Hi my friend that owns an HTC my Touch on T-mobile has a problem that her phone today began saying "Genius Button has stopped unexpectedly". no matter if hitting the "force close" button or 'send/tell HTC" does nothing but the pop up to come up again. she is not tech savy and does not have her phone rooted at all. sorry if this has been discussed before, i do not own the phone. but she is scared because she really doesnt know what is going on with her phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
here is a picture of it.

I'm not a developer, but if all other ideas here from the more knowledgeable users fail, check my posts on this site. I changed roms recently and installed the app manually as it wasn't in the new rom.
If all else fails, you could root the phone and do it that way.
Not the easiest fix though, so I wouldn't do it that way unless you have to.

Try to go into settings, applications, all-find genius and select it, then force stop/clear data, maybe reboot and see if that fixes it, otherwise if it is that big a deal, do a factory (hard) reset
Genius Button stopped unexpectedly
This started today with my phone as well, pops up instantaneously and continuously. Not a big deal unless you actually wish to use your phone. I'm slowly trying to get to Settings (close pop-up, push something quickly if possible, close pop-up, etc.). Anyone else who has corrected this problem or heard from the company would be greatly appreciated. This is my only phone so it is a very serious issue.

If it happens again and she can't fix it, she may need to do a factory reset in settings. If she is worried about losing her sms messages, there are several backup apps that don't require root. Factory reset is kind of the last resort, but sometimes it is the only thing that will fix software problems on a stock phone.

Yes umm I think go backup is a free one that doesn't require root. But yeah back up her photos on a computer if you can and SMS then factory wipe it.

Photos are stored on the sd card on this device. No backup is necessary unless you're planning on formatting the SD card.

It varies from device to device. I know the Thunderbolt and Evo 4G both save pictures on internal memory. I thought I'd tell you to save some time.

I owned the vibrant maybe for a month or less, ever since then I made a lot of errors, I had freezes that made me delete all personal data, once or twice I had to reisntall google apps. The one thing I hate is when uninstalling stuff data stays there. As of now I cant open google maps because it will force close, I haven't tryed deleting it and reinstalling it, anther problem is my connection, I have full bars but.i dont get edge or 3g, I have walked the streets and the problem stays there so I want to restore it completely, where should I start?

I would say after that many problems and errors I would have to admit defeat and reuben the phone under warranty and see what t mobile or samsung would do to resolve the issues...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Not sure what you've been doing to your phone to have all those issues, but why not do a factory reset to the phone, and start from scratch?
Lol yeah actually probably a better option than returning the phone, at least to start.

At least he gets a sandwich out of the deal.
Some very interesting typos since getting the illustious swype keyboard.
When my 3G says it's working and no map data arrives, my GPS just sits there and my screen lags after all fixes, I fumble when someone calls as I don't know which widget to use...I just smile to myself and thank God I don't have leprosy. Just be grateful you have a phone that makes calls LOL...sorry for sarcasm.
Lol thats what I mean by a complete restore,.i know I need to use odin but "where to start" btw thanks

Well, I got a new Samsung epic (again, lol) and when I got home, I tried signing in to my google account. However, it won't sign in.
It'll say that I don't have any service or something like that.
I've tried turning on wifi, rebooting the phone, and everything else but this works. Anyone have a solution?
Thanks, in advance.

Alright, I don't see why not.
Not like anything is on there yet
I'll edit this post when I'm done.
Edit: Alright, just did it and it works! I was hoping it was an easy fix, thanks!
So yesterday I accidentally dropped my phone in milk. I picked got my phone out of it almost immediately, and dried it off. I didn't really think much of it, because everything was still working properly. Today, I tried to use my camera, but when I hit the camera button, the camera app FC'd. I reopened it and I got an error saying "Can't connect to camera". I thought maybe something happened in the ROM, so I restored a backup from about 2 weeks ago, and I got the same message.
Currently, I've got the phone in rice, just in case. Is it possible that the milk is what is causing this? If so, is there any chance that I can fix the camera without sending it in? (I don't have insurance)
The only thing that's keeping me from thinking that the milk is what's causing this, is the fact that everything else is working normally on the phone. I've called people, texted, games, everything is working fine, but the camera.
I'm running Zips most recent build, and my backup was IceColdSandwich. In a few hours when I take my phone out, I'll try a GB rom, but for now, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Yea, MOST of the time, but NOT always, you can go into the phones settings, then into Applications, select the 'All' tab, and find the Camera on the list. Clear the cache, also clear data...that usually works. If not, maybe fix permissions? I always try those methods. But I don't care for ICS so I don't know if its the same as 3.5.....but try that.

Have you tried flashing just a camera? You can go into the Apps and theme section and there is a thread with a few camera packs that you flash in recovery?

