[Q] Gingerblur problems - Atrix 4G General

So I flashed my phone with GingerBlur, and while I love it, i'm having some problems. For one, my phone doesn't vibrate anymore when I get a message, which is really weird since it rings (Has this happened to anyone else?). Also the accounts are so screwed up (really motoblurs fault ). Anyway, i wanted to try to restart and see if I can alleviate these issues, how would I go about this. Should I sbf back to 1.26 then ota all the way to 1.83 then root and re flash? Or Is there an easier way to just go back to factory settings and then re flash. What produces the best results. Also, should I opt to skip the motoblur setup? does this help with the account/contacts mess?
Thanks so much for the help.

I always flash back to 4.1.26 then OTA updates myself. Personal preference. Some people flash 4.1.57 and instead. Motoblur account shouldn't mess things up. Never has for me.

Well Idk what was wrong with mine then, but by the accounts are screwed up, I mean like the different facebook/twitter accounts. It is weird but there are two different contact lists. The one in the dialer is totally different then the contacts application. The messaging app pulls from the dialer contacts list (i think), which the motoblur account cant communicate with. So no contacts pictures showed up for me, I had to use an app to copy all the pictures to my google account. I was wondering if not activating motoblur would stop these problems.

Questions...thank you
not really a reply but few questions...
I have an Atrix 4.1.83 rooted and sideloading applied...
I'm pondering the idea of installing a new rom..either Greyblur or GingerBlur..
1. with the exclusion of the removed bloatware..what are some other advantages of a custom rom...I'm sure is not just for the new look?
2. Since I'm on 4.1.83...if I install the custom rom..will I lose the latest Motorola update and HSPA ??
Sorry I know newbie questions...just want to be sure before I do anything...

If you look at the threads for both GingerBlur and GreyBlur you will see listed all the changes and benefits. Your phone will run smoother and faster, and you will have the ability to "sideload" apps from Amazon for example. Check out Gladiatrix also.
2. Since I'm on 4.1.83...if I install the custom rom..will I lose the latest Motorola update and HSPA ??
You will not lose the update. GreyBlur I believe is not updated for 4.1.83 yet, so maybe don't flash that one, but GingerBlur and GladiAtrix are.
Sorry I know newbie questions...just want to be sure before I do anything...
Worst case scenario is you flash 4.1.26 or 4.1.57 sbf again and then OTA to 4.1.83, root, and enable sideloading.

I did have an issue before where I ended up with 3 sets of contacts which were all messed up. I don't use Facebook, etc. for contacts. I keep that seperate from my phone contacts. If you have same issue as me, flashing back to 4.1.26, then OTA to 4.1.57 and 4.1.83, root, sideload enable, and GingerBlur 3.1 fixed for me.

Thank you for the quick response...I will try and report..

I just installed Gingerblur and I had a custom boot animation from Root Tools installed beforehand.
Everything was going well and Gingerblur installed itself perfectly. When I rebooted my phone, it's stuck on the custom boot animation and its been a while. Any idea what's happening?

Have you tried to press menu key when you were in text messaging app? Press Settings, and then at the bottom please check vibrate.

[Q] Restoring phones original software?

How do I restore my phone so that the original software it came with is back on? I accidentally removed the Facebook App the is equipped with the phone when I was supposed to remove "Facebook for Android". Now under accounts & sync I no longer see Facebook. I already tried volume down + power button factory restore and a factory reset in the settings. It didn't come back.
My phone is rooted running 2.2.1. Mytouch 4g.
flash the RUU in the downgrading post in dev section... but I dunno if you will get 2.2.1... quickly at least or get someone to pull the app and upload it for you

Actually my girlfriend has the same phone. How exactly do I copy the app off her phone and load it into mine? Is there a guide?
Will her phone also have to be rooted?
Follow this guide read the section to revert ,it will put your phone back the way it came from then root your phone again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Just download any "stock" or "stock-based" rom, extract facebook out of it and push to /system/app/ with ADB. There's no need to re-flash/re-root/re-mess with it anymore just because one app taken out.
And, seriously, /system/app space is wasted, you can't put your downloaded apps in there so why is everyone deleting system apps instead of freezing them (pm disable function)? It is so much easier with Titanium back-up app and, if later you decide to use it again, you can go back and unfreeze it again without going through these pains.
Good luck.

