So freezing things just makes them inactive meaning they take up no ram?
First please use search, or look around:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13143535&postcount=1
Second you can restore everything back by reflashing system.img withouth losing data.
Yea they disappear of your app draw and goes inactive basically

Freezing the app is definitely the way to go, at least to begin with. However, while this will stop the app from loading & using up RAM this wont recover internal storage from your phone, so if youve used the phone for a week or so after freezing with no issues then you might want to delete the frozen apps.
But: If you *do* decide to delete an app make a backup of it first (this will copy it to sd card so it wont take up phone storage) in case you do decide you need it back at a later date.

Hi all, encouraged by all the positive comments about JPK I decided to go on and install it.
All went well, rooted without trouble then went back to the stock kernel. I restored all the apps and system data with Titanium Backup and suddenly the process com.android.systemui (the top taskbar) crashed. I rebooted the phone but the error stayed.
I tried reflashing but this time I installed the apps from scratch and used Titanium to restore the apps data, after that the system responded very stable until an hour ago when the com.android.systemui error and crash appeared again.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any fixes?
I was on JPY before, I guess I'll try JS8 or go back to JPY
Thanks

never restore system data unless whatever ur running is the same thing you were running when you did the backup.
I absolutely agree with you. That's why I flashed again with no system data restore. But the process crashed once more.
Thanks for your input Runedrune
Any other thoughts?

Yes, everything but the (obviously) external sd card.
The only thing I didn't do was repartition. Do you think that could fix it?

Try repartition. I did with 512 pit and no problems installed this way on 6 phones.
Good luck.

Best thing for contacts is to sync with Google. As soon as you sign in to market after wiping and flashing things all contacts are restored. Clean and simple and always on hand if you lose your phone.

It explains everything related to the backup with TB and why you're experiencing this error.
It happened to me exactly the same..its because you used Titanium and restored system data.

I've had the same issues with TB, i used it in the beginning. But now i just keep a list of have-to-have apps and i sync my calendar & contacts with google.
I'm also running on 2.3.3, it runs much faster and smoother than 2.2, some lags but a lot less then stock 2.2.

Ok, I'll give it Google sync a try and backup my data using other means. Does anyone know how long does it take to make a full backup via Google?
And will this include wifi and apn settings?
Thanks again

As far as i know, but i could be wrong, you can only sync calendar & contacts via Google. So settings of your phone won't be backed up.
Success!! Thank you all for your suggestions. Gingerbread works smoothly now. Working through the first battery depleting cycles now, time will tell.
Sadly my car home app from samsung for the vibrant car dock doesn't work anymore. It does trigger car mode but it won't play the music through the dock's line out nor keep the screen on. Anyone else experienced this?
Maybe wait for a Gingerbread supported version of the app?
Thanks once more

Im having a serious problem. Anytime I try to add to or create a new contact, it force closes. I can't in any way edit any contact. The process is com.motorola.contacts. I am on stock 2.3 rooted only. I had previously frozen all the social and yahoo authenticators and since had no adverse affects, went ahead and uninstalled them all. However this was about a week ago, but this problem with contacts began this past weekend. Im at a loss. I need to get this working again. Im very uncomfortable with unlocking my bootloader to reflash as I don't understand the terminology you pros use and afraid to ask for fear of being called stupid (again) by some pros. Any help? And please if you feel the need to make me feel like a complete moron, please bite your tongue. Thank you.

what all did you delete???? that could very well be your problem. i know on my galaxy tab 7 i deleted the email app and my cam force closed every time and would not work, put the app back and all was fixed.
Yes, probably your contacts get fc 'cause you deleted the yahoo authentication, and I think the contacts (if some of your contacts have a yahoo account) use this authentication, so if the contact app doesn't find the authentication app this fc.
And probably if you deleted others sys apps linked with the contact app, you'll still having fc.
So, what apps did you delete?
Anyway you can try install the app(s) again with rootexplorer

I suggest to freeze apps and don't uninstall them (unless you are 100% certain it's safe to delete).
I had the same problem as you, but in my case I just had frozen the authentication apps, which after I un-froze them, Contacts worked again.
Maybe a ROM reflash is what you need?

You can try this 2 ways:
1. With root explorer go to: system/app then look for the apps you deleted, tap and reinstall them.
2. Any way can't reinstall the apps, you may try a factory reset: setting/privacy/factory data reset (using this way all your data will be erased)

I'm not a developer, but if all other ideas here from the more knowledgeable users fail, check my posts on this site. I changed roms recently and installed the app manually as it wasn't in the new rom.
If all else fails, you could root the phone and do it that way.
Not the easiest fix though, so I wouldn't do it that way unless you have to.

Try to go into settings, applications, all-find genius and select it, then force stop/clear data, maybe reboot and see if that fixes it, otherwise if it is that big a deal, do a factory (hard) reset
Genius Button stopped unexpectedly
This started today with my phone as well, pops up instantaneously and continuously. Not a big deal unless you actually wish to use your phone. I'm slowly trying to get to Settings (close pop-up, push something quickly if possible, close pop-up, etc.). Anyone else who has corrected this problem or heard from the company would be greatly appreciated. This is my only phone so it is a very serious issue.

If it happens again and she can't fix it, she may need to do a factory reset in settings. If she is worried about losing her sms messages, there are several backup apps that don't require root. Factory reset is kind of the last resort, but sometimes it is the only thing that will fix software problems on a stock phone.

Hello everyone
My girlfriend has sent her S4 up for repair because apparently it wouldn't power up anymore, (I Couldn't help and try to fix it due distance and no one really in her family knows how to fix things such as...) so after going to a store they sent it up for repair. She got the SD out of it.
I was wondering how they do it at Samsung, she had the SD card in all the time while using it daily, and had Google+ logged in.
But there are no photo's on her Google+ and she doesn't know about her SD yet.
So the big question is : Will she lose her data, and 5000(+) photo's?!
Kindest regards.

I do not mean to talk bad about her but she isn't the best with Technology, so if it isn't standard turned on then sadly I don't think so, no.

My moneys on they wipe the phone. If stuff on the phone is important she should back up her stuff to dropbox or mega.
Its the same scenario shes in as if she lost the phone.
When it doesn't boot anymore they replace the whole sdcard most of the time.
If it's an external sd card they won't touch it, if you're talking about the internal then it's most likely wiped
