It is great news.. but it is not confirmedthat the vibrant will be getting 2.3 in mid may... that is for the UK. The date for north America is not stated there .. hopefully its soon.

you didn't see the same thread posted in the same section before yours with the same engadget link?
For all who asked about where Vibrant and the U.S stands in this, here from the link L1LK1LLERZ posted:
The Android 2.3 upgrade will start with GALAXY S in the UK and Nordic countries from mid-May, and gradually rolled out to other European markets, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, Africa and rest of the world according to the regional plan.

So yea, we're already in mid May which is supposed to be the release date for the U.K while ours should get it later say end of this month?
Good enough for me if that was indeed the case.
Yay! another reason to keep the vibrant.

What is their guarantee that they won't do the same they did with FROYO?
Just be happy we may have the slightest chance of getting Gingerbread.
Dont worry it takes like 2-3 months for tmobile to get it and strip it bare assed.

They didn't do OTA updates on the Vibrant for some reason. The Fascinate, Epic 4G, and Captivate got OTA updates to Froyo.

That is what I'm wondering. Just because Samsung is ready, doesn't mean we'll get it, right? Doesn't T-Mobile need to mess around with it for a few months too before we see it on our phones? Or is T-Mobile's part already done?

Well if you're waiting for the SGSII, give it a bit. The one that has AT&T bands just went through the FCC only yesterday (March 11th to me). There is a post about it on pocketnow.com. I'm thinking it's actually the one for Bell Canada some the model is the GT-I9100. The ones for the US should be here in a bit.

An alaskan cell phone company GCI is getting it first:
http://phandroid.com/2011/09/09/sam...00/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Sorry, Sprint, but you were a bit too slow. Alaska’s regional GCI has beaten the nationwide carrier to market as the first U.S. carrier to offer a subsidized Samsung Galaxy S II. Those citizens residing in the colder of the two non-contiguous United States have the pleasure of heading out and picking up what looks to be an unadulterated version of the Galaxy S II for a mere $99.99 on contract. The GSII operates on GCI’s “4G” HSPA+ network and features a dual-core CPU, Super AMOLED Plus display, and more. We suppose with an asterisk Sprint can still be the first carrier to release the Galaxy S II in the continental US, right?

Yessssssss! Ive been thinking about switching my Epic for the Epic touch. I just don't like that Samsung never keeps up with the updates, we as developers have to find and make custom roms for it and used "leaky" versions. How ahrd is it to release0 the newest android on the epic?!

Two problems
1 - Second link needs a 'html' and not 'htm' on it.
2 - Those are 'expected' specs, unfortunately.
I'm looking forward to genuine 'next gen' type hardware like people seem to want this to be, but this is just speculation and wishful thinking currently.
hopefully this will we an improvement over ths sgs2.. a better TW ui will be nice.. Something different will help them out..
Hopefully being as it is expected to start delivering in the second quarter that Sprint's version should have LTE and maybe we will finally see a keyboard again.
more importantly, will the sg3 have a variant with a hardware keyboard...
I think I want no keyboard this time.

Yeah, screw this 3D nonsense on a phone. If it does release in September here in the States, on Sprint, that would be about the right time where some of us would be covered by LTE. I've had an upgrade since like March of this year and have been sitting on my Epic. I don't think I'm going to jump on anything and with LTE coming out next year, I'm probably going to wait for an LTE capable phone, and make sure LTE is around the Chicago area before I do anything.
With Epic moving to MTD, I expect that in itself to extend the life of the phone to about what I would want/need.
Now, if the GNex comes out in the next month or two...it's going to be mighty tough to hold out considering I already get WiMax around this area, and that's not going away until 2015...

You do know that the details are also on Samsung's website as well right?
THought we get a ics update a month later? The china leak is fine until samsung release the notes ics. Hopefully a better leak will get released.
Wasnt the leaks for sgs2 used to patch up cm9 alpha build for note? I wouldnt expect stable until the notes version is released.
Until I've seen at least one more N7000 leak I doubt we're less than a month away from getting the ICS update.
I would expect to see at least 2-3 leaks for the Intl version before the real thing is released...

You will find that Samsung have since released a statement saying march 10th is not actually confirmed so this post is now nonsense unfortunately. no date has yet been set for the release.
As someone has already mentioned I see! Didn't notice that before posting.
As the title says read here. Only 6 to 8 weeks.
S3 users have to wait till january!
It is Optus so there is a chance we'll be waiting until then also. My old Incredible S' ICS update was pushed back by months.

Exactly! It must be at least a month prior to carrier update because carriers have to customize ROM with their wallpaper, bootanimation (at least) etc. And since we have new leak, I am afraid we will get nothing new (camera, etc) since there is not enough time... Let's just hope I'm wrong
I would stick Clear of any Optus Firmware it's over bloated with very nasty apps – that install before first boot. Horrendously ugly custom app icons. In fact Optus 4.3 vs. Official Stock 4.3 is using over 330MB of RAM usage out the box.
