[Q] what roms are good for Mytouch 4g? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys...i am currently running the Virtuous Fusion sense 3.0 rom on my 4g along with faux123's new kernel and I must say its amazing!!!Sadly I do get bored quickly and want to know what other cool roms are out their to try?Ive tried miui, desire, sense, and leaked stock roms but suprisingly have not tried the Cyanogen mod 7(i know but its too stock for me lol)..any ideas of roms im missing out on besides CM7 haha?

Just go to the development section and flash to your heart's content. Make sure to perform a Nandroid backup first so you can always revert in case anything goes awry (which it will). Welcome! I love evil D's fusion ROM, I've been using it for some time now!

yeah it is great..and HTC said they thought because of hardware reasons no HTC phone released prior to the sense 3.0 release would get the new sense...it seems to work very well on my Mytouch haha....

I used Warm Z TwoPointTwo, Glacier Gingerbread and while both of them are good, Virtuous Fusion MT4G is my daily driver

Orange sense to me is the best sense Rom for MT4G. everything works and never has an issue with a app. Plus It can use all the desire mods.

If you're looking for an AOSP rom you should try out RoyalGinger. It is absolutely amazing. Blows CM7 out of the water! I have hit 40+ hours on a single charge. And ckisgen (RG's Dev) just got Netflix working 100%! I've been using it as my daily driver for over a month now and couldn't be happier!

check out RoyalLiquid, different from any other ROM

Amazing battery life, lightning fast, no issues on my end.

the first time i got the MT4G, i spent 3 days flashing and testing different ROMs and for me Royal Ginger hits the spot.. I'm not a fan of Sense UI, so, If you want close to AOSP that blows, Royal Ginger is what I recommend..

I am a fan of TheDerekJay's port of Miui. It takes some getting used to and isnt for everyone, but allows the easiest customization without a launcher app that ive used. I get very long battery life because I am not running a bunch of second party apps, it has a completely different feel than any other ROM, and it has themes too. Check that ROM out

I would highly suggest Cyanogenmod 7. It has heavy development and is always getting better. I have NO problems at all on the latest update and, in my opinion, it is the fastest ROM you can get on your device. After all, RoyalGinger is based on cm7.

If you want to try something weird for the MT4G, Google Gingerblur. The dev no longer deals with this site but he definitely likes to try strange combinations in his roms.

ROM Bible
The Rom Bible has been updated, It should have most of the Roms dev for the MT4G listed there.
If you see anything that is missing let me know

I love Royal Glacier, and I'm also liking Orange Glacier 2.0 (Based on the leaked MySense Gingerbread). ADW EX on top of Sense (especially MySense) is the best Android experience IMHO.

Which ROM?

Hi all,
Brief Intro:
My name is Mordy, I go by MordyT online (used to be active at ppcgeeks), long time PPC user (got my first device in 03, running winmo), been through almost every device HTC has made since then, last one being a TP2. Never left a device locked if at all possible, always running custom ROMS, a few times cooking them myself.
Then, last year, the EvO came out. Made the switch from the TP2 to the EvO and I was happy. After 7 years of fighting WM, I didn't have to cook a custom ROM, I didn't have to reset, etc. I rooted, flashed a few ROMS, but in the end always came back to stock ROM with mods. Wasn't too bad, not bloated, I kinda like sense, and I could always use a different launcher, etc.
Few days ago the account holder made the decision to go to TMo. Close person to them is a rep, so they got commission, Account Holder got a good deal, you know how it goes.
I said, sure, since my EvO pulls a whooping 87 kbps in Milwaukee WI area, doesn't TMo have hspda+ here? Picked up a MT4G, rooted it about 5 minutes ago using this this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996, ran a speed test and got 26 mbps down (SS attached), very nice.
But boy did TMo f up the stock ROM. So much crap in it. So I said, no problem, where is CM6? Uh, no CM6...
What I want is a stock Froyo Experience. No, not GB, Froyo. Ok, I would roll with GB if it was stable, but CM7 is not declared stable yet. So, that brings me to the question in the title...
Which STABLE ROM has as close to stock Froyo or GB? Thanks!
there is a CM6 for our devices it is at the top of page 2 in the Development section... here is the link if you like Sense but don't like the TMO Espresso UI overlay (personally I don't like it either but have come to love real/pure Sense) there are a couple of very nice ports of the Desire HD and the Desire Z. both of them are very nice pure Sense ports only "real difference is the D-HD doesn't have Landscape rotation for home screen and the D-Z does. Both of eVil D's Desire ports are very clean and smooth running, but if you're looking for one with a few themes to choose from Gr8Gorilla's GorrillaSens DHD is also very smooth running. all 3 of the Sense ports are very stable, I can't comment on CM6/7 because I haven't ran them... with as quick and strong as this device is I look at it this way I paid for a powerful device that was running Sense if I wanted AOSP I would have gotten the G2

