Good day! I am planning to buy an XPERIA ARC but reading all these problems reagrding reboots and wifi disconnections make me lose interest with the phone. Is there really a solution to this problem? Or can this problems be really fixed by SE in the future?
i havent suffered a random reboot ever on my arc, and yes they can be fixed by software updates
Havent had any reboots since the first day which was a month ago nearly now and no wifi problems apart from its a bit weaker than my htc hero.
please change the title, it sounds like you found a solution. you make your nick "arc x12" but don't know if you want the phone :s
I never had a wifi problems, and reboot doesn't happen that often. 3 or 4 times in 1 month.
Not a single reboot for me.I own an arc for nearly one month.
For more than one month now NO reboots NO WiFi problems! Rooted with 181 generic software! ;-)

You should ask in the same thread people complaining about the issues instead of opening a new one which is not necessary.
No reboots.. Wifi disconnects sometime for a second.. You will not even notice it if you are not downloading a large size file...
Ya, no probs here either with reboots or wireless.
Nearly 3 weeks and no problems with reboots or loss of signal.

perfect so far~
I have the wifi problem, and it is really disturbing
I have to turn it of and on again to avoid this
So if any one know how fix this please help me
I already installed the UK frimware 184 and still the same problem
My GF and I have had our Arcs for 1 month now and only mine has had a random reboot once.
Wifi is perfect both at home and work. Never disconnects, and always connects automatically when in range.

Not so long ago, when I connected to wifi, I got a message saying new firmware update.
It was around 40mb and it said it was an update for the camera.
I then downloaded and installed the frame rate.
I did not try pictures yet but tried some videos and I can comfortably say there is a good improvement!!!
I even tried the video camera in low light, even at 720p and there was NO FPS drop and it seemed a lot smoother than before and the colours were much better, it was not jerky but more smooth...
I would say there is a 20-30% performance increase at the minimum...
Did anyone else get this update? It was only some time last month this update appeared for me so I was wondering if anyone else got it since it has not yeat appeared in xda developers...
I have a normal HTC Desire HD, unlocked and this update came to me when I was on holiday in Egypt of all places!!
If I got this update surely others must have got the same.
Looking forward in hearing what other people have to say about the new update.
this is actually quite old.
generally, people say that camera is really a bit better now, but now we have some new problems like location getting stuck and random SMSs.
not yet in asia,zzzz
Probably fine for unrooted devices.

Yeh, that is unrooted devices having the issues. Hence HTC have pulled the most recent update. But hey not everyone knows about these issues if they haven't suffered the wrath of the 172.

Can unrooted users not download it somewhere online and then just copy the update to their sd card and update that way?
I think there are ways and means, but I would wait for the official OTA update, as like i say HTC pulled it for a good reason. The notification issue was no the only one. There are threads about that. It affects all users as far as i can tell. I actually had to install a third party messenger (chomp) app to get full usage back to my phone.

Hmm, I hope the update hasn't affected my phone in anyway. The only strange thing it has been doing lately was giving me trouble connecting to wifi, does not want to obtain an ip address...

Lol, you said that's ONE of the problems, meaning there are more!!!
Not long after updating the camera firmware, my wifi has been working like ****...
It works when it wants to, reception is poor and it does not like obtaining ip addresses anymore, even from my own home wifi network!!!
Anything I can do becides a flash/factory reset as I cannot be bothered to reinstall and setup everything unless I REALLY HAVE TO!!

Hey guys. I have noticed ever since i've gotten my Atrix that the wifi is always getting dropped when im inside a bedroom or some 20 ft away from the router. At first i thought it might have been just my router having issues but my laptop never experienced any wifi droppage like that though. The only times i don't get dropped signals are when im actually right infront of my router
I've read that sim-unlocked devices may experience this issue but mine isn't, or at least i don't think it is. I bought it from n AT&T store and im pretty sure they wouldn't sell an unlocked device, ever...
So my question is then, has anyone found a solution to this? I mean it's starting to become a real big hassle having to wait for my connection to come back up so i can continue using my phone
Even if you don't have a solution, please post here if you are also having the same issues because i'd like to know if its just my phone thats defective or not. My brother also bought an Atrix lest than a month ago and its having the same issue so i have no clue if either both our devices are defective or if its a general issues most users are having, cause if so, i think Atrix users should either get a refund or at least an update to fix this issue.
I have the same exact issue on my Bell atrix.

