Freezes when back light off! Help! - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hi,
I've had this problem for awhile now, and can't seem to find out how to fix it.
My mogul works awesome, when it does.
This is what happens...
Pretend it is 1:15 and I turn my back light off by hitting the power button. At 1:30 or anytime after 1:15, I will hit my power button back on to check my phone. The screen turns on, I still see 1:15 for about 1 second, then it goes to the current time, 1:30. If I got a text message/phone call/alarm during this time my phone was "frozen" when the back light was off, I will miss it. As soon as I hit the power button, I will get the missed calls/alarms/texts/etc.
Now, what the heck?! I did a hard reset, thinking I might have messed up my phone some time, but it is doing it again.
The problem is sporadic, but it does it a lot !
It is so frustrating, please help. I explained the best I could!
Thanks!

I actually have the same problem, as well as even if i don't touch the power button, my alarm clock goes off about 60% of the time if it's plugged in. I'd hoped that when I bought this phone I could exploit the alarm function because it lets you set multiples, plus the alarm on my last phone wasn't very loud. I love my phone, but I still wonder, why the hell are there so many things that "kinda" work? It's a frikkin joke.

Embarassing........

I have only just got my MDA a few weeks ago & can't understand why I have missed out on such a cool tool for so long!
That aside, I was flying out of the UK this week and when I was sitting in my seat, I remembered I had to turn my phone off. Racking my brains (only having glanced at the manual for a few seconds.....I wanted to play with my phone!) I remebered something about pressing and holding the power button.......I pushed the power button for 2 seconds.......and the screen went off/ into sleep..........I tried it again & no joy.........how do I turn the fu   ing this off?
I ended up ripping the back off and taking out the battery
Is there a must be a more sophisticated way of not causing a 'plane to crash?
Tap to the radio icon (signal strength) and tap "Turn on flight mode"
Wonderful, thank you!
This makes it 'airplane safe', but I take it there is no way it can be 'turned off' as opposed to put into sleep mode?
Sleep mode is the furthest you'll make it go.

Pushing the power button for 2 seconds will turn the backlight off, pushing it again for 2 seconds will turn backlight on again. With backlight off the device looks like it is off, not like some other devices where you have some kind of transreflective screen that can be used without backlight.
I think what happened to you (it has happened to me a couple of times) was:
1. Pressing power button 2 secs - turning off backlight.
2. Pressing power button shortly - going to sleep mode.
3. Pressing power button 2 secs - nothing happens.
4. Pressing power button shortly - going out of sleep, backlight still off.
The only way to wake the backlight up again is to find a strong light source to find out if the device is in sleep mode or with the backlight off. If it is in sleep mode you need to press the power button shortly to get out of it before you press power again for 2 secs to get the backlight back.
If only those idiots who wrote the manual hadn't got the most basic thing wrong, we wouldn't have to go through all this time and time again!

I'm sorry I asked now.........this is much more embarassing than having to rip the battery out!
Hey, don't worry about it. It's always easy when you know how. I just find it funny that they couldn't even get the on/off instructions right in the manual, and that some people insist that their way is the only way.
Imagine the hoo-hah if Ford and GM got their handbooks that wrong!

Auto Power Off, Cingular 8125

Hi guys...
I am as techy as the rest of yew, maybe more so, but I am having a problem understanding one thing about this phone. I know it is something very simple that I am missing, but I can't find anything about it anywhere in the docs, either?
How does the "auto power off" feature work? What I mean by this is, I know we can turn the power off after two minutes or whatever, but I see that the green GSM radio light is still flashing. That's good, that's what we want because we want to be able to receive calls.
The problem I am having is that after a time (I am guessing it is the two minutes?) I can't get the screen to come back on? What am I missing here? Is it me, or is it a bad phone? Auto power off seems to make the phone unuseable until a soft reset.
I tried pushing the power button, nothing. I tried HOLDING the power button, nothing. I tried pushing the TALK button, nothing.
Is the auto power off different than pushing the power button once and putting the device to sleep? What I want is the device to go to sleep after two minutes. I want to be able to use the phone again without doing a soft reset every time.
I know this is something easy, but I can't quite figure it out?

