I'd love to know the answer to this as well.
Thanks!
Some Options for you
There are many alternatives:
1- SlideMe (application can be downloaded to ur device)
http://slideme.org/
2- Opera Market (accessed thru the opera browser home page)
3- Amazon AppStore (application can be downloaded to ur device)
www.amazon.com/appstore
4- GetJar: http://www.getjar.com/
5- Handandgo: http://www.handango.com/
These are for me the best alternatives for official market. But there are many others. Check the link below from wikipedia citing a list of application stores for various operating systems.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_digital_distribution_platforms_for_mobile_devices
Hope this helps.
I can suggest another: moborobo market.
Hope it helps

OK.. allow me to express my frustrations of this enourmously integral app on any android powered phone.
1. I am unable to do predictive search on it
2. It always use strict search queries and does not show matching spellings on the apps or even similar apps that we may like.
3. The interface is terrible
4. No straightforward way to purchase apps like the Itunes with saved credit card details.
5. No screenshot of any apps in the apps detail page.
I also use the Iphone and the app store on Iphone is MUCH MUCH better as it does everything that Android market doesnt.
What other things do you think is wrong with this app?
There is a new version of Market coming with Donut, which should resolve at least some of your concerns (see http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/09/some-news-from-android-market.html ).
Not sure what you mean on point 4 - buying an app is very easy IMHO, and I've only ever entered my cc details once.
Regards,
Dave
Oh - forgot to add. My biggest issue with the Market are the comments.
There are far too many duff comments against applications where either the commenter has no idea what they are talking about, has not read the instructions, or is trying to make a "clever" statement to Google (e.g. all those comments about CyanogenMod).
The comment systems needs to be cleverer so that all this trash doesn't detract from the really useful comments.

Dave
I hope they are fixing the search function.. the UI looks a little better in the video.
Easy now. I know the martket isnt as polished at the apple appstore but remember that apples appstore is a cashcow while this doesnt being in nowhere near the same revenue.
I believe Donut is available now, along with the new market app.

HAHAHA +1 for this one.
Been using the new market for 2 weeks now, it is better than the old android market, but still not 100%.
The most annoying things is the mini-gallery of "Featured" apps at the top.
When you use your finger to swipe them, your finger obscures the icons and more importantly the title of the "Focused" app, so you can't actually see what the name is.
Mind numbingly stupid.
Either the swipeable area needs to be vertically larger so you can swipe and not obscure the icon, and or the "focused" title should be moved above the gallery.. Can't believe no one ever tested it in the real world.
One more thing...
I live in Romania and i don't have access to payed apps....only for the free ones..... I would like to buy a navigation app and i can't....
That is because your region is not "Market Enabled" rather than an issue with the Market application itself. If you use the marker enabler (see http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/ ) you should be able to effectively change your region to one where paid apps are available.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave.
I'll try that and let you know.
One more question though....Do i need to root my hero for the market enabler to work?
Hi,
I published my app in the Android Market today and it showed up on websites like AppBrain that pull content from the Android Market. However, I cannot find it on the Android Market. Also, how do you add keywords??
I have seen some developers are adding keywords:.....
at the end of the description, but i also read that some one got removed after doing this. So my suggestion is to add some keywords like this but just a few.
The Android Market seems to be slower than AppBrain, I don't know why but my app had the same bahaviour. You should just wait some minute more and you'll see it on the Market.
For the keywords: you'd better put all the keywords you have in mind to describe your app. It's important to spread your app together with others similar.
Don't add fake keywords and you'll be happy.
I have had A500 for couple of days. I want to get the basic android softwares on it. Later I will root it but first I want to try the normal softwares and tools. I am looking for instructions how to install the basic android applications on it
- android market
- google maps
- gmail
When I got my A500 I noticed there is no google maps, no gmail no android market app. Browser and normal email application is available and several other applications.
Here is the version information of the device. Languages on the device are english, simplified chinese and traditional chinese.
Android version
3.0.1
Kernel version
2.6.36.3-00001-gda2e777
Build number
Acer_A500_1.13502_AAP_CUS4
FLEXVersion
02_AAP_CUS4
Product SKU
Wifi
Device info version
1.0
Model ID
A500
EC version
21010000
on the right up corner you can tap, to see all of the installed applications
Is there a list of applications which should be found on a brand new Acer A500?
THere should already ( maps, gmail, and market apps ) on a stock A500... !
even if you have nothing... at least there should be 1 app ( MARKET ) !!
this is another one of Acer's weird approach to standardize the same device ( 1 device, yet so many different build # )
You should try and get the data connection functional first ( home wifi )... then go into "settings--about device---system update" and push the system update button to see if there is an update available for you
FYI... in order to visit market... you need at least a gmail/google account. ( it is still strange that you don't have market icon/app pre-installed
I have checked, no gmail, only the "normal" email application. There is application called minimap, half of the menus are in chinese, other half in english.
There is some other nonstandard market application. It is gohd something. There is chinese applications on that market. Nothing usefull there.
This Acer is Asia version.
I have android phone which works here in China, android market on that phone works also. This Acer A500 looks very very limited. I guess I need to root it to make it usefull.
sorry I couldn't be more helpful...
You sure you didn't get swindled for one knock-off device ??
It's just sound weird from what you've listed of the device's contents
I puchased Iconia in china and got the same issue : no google market but a GoMarketHD !!!!!!
how can we install google market ?
To the best of my knowledge, Android Market in not available in China.
I'm sure if you had it installed and it was tied to a Chinese @gmail account or whatever, downloads would fail.
The chances are the only option would be to root and ROM the tab ***I'm just guessing*** OR you'll have to find some other way to circumvent the system checks. Your ISP might not even allow it - the Marketplace itself might not even allow incoming connections from China - I don't know.
Others might be more knowledgeable about this issue.
Good luck.
To be honest, it sounds like rooting the tablet and installing another non-Asian ROM on it would be the best solution.
well I have an HTC Desire which I purchsed in China as well and google market is working fine !
yeah I think I am going to root it ......
Look for the honeycomb version of market here on xda and sideload it. Any of the tablet forums here probably have of posted. Then just download gmail once that's installed right from the market.