Same here as well.
No issues with previous devices or the 9700, Torch, Captivate or iPhone that others in the household use or my laptop come to that. Just the Atrix.
Mine is just rooted and currently running GreyBlur but not unlocked.
Just down loaded WiFi Analyzer from the Market to see if that can shed light on the issue.
make sure that you are not on a battary save or custom battary mode, cuz it's droping the wifi connection every time the phone goes to sleep mode.

by default wifi goes to sleep as soon as the display goes off. you need to get into advanced wifi settings (wifi settings->menu->advanced) and change sleep policy to never
Now that is a useful bit of info
Thankyou !
Its not the sleep policy all tho that'll help the majority of ppl here. Mine drops during certain load points like getting updates from market or refreshing xda... Now to be honest after flashing the telstra rom it has disappeared.
Hopefully that little bit of code that capped our atrix was the culprit and an update will fix that bad boy

Yeah I've always had my phone set to performance mode and had the wifi sleep policy always set to never. But still the problem persists
But I guess ill try out the 1.4.2 SBC since that sewed to remedy the problem for one user. Nit sure if it'll work for me though cause I'm w att and that SBF seems to be for Bell Atrixs.

Yep, i have this problem as well. Haven't seen this on LG Optimus X2, also i've got SE Mini X10 for my mom a few days ago and it's behaves much better in this respect, does not drops wi-fi at all. My Atrix drops wi-fi every 10-15 minutes when in the far room, other android phones, nokia phones, laptops and netbooks does not drop connection in the same place, so it's certainly Atrix problem. Let's hope the fix will come

Am I missing something? I don't think the Bell Atrix has its SBF release. Are you thinking of the Telstra Atrix's SBF?
I found this app called Wifi fixer: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.wahtod.wififixer
Has anyone tried this?
I've noticed my Wifi dropping after 10-20 minutes of being used. It's very annoying. Bell Atrix with sim unlock and rooted

This is why I returned my atrix. I was hoping one of the updates fixed it as I was considering picking the phone back up.

To be honest the updates did very little to fix anything... The HSPA+ speeds are dismal and you can barely tell any difference between your previous speeds and new speeds if you're in a 4G area but one thing for sure that the updates did do was, not surprisingly, unrooted us =]
And for us lucky ones with Atrices (same plurality as matrices?) that have wifi issues, Moto was kind enough to not fix this issues which was most likely software and not hardware, as they rolled out 2 OTA's in nice timely fashions!
Heya,
Today I'm the proud owner of the Ideos x5!
But there is one thing, I've emailed huawei about it..
The wifi is acting verry strange, found this video on youtube (I have exactly the same issues!)
If I look into settings and watchup the wifi connection it says "1mbps".
On my lg gt540, laptop, ps3 is verything fine.
Does someone have this problem to? Or have a fix?
Thanks!

Try stockwells rom there's some supposed wifi fixes in it
@andreasha thanks for the hint, I have him only a few days so don't want to flash him yet! Only if i'm sure that it will solve the problems.
@wolfgr Tryed it without any security and it's still poor.. same as WPA/WPA2.
Try go to wifi settings then push menu button and go to advanced put wifi to always on or something like that.
Switching WiFi to always on does not fix the drop-out problem. I frequently lose wifi on my X5 even with it always on, particularly when downloading several app updates and so forth. It's very frustrating, I have WPA2 on my router, don't know if that's related or not. I updated to the newer ROM on the Huawei site but that did not help. Apparently there's an even newer rom due to be released that contains WiFi tethering and some unspecified "WiFi stability" fixes, but no idea when that's going to be released unfortunately.
This is by far the worst issue I have with the X5, in fact if it's not fixed soon (I've had mine for about a six weeks now) I'm giving up on it and buying a Nexus S!

Hmm, I see what you mean. I assumed it was just the Ideos X5, but it does seem to be a common Android fault on several different handsets and several different Android versions. Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Desire, (there's even threads about it on Xooms!), you name it there are similar reports from all over. Don't give up on the X5? This is all the more reason to give up on it (and Android) I'd say. How can Android pretend to be a serious contender if it can't provide reliable WiFi connections? WiFi is hardly a new technology!
Well I've got a e-mail back from Huawei:
Dear Sir/Madam
sorry for the inconvenience it brought to you , you could take your devie to the vendor or the authorized service center of your operator for a test and check, they will decide whether you could enjoy the warranty or not according to our warranty policy(could meet

Well of course the choice is yrs wot I find exciting with the X5 is the development going on here from stockwell, genokolar and others who freely give their time and energy to exploit all they can from this awesome ph!! And there wouldn't be much point to all their efforts without the community of X5/u8800 owners out there wanting the most from their phs they can possibly get I just wish I knew a bit about programmimg etc so I could contribute something to the dev side of things - oh well, I live in hope, lol!

hello guys I have a nexus with one gingerbread 2.3.4 and when I use the 3G network after 2-3 minutes the phone restarts. with this bug I can not use Internet
any ideas? Thanks!
Yes. Me to.
What ROM and/or kernel combo you guys using?
I have the stock rom ota gingerbread 2.3.4, nothing changed, full stock. I recently tried miui 1.5.20 the problem is the same. may be a hardware problem?
Does the phone get hot to the touch on the back? Does the phone still reboot if you turn off 3g data and you go exclusivly Wifi?
Had the same issue with my old Nexus 1. Called HTC support and they immediately said it was a defective board. RMA'd and got refurb, but at least it does not reboot when I use 3g.
Good luck.