I just rooted my N1 for the first time

OK, congratulate me!! Thanks. I did it on the first try, no issue or hiccups what-so-ever.
Now for the info. I'm not sure that anyone will be interested, but I'm guessing other people in my position at least might be.
I'm very experienced with computers, but not working directly with rooting/unlocking devices. But I would say anyone who reads up a bit and can follow directions properly could pull it off pretty easily.
So I run 2.2.2, and I used superoneclick 1.6.3.
After opening superoneclick, I switched it from psneuter to rageagainsthecage. I had no idea if I was supposed to do this, but I read all about rageagainstthecage, and never heard of psneuter.
I had my phone connected to my PC, and I left my SD in the phone, but I unmounted it in settings. I have used ADB before, so I knew the drivers were installed and working, and I hit the button root.
After reading this site, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682, I started with debugging off, and turned it on as it said. I then turned it off, but didn't get a chance to turn it back on and off and on, so I just turned it back on (debugging) when it got to "Waiting for device" for the second time.
That was it! It asked to test and see if root was in fact accomplished, and it was. I then installed setCPU (which is basically the only reason I wanted to do this) and as far as I can tell it seems to be working fine.
I have been reading a lot about this for the past few days, but the actual procedure only took a couple of minutes. Keeping in mind, of course, that I already had ADB and drivers working.
Nothing was wiped off my phone, which surprisingly was hard to confirm on the web. I did read somewhere that only unlocking wipes data, but still, you never know.
I hope this helps anyone else who is new and unsure of the process, and I'd be happy to answer any other specific questions based on what I have learned of the last week or so. I know that people hesitate to ask questions in case they have already been asked lots of times, but are buried and hard to find (because that's the position I was in ).
Thanks for posting your "rooting" experience. I'm sure there are people that will find it helpful.
I think when I did mine, it was something along the lines of:
fastboot-oem-unlock
fastboot flash recovery <whatever>
reboot into recovery and flash rom
Other than the ability to install custom ROM's I've yet to see a huge deal in rooting my phone. Anyone care to tell me what I can do with a rooted N1 that is a must have? So far I tried to change some fonts, which didn't work, and discovered that I have to install a custom ROM to change the color of the notification bar, and I can't make the default Google music and news widgets slightly transparent. So educate me, what's the huge deal with rooting, aside from a custom ROM?
Set cpu of course like being said. I remember the first time I rooted my phone was universal androot it was a breeze. Then I lost root and use super one click to gain out back. Root really easy as well

Hi N1 owners.
I also just root my N1 with superoneclick 1.6.3
After that I flashed CM 6.1.1 and yesterday I tried CM7. Everything has worked fine for me so far, but I have some questions, I hope someone can answer.
1/Can I just flash random roms on top of each other, like i did from cm6 - cm7?
2/ Can I always restore backups, nomatter what rom I come from or to?
3/ when/if official GB come out, can I flash a stock rom and get the OTA update right away?
Sorry, if I ask silly questions ..
Built in trackball colors, call blocker, hide frequently called list in the favorites tab, remove unnecessary apps, tmobile wifi calling, notification bar power toggles, trackball wake and unlock, quiet hours, themes, etc., etc., etc. Just off the top of my head. Oh, and Gingerbread!!!

Some apps want to bypass the home screen "5 second rule" like widget locker, you need root. I setup a widget to reboot (nice!).

Unlocking the Bootloader wipes data, rooting does not. This is probably what you read.

1/Can I just flash random roms on top of each other, like i did from cm6 - cm7? Yes you can. Often if the ROM is the next version in a series, you can flash without wiping data or cache, but some ROMs require you to do this first.
2/ Can I always restore backups, nomatter what rom I come from or to? A Nandroid backup can be reinstalled from any ROM, or even just from Recovery if there is no ROM.
3/ when/if official GB come out, can I flash a stock rom and get the OTA update right away? Yes. Either restore your stock ROM Nandroid backup or a passimg.zip.

