Now I miss my Galaxy S. The main reason for me to jump the boat was horrendous lag in Galaxy S. I bought Nexus S i9023 on 2-May. On 4-May, Samsung released 2.3.3. XWJVH. I was a happy happy customer as Nexus S was really snappy and looked nice, but XWJVH converted Galaxy S into a totally different phone. It was snappy, no lags.
Now that Galaxy S is gone (sold on eBay), I miss it - SAMOLED, Gorilla Glass, FM, external SD slot, 720p recording. This accompanied with a sudden fall in Nexus S prices is really depressing me. May be its buyer's remorse. Anyone else coming from Galaxy S, and missing it?

Don't miss it eating battery's, skipping keyboard keys, wobbly keyboard hinge, and the hardware making developers pull their hair out in turn making development slow as dirt.

+1.. depends on which area you're from. Some countries have the SLCD version
I only missed my vibrant because NS lacks all the video codecs
That changed couple days ago with dice player release now i dont miss anymore
I have the original 9020T SAMOLED version i wouldn't have sold my vibrant for a NS if it was SLCD.
I knew what i was getting into when i made the switch ..I can live without external storage and 720p record but not the screen
OP i would have invested my money towards a galaxy S 2

In Australia, Nexus S was released with a SLCD screen, and thats what I have. Looks like I jumped the boat too quick.

May be in US, Galaxy S is different from Galaxy S in Australia. My Galaxy S had none of those weak points coz there were no keyboard keys. The only issue I had was its performance on Froyo, and unending delay in getting Gingerbread.

I have to admit that there are times when I miss my SGS but generally I much prefer the experience the Nexus S gives me.
I only wish the NS had the video codecs out of the box that doesn't require 3rd party video players to work. I don't really shoot video so HD doesn't concern me much.
I find that the build quality of the SGS isn't as good as the Nexus S either.
No gorilla glass, no external SD, no 720p. Sure nice to have, but you knew this before buying it.
No FM, does anyone listen to radio anymore? Only radio I listen to is one show on SiriusXM. If I want music, I have Pandora and mp3s.
Prices going down on Nexus S? Well yeah, it's almost 6 months old already. Prices go down after some time on stuff, especially technology.
I have an SGS on Verizon (Fascinate) and it is completely horrible. I think it is Verizon's fault, though.

Heck you're lucky. The Samsung Fascinate (SGS) just got Froyo last month. It runs completely terrible too. Freezes up, slow, random bugs. I blame Verizon and their Bing integration into the phone.
i came from SGS to NS .. and i am satisfied ..
2.3.4 Android + newest udpates from google
no lags
awesome camera + flash light
no gorilla glass but it has the Oleophobic surface
no HD recording - not missing it
SLCD - very nice , comparable with SAMOLED
16GB of storage - common guys , that needs to be enough for a phone!
no xvid divix? who cares - install Rockplayer , all videos work , even some .mkv
any questions? .. let me know ..
Honestly, the only thing I am missing the most is HD video quality. I shoot a lot of videos of my little daughter who is just 2.
I think the video quality of SGS was much better than that of NS. I probably didn't do my research properly this time and just went ahead with this purchase. I assumed a bit, and many sites claim that Nexus S hardware is exactly same as Galaxy S. Many sites even claim that Nexus S shoots 720p video.
Only after I had sold off my SGS on ebay (within 3 days of buying NS), I realized that NS video quality wasn't upto SGS and then I discovered that it doesn't support 720p videos, and records in oldish .3gp format.
May be its just me, but I think even camera shots from SGS have more crisp colors (as seen on my laptop screen) compared to shots from NS.
I love the clean 2.3.4 look, overall feel & weight of the phone, Outlook email/calendar background and fonts (I hated all black calendar on SGS), stock messaging (compared to ugly yellow/blue on SGS) and everything else - But an inferior camera module is proving to be a deal breaker for me unfortunately.
I really want to change to a new phone now, but 4.3" is not my cup of tea. I would like my phone to be 3.7" or 4.0" max. Looks like, currently Galaxy S and Nexus S are the only good phones available in this size range. I think I have to wait for more models to be launched before I change again.

