gave this presentation which was under NDA and can’t be discussed in detail. I can tell you that I have seen the next version of Windows Mobile (not Windows Mobile 7) that is scheduled to ship to manufacturers in the 1st quarter of 2008. We saw it running on current hardware, but that does not mean that wireless carriers or manufacturers will necessarily provide the update to consumers. Personally, I think this is the OS that Windows Mobile 6 should have been and I think that consumers will be quite pleased with the functionality and features of this next update.
I found out this Here
So, the xdains here will be able to port it to all devices hopefully.
wont it just be like having win xp and making it look like vista. no real changes just look
No it won't be like changing WinXP to look like Vista... because there are MAJOR differences between XP and Vista.
At the very least theres an entirely new sound and graphics subsystems, all new memory management systems, all new security systems... anyways far too many to list here! but you really should learn about whats different before passing judgement!
ahhh, it's not any where near the coolness of iPhone. I wonder when microsoft going to implement the gesture to its application. I have been microsoft long time fan, hate it to switch provider.
another blog (who was present in Amsterdam) i just read said that along with the new WM6 look, the WM6.1 or the upgrade will have new applications.. among those are : group or team calendar (maybe an outlook calendar update), wherein you can simultaneously see multiple calendars and agendas (from different people) allowing schedule and agenda synchronization between the two (super useful if you have a partner and needs to easily squeeze a meeting/date between two crowded agendas).. no more asking "are you free this afternoon?".. and an application called "Oops! I'm late" (funny name), which uses GPS and mobile internet to automatically pinpoint your exact location, assess nearby traffic and geographical situation, and automatically computes your ETA (estimated time of arrival) based on calendar appointments.. and it AUTOMATICALLY sends out emails and text messages to people in your appointment, notifying them that you will be coming late along with your ETA and the current traffic situation at your location.
very very nice.. along with that.. is a major visual overhaul! i hope it'll look like the glassy vista style interface seen in microsoft demo site here
good news!!!
For the love of GOD, please, PLEASE update that pos Pocket Outlook. I beg you.
Anymore screenshots??? i really dont see MUCH of a difference?

no screen shots are possible or any other info (as of what the real WM6.1 upgrade interface looks like and what are its new features), except those already given by the bloggers who were present at the Mobius event at Amsterdam.. they were all sworn to a NDA or Non Disclosure Agreement.. meaning no information, other than those agreed to be disclosed (the 2 applications namely Team Calendar and Oops! I'm Late - these served as a sneak peak/teaser) should be leaked out or else, those persons will be legally liable to face the law.. they can say many things about the new look in general adjectives such as beautiful, revolutionary and long awaited, but you can't force them to tell the specifics or their asses will be kicked by Microsoft BIGTIME..
so as of now.. we only have speculations about the NEW look, based on what we have seen earlier and the rumors running around the net (the Windows media center-like carousel like that in the T-mobile shadow or the Palm 500v, the integration of Vista Side Show, and a new GUI effect)..
if you'll be patient.. i can feel that this new WM6 will surely be presented to the public at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) this coming January..
hmm sounds cool! + i would be really happy if i could sync my stuff with integrated vista apps and not just outlook..
I'm very ready to give it a try next year...the sooner the better for us!!!!
Anyone think M$ would have released this update free were it not for the iPhone?
Well I'm looking forward to seeing this.
Come on people - if we're asking for things we can't get without people getting into legal issues (i.e. Screenshots, additional details) why not go all out! I personally would like to request a leaked rom!
I am really glad that I have chosen the WM platform for my phone. It was so much fun being able to upgrade from the very original WM5, then the various flavours of WM6 ROM. My phone is one year old now but it still feels new to me.
I don't know of other phone platforms which let me do the same.

Once again it seems amazing. SPB Rules...

MAybe this version will seduce me back!

i wonder what happened to v4?
apparently version 4 isnt lucky in the east!
the number 4 and the word death are too similar and is deemed unlucky or something....

There was a post made on the SPB fan page of Facebook that said Q2 2010 release date. I guess that's the only indication they are giving as far as a release timeframe at this point.
MobileShell 5 on HD2:

The 3D-carousel seems to need more graphical power, but the overall usability seems to be nice...
Defenitly worth a try. The multipage-slider reminds me of the phones with Android (f.e. HTC Hero)...

maybe he just needs the chainfire opengl drivers =)
It looks great!
Cool .. still I think that animations, much more 3D animations, in shell, are just a waste of battery, sometimes even waste of time.