I've been having a similar issue with my 8125. I seem to also have a problem when I turn the device off. I've been trying to pinpoint the circumstances, but haven't had any luck as of yet.
Have you made any progress with this?
hold the power bottom for 3-5 seconds , there will apper a Yes/No dia.tap yes will real shut off. Not good at eng.But is it easy to understand ?
i had a similiar issue recently on a phone i had forever, turns out that i installed GPRS connection monitor that turned the backlight off on my phone... after hitting the power button to wake it up it appeared my screen was still off, so if i turned it at the right angle i could see my today screen.. meaning the backlight was off, i had to keep it at that angle and navigate into the setting menu to turn the backlight on.. i couldnt find a fix for it so i uninstalled the GPRS monitor and havent had the problem since

Mogul stuck on black screen

Hi my mogul has been randomly dieing on me lately, i would turn it on and call someone talk and hang up, then 2 minutes later i would try to turn it back on through the power button because it hibernates or something and it just wont let me, i would have to take out the battery and put it back in, i cant even press the reset button or anything. i dont understand! thank you in advance for any replys!
oh yea, i know the phone is on because i see the lights flashing, but when i try to call it rings but thats it, it doesnt even show up as a missing call when i take out the battery and put it back in.
Try to reflash your rom. Or maybe a replacement is necessary
Idk if this is the same as what happened to you but something like that happened to my phone. The buttons would light up and the screen would just turn a light black but wouldn't show anything. If it is, I sent it to HTC and they fixed it for me for free; when I got it back it slid easier too, it had gotten a little harder to slide after I dropped it once.

screen does not shut off after timeout

so I put the dimming to be after 30 seconds, which works.
however I put it to shutdown the scree after one minutes, however it stays on forever, unless I physically press the hang up key, the screen will be on all the time.
the other question I have.
2- When I search on google, and press on one of the results in opera it takes me to the definition page, rather than the actual result that I wanted
3- is there a fix for LED notification, I installed the cab to fix that, but it didnt make a difference.
4- the pink spot at the middle, I searched around but didnt see any real solution
can anyone help please
regards
While I can't offer any help, I can feel your pain! I too am experiencing this f**ing event! I placed in my pocket before boarding for a 6 hour flight yesterday and found it still powered on when the flight had ended. I had just enough power to make and receive a call! Great.
I've double/triple checked my settings after this same thing happened to me previously! WTF!
edved.
i had the same problem what you need to do is to change the screen light setting in the settings menu

Ok. I'll try your suggestion, but please tell me what the screen light setting should be?
Thanks.
just go to the backlight settings, tap ok and it seems to be fixed..
(but offcourse check if is set to turn off after a minute or whatever your needs are)
I experienced this yesterday.. just like in normal windows, some functions just stop working with no particulair reason.. I don't really worry about it.. probably fixed in the next rom.. same sometimes happens with the screen lock, sometimes it's gone.. also after reboot, althought I find it more convient that way, it can be fixed by locking the device manually.. this does proof we can disable the device lock somewhere, I really don't need it in the case I use, the power button is enough..
good tip to always push the power button before putting the device away.. saves a lot of battery too then to wait for the minute before it powers of by itself.. the large screen is the battery's biggest consumer.. this way you also don't have to trust the automatic power off.
problem is pushing the power is not enough.
because if there were any even that woke the phone up, it will never shut down the screen unless you saw it, and do it manually

no the automatic power down is seperate from the screen lock, but for some reason they connected it with the automatic power down and left the options to choose out.

Random vibration??

The past few weeks I've been noticing that my DHD often vibrates at random times, when it should not do this at all.
It just vibrates (in stby mode), nothing else but I always think I'm getting a call or a text, which is pretty annoying.
Sometimes it vibrates just once, but also sometimes it vibrates 3 times, very fast and hard. Last night it even woke me up...
Anyone having the same issue?