I saw that thread, but there is no download link that leads to a ROM...
I was looking into the DesireZ and HD port, and pure sense is ok, but I really want to leave it behind.... would you recommend one over the other? What major bugs are there in the ports if any?
Thanks for your reply btw.
There's a CM 6 rom on TeamDouche's mirror
Here the link
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=glacier
CM6 is pretty dead at this point though, no real development is done on it as far as I can tell. CM7 on the other hand is actively worked on and is better performing/looking in my opinion.
Sorry, I can't be of any help with Sense roms, never ran any. I did venture into Iced Glacier land and it was very good compared to stock in terms of bloatware but I still couldn't deal with HTC's crap.
Good luck and congrats on getting MT4G, you won't regret it.

having ran eVil D's Desire-HD and Desire-Z ports and the Gr8Gorilla's Desire-HD, personally I prefer the D-HD ports. they are both great I personally didn't run into any major issues with either one. eVil D's does use a newer build base than Gorilla's, so for me it's really comes down to when I want just straight Sense without any theme's I use eVil's when I wanna run a theme the guys here have done I run Gorilla's. If you want pure Sense without any of the TMO Espresso BS then you can't go wrong with either of these ports

Good choice. I've been running it now for quite a while...it's excellent.
Well, flashed it, it runs very nice, thanks all for your help.
P.S. Any recommended kernels? Battery life would be the only reason to switch. (and yes, I could underclock, I know...)
the OC kernel that eVil D put in the ROM is very nice and stable (I believe it goes up to 1497MHz) also the kernel that Faux123 has been working on is very nice (goes up to 1.84GHz)
I know Faux's has the Smartass governor in it, off the top of my head I can't remember if eVil D's does or not. also Faux's newest version has the latest updates/upgrades from HTC for "Updated GPIO drivers, Updated LED Driver, Updated Wifi Driver, Updated Touch Screen Driver, Updated Sound Driver and Updated DMA engine" he pulled them from the Kernel for the EVO Shift 4G
edit: I have been running his version 0.6 all day and it's been like silk and the battery seems to be holding well (but I also run Juice defender which helps some)

Sorry it took me so long to to get back to you.
The rom doesn't come come with the kernal, it has to be flashed separately, right?
As for smartass, it needs setcpu, right?

No, evilD HD, comes with OC kernel, just faux123 kernel has all the latest patch and updates.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
like epsix said, eVild D's ROM does come with the kernel "pre-installed", if I remember correctly eVil D's is preset to "on demand". I know faux's is preset to "smartass". but yes to change governor you need SetCPU or it's equivalent. you can get SetCPU free from the dev here on xda, this what I originally did but ended up getting the paid version from the market (no difference in the app just wanted to support the dev for future updates). yes there are other "free" cpu tuners in the market but the UI is much cleaner on SetCPU and I like the different colour themes.
Thanks guys!
1 last question ( I know, I should should just nandroid and flash it) but what is the major differances between evil HF and Iced Glacier?
evil's is a true sense rom...iced glacier is a espresso sense (what came on phone)
I-G is basically just the stock ROM with most of the demo-ware pulled out and the ROM smoothed out/cleaned up.
The Desire HD ports are true Sense without any of the TMO overlay at all and it has (not just in the ROM but downloadable from HTC) several more widgets and themes/skins that TMO pull out to put on the Espresso overlay, that and all the nice skins they have made for the Desire HD will work (like the theme I am running right now is a very nice blend of Gingerbread and Honeycomb). over all the layout of the ROM just seems more user friendly and clean (I really like the "personalize" soft-key right there on the home-screen)
Gotcha. I defiantly don't want the iced rom, whole reason I flashed to HD was to get away from the messed up sense TMo thought was in...
Thanks for all!
I also enjoy the personalize found on the HD ROM, like the Metal Skin. I somehow manage to download a skin that is already on the device and now I have two of them. Any ideas as to delete it?