you came from a SGS and recommend using rock player its software rendered junk nothing like the galaxy S player
use dice player
it plays everything with hardware acceleration just like your galaxy S it also includes DTS audio codec so you dont have to convert popular H.264(MKV) with DTS audio
Only thing I really miss on the i9000 is the tv out. I still have my sgs but I find the nexus s to be smoother in general.
What about the lack of led flash in sgs? Doesnt it bother you?

that's something i didn't know. i guess samsung is messing up everything, always 7 or 8 variants from same device. Here SGS can tune TV, but no flash!
I had a SGS then got a Nexus S because of the horride lag issues. But did kinda miss all the enhancements samsung made, 720p, video codecs, hardware acclerated browser etc.
Now I've moved on again and gone back to the Galaxy S range with the Galaxy S2, now this phone is a beast. Slim, light, amazing screen, and fast as hell with it's dual core processor. You can play 4 flash youtube videos at the same time in the browser without missing a single frame, probably can handle more but not tried. Even play 1080p flash youtube videos!

I bought the N1 and its on it way, I was really happy and that was my final choice, until today I was checking out the Euro Version of the Galaxy S and it has 1900 mhz 3g which is used in my Area! I could have bought that and had a bigger/better screen, Better Processor, Better Camera, and Design (subjective).
I do like the N1 dont get me wrong but that Super Amoled Screen is mouth watering lol

Unless you bought it on eBay etc, you could just return it.
Also, Galaxy S = no camera flash (absurd), Android 2.1 (2.2 in 4+ months), and a crappy skin on it.
Yea I bought on eBay, Im sure its not a Big Deal, the N1 is a fantastic phone, I love it, but I just think the Galaxy S looks really nice! Haven't used one though.

I have used both, and while the Galaxy is a very nice phone, I can honestly say theres no way I would trade my Nexus One for a Galaxy S.
i wouldnt worry as much as you are. the nexus has a lot of advantages that the galaxy S does not. google updates, colored trackball, unlock bootloader, camera flash, superb build quality and materials and feel in comparison to the lightweight plasticky galaxy s, etc.
Thanks guys! Im sure the GS Is very nice but the N1 does indeed own!
ive actually been considering a galaxy s also and luckily my friend picked up one with his new contract a few days ago. after playing it with, i can tell you both are nice phones and you cant go wrong either way.
ive had my n1 for several months now so i have experienced many of the bugs the n1 has such as in rare cases, the n1 will send a text message to the wrong person (thought i did something wrong the one time it happened to but apparently its a bug; i text a lot too). i agree with the other poster in the feel of the n1 is better than all the other phones i have held and is only beaten by the new iphone.
my friend has the samsung vibrant, and for some reason, it doesnt have flash so if taking night pictures is a big deal for you, the n1 wins. however, i felt the the vibrant took better day pictures. the vibrant also has a night mode that is better than the other phones i have had, but is no replacement for flash. the same applies to video recording, vibrant wins during the day in both video and sound recording, and n1 wins in recording in dark places.
if gaming is a big deal for you, the galaxy s is the winner. i was playing psx4droid on the vibrant and although i didnt notice any speed improvements over the n1, i can tell you the vibrant supports at least a 3 finger multitouch, over the n1's 2.
one of the biggest flaws i felt the n1 had is the speaker. i am constantly missing calls and the quality is pretty bad, but somehow samsung managed to put in a worse speaker, or at least i thought so
Yeah, I don't think the Galaxy S is superior, more like on the same class.
Galaxy S has a better screen (larger, brighter) and more internal storage but no led notification, most likely no updates past 2.2, no camera flash. CPU is about equivalent. N1 seems better built. I just got my N1 two weeks ago and was also considering the Galaxy S but stock Android was what sold me on the N1.
It doesn't matter if the Galaxy S is better or not, a better phone will come along and surpass both phones. If you're not happy with the Nexus One now, you're not gonna be happy when every new big phone comes out.

Yup, but in six months when N1 is rocking android 3.0 and GS still has 2.1/2.2 you'd be much happier with a N1.

The N1 might be out shined in a few of those areas, but like others have mentioned, it will be the first to get Gingerbread. The Galaxy S probably never will. Samsung is going to expect you to purchase a new phone for 3.0 instead.