Had this today when I bought it out of standby. Thought I had a text or email or something but there was nothing. Never noticed it happen when in standby though.
This happens regularly on mine too! its frustrating! you think you have a call or a message but you dont! :s
Its probably caused by your signal going from hspa (3.5g) to 3g to gprs

Isn't this called Blackberry syndrome? Imagining your phone vibrating, just so you can check it!
Seriously though, I dont have this on my DHD. It was present on my Hero though. I think its your phone getting lonely because your not using it.
If you press the volume rocker right in the middle it will vibrate 1 time and sometimes it will do 2 quick vibrates following the first one. This is probably not related to your case but it fits under the random vibration for other that might not know about it.
I noted you get a vibration when you signal goes out, and when it comes back again.
it does happen on mine too...
but i think i know the cause... its usually after using the volume buttons when it does it
but after installing CM, it doesnt do it anymore... i think its something to do with stock ROMS (mainly sense)
+1 more for that, i thought i was going mad when i first noticed it, but after reading this im feeling a bit more sane,
stock rom btw
Mine does it too. I'm using Custom Modaco Rom. When I go to unlock the phone it vibrated but not all the time. Never in my pocket though. I thought it was 3g watchdog playing up but other people getting it too so not that. It did it just now reading these posts hope it doesn't get worse.

Mine does it too. Got used to it now though.
Mine does this, but I know when it does it and why.
Usually it's either when unlocking the phone, or pressing the power button to lock it.
The reason why? It's because I have fat hands and accidentally press the volume down button when using the phone, causing it to go into vibration mode (which makes the phone vibrate once to let you know).
It's confusing, but entirely my own fault.
That's kinda diffirent from what I'm having. Mine does this without going into vibration mode or anything elsr for that matter. It just vibrates, even when locked and when the screen's off...
Just noticed that it does indeed have something to do with the volume buttons. Just lock your phone, press down both of the volume buttons, unlock it and then you will feel the 3 vibrations
I've noticed mine vibrates when launcher pro crashes, happens while i'm listening to music and try changing the volume sometimes, every time it happens the next time i unlock the phone launcher pro has to restart.
Although I have noticed it some times vibrates when I try to lock or unlock the phone and accidentally hit the volume buttons, not sure what happens there though.
EDIT: Just been trying to lock and hold one of the volume buttons, I've noticed it locks up for a second or two, so it's most likely something crashing I think.
Really sorry to bump a thead from a few weeks ago - but has anybody had any luck with resolving this?
This is the only thread I could find on the matter, and it's becoming a big annoyance for me. It's NOT when I go into vibration mode or anything, it can be anytime - even when the screen is off.

I just tried this and you're right - the three vibrations. Perhaps it's by design but I can't see why.
Anyway it's nice to know how to do it on purpose; mind you I used to get it all the time with my old cheap case, with my new case it's never done it "by itself". It seemed a bit odd but I assumed the case was "pressing" both volume buttons when on standby from time to time (makes sense).
I've noticed when i'm putting the phone in my pocket (or out), i tend to grab it on the top with the volume buttons. And yes, it does vibrate when i accidentally press them.
Try it yourself.
Regards, clumsy long fingered dude.
Mine used to do this as well. It would be sitting on the desk not touching anything, screen off and it's just idling doing nothing on stock sense rom, then it would just vibrate randomly a few times. It was a bit spooky and it kept doing it randomly :/
It has since stopped doing that, no real reason I can see why, I have flashed LeeDroid but it stopped randomly vibrating before that.
I'm on AR HD and it's still doing it.
I'm not too bothered, but a fix would be nice.
If I keep randomly pressing buttons on the phone, it will make random vibrations. Sometimes one, two or three. I don't have to press the power button, the phone screen can be turned off, and the phone doesn't go into silent/vibration mode either.
I just played about with the volume buttons now and I got a bit of lag on my phone, lasted for about 15 seconds then went away...