I didn't help for me. I tried the 5.12.00.08 radio and it suffered from the same 3g reboots. But when I disabled 3g and used Wifi, never suffered from reboots.
If the phone is still under warranty, definitely encourage you to call them. HTC's customer and tech support is the best I've ever seen. They replaced it no questions asked, even though my phone is rooted and bootloader unlocked.

+1 They are awesome to deal with. It really makes me sad that they are starting to lock down their phones, because I won't buy a phone if I can't run custom ROMs on it.
But with the radio, I highly doubt flashing to 5.12 would help. Google released the 5.08 radio with the OTA update to Gingerbread. If 5.12 was any better, I'm sure they would've included it. There had to have been a reason they stuck with 5.08.
If you aren't afraid of losing anything, or already made backups, you could try the passimg method of giving you a completely stock install. See if the problem occurs with that as well. This would rule out software vs hardware.

I really don't think it can be resolve without sending it back to HTC for a replace/repair. As I said in my previous posts, I've tried 3 different ROMs - stock, cyanogenmod 6 and 7 - all exhibit the same issue - reboot when on 3g, but perfect if on Wifi. And yes, it will reboot even on a freshly install ROM (no apps installed).
HTC knows of this issue and they will replace/repair. I got a refurb and it works perfectly - stock, cyanogenmod 6 or 7.
Sorry, probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but search on <insert your favorite search engine> and you will find that this is a fairly widespread problem.
Thank you for your answer! It does not work, had sent a factory repair.
After several tests, on Monday I sent the phone in for service. I think it's a hardware problem, maybe a bad batch of motherboards.
my S / N: HT05... and your?
I will tell you just back from assistance.
Did you ever overheat it? I believe that the N1 has a problem if you really push it that it can overheat. Once it happens once it will happen again and every time it takes less and less to cause the reboot. Eventually it reboots just with 3G.
I was running mine in the car-mount with GPS, Google Maps (3G), screen on brightest, on a hot summer day while charging ... and it rebooted. Didn't think much of it but then it started rebooting every time I used GPS and charging.
In the end it was pretty near useless ... rebooting all the time. I sent it in twice (the first time they couldn't reproduce the problem) and the second time they replaced the board. Problem solved.
Now I am very careful not to overheat it.
I thought gingerbread was going to fix the Atrix random reboot issue. Well it has not. Late last night while using the Atrix, poof. It restarted itself. This is probably my fourth Atrix, but it has lasted the longest without a reboot.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
It has happened to me atleast twice now ever since updating OTA to Gingerbread.
Phone is just rooted nothing else.
I have never experience this problem on stock or custom roms. You don't have any custom kernels installed, such as overclocking, do you?
In my experience (maybe twice in a month) this happens when there is signal/reception, but no data, and you start pushing the phone my trying multiple data enabled apps.
On both occasions I had full bars/signal yet no data (stupid telco) or very slow data, in frustration I was hitting refresh, opening other apps to kill time / see if it was app or network problem etc. then BAM. Kinda like how a corporate windows build loses its mind if it loses its connection to its domain resources.
Annoying
I had this issue before, and it was an issue with the phone itself not the software. If it is still within your 90 days return it for a new one and that should fix your problem.

no chance for me, in Australia, grey market import
In all honesty not a big deal if it doesn't happen too often
I'm on stock everything on my Atrix. I font think swapping the phone works, like I said this is my fourth Atrix lol.
My reboots happen at random. No specifics are the same at anytime. If I do swap it again though it will be for another phone entirely, but for what I don't know. I know a few people with the Inspire and they've had their problems. I know one person with the Infuse who has yet to have an issue, but either way I'm taking a huge downgrade.

Reboots
Anyone got a solution? I just updated Tuesday and I have had many random reboots. I am having the reboot 3-4 times a day. I never had the issue prior to Gingerbread.
I haven't had any reboot issues on mine nor my GF's, but I agree that it seems to be either the phone or a faulty app.
I know someone that had 2 from early batches and finally had a stable one after returning the others and hasn't complained of any issues since then.
Another co-worker had issues but uninstalled an app that kept force closing and never had the reboot issues come back.
One other thing to try is a factory reset...if it hasn't been attempted yet.
just had my first reboot over the weekend. other than that its not rebooted yet. but its only a week old.