Ya but shortly after that, something else will come out running 3.0 that's better than the N1, its a continual cycle. I'm just happy that the N1 is an awesome phone in itself, another phone may be better but it shouldn't take anything away from what I can do with mine.

You are right, and I agree. My point is, in six months he might not be ready to get a new phone yet (like I know will be my case), and in that case it is better to have a N1 over the GS. That was my reasoning choosing the N1. Of course, there might be unofficial 3.0 roms available for both phones, so maybe it will be a non issue at all for the OP.
I agree. N1 has its own unique speciality. Galaxy S is better in may way (because it came out later) but Nexus One can be modified easily and there are a lot of developers for it so that u can customize it to ur liking
Everything on the nexus is awesome .. it's just the touch screen.. multitouch doesn't work well on games and emulators.. but other than that it's an awesome receiving all the love

I actually got my Nexus one recently and I'm fortunate that living in England pretty much all android devices are available.
I went there knowing the Galaxy S for instance can easily outperform the Nexus in most areas, especially in graphical terms.
I had a play with the Galaxy and two things struck me between that and the Nexus, I felt the Galaxy is too big and not easily pocketable and the 2nd was it just didn't feel like a precision bit of kit like the Nexus.
The Nexus just feels like it's in the top class when it comes to design and the Galaxy less so.
For me it's a no brainer, proper camera, beautiful device and it doesn't get all of the custom stuff over the top.
traitor
I am contemplating selling my nexus one and getting a galaxy s. I would be sad to lose the trackball wake and led flashlight that my fine rooted nexus brings, but I am tired of struggling to use my phone in the sunlight, and would be happy to have a more responsive screen and better GPU.
I had the Galaxy and it doesn't even compare to the quality of the Nexus one. The Nexus One is the best built device still today. The quality build is 2nd to none and the looks are just killer. I think the 3.7 inch screen is the best size for a phone. Go Nexus One. The only thing better may be the Nexus Two.

Keep tellin' yourself that if it makes you feel better.
A friend has the tmo version. It is very nice. Smooth video recording with audio that is significantly better. No flash? As if the n1 camera and flash is anything to crow about. Lol. Photos don't have purple blobs in the middle on the vibrant.
But it was the video he got out of it that impressed me the most.
The n1 does feel better built.

Hi all,
As I just said its been released in Spain and I was wandering if I should get it over the desire hd its in same price range so money ain't a problem but people seem to have major issues with the galaxy .
4" screen is more than enough for me but I saw the samoled in action and is amazing the camera I hear its good too, so what should I do?
I have a really hard time recommending the Galaxy S. I could really use a working gps and a cached map navigation. The lag is really frustrating as well but as you can see with the xda app it's still usable and games run smoothly. So to answer your question: it depends what you plan to do with the phone.
Also don't forget that the desires already have 2.2 and don't put your hopes up that samsung fixes current issues.

To OP: No phone is perfect.
If you don't want to flash or root your phone, you would have to wait until 2.2 comes to fix the majority of the various bugs / improvements needed. Samsung is apparently working on it 24/7, hopefully we'll get a release by the end of October.
Compared to the Desire HD, the immediate difference is the screen quality.
Cached maps navigation sure seems like heaven especially with compas integration, im directionally challenged so it could help me a lot, the 2.2 out of the box and first probable phone to get 3.0 is definetly a plus...
I really like the screen and video format integration it always pissed me off that i have to convert videos to watch on my phone. and I use my phone to listen to music how is the SGS in that regard?
What is youre experience with the phone (i know sammy isnt the best manefacturer but whats the problem beside the gps?)

Nope, I've had a Hero and the sound quality is much better. The original earphones that come with the SGS are bull****, from this comes the bad sound quality. If you have or buy good earphones the sound quality is great.

Interesting... the earbuds that came with mine are actually pretty good. Not as good as my £40 Sennheiser earbuds, but very close! Good bass response, uncoloured midrange. The trebble is a little harsh sometimes at max volume but that's to be expected.
Makes me wonder if perhaps mine weren't manufactured by Samsung.
If you don't care flashing, then the Galaxy S is ok.
I think the Desire HD will be better out of the box though.
I don't mind flashing...if its a resonable amount.
I can buy either just have a hard time deciding which one.

