Screen protector accidently came off - Legend General

Hi all
I bought my legend with a screen protector pre-installed on it and used it like that only for last one year. The other day my screen protector accidentally came off and I m so glad that it came off.
Just noticed that the screen is simply gorgeous without that layer. I was cribbing about legend's display all this while but now realize the problem was that protector.
Just giving a heads up to people that if you are using a screen protector, check out ur legend without it, you will not go back, trust me on that.
I think my display is easily comparable to iphone 4 now. just hope I don't scratch it.
Cheers

It's a glass screen, I hope it's smooth and nice!

As said above, it's glass (mineral)... I've had the Legend (now my GF's) for more than a year, so it sustained a scratch or two, but the screen is untouched and daisy fresh as when I unboxed it...It's really cool technology

It also depends of type and quality of screen protector if one is used.

I am not going back to a screen protector...for protection using a capdase rubber case, hope it's enough
Just out of curiosity, aren't all smartphone screens glass these days ?

Yeah most are at least. The X10 mini i know for sure use plastic, but that's old now. The Legend uses Gorilla Glass, it's extremely durable but be cautious of sand. It is harder than glass, and can make scratches. Metal most likely won't, because it's softer.

I've stabbed my Legend with a ball-point pen before I sent it off for a replacement and it didn't sustain any scratches x) I'm not saying you should try it, but the Gorilla Glass simply is gorgeous

I dont have a protector. I dont think it needs one with that glass. There was a video of someone shooting a BB gun at the screen and it didnt make a scratch.
Leave it off!

No you dont need it... Try with some metal, nails whatever... Glass is harder than steal so it canot be scratched... (with some normal use afcourse).
Have only had it for about a week, but haven't had a screen protector on it. It's been in and out of my purse and work bag ... not a single scratch.

Played with a Tab at BB yesterday and it had a big scratch near the front camera. So it can definitely scratch.
Better safe than sorry!
A small particle of sand will leave a decent scratch. I always protect the screen, if not a scratch is bound to show up some day.
I like to touch directly to the glass.
So I leave the screen protector..
I use a screen protector, not to protect the screen but to eliminate the fingerprints problem

my first tab before it broke had a scratch on the screen within a week (god knows how)
so the new one had a screen protector put on it straight away, they are scratch resistant not proof, same as the galaxy S and my S also has scratches on it.
its better than normal plastic/glass but they do scratch fairly easy!
no need for one. If you drop it on the floor it might crack, but it will do that if you have a screen protector too.
i dont have screen protector on mine, no scratch..yet.

I got a screen protector from ebay, extreme screen or something, exacatly the same feel of the zagg, but a lot cheaper, is nice an clear works great.
I have a screen protector on mine just in case lol. But from what I've been told we shouldn't need one... I'm half tempted to remove it. Screen looks so much nicer without it, unless that's just my screen protector that makes it look kinda dull and darker.

lol yeah zagg cost me like 45 bucks

Get rid of your screen protector, now !

So, I have been using a screen protector since I bought my S2 for a few days. Yesterday when I was drunk, I realized there are some scratches on it, so I decided to peel if off, thinking having another protector later. And to my surprise, my screen became freaking shiny and colorful and beautiful like a stone turning into a diamond. Now Im feeling like a retard, because that lame protector (in fact it's an expensive one), I suffered from an ugly change of screen color of my S2. I am sure I will never get another screen protector, this screen is too beautiful and it deserves to be seen.

Screen protector is a stupid idea anyway. Anything that can scratch a gorilla glass will easily go through a flimsy screen "protector" and scratch the glass anyway.
Im using a Zagg Invisible shield, purely through habit as I've had one on all my phones and comparing it to my GFs S2 (with no screen protector at all) there is absolutely no difference, but to each his own

That depends what screen protector you're using. The matte and the cheap screen protectors are not shiny and look dull, but if you get a good quality screen protector, you won't even notice the difference. Everyone SHOULD have a good quality screen protector because it protects the phone from scratches.

