I pick up mu GT hit the screen on button nothing. I ve had it just over a week now. It was great at the start but over the last couple of days it keeps turning itself off. Is anyone else having this issue.
Thanks
Is it where it won't turn on? I thought mine was busted the day after I/O cause it wouldn't seem to turn on no matter what. Then I held the power button for like 60 seconds and it finally shut off, then was able to turn back on.
No i have to hold the power switch down for 10 secs or so to get it to turn on then it takes ages to boot. If its just mine ill be talking to vodafone about a replacement i think.

I have only just got my MDA a few weeks ago & can't understand why I have missed out on such a cool tool for so long!
That aside, I was flying out of the UK this week and when I was sitting in my seat, I remembered I had to turn my phone off. Racking my brains (only having glanced at the manual for a few seconds.....I wanted to play with my phone!) I remebered something about pressing and holding the power button.......I pushed the power button for 2 seconds.......and the screen went off/ into sleep..........I tried it again & no joy.........how do I turn the fu   ing this off?
I ended up ripping the back off and taking out the battery
Is there a must be a more sophisticated way of not causing a 'plane to crash?
Tap to the radio icon (signal strength) and tap "Turn on flight mode"
Wonderful, thank you!
This makes it 'airplane safe', but I take it there is no way it can be 'turned off' as opposed to put into sleep mode?
Sleep mode is the furthest you'll make it go.

Pushing the power button for 2 seconds will turn the backlight off, pushing it again for 2 seconds will turn backlight on again. With backlight off the device looks like it is off, not like some other devices where you have some kind of transreflective screen that can be used without backlight.
I think what happened to you (it has happened to me a couple of times) was:
1. Pressing power button 2 secs - turning off backlight.
2. Pressing power button shortly - going to sleep mode.
3. Pressing power button 2 secs - nothing happens.
4. Pressing power button shortly - going out of sleep, backlight still off.
The only way to wake the backlight up again is to find a strong light source to find out if the device is in sleep mode or with the backlight off. If it is in sleep mode you need to press the power button shortly to get out of it before you press power again for 2 secs to get the backlight back.
If only those idiots who wrote the manual hadn't got the most basic thing wrong, we wouldn't have to go through all this time and time again!

I'm sorry I asked now.........this is much more embarassing than having to rip the battery out!
Hey, don't worry about it. It's always easy when you know how. I just find it funny that they couldn't even get the on/off instructions right in the manual, and that some people insist that their way is the only way.
Imagine the hoo-hah if Ford and GM got their handbooks that wrong!

There is no such thing as a stupid question. The first time it happened to me I thought the little bugger had died on me!
Hi,
I've had this problem for awhile now, and can't seem to find out how to fix it.
My mogul works awesome, when it does.
This is what happens...
Pretend it is 1:15 and I turn my back light off by hitting the power button. At 1:30 or anytime after 1:15, I will hit my power button back on to check my phone. The screen turns on, I still see 1:15 for about 1 second, then it goes to the current time, 1:30. If I got a text message/phone call/alarm during this time my phone was "frozen" when the back light was off, I will miss it. As soon as I hit the power button, I will get the missed calls/alarms/texts/etc.
Now, what the heck?! I did a hard reset, thinking I might have messed up my phone some time, but it is doing it again.
The problem is sporadic, but it does it a lot !
It is so frustrating, please help. I explained the best I could!
Thanks!
I actually have the same problem, as well as even if i don't touch the power button, my alarm clock goes off about 60% of the time if it's plugged in. I'd hoped that when I bought this phone I could exploit the alarm function because it lets you set multiples, plus the alarm on my last phone wasn't very loud. I love my phone, but I still wonder, why the hell are there so many things that "kinda" work? It's a frikkin joke.
Hi Guys
So I've had a wizard for nearly a year now. No issues. Works fine.
Over the last few weeks, every time I turn the device on, it is unresponsive for the next 30 seconds or so. Basically, it turns on, screen lights up on the screen where I turned the device off. If the screen was an email or something like that I can still use the scroller on the right, but cannot navigate away from that screen until 30s later. None of the keys work during this semi-hung mode.
Weird hey.
Any ideas how to resolve would be much appreciated?
Thanks
ramir
hey everyone,
this is the first post on xda!(wow)
anyway, i got my fascinate at local verizon store on yesterday (9/11).
so far i love it.
I just wonder if i could turn off the screen while i am on the phone with someone.
When I was on the phone, I pushed power button to turn off the screen.
and it did go off, but in few seconds i went back on!
so i pushed the power button again to turn off the screen.
and it did turned off again but back on in few seconds.
is it impossible to keep the screen turned off for whole time?
thanks.
The screen should turn off when you put it next to your face, and turn on when you take it away, while on a call.
To check if your proximity censor is working, call your voice mail, and put your hand above where the ear piece is, and the screen will turn off, if it doesn't, then that would be a hardware fault and would require a replacement.
wow thankx frostman89
Rom: Olyfr sbf upgraded to 4.1.5.7 from 4.1.2.6 via OTA
Not rooted
I have not yet modified the power button.
'Cause I set up the fingerprint unlock,Im used to swiping my finger after press the power button.
after pending or standing by a while(maybe),It vibrates once after my unlocking through scanning fingerprint. But!!!! The screen is still black!!!
Meanwhile, touching the four buttons on the bottom,it still vibrates!
And waiting for seconds,Screen on~~~~~
Symptoms sound a lot like my Bell Vibrant before it died after the Froyo upgrade.
Have you tried resetting your phone yet?...
Okay,I have flash it to 4.157sbf,and temporarily nothing goes wrong
I have the same symptoms. Sometimes when I push the power button it takes 3-5 seconds or more for the screen to light up. I did a power off and on and it works better. Not sure what is causing this but it is annoying.
I've had this on.both my atrixes and it seems to.resolve itself as the phone gets older

I have had the same issue on mine. It occurs intermittently. Not always, but sometimes. And when the screen is turned off, I push the power button and nothing happens for about 3-5 seconds. Sometimes longer.
I do also have the fingerprint security feature on, though I am not sure if that that has something to do with it. However there is another problem with the fingerprint security.
Sometimes I want to check the time so I just turn on my screen and quickly turn it back off. But the screen turns right back on cuz it recognized my click as a fingerprint. However since it is too short to be recognized, it just turns my screen back on and says to try again. I try to turn the screen off again and the same thing. This also happens on occasions.
They need to make the power button better so that ways it does not recognize a screen turn off as a fingerprint swipe.
I have had similar problems. Rebooting has usually fixed them, at least for a while