You should try them out!
The HD is quite heavy compared to the Galaxy (I held it briefly) but feels much more robust. That being said, I have the Galaxy S since August and nothing has happened to it yet.
I have used the normal desire (non HD) and it seems to be much snappier than the galaxy s. That of course doesn't mean that the HD will be as snappy. The Sense GUI seems to be better than touchwiz.
With JM6 and the voodoo lagfix, the Galaxy is doing ok. I am really happy with it.
If I were you I would wait a little bit to see what's going to happen with Froyo and hear first real impressions about the HD.
wasnt froyo realeased for the SGS? at least unofficialy?

this is the best phone available on the market right now!
if you can wait, then wait for better stuff comming out on 2011
if you need a new phone now get the Galaxy S
strong, good for protection out of the box, see the videos on the wiki
great reception
GPS works good contrary to what you have read here in the forum, it just depends on the firmware
the Camera is amazing, Video recording as well
Audio is the finest quality on both the 3.5 and via Bluetooth 3.0
if you have a car with BT stereo support, you'll love it!
the LAGs that you read about is not real, it all comes down to maintaining your phone with the autorun killers and task managers to optimize the phone.
WiFi N is very fast, i get up to 87 Mbps on it, not as fast as PC but fast enough to transfer large files, without using the USB
SAMOLED screen is amazing.
Well don't mind installing the lagfixes and if I keep waiting for a better phone il never have one T-T but I do want a tegra2

DesireHD delayed in spain should i just get the sgs?
Hey,
I'm from the Netherlands, and bought my Galaxy S 2 weeks ago. I knew full well that the Desire HD was coming, but chose for the Galaxy S anyway...
I couldn't be happier with my choice, this is why:
-The Galaxy S screen is superior. No match, S-Amoled rocks.
-Xvid support is lovely.
-There already is a lot of documentation and a big user base for the Galaxy S (and stuff like Galaxy S specific apps), which gives you a community to fall back on.
-The Galaxy S has a pretty good battery (1500 mAh), in contrary to the DesireHD (1200 mAh).
-The Galaxy S is available NOW (there's always something on the horizon).
-Bluetooth 3.0
-The best processor in smartphone world.
-A LOT more memory; up to 48gb (16 internal and 32 microsd).
-It is light.
-There's a front facing camera for video calls and such.
In all honesty, the Desire HD has some pros too:
-The screen, although it sucks in comparison, is pretty big.
-The build quality seems to be pretty good.
-HTC support, probably until android 3.0.
-It has more RAM.
-8MP camera with flash.
-Maybe device design and HTC Sense, depends on taste. I like the Galaxy S and Touchwiz just fine, personally.
To me, the Galaxy S was better on paper and I am very satisfied with the experience it is giving me up to now.
It does need some tweaks, but the good news is all of those tweaks are available due to the huge user base (>1 mil!). It has lag, use a lagfix. It doesn't properly manage RAM, use AutoKiller Memory. Etc.
Fact is that, if the DesireHD runs into these issues, you won't have a fix ready right away simply because the user base will need to grow and the device hasn't been tested by over a million people for half a year. With the Galaxy S, you know what you will be getting, and you know it's awesome.
So, there you go; get the Galaxy S.
Greets,
MM
Really? Awesome havent noticed the front camera xD
Well the main pull the desireHd has over me is that htc phones are better supported (xda etc..) And kinda like the new sense(The site, cached map nav are really awesome )I dont like the battery, i dont care how much more optimised the proccesor is at 1200mAh with its huge screen its gonna die quickly.
4 inch screen is plenty of space.
everybody says the camera is awesome
Hey is the bootloder unlocked can we flash costom roms yet? Dont think i saw any...
GUYS I am really desperate I want to buy a new phone on Monday and I am totally lost as to what I should get. I finally figured out two phones I would like to get. Either the DHD or the SGS. They both have there ups and downs, and its really really really hard to pick one lol... u cant imagine how hard it is. Could you perhaps give me some advice as to what I should buy please? I would really appreciate it !!!!
If you search the forum you'll see there is already a thread for this.
I want my own
Do you mean sgh i9000 I can't find a phone called sgs i9000
I mean Samsung galaxy s i9000 aka SGS
I think you should definitely go for the DHD.. more ups than downs better quality (metal) SGS is plastic and simply looks like a old Iphone... blah bla... HTC rocks!
period!
Yep but it's full of bugs and badly made (battery and sim cover) upside however is HTC release fixes quicker and android upgrades quicker than most.
Problems at present are the laggyness, sim and battery cover issues, crashes on market, not so good camera, reboots occasdionally

