Not so long ago, when I connected to wifi, I got a message saying new firmware update.
It was around 40mb and it said it was an update for the camera.
I then downloaded and installed the frame rate.
I did not try pictures yet but tried some videos and I can comfortably say there is a good improvement!!!
I even tried the video camera in low light, even at 720p and there was NO FPS drop and it seemed a lot smoother than before and the colours were much better, it was not jerky but more smooth...
I would say there is a 20-30% performance increase at the minimum...
Did anyone else get this update? It was only some time last month this update appeared for me so I was wondering if anyone else got it since it has not yeat appeared in xda developers...
I have a normal HTC Desire HD, unlocked and this update came to me when I was on holiday in Egypt of all places!!
If I got this update surely others must have got the same.
Looking forward in hearing what other people have to say about the new update.
this is actually quite old.
generally, people say that camera is really a bit better now, but now we have some new problems like location getting stuck and random SMSs.
not yet in asia,zzzz
Probably fine for unrooted devices.

Yeh, that is unrooted devices having the issues. Hence HTC have pulled the most recent update. But hey not everyone knows about these issues if they haven't suffered the wrath of the 172.
So thats cool...

Can unrooted users not download it somewhere online and then just copy the update to their sd card and update that way?
I think there are ways and means, but I would wait for the official OTA update, as like i say HTC pulled it for a good reason. The notification issue was no the only one. There are threads about that. It affects all users as far as i can tell. I actually had to install a third party messenger (chomp) app to get full usage back to my phone.

Hmm, I hope the update hasn't affected my phone in anyway. The only strange thing it has been doing lately was giving me trouble connecting to wifi, does not want to obtain an ip address...
Apart from this I have not noticed any other problems...

Lol, you said that's ONE of the problems, meaning there are more!!!
Not long after updating the camera firmware, my wifi has been working like ****...
It works when it wants to, reception is poor and it does not like obtaining ip addresses anymore, even from my own home wifi network!!!
Anything I can do becides a flash/factory reset as I cannot be bothered to reinstall and setup everything unless I REALLY HAVE TO!!

If I apply the OTA update do you think that Sprint will re-block ROOT access? (Just like they did with OTA update on 6/4/2010). I know its hard to tell since the update isnt out yet, but do you think the chances are high that they will?

Doesn't matter, all the good stuff will be stripped out.
Even if they do block it, phones aren't shipping with it, so only those who update without paying attention to the warnings will be affected.
I know this is semi-unrelated but where is the evidence to suggest froyo is coming tomorrow? I would pretty much jump for joy right now if this appeared to be true, but I wont be too disappointed if there is none.
Just wondering!
The update is not rumored to be froyo, it's supposed to be a maintenance release to fix a few issues.

Hi guys! I am new to the android world coming from windows mobile where OTA updates didn't exist. So I am curious to learn how this works. Does it just update itself? Do I have to do anything?
Also this is abit off topic but is there a file explorer that comes with android or do I have to download an app?
You will get a popup window asking you if you want to update to xx.xxx.x.xxxx.
You can choose, yes or no.

Android has no file explorer, you have to get one from the market. I use ASTRO all the time.

Wifi can't be fixed. Can give to more juice to boost power, but reduce battery life. Or HTC can be magical like Apple and just change all the bars to full signal. For the most part, the current weak signal issue is a display issue.
If this OTA fixes grounding issue and patches HTC's network/battery draining Friendsteam, it would be considered a sucess.

The "Better battery life" was quoted out of context, it only applies to people using facebook app. "Addresses Social Networking Sync issue with Facebook application which can improve battery performance"
So is this update pretty much useless? I think ill pass if it doesnt really fix anything but wifi
What about screen sensitivity?

I dont get it. Why does everyone keep mentioning the original OTA blocked ROOT?
Did the OTA on 6/4/2010 and still used the same Toast root as everyone else.
The only thing that broke was Unrevoked and that was likely due to an incidental change of system files that they depended on initially.
Doubt the next OTA will do anything on purpose to root methods either.
It wouldn't surprise me if they close the root loophole in the OTA particularly since HTC has gotten so much backlash over the 30fps limit and how much the devs are embarrassing them with the whole thing.
Custom ROMs will all be based off the OTA just like the first one, so I don't see what people are worried about. You keep your root and get the benefits.