Haha so am I. Thanks for the help though, I appreciate it.
Ya it definitely sounds like you nuked a critical component of the camera. Definitely lucky it didn't fry any of the other parts. If you've tried doing a factory reset and completely wiping your disks, don't think there's anything else you can do other than sending it in or attempting to fix it yourself which would require quite a bit of skill and probably some soldering expertise.
I'm using the same rom as you and the same thing happened to me at one point. I managed to fix it though by clearing camera cache, disabling and re-enabling it, and then clearing the dalvik cache and fixing permissions just for kicks. One or all of those things fixed it for me. Try that maybe?

Alright. I'll try it haha. I've been given new hope because the flashlight is working now, so I'm hoping the camera might start working again.
One question though, what do you mean by disabling it and re-enabling it?
When you go to clear the app cache you'll see a button next to the force stop option that says disable. From my understanding its basically like turning off the drivers for the camera. When you re-enable it (same button btw) you reactivate the drivers and it will communicate with the camera again hopefully.
If I'm wrong about any of that someone can correct me. But it still worked to fix my problem anyways

If you do plan on doing that make sure to search the general threads. I saw a really good video there once with someone walking through how to properly disassemble this phone.

Alright, I'll try to find that. The website that I'm ordering the camera from apparently sends step by step instructions.
I guess that's one thing I enjoy about iPhones. They come apart and can be repaired very easily haha
Hope?
Okay, so I randomly tried opening the camera again today, and to my surprise, the app didn't force close or give me the message saying it couldn't connect. Nothing was appearing though, so I didn't think much of it. Then I remembered in Zips build you had to turn force preview on, so I did. Nothing happened, but I tried to take a picture, and the screen turned green with a weird little brownish area in the middle.
I'll upload a picture of it later if anyone wants and thinks maybe they can help me figure it out a little more.
The fact that it's working all of the sudden makes me think it might just randomly go back to normal. However, it might not.
But the fact that the camera is actually turning on now, that means that if anythings broken, its the camera itself, right? Not the hardware around it?
Hmm, upload a picture. My camera started taking those glitchy looking photos before it died on me. If you hadn't mentioned the green and brown detail I would have forgotten.
I'm not saying I can give any more suggestions than I already did but if you're getting the same problem I had then maybe you can categorize this back in the realm of software issues. Better than a hardware failure at least...

Here it is.
But I tried to change the megapixels of the camera, and it "died" again. So I have no idea what to think anymore lol

So, the MyTouch 4G has shown several camera issues; from a black screen to FCing when opening the app. It seemed to be like an update issue to the newest GB but even stock phones that hadn't been updated were also having issues. If anyone has anymore info on this subject please reply here or PM me. I am very interested in this issue as I have a coworker witht the same problem. It has also been shown to reoccur after people think they have "fixed" it with a factory reset or such.
Long time follower (pre "OG Droid" days) first time question poster. I was reading about the "Create Collage" feature on the Note 3 so I went to give it a shot. The problem is, that option doesn't appear in my menu. I'm completely stock, not even Rooted.
Any thoughts on what could be happening? It just seems so strange that this is completely missing. See for yourself in the attached screen shots.
Thanks
Have you selected at least 2 pictures yet? I just tried and mine works.
Edit: haha just actually looked at your screens. Yeah that's weird. Did you freeze or delete any Samsung apps?

I don't remember uninstalling any Samsung apps and the only disabled apps are Verizon bloat and the Kindle app. It feels like it's just missing somehow. I'm hoping to factory reset as a last resort.

I do! Now I'm even more at a loss as to why it won't show up for me. I have now tried force stopping and toggling the app off and back on. Still not showing up in the gallery.
i had to go to manage apps --> force stop collage --> turn off then back on then it showed on my phone. weird having to do all that but it worked. hope it works for you too!

Hello everyone
My girlfriend has sent her S4 up for repair because apparently it wouldn't power up anymore, (I Couldn't help and try to fix it due distance and no one really in her family knows how to fix things such as...) so after going to a store they sent it up for repair. She got the SD out of it.
I was wondering how they do it at Samsung, she had the SD card in all the time while using it daily, and had Google+ logged in.
But there are no photo's on her Google+ and she doesn't know about her SD yet.
So the big question is : Will she lose her data, and 5000(+) photo's?!
Kindest regards.

I do not mean to talk bad about her but she isn't the best with Technology, so if it isn't standard turned on then sadly I don't think so, no.
If her photos are saved on the internal storage then yes, it would probably be gone. The service center guys will always highlight to you if data will be gone

My moneys on they wipe the phone. If stuff on the phone is important she should back up her stuff to dropbox or mega.
Its the same scenario shes in as if she lost the phone.
When it doesn't boot anymore they replace the whole sdcard most of the time.
If it's an external sd card they won't touch it, if you're talking about the internal then it's most likely wiped