MArk.
yet nobody could find the version 5?
I ran it can't say i was overly impressed, it's nice and it is smooth on the rendering front however if you use bluetooth audio like i do you have to set up media player every time to get it to work.
It just shows an umpty library you have to manually add items to play each time
the abilty to add widgets to your home page is pretty cool though but after a few weeks of usage i went back to sense
Hi!
Anyone knows when the 5.0 will be released? I just can´t wait to get my hands on it...
*push*
Greetings from Germany!
I received my Aquaris Ubuntu phone yesterday, 19.03.2015. Needless to say I was excited but also wasn't expecting much since it's the new kid on the block.
I want to be clear that the cons that I point out only reflect my opinion and in no way should they be construed as an attack on Canonical or a diminishment on their attempts to break into the mobile space.
I've been a linux user since 2006 and an ubuntu user since version 8.04 and while I wasn't expecting much I still wanted to support Canonical's efforts by purchasing their first unit that they offered to us end users.
I was a power Android user for 4 years before I switched to the Nokia N9 for a year and then to the Blackberry Z30 for the past year. I'm partial to gesture based OSs hence why I use and enjoy BB10OS so I was stoked to learn that Ubuntu Touch is a gesture based OS.
First the pros:
1. Love the UI and the simplicity of it. Reading the Help app and swiping N,S,E,W pretty much gets you up and running.
2. Idea of Scopes and how they're implemented. When I first read about it I wasn't impressed...after seeing it in person I really like it.
3. There's just under a 1000 apps/scopes in the store and I've found quite a bit of good stuff already....travel, public transport, translate, online shopping, social, etc
Granted, alot of the "apps" open mobile versions of websites but I've also installed genuine, native apps. The mobile websites don't bother me but that is a subjective thing.
Now the cons:
1. Contacts and calendar sync is Google only...no option to set up a Carddav or Caldav servers.
2. No built in email client
In regards to #1, this is in my view a huge mistake. I made a conscious decision a year ago to completely move away from Google services. I use Memotoo for contacts and calendar. Why in god's name Canonical would make everything Google centric relegates the phone to a "neat toy". They're essentially dictating what services I have to have in order to use their product. Bewildering to say the least since this is linux. We're not talking about proprietary standards here either...Carddav and Caldav are free to use and implement. No work even needs to be done on their end as syncevolution is a finished and complete product.
Point #2, WTF are they thinking? Remember how much flak Blackberry took for not including a native client in the Playbook? Canonical should be hammered in the same way for releasing a mobile phone without email capabilities. The only options in the store are webapps for once again, Google, Yahoo and an email client, Dekko, that just offers the same thing as the webapps but is a genuine native app...however, no IMAP or POP capabilities. You can also forget about Exchange support. I think that is a pipe dream at this stage. In regards to Exchange support, I have no problem paying for this as I don't expect that to come for free.
While I wasn't expecting much and was already prepared to not have many things that I do with Blackberry I was left scratching my head with what was left out as these are very big things to leave out...these are open, non proprietary standards (Caldav, Carddav, IMAP, POP).
If you rely on google services then you'll enjoy the full experience of Ubuntu Touch and I highly recommend you take the plunge...if not, then you're left out in the cold for now. Hopefully in the next 6-12 months Canonical or the community will have these things ironed out.
For now my Ubuntu phone is going in the drawer and I'm going back to my Z30. I'm a service rep and I have to be able to call and email clients when I'm in the field and be able to email and communicate with the home office hence why I need contact sync, email and calendar support via my employer and Memotoo. Without these basic necessities the phone is useless for me.
Best Regards,
sb74
Well it is Linux, surely u can just install what you need.
personally I like using mutt for emails across all distros, but should be easy to install a arm pkg for another client you'd like or get involved with software developement?
Im not a massive fan of google but contact sync is ok since I'm coming from android.
For CardDav/Cal Dav I think somebody just needs to implement an OnlineAccounts provider for your service, the same as how the Google provider does it.
Dekko works fine with IMAP, though not POP (the core of Dekko is Trojita, which is IMAP only). It is not developed by Canonical and is currently in the middle of some pretty big changes, but ultimately it's the OEM who decides which apps to ship by default.
BTW, if you don't have it already, get the Forum Browser app to read and post here ?

thanks to snowboarder74 for this informative review.
now, half a year later, i would be interested in getting a ubuntu phone.
what do you think? esp. as to the cons #1 and #2 pointed out in the original post?
Anyone know if these issues are still valid?
No native whatsapp client yet

Sorry, we're into OTA-13 now and we still don't have it. Also, I don't think we will have a client in the near future. Some have suggested Whatsapp web but that is not the best given the ease we have as using on other platforms.
As a suggestion, you can use Telegram, which is available on almost all mobile platforms under the sun. Of course, it is up to you