This kinda right.
I used a costly PS and still notice a little difference in the vividness of color and obviously the touch response is much more different, i mean more prominent. Using it without a PS for a month now and no, I am not applying a PS again.
My scr protector was an expensive one, it doesnt change the touch sensitivity but for God's sake the color is aweful...

Nope, it's pure logic. You can't scratch gorilla glass. You can only scratch the oleophobic cover on top. If your phones comes across something so strong that even gorilla glass will be scratched, a flimsy screen protector won't be any help.
Ive had a screen protector and all the phones ive owned, and yes you see a difference in the display but i can live with that! and what plank said if you scratch a screen protector it'll go through lol if thats the case then i wouldnt use a screen protector in the 1st place my phone is always in and out of my pocket and most the times its my keys or coins that scratch but underneath my protector the screen has NOTa single mark/scratch and ive gone through loads of protectors since i had my GS2..
Conclusion: i would highly recommend a screen protector ! ChEAp and keeps the gorilla glass free of any scratches!
The end!
Bye
I don't use a screen protector, but can see 2 scenarios where my screen can be scratched.
1. The beach with sand... Solution is to get a waterproof case/bag and have some fun too
2. letting my gf or any woman with diamond earrings to talk on the phone... Solution don't let then use my phone!!
Other than that, I even demoed to my friends the key scratch test on my screen frequently. Someone asked what would I do if a drop of super glue lands on my phone... My answer... Use a razor edge and scratch it off!

Flawed logic. Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. To scratch it, you need to use something harder than the glass. Metal is softer, so your keys are not going to do harm to the glass, it might scratch the coating only. However, sand is just as hard as glass if not harder. That will scratch through the coating and the glass in one go. Unfortunately, sand is everywhere.
If you want the screen to look good then don't use a matte screen :O

Rather have the piece of mind knowing that with a screen protector, even if it doesn't protect it that much.. it still gives some protection. Same goes for cases why have use some cases when "some" add very little protection and mostly for looks.
The fist thing to do when i get a friend's phone in my hands is to peal off the protector and pretend it was by mistake

Actually no. Gorilla glass isn't completely unbreakable or invincible to scratches, just harder to. You will get some hairline scratches but with a screen protector you won't

Screen scratches

Has anyone noticed the screen can be scratched relatively easily? I have somehow managed to drop my phone on to the floor once and now the screen has a hairline scratch across the centre. So I'm annoyed. The old note seemed more durable.

It's not a durability thing as much as it's pure luck. No two drops are identical so all those drop tests and stuff are pure crap. Besides, you actually dropped the phone so you can't blame anyone but yourself.

All my phones since the Nokia N8 haven't had a single scratch on them. That's why I don't buy screen protectors, they look ugly, they feel different than glass and I just don't like them. I gifted my little brother that N8, then gifted my girlfriend my ex SGSII and she then sold it without scratches, now she owns a SGSIII without scratches. My Note 1 was with me for 5 months and when I sold it had zero scratches.
Now my Galaxy Note 2 has about 2 weeks of use and it already has 2 little tiny scratches on the screen. It doesn't bother me as you can't see them on normal use and just when you look at the glass from one particular angle, but the scratches are there. Very very small, very very light, but is there. I took the same care as with any of my previous phones so my guess is that Samsung used the properties of Gorilla Glass 2 to make the phone thinner and not stronger, and now it scratches more easily. Since those 2 little scratches my Note2 is always on my case now and hasn't developed any extra scratches. But like I said, neither of my previous phones had any scratch at all, the Nokia N8 and SGSII were amazing since I used them a lot and them my brother or my GF kept using them quite a lot and not a single scratch. The Note 1 was with me for just 4-5 months. The Note 2 screen is definitely a bit more prone to scratches.
TL; DR:
The Note 2 screen is more prone to scratches from my POV. Older phones that I had I sold without scratches after more than a year of use. Note 2 is 2-3 weeks old and with 2 almost non noticeable -but existent- scratches.
Gorilla glass two is more harder than gorilla glass 1 and hence more susceptible to dust scratches. No doubt itbwill give u more protection from nails, keys and other metallic stuff but gorilla glasses are not resistant to Scratches caused by dust and G2 is more prone to it. So keep it safe from dust and i would say that its better to get a screen protector than regretting.