Galaxy S for form factor, display Super Amoled best ever seen, because 10 millions people have it now and more and more will have later and will have the best support ever (XDA rulez, and if you see now there are some ROM which make it incredible fast and no lagg or crash, even better than Nexus One)
Than you can wait for Nexus Two
You will spend less to have the best in market now.
Why cant people just look in the freaking forum or use the search bar, theres already a thread about this..
Don't have all those problems no lagging no occasionally reboots.. crashes on market are true but not anymore now I can download and install all apps want fluently..
The sim cover is indeed a little bit of poor quality but I use a silicone case which compensate it.
truly, the design of the sim cover is good as it allows quick access to your SD and sim without having to remove the battery.
And about the battery... if you use your phone correct then there is no need to remove the battery.
Camera is perfect for stills in all conditions (yes also in the dark, due the dual-LED flash) Recording mode is good in good conditions but in the dark you can record while the dual-LED flash light is still on.. the quality isn't that perfect but it is good for me...

11 Nov Gingerbread release or the Nexus S release? But if it was the nexus S release then why would they bother making 2 events 3 days apart wouldn't it be more logical to announce everything on one day?
I had to make this choice a couple of weeks ago and went for the HD, not regretting it at all.
I'm not noticing any of the 'downsides' mentioned here (slowdowns, reboots etc).
True the battery and sim covers are fiddly and spoil the initial unboxing experience as you need to open them both to get your device working, but once you've got them back on (which there's a knack to) you need never touch them again and the rest of the phones build quality is excellent, the SGS felt very plastic to me when I tried it out.
Put it this way, my Steve Jobs worshiping flatmate said it's as good as his iPhone 4 which is a BIG admission from him... almost had a tear in his eye as he said it
I sold my SGS for DHD
I sold my SGS and got the DHD.
Now I wonder It wasnt really necessary. Screen on Galaxy S is really awesome.
DHD's screen is good. very crisp text but not as good as Super Amoled.
Speakers on Galaxy S is nice on the other hand speakars are just pure pathetic on DHD. I cant hear a while playing youtube videos. You have to uses the headphone.
I think problem with the camera on DHD is software issue. Needs upgrading. To be honest 5 MP SGS takes better picture than DHD in a well lit environment.
To make things clear. Issues with DHD.
1. Awful speakers
2.Bad camera software (hope its not hardware)
3. Battery and sim lid could have been better but ok for me.
4. Flash videos are laggy. ( Was better on SGS after the last Froyo update)
Now things to consider to get DHD-
1.Living on the fast lane (lol 1600+ score on quadrant)
2. big screen (black level not as good as SGS)
3. Feels solid than SGS. Good build except as mentioned above.
3. HTC sense.com experience. ( really good)
4.More frequent update than Samsung.
So cant think of anything for the time being
Also had to make this choice.
I simply held both phones in either hand, the DHD felt like it was worth something, the SGS felt like it was worth £140 + £10 top up on PAYG.
The SGS is a brilliant phone, but its light, plastic and feels cheaply made - it doesn't have that premium feel you want your nice new expensive phone to have
And the DHD screens a monster, all my iPhone 4 friends love playing Angry Birds on the mammoth screen.
I guess it's settled then... Unless Samsung comes out with the Nexus S in the near future I will be getting the DHD. Thank you guys for helping me !!!
Just get an iphone 4 best phone ever desire hd and galaxy s are terrible ;D