Best Non-CM Gingerbread ROM?

As the title states looking for opinions on what non-CM Gingerbread ROMs are working best for other users. This also excludes ROMs based on CM. As much as Im not a Sense fan, Im at the point where I dont care if it is Sense or not. Im thinking of switching from CM7 mainly cause the GPS issue has finally gotten to me (ive tried all fixes and have GPS working but its so crappy compared to stock). Enough of that, time to move on. Welcome to opinions on some Gingerbread roms.
well i find the meXdroidMod meXperia remeX really awesome, though its cm nightly based, i think a good non cm would be the ginger-sense by gingervillian
I never was a Sense fan until I came across Virtuous. Best ROM for the G2 in my opinion. I'm always trying other ROMs just to keep up with what's out there, but I keep coming back to Virtuous as my daily driver. Everything just works with it, including GPS.
MIUI hands down. I love how fast and smooth it is, especially with pershoot's latest kernel.
miui for sure...
was gonna suggest ultimate droid. but its cm7 based. sooo.. miui. best rom IMHO

Ultimatedroid definitely kicks ass. I really want to try the miui, but there are like five different ones in rom manager and two or three on the forum, no idea which is most up to date, supported the most, or used by the most people. Is miui supposed to be iphone clone?
Edit: UD is based off cyanogen also but actually feels like a rom all its own and not a CM ripoff.

Some issues with ultimatedroid(for g2) are thus follows:
~Gps is still borked.
~After you select one alternate theme no other one will install, same goes for boot animation though in the case of boot animations once you have selected an alternate you cannot change it.
~Font changes do not work.
~Applications like to uninstall themselves.
UD "seems" snappy but it is entirely due to sped up render effects. I pulled just as fast & faster quadrant scores running CM6.1.1 with pershoots latest kernel.
Speed is in the eye of the beholder people. So far virtually ever rom I've tried that is based on CM7 code has some sort of "gotta pray to machine gods" type element to get GPS going. Virtuous is laggy even with overclocking past 1ghz and if you don't dig SenseUI you're up a creek. The only major rom I have yet to try is MIUI but I really don't dig iphone style integration so I guess I'm just going to be stuck on CM6.1.1 till the official Gingerbread release for the g2 comes out.

I think the gps varies partly on hardware also, because I have never had any of the aforementioned problems on UD (given I never tried to change the font), and gps worked fine. As in accuracy three meters and under and no drifting. Gps works for me on all these roms that people say it is broke on when the OP states the technically it is working correctly. Coming from a vibrant before I have seen how wildly gps hardware quality can vary with a given model, I do believe people when they say it doesn't work for them but there are also people who never expierience these problems.

atm i am trying to get over my app drawer hate so i can try some more roms out there, sense seems to work best with the phone seen as it has been made for the keybaord or so i have have found anyway.
is there any luncher/mod out there that will remove an app form the drawer when its on a homepage?

I was using GingerVillain for months because my GPS wouldn't run on my old radio with CM7. Once i upgraded my radio I used CM7. GingerVillain was great considering it was would before CM7 but did have some issues with randomly restarting.
I don't believe the xboarders rom is CM based. It's just straight up, no bs, stock gingerbread.

Which ROM should I try that would suit my needs?

Lately, I've been having quite a few issues with CM7. I've been flashing nightlies every day for a few months now and there is always some issue it seems. Besides instability, I'm a bit bored of CM. I'd like to try something new, something reliable, lightweight, and stable. I love being able to tweak every aspect of my phone though. Any suggestions?
I have tried (I have mt4G and G2) iced glacier, royal ginger, miui, cm6, cm7, and nightlies.
Personally, miui & cm7 are the best.
My girlfriend ran cm7 forever. She loves to tweak her phone but somehow had rotten luck, and glitched her phone on cm a lot.
I installed miui. She hated it right away, as did I, but later it grew on her. I did a nandroid backup and she asked for cm7 back. Now she says she likes miui better, and a bit later goes well I like them both.
My point. Dude try em all
Miui is pretty slick for customizing. I personally like my cm7 with the minimal theme and icons. It looks almost like dos. Green text on black for terminal. 2screens. Everything in folders. It owns. Anyhow. Done rambling
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Keep in mind I've only had this for a single day, but I'm really liking meXdriod. It's like a flashy, better looking cm7. After I turned the screen animations off it seems faster than cm7 as well, and everything works just fine, wifi calling is my biggest requirement and it worked right away. I don't know how much weight you can give it, but with mexdroid set to 1.1 OC I got a 2200 on quadrant.