This could not be more wrong. GG2 has the same characteristics as GG1 but is 20% thinner. That's supposed to be the innovation here.
It's just a matter of luck. No matter how you try to spin it. If your screen comes in contact with something harder than it is such as sand (not regular dust) then it will get scratched.
http://m.corninggorillaglass.com/smartphone/#_InnovatingWithGorilla
Sand in particular is the weakness of gorilla glass. A single grain of sand floating around in your pocket will cause mayhem with the glass. In fact sand will scratch the glass more than keys or coins will.

Will this TPU case protect my Nexus from drops and minor scratches?

It's a generic S-line TPU case I got off of eBay for $1.50. I've had a great track record with these on my other phones. But I was just wondering, since the N4 has more glass, will this protect my Nexus from every day falls? I figured that it would protect the front from cracking seeing as to how it has a slight (I'd say 1-2mm) raised lip.
Should I pony up the extra cash for a bumper or will this do its job just fine?
Also, the stock screen protector is starting to tick me off. Should I just peel it off and rock a naked N4 (plus the TPU case, of course)? Despite being made of Gorilla Glass 2, I've heard way too many horror stories of the phone getting scratched or cracking.
I hate the stock protector take it off haha, its really thin anyways, you'll be fine for a while until you get a new protector. And for the case, yeah I'd say it'd help with drops, not like an otterbox, but many bumps and will prevent scratches wherever the phone is covered or facing down while sitting. Don't expect it to save your phone screen cracking wise from those heart dropping drops though lol, just be careful!

Oh my goodness. The screen looks and feels SO MUCH better without the screen protector. I'm thinking of just going naked just because of the glossy finish and feel. Is it worth slapping on a screen protector just in case?
I have the LG bumper, but I still have a screen protector on the front and back. From reading other threads the back scratches real easy. I also have a TPU case like yours that I haven't used yet. The bumper is more stylish than the case.

I've never used one, I just like the feel of a naked screen. And if you're careful, there is absolutely no need for a screen protector. Even if you aren't careful, its not like the second it hits something you'll have deep scratches. Its probably a pretty tough screen.

However, I would like to ask something:

I don't use a screen protector on mine, although I sat it on the ground once at an outdoor basketball court to record my game. It flopped on its face and I got a very very small chip on the screen. I still prefer a naked screen over having a screen protector.
I don't have scratches. I used it for a month with no screen protector with no scratches at all, then decided it was time for a protector just in case. I also have an el'cheapo protector on the back to keep it nice and shiny and new.
My first N4, I had from November to April. I didn't have a screen protector on it, only had the bumper from February to April. No scratches on it. I RMA'd it and got a new one in May. I got a few light scratches on it a few days ago. I'm not using the bumper or a screen protector on this one. Maybe I should've. It looks nicer without anything on it, but you might get scratches. I don't know how they got there. It might've been when someone else was using my phone. I take good care of all my phones. If you go naked, eventually you'll get some light scratches.
The rolled edge of the glass was designed to be a pleasure to use as you swipe the screen. If you use a screen protector, you ruin that experience.
I've been using my phone without a case or screen protector on the front since I got the phone some months ago. Even from multiple trips to the ocean and being around sand, my screen is flawless. The glass is extremely scratch resistant.
I keep a screen protector on the back because that **** is not Gorilla Glass and it scratches easy.
Also, the oleophobic coating on my screen is completely gone now but oh well. I'm not obsessive compulsive about fingerprints.
I have a few very small ones and a huge horizontal one that goes almost to midway of the screen but they're not noticeable when screen is on. I knew they would eventually come so I don't really care anymore