Hey guys!I'm planning on getting the Samsung Galaxy S soon. But now I'm actually stuck between this and the Samsung Galaxy S.I'm aware that the processor aka the 'Hummingbird 1Ghz processor' on the SGS is faster than the Snapdragon processor on the Nexus One.I'm not really going for the looks but I've realised that the SGS has a lagging problem and I believe that rooting and using the one click lag fix can fix that but I'm not planning to root my phone and I'm going for the SGS mostly because of the large internal memory that can keep lots of apps and the bigger and clearer screen! While the Nexus one only has 190mb available and I believe the Nexus one has some hardware problems like dust under the screen and something wrong with the touch screen. So please help me with this! And lastly,I may also choose Nexus One because its gonna receive all the updates in the earliest time and that's a big advantage! So,please help me with this!
My wife has a bone stock vibrant. It has very little issues with lagging, at least not more than a non-modified nexus one. If it were a lag fest, she would've asked me to get her something else. There are areas the nexus doesn't lag that vibrant does, but many more areas the vibrant runs through that the nexus stutters.
Stock for stock; vibrant. The nexus does get more overall support, but you've already said that's not what you're in to. Heck, even mod to mod I'd keep my vibrant. Lag free and fast.

You could get the Nexus S and get the best of both worlds. It's a Galaxy S (upgraded) with 2.3 Android right now. And since it's another Google phone like the Nexus One it will get OTA updates faster then other phones.
Its actually the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 I'm taking aboutAnd the place I'm buying from,Nexus S isn't available yet.So I'm now only stuck with those 2 choices!
I've played around with a friend's Galaxy S ... to me it's terrible. I can't get over the BACK button being where it is, or the slowness due to it being packed with Samsung and BELL junk, or just the fact that it's plastic... terrible terrible phone.
So its just the placement of buttons or did your friend really mention that its a bad phone?
The funny thing is, is that I actually own a Vibrant and hardware wise I have to say it's an amazing phone. It's definitely better in hardware than an N1. What I love about the N1 if definitely software support and that it has a camera flash/flash light. It depends on if your going for hardware vs software or if you really need an LED flash. As far as lag goes, I used to experience lag till I upgraded to the new unofficial Froyo build released yesterday (12.20.10) by T-Mobile/Samsung. The phone is very fast/responsive now. Maybe not faster than an N1 out of the box, but you can modify it to be just as fast if not faster. My phone is unrooted running 2.2 JK5. Although I might trade this guy in about an hour who has an N1. The only reason/reasons I want to trade is because I love having flash on my phone and all the Dev support from google and the N1 community, although this is my first time ever being in the N1 forums. I hope if I do decide to switch today or tomorrow that I am welcomed by you guys.

If your phone is ' un-rooted', how are you running a custom rom? (2.2 jk5 is a custom rom, I'm guessing). I know I had to root my Evo in order to flash roms. (as opposed to 'unroot', which is how it comes out of the box).
I would suggest nexus 1, even just based solely on hardware and build quality. Samsung phones have this terrible cheap plasticy build/feel. HTC phones have a much better feel and build quality, in my opinion. Also, it sure sucks to have a camera and not be able to use it if it's the least bit dark.
Just my .02¢

I definitely value your opinion. The Vibrant was able to upgrade to the unofficial build because its similar to an ota, but you just have to manually push it to the phone. You can check out the Vibrant forums for further explanation. If anyone is wondering, guess who has an N1? Lol. I traded the Vibrant just now and I must say I'm impressed. It does feel solid since its actually made out of metals in opposed to the Vibrant's plastic body. Only thing I miss so far is the Super Amoled display and lightness (weighs less of course since its mostly plastic) of the Vibrant.