1. As a rule, if you are going from 1 ROM to another totally different ROM, it's always a good idea to wipe. It only takes a few seconds to sign back in to everything. You can bypass immediate sign in and activate wifi if you need it.
2. Nandroids can be reinstalled anytime. However, a nandroid does not contain your HBOOT and Radio. So if you updated those to use a specific ROM, they would stay in place with the nandroid restore.
3. When GB does finally make it out to our specific device, there is no way you would get an OTA before the ROM devs here had you up and running.
***Also note, the 1-click root tools may or may not work right away with the OTA 2.3. So to anyone that rooted using those tools and unrooted to hurry up and get an OTA, you may be stuck on stock until it gets fixed.

I agree, do a full wipe if it's a new ROM. Titanium Backup is a great way to get all of your apps and data back after installing the new ROM.

So what do you lose (if anything) when flashing a new ROM if you backup and do things the right way?
Another question would be if you just flash a new kernal do you lose any/all data?

I've rooted before, and lost root when ota's came. I've rooted again using superoneclick, and am contemplating cm7. But I feel very cautious about flashing a different rom, I'd cry if I bricked my phone. However, I'm probably going to do it during the next week (unless gingerbread ota arrives).

Hmmm, I have been anxious for GB too.... but I'm not sure it's worth it. I don't think it's such a big update. I don't think there's too much of a danger of brinking these days.
I have been contemplating doing what I have to to overclock, see what kind of a difference that makes...

[Q] Root Noob needs help!

because i have no shame, i'll admit it. this is my second root ever. first was on my droid 2 r2d2 to remove the crap that wasnt necessary.
using this tutorial, just google samsung continuum froyo, and its on addictive tips. I followed the directions properly.
Basically, I used odin3 with a custom froyo rom, i did everything correctly, and i began to use titanium backup to remove some bloatware. what i removed was the GO Launcher stuff and now my homescreen is just a black screen. I've tried using recovery mode and restored that way. i've done that 10+ times. i cant get to any apps, only pressing the bottom ticker to access my text messages and notifications slide down bar. thats it. no apps. at all. can someone tell me how to revert back to the original software? then i will re-root again and this time NOT remove anything. or someone can show me properly how to remove it.
thanks. itll help a lot!
Go launcher (in most roms for the continuum) the ONLY launcher installed so when you got rid of it with TiB you screwed the whole UI. Try booting into Recovery wipe data fact reset wipe cache. then reboot. pull battery reflash on odin, make sure repartition is unchecked. let it reboot. should be back to normal.
can you explain that in a different way. i tried wiping in recovery mode it didnt work
Are you using <2e> recovery (samsung stock) or CwM?
You removed the launcher, this is why. You probably deleted a file called TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
You have a few options now, do you have CWM installed? If so go download another rom, put it on your sdcard some how then install it. It will save you much time and you don’t have to remove the bloat as it’s already removed.
If you aren’t familiar with CWM(clock work recovery) I would suggest researching it s you will be dealing a lot with it.
I would recommend reflashing via odin so that you have all files again. If you want to get rid of bloat, install nuckin or eco07-clean they both are good basic roms. I am currently working on a rom which is called miunia it is as minimalistic as I can make it. It is still in beta forms but it can be installed through odin. If you want the launcher I suggest flashing one of mine for the time being..

if you deleted the actual file, just rebooting the phone won't fix the issue. you will have to replace the launcher or factory reset.
For future reference, another option is to get on android market from your computer and download a launcher. It will send it to your phone and install automatically. Then, when you hit the home button, it should run the launcher.

