Q & A?????? - Droid X General

This is completely irrelevant to everything but why are we one of the only forums that doesn't have a Q & A sub-forum?

I think that falls under general.

There are specific requirements for a Q & A subforum, I'll look them up.
But, philosophically, I've never seen the point: if users don't search in general, why would they search in Q & A?

Agreed, its pretty ridiculous when people post a question that has been answered in posts even on the same page they posted on. Users need to do little more research before they jump in blind and just ask for help. We may be a forum to help others, but come on, if u can't take the time to read and learn u shouldn't be screwing around with a six hundred dollar phone....

Having been here a long time I completely agree with you guys about people searching. I just found it odd that there were certain devices with Q&A but we didn't have one

I have found a generic Google search to be far more effective than the XDA app search.

I agree. Google will bring up all the forum posts. I spend most of my time on dxf and I find the search functions to be unuseful unless you have an exact phrase match.

Camera and force stops with the sports option

Not sure what happened to my last thread, but I was given really detailed info on how to fix my camera and it was gone before I had the time to take advantage of it Nothing like wasting the time of those willing to help you. Hopefully I just couldn't find it, but I checked my subscribed threads and nothing was there.
If you have recovery installed, you can install one of the kernels in the development forum. They have the camera fixes built in.

I don't know squat about any of this, which is why I didn't just use the instructions people had already given in other threads. They use terminology I don't understand and assume you know what they are talking about when they say use this kernel or that one (or whatever). I just checked and somehow I'm not subscribed to this thread as well. Maybe the other one is still here... I have never been on a forum where you weren't automatically subscribed to your own threads.
Ah.. well I found your thread lol. I'm using xda app so don't know if it'll link right, if not just copy and paste.

I don't understand why people aren't being reamed more for this! The first time this happened when 2.2 dropped, people were getting flamed hard for starting new threads. We know that they know the answer... but they still want to pester and ask the question... as if it will bring the solution sooner.
Just do the pre-order for the 3D and get that phone. It will be permanently S-OFF out of the box!

cry me a river dude. you didnt take the time to try and solve the problem yourself. a simple search would have turned up the 700 other threads on the same subject. in fact, when you start a new thread and type in the thread title it automatically loads a list of similar threads which you obviously ignored. no sympathy from me. next time, dont be lazy and search
I don't understand this attitude... If it wastes your time then don't answer. Some people use the xda app which all of you xda cops should know is not search friendly. I get it though... its easy to tell someone what they should or shouldn't do on these forums.

Search in Stock messaging app

I was fairly surprised today when I tried to search my conversation list in the stock messaging app for a particular person. I knew the thread was there but search returned zero results.
So Google the kings of search have made a messaging app that doesn't allow you to search by sender? Really? That's beyond useless.

Legit Question
EDIT: This flaming was not deserved... Sorry for my hasty reply from a hasty read...
Absolutely sure that you are joking... I haven't had any problems searching the threads any time on my Nexus 4 when it was on Stock ROM or CyanogenMod.
If you provide more details about the phone, ROM and other things and conclusive proof of this blame, it may be believed. Till then, this is an unnecessary thread :/

I'm talking about the xda forums in specific. He said "Google as well." But he's also asking for people to change the name of the One on the xda forums in specific, so Google is really a moot point, since you have an xda search function. You can't really help Google anyway (except to do things like search "HTC One -X -V -S" etc.), but there are way to search xda threads to narrow posts down to One-only posts.

Neither did I. I said to use the search feature on the xda forums to search for posts in the HTC One forum in specific. You can also used the advanced features to search through posts separately instead of topics.
I'm just saying... this is not something that can or will be changed, so you just have to find ways to make the best of it.
You can do "not" searches in google also. Ex.
Htc one cases -"one x"

It's exactly that bad
I found about 8 iterations of the HTC One which had to be prefixed with -
Search for "HTC One M7" That usually finds best results so the OPs suggestion is spot on.
I was going to make a similar suggestion about a month ago but expected the same negative responses so I didn't bother.
Yes HTC One M7 is how I look usually
But I kinda like HTC1 reminds me of the N1
It would have been so much better if they had stuck with M7. So much easier to find anything when searching. And M7 is cool, kind of James Bond-ish. Oh well . . .

Why so smug?
I'm searching xda for an xda kernel. I don't go outside xda much for obvious reasons. So why should I base my search outside xda? Your link did give me what I needed. But that required a different website all together.
A simple answer from you could of sufficed. No need for the attitude.

Sorry, it's not a smug attitude more of a "surviving in XDA" attitude.
That kernel is based on a very popular kernel by yank from xda, however he doesn't support mirrored links.
The kernel has been referenced a lot on XDA but he hasn't started his own thread mainly to get people to go to his forum.
There we go. Forgive me for not being here on xda long enough to realize who he is.
You don't search xda = chastised for not searching
You search xda with no results = learn to survive.