Yeah, pretty much. Flashing a new ROM only takes about 5 minutes (after its downloaded). May as well try a bunch, and see what you like best. Everyone has different needs and tastes. Maybe you don't have time to try them ALL, but at least start with a few recommendations, and try them out.
HTC Clay SuperCM7
Apart from CM7.1.0, my favorite rom for my G2 is HTC Clay's SuperCM7 2.4. Here's a link to where you can get the 2.3 version. I had to root around on the internet to find the slightly updated 2.4, he never released it or updated it in ClockworkMod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076691
It runs fast and smooth and battery life if great. It's mostly just a themed/tweaked CM7, but it seems to have fewer issues. the only thing i really missed was access the FM Radio, but you may not use that at all.
I would suggest cm7 based roms. my favorite is the ice and fire with ice cream sandwich love. miui is nice but not my cup of tea... And beatmod bliss sense and desire hd 1.3 are my favorite sense 3.0/3.5 roms. but its your choice on whatever you like.
Ten words.
I'm using Virtuous 2.0.0. I have to admit that I like sense somehow. If you want a stable, smooth sense UI with an awesome cpu clock daemon, try this.

Why not use a CM7 stable release then? 7.1 just came out recently. You can't flash nightlies then complain about bugs and instability
Other than CM7 my go-to ROM when I want a change is tun4f1sh' bulletproof MIUI.

Which rom should you stick with? the one you liked most.
I can't believe people are still making threads about this topic.
That's a bit harsh, some people don't want to experiment so much as just find something that works for them. Also, some of these rom's need a little time for a new person to learn about them before you can decide on it, so it's nice if people give objective opinions on the different types so a new person can at least get an idea of where to start. I've tried one of each of the main types (Sense, CM, and Miui) and didn't like any of the sense-types at all. I didn't like MIUI at first either but realized I could put GoLauncher on it and have it work like I want it to. On my phone at least it seems like MIUI runs faster than any of the others I've tried, at least it gives me higher scores on any of the benchmarks I've run using the same cpu setting.

A Good Rom for Evo?

i hope this the correct forum for this if not Im sorry. I have an epic but my wife has an Evo and i have put a rom on it for her. Now she is complaining about cyanogenmod 7 that I put on her phone and she keeps running into small problems Im not that familiar w/ the evo roms so I need some guidance with them. I need something very stable and very easy to use, it doesn't matter what android as long as it is stable.
thanks in advance

MIUI
My mom's phone is an Evo 4G and I put MIUI on it. It has an iOS-like interface and it is VERY easy to use.

It's also the buggiest ROM I've ever run. Try Evo Classic by TommyTomatoe. Super stable and super easy to use.

Honestly, Evo4gLI, the last time I checked, I haven't run into any problems using MIUI. Green_Arrow says in his guide that MIUI "has the longest battery life and is very customizable." I would readily second that, and though MIUI doesn't have WiMAX as of yet, I don't use 4G at ALL.
Check our the guide in my signature. For ultimate stability, I would suggest MikG or tommytomatoe's The Classic if you want Sense.
MIUI is my favorite AOSP ROM. It is incredibly stable if you actually wipe everything right

Sounds like you should have left the phone at stock settings ;o Go with one of the stock mods like Classic or Swagged Out Stock. Can't get more stable than that.
Maybe get her an ice cream sandwich mod for ease of use when those become stable.

I am new to rooting but have found Fresh and Nocturnal's Shooter (Sense 3.0) roms pretty good. No issues so far and has been around 3 weeks of steady usage. I have the Evo 4g. Just make sure to back up so if anything goes wrong you are covered. I also like to test out the phone pretty good after installing anything. rooted or otherwise. could be buggy software causing the issues. waiting for cyan9 in jan.
Also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334484 has an excellent guide on rooting the evo. I was put off by other guides but you can't get more cut and dry than that one. Thoughtful and detailed in case you missed anything.