Unable to send sms

I flash different roms all of the time, but i've never had this problem. After flashing back to CM7 on my Shift, I can receive texts but not send them.
I flashed a Sense rom and updated the PRL and Profile; nothing. Then I dialed *#*#4636#*#* for the SMSC update, tried both the 11-digit SMSC number and the 16-digit Hexadecimal PDU number, but every time I got the "update failed" message.
However, something must have worked, because despite nothing appearing to work, I can send and receive texts on the Sense rom. However, when I restore my CM7 backup, the problem resurfaces... even after attempting the SMSC updates in CM7.
Does anybody know what i'm doing wrong? I'd like to get my ability to send SMSs back on my AOSP rom.
I would try a Fresh Flash of the CM7 Rom you want to use. Instead of the CM7 Backup you already have. It may be corrupt, or just a bad Nand Backup.

Ah, well I was hoping there was a way to keep my settings and apps but so be it. I'll re-download the rom over WiFi tonight and post my results.
Well, after taking prboy's advice I re-download my CM7 rom (Sparksco's v1.1 stable version of CyanogenMod 7.2.0).
At first I did a full wipe before flashing, but ran into the same SMS issue as before. I ended up restoring my Sense rom with working SMS, then flashing CM7 over it without wiping, and now I am able to send and recieve texts like normal.
Only problem now is i'm missing a lot of functionality. For example, the home button doesn't work, I can't take a screenshot, the phone app for making calls is missing and I can't access the "CyanogenMod settings" from the settings menu.
Any ideas? Is it possible to backup/restore just the part of a rom that is responsible for SMS capabilities? In the meantime, i'll play with rebuilding caches and permissions.

Your pretty much worse off then when you started. Flashing a Rom on top of another Rom without wiping is not a good idea. Flashing a Non-Sense Rom over a Sense Rom without wiping is a really bad idea. You I'm sure have a lot of corrupt data. You can try this, Nand back to the Sense Rom. Update PRL / Profile. Then do a Full wipe and flash the CM7 Rom. You should have better results.

Playing with caches and permissions didn't help. I'll try what you suggested and a few other things.
Well keep us posted.
Well I fixed my issue, but not in the way I wanted.
I remembered I had a backup of an old CM7 nightly in my dropbox. I restored that, verified SMS worked, then wiped everything except /system and did a clean install of CM7.2.0. Everything is right again.
Out of curiosity, does anybody know where things like the profile, prl and SMSC number are stored on a phone? Is it even user-accessible from recovery or the OS?

Glad to hear it's working ok now. You can view your prl info on aosp under about phone. Currently there is no recoveries that have the prl or SMSC locations encoded into them. But if you happen to find out what the locations are, let me know and I might be able to pull some prl image files and post them into a flashable to flash in recovery.

Titanium Backup- doesn't sync settings

Hi,
I have a problem with TB.
I setup custom labels in the app and clicked on the Sync TB settings box in preferences. But when I wipe and flash a new rom and reinstall the app, my labels do not return.
Another issue I have is when I try to create an update.zip file. I go to flash it and it doesn't install. I've tried both signed and unsigned and it's the same result.
Anybody got any ideas?
1 labels for what? and are you backing up the correct thing to back them all up?
update.zip has always been flaky for me as well. when are you flashing it? ive noticed it doesnt work after flashing rom but after rebooting doin a few things in the rom (im sure you could just boot back to recovery after sign in) and flashing its there annnd thats on aosp roms i have had less sucess on sense roms

from TB you can create custom labels and then associate an app to them. Since the labels are created in TB, it is part of the settings. With the sync settings option selected, TB should be saving the settings to the SD card.
Theoretically, I should be able to wipe the phone and then re-install TB which is theoretically suppose to sync the previous settings and the custom labels should come back.
then when in filters the label is selected and you hit apply, all of those apps that were associated with the label should appear.
This makes restoring apps from a fresh ROM much easier than rifling through old back-ups.
Thanks for the heads up on the update.zip.
bump. with question
Does anybody have a suggestion on how to do the above easier?
How do you guys and/or gals flash new roms and get your most used apps up and running quickly?
Flash rom, download titanium, batch restore. Takes about 30-60 minutes depending on how many apps I restore.