Apparently the 6.x marketplace closes on 9 may.

Is there any way to keep a download of office 2010 mobile, in case I have to a hard reset?
Cheers
G.
You couldn't make a backup of the cab fine & keep it on your computer? Sorry but that would be the best advise i can give.
Since i'm normally on Android a lot more i wouldn't know what the best way would be but thats what i would do. It says the programs
will still work once installed but new ones wont be available on the market.
WM died...
I've been using WM for 8yrs & never needed the marketplace so the lack of it now is no major concern, I have all my favourite apps & best builds stored on SD & on Notebook & also on my FTP so I have my own personal appstore ...
You can do the same & most apps can be found easier & with better reviews/tips by using a good old browser & search engine.
I even save apks for android as next time you want it the build may not be free or may of changed in a way you don't like so relying on a appstore alone is never the best option.

Can share those apps ?
A friend of mine has found that on Play Store there are some apps that aren't "compatible" with the S10+. I too myself have checked and yes, it appears like it isn't compatible.
Can anyone else on other Regions check if this apps appear too like that? I am from Puerto Rico
Apps:
1. Adobe Premier Clip
2. Slice Package Tracker
In Poland (central Europe):
- APClip - same as yours
- Slice - doesn't even show up in results
Explanation

If it's any consolation, the applications install just fine if you download the APK directly (e.g., APKPure).
The best thing to do is to reach to the Developers and inquire when your device will be 'officially' supported. They hold the key.
I'll explain why this happens:
When an application is built, a unique file called a 'Manifest' is created alongside it.
The 'Manifest' lists what the application CAN and CANNOT do when used with a specific device.
When the application is searched via Google Play and the result loaded, the 'Manifest' determines whether or not the device IS or ISN'T compatible.
If the Application is, it will install.
And if it isn't, it won't.
Given the popular of Samsung as a whole, you'll likely see availability soon but given the amount of devices released every month, one can only imagine how many updates a Developer must have to prepare.
If you'd like to learn more, take a look at this:

The thing is that not each device is manually included in the manifest. New devices are released all the time and unless you exclude something specifically, apps are always made available for distribution. This happens with one of the apps my company runs as well. Whenever a new Galaxy device comes out, its always incompatible with the app and its not because of anything we have done with it.
@Blaaargh
'The thing is that not each device is manually included in the manifest.'
No one said every device is included in the manifest. In fact no devices are listed in the manifest; only declarations.
'New devices are released all the time and unless you exclude something specifically, apps are always made available for distribution. Whenever a new Galaxy device comes out, its always incompatible with the app and its not because of anything we have done with it.'
OP wanted to know why APK X and Y weren't working. I provided him with a generalized explanation of why it MAY happen. It could very well be a Samsung issue but without breaking down the APKs in question, there's no way to be certain.