I have this really really really really powerfully nagging doubt about that, but I am also hoping.
Anyone having issues after installing the leaked OTA update? I've noticed my alarms are no where near reliable anymore. I thought maybe the issue was the stock clock app, but I'm seeing the same thing with "Alarmed Lite". While this isn't a huge problem, I'm interested in seeing if anyone else has noticed anything similar. Right now at a cross roads. I love the updated camera, but I do rely on my phone for alarms.
My only other issue right now is my Karnivor (MQ2'ed, midblocked, Yakuza'ed) is extremely inefficient, and the Yak doesn't seem to recognize a normal trigger pull. Guess that's a topic for another forum though....

stop using a task killer if you are, or check to see if you are killing anything that could be affecting your alarm. I used to use taskiller until I did some reading and I must say the system runs with less quirks now that I don't use one...
If you do not use a task killer, it may just be an issue with the ota, can't say for sure... as per the post above mine, I did read that the ota may not have been released because it may be incorporated into a following ota (possibly froyo) not because of "countless" issues...

I see no threads like that. I do, however, see some threads about getting it to work 100%. I also know from personal experience that any issues are user error, as I had/have the ota installed and have no issues with it whatsoever.
I use my alarm for morning wake ups everyday and it has been flawless. The update gave me no issues that I can see and I've been running it at least a week.

I haven't had a single problem with my OTA update either. But the hit or miss must be why they haulted the release. Can't wait for Froyo as is the same with everyone though.
If what's been going around the internet about 2.2 being released around the end of the month, that could also be why they pulled it. Changed their minds about the update and decided to just go full froyo. Or it could be a test ota meant only for devs to test out the new radio and drivers. At this point it's all speculation...but anyway this is getting offtopic.
To the OP, it almost sounds like you have some kind of auto task killer installed or something...

I actually don't run a task killer, and when I did (pre ota update) I excluded the clock. I use SystemPanel now. Wonder if it's worth it to roll back and try again. Anyone know if it's safe to go back to the previous hboot and then reapply the patch?
My alarms work just fine, have had absolutely no issues with ota update.
Anyone else have problem with FM radio after OTA?
I've rooted 4 incredibles with this ota and only one had a problem of not being able to hear when on a phone call but if you turn speaker on it would work and you could hear it was pretty weird
I had constant reboots with the leaked OTA so I went back to stock. I'll wait for the 2.2 OTA to come out and for Unrevoked to hack it up.
Hi everyone, first time posting!
I just received a notification that T-Mobile has an update for my Vibrant. Did anyone else get this? Could this be the GPS fix everyone's been talking about? I'm installing it right now!
I tried to manually update it but I got the same old message "no firmware! "
It didn't end up going so great... It hanged on the Vibrant screen after the update. Doing a nandroid restore right now.
Lol. Really?
My first post so here it goes.
I just finished downloading the update and its not 2.2. I have noticed a few slight changes though. First being that websites seem to open faster and scroll smoother, it could just be me though. The menu that is brought up when you are using the browser is different and has a brightness control on it.
There is a new HD camcorder application and a task manager application. I have only had it running for a couple minutes. In not sure if there is a gps fix cause I'm in my basement so it its rare for me to get any signal down here.
I also just found out youtube videos have a HQ button on them now.
Just checked with mine and I get the "no firmware" as well.
looks like JI6 then?
So how do theses OTA updates work? Does everyone get it at the same time or does it update few people at a time? Anyone know?
Will I get any update if my phone is rooted and has lag fix installed?

I'm already on JI6 so it's all good!
GPS has been OK with this version, over WiFi it's really not going to work well for some reason. Jumps around all over the place.
Tracking has been reliable overall. Using it with the Root Wireless app to track my network coverage it was very quick to lock in.
Samsung posted this on Facebook as well.
The Gallery is still problematic.
Reception has been EXCELLENT, overall if this is what we would have gotten back in July people would have been much happier.

Not to sound like a douche, but I think it's pretty obvious that Sprint & HTC plan on releasing an update that would fix the problems presented with the GB update.

My GPS is no different than before, just to let you know for comparison.
Thought my GPS was broken too but it just took a while to 'find' itself. Was hoping the update might have been a preparation for an unlocked bootloader (yes I know it has only been announced for 'current and future handsets'). But I still live in hope. Only had the update for a couple of hours so will need to monitor over a couple of days to assess the affect.