unless you're heavy into games and multimedia it really won't make a difference. with the nexus 1 you get that fast google support. And it's a great phone.
If you are into games and videos hands down vibrant. Especially now newer graphics intensive games are coming out.
I own a vibrant with nero 3 voodoo on it. it's ridiculously fast and gps woes are a thing of the past. The support is there, just not directly from sammy. So there u go.
i LOVE my galaxy S and would never trade it...go for it
My friend have bought a brand new HTC evo 3D, powered with qualcomm 8660 1.2 ghz dual core processor. Phone look great, but , trust me, i dont want to change my i9000 for that phone (and probably any HTC). Screen on i9000 look much better(with smaller res 800x480 vs 540x960) , amoled is amoled , multimedia experince is much better on i9000. We tried to play regulary .mkv 720p shakira spot on both phones. Suprisingly htc evo 3d can't play mkv with stock player. Ok, both of us are downloaded bsplayer lite, and mx player from the market, and on the both players htc evo 3d (with hw accel enabled has stuttering problems), but with all players (including stock) on galaxy s video is smothly. Sound in any way is much better on samsung, and video record 720p stutter on evo 3d (fps is unstable) when light condition change, but with samsung this problems do not exist (video is perfectly smooth in any light condition) .Games and Browser on both phones work great, and i cant find big difference. And another thing, evo 3d has 1gb ram (808 mb actually), but he is full of bloaware, and rarely free ram is more than 150mb). this is enough reasons for me to stay this year happy with my sammy, and dont care about ICS, most phones will not get stable ICS before Q3 2012.
Hi 2 all.
wonderful!!!
What rom is your SGS running on? Great to see you so happy!
Galaxy s ftw :d:d
I love my Bell Galaxy S... does everything I want it to and works great.
Rom THS ICS v16
I will use this sucker until my contract runs out in a year/half or until I break it.
Power vr sgx540 ftw !!!
I must agree in some points. But Galaxy S is not a perfect phone. If we had to stick to stock roms then its a really average phone compering to other phones. Display is very nice and sharp, and thats what I like with my Samsung. Other things are more at average ( call quality, browser, camera, lag)
I had a Sony Experia Arc and it was bit better even on a stock rom.
But apart form all the bad and good things is that, you can buy Galaxy S for 150-180Euro ( used ). This can't be beaten, for that price its a best phone on the market right now. Plus you can have ICS on it and there is a big support community.
You may disagree with me. Its my personal opinion.
I have bought this phone after winmobile resistive device, so I have in plans to be with my galaxy s at least when something really different will come again)) For example - something with webtop possibility - like motorola atrix.
I am planning to keep this phone until 2014 It's a great larger sized smartphone.
I will wait for SGS2 port of ICS
Yeah the phone is great, i don't plan to change it soon, there are so many mods/kernel/roms to not get bored.
yeah sgs is still one of the best phones=D lots of roms etc. processor is still enough fast for almost anything

What do u mean by better, smaller 800*480 vs 960*540 resolution? Lols....higher the better.
I have mine almost 2 years now and it still rocks! Thx to the great community here. Thx guys!

Its a classic ... hall of fame for cell phones. I'm keeping mine. It might be worth something one day. Wishful thinking lol. Waiting to get the galaxy s 3 tho....

I came from a Blackberry Curve 8520 (ugh...) to my first Android experience with the SGS, and I couldn't have been happier.
Everything I've ever wanted to do with my phone has worked perfectly, it's definitely fast even today, and when I was finally starting to get (veeery slightly) tired of it 2-3 weeks ago, I found so many ICS builds (I was on GB until then) that only made it better!
It's one hell of a phone, and nowadays you can get it so cheap that I'd still recommend it to people who want an Android phone but don't need the latest, most expensive one with the most cores/RAM.

So you're comparing your phone to your friend's, which still has bloatware and probably a stock ROM.
I love the SGS, but seriously, don't boost it like it can destroy the HTC Evo 3D until your friend actually installs a performance custom ROM on his new phone.

yes, i say how it look in reality, not paper specification. Everyone know that on paper evo 3d is much better, and yes, i also have stock jvq rom non rooted. Screen on evo 3d (without 3D mode) is nothing special, much better look on our galaxy, and multimedia on evo is poor. I did not say that our phone is best, i know that sgs2 is much better in any way, i just compared this phone with top HTC phone at the moment
Well regardless it's a nice spirit booster... I was just in between the price drop when SGS2 came out... So i i bought the SGS full price but i'm very impressed with it. Running ICS 4.2 and semaphore 9.1.
I was seriously considering upgrading to an SGS2 and compared two different ones to mine as i wanted the benefits of the S2 plus the better screen. But from what I saw although screen resolution was higher on s2 certainly it wasn't as bright and colours didn't Pop like on the galaxy s. Highest brightness setting on s2 also lower than S.
I wanted to buy a new phone a few months ago, untill I discovered custom roms....Now my sgs is as fast as a SGSII wit stock firmware...
I'm going to stick with this untill the SGSIII comes. And if that is not what I hope of it, I will stick with even SGS longer.
As said above, it's an average phone on stock, but with custom roms it's amazing. Only real negative part is the terrible camera and the lack of flash on it.