Can't say I've ever ran MIUI, but from all of the roms I've ran, I've never had
stability issues with any Sense based rom and have so far had the best battery
life with MikG's 2.59 with the Freedom kernel.
sitting at 22:30 hrs up, 6:50hrs awake with 54% battery life remaining.
Took a screen shot even to show my brother to tick him off, his photon dies
over the course of a work day.
I'd agree though, MikG and Tommytomatoes roms are great,
I love a lot of the 3.5 roms as well, but the stability and performance aren't
where I'd like them to be yet. Never got the feel for CM/AOSP based roms,
though they all run well for me, and I never did like the Apple style UI, which
everyone seems to compare MIUI to. Probably why that's one of the only roms
I haven't installed on my evo.

Favorite ROMS

I don't know about u guys but mine is sense 2.1/3.0 cuz it has a mix of things and its smooth ! (Mikg) wats urs?

I have to say, I've grown to enjoy what Sense 3.5 has to offer. I fully intend the remainder of my phones on contract life to be spent with either Nils Business GingerSense 3.5 or (my currently installed rom) Warm TwoPointThree. I missed out on Warm TwoPointTwo and all it's heyday so I'm fully enjoying my first ever run with the Warm series.
Side note, I think my next android phone will spend its life on AOSP either because:
A) it's a Nexus device
B) I rooted/installed an AOSP rom
My current favs are Stock+/Inc-Deck GB/OMGB
I never have had a good experience with sense 3.0+ roms, too slow and I dont want to overclock although some of the roms are built really well. AOSP is really nice on our old hardware and always runs clean.

I'm on Inc-Deck-GB myself, I guess that probably answers the question.
with special props to SkyRaider 4.+... that was the best sense ROM. I would still use it if it had ever got updated to Gingerbread.
I've never tried MikG, Downloading and flashing tonight ^.^ hows the battery life? What kernel do you use etc? My personal fav has always been CM7
Cm7 loyalist no doubt. It gives the best performance, support, and customization of any rom. When I get a new phone, ill be shopping on the base of roms, and cm7 support is a must.

same here, love CM7. With heavy customization from android kitchen and other apps I'm loving my phone and don't have any urge to try other ROMs (maybe a bad thing?)
Sense always gave my phone a little more bloat, no matter how small it was, I'm still all for faster and leaner so that's why I've been stuck to CM7.
Just loaded up MikG and its booted, but its at the mikmikmik wallpaper, and no unlock screen, i can see the battery, time 3g and signal bar though..

Same happened to me on that rom a few times. I got it booted on my first flash but after that, none.
If you want a fun rom to play around with I suggest anyone of the super stock AOSP roms i.e. OMGB/Bugless Beast. What better way to customize than to start with the bare bones.
MIUI with my WP7 customizations runs like a boss. I underclock to 245/128 when I listen to music only and it runs as maybe a 700 MHz Sense rom would, while getting maybe days of battery.
I'm using Stock Plus with a bunch of themes I blended together. My favorite ROM of all time was WarmZ though. What I would give to have it in Gingerbread form... its what's in my sig actually.

ended up with MIUI
My first flash in the rooting game was McTwist. I enjoyed it but wanted to try something else. I switched to Nils Business GingerSense with sense 3.0 and loved his design and the smoothness. Something happened where after a few weeks my phone became unstable tho. Could have been my kernel or my phone or even the charger I was using since apps crashed when plugged in. I then decided to get away from sense roms and tried MIUI 1.12.9. It's smooth and doesn't seem to have that sense bloat. I flashed the latest incredikernel and have been loving the ROM since. It has custom themes which is great for me. I also find myself using the stock dialer,SMS, and camera instead of searching for an after market app. The only thing I didn't like was the homescreens and the launcher so I just use launcherpro and everything looks good.
So as a recap:
McTwist was good
Nils Business GingerSense was great but caused phone problems for me
Sticking with MIUI for now

I can see how the lag puts people off from Sense 3.5. I haven't run into the issue cuz I use ADW Ex (proudly purchased for .10 cents awhile back) and I just go about my business.

I believe it. Probably my personal favorite moment to be a member of XDA was when we first had the GingerSense leak last May. Development just shot through the roof for Sense 2.1+ roms. Sense 2.1 is the sweet spot.
