I just Odin'd back to DL09 and OTA'd up and ended up with ED03. akatcl over at AC posted an hour ago so I was in the flashing mood (when am I not). I verified a new OTA drop from Verizon ED03 with same kernel.
FW 2.2.1
Baseband ED03
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build Number ED03
See link from akatcl at AC.

Odd. Have you noticed any improvements in the radio? Assuming this is true of course.

I'm in the process of doing the same, the froyo ota is currently downloading on my phone. I've looked all over the web for reports of this and haven't found anything, even checked the samsung open source website, doesn't seem to show this update, but sure enough it seems to be there nonetheless.

Seems to be true thus far as the link Skate provided has pictures of akatcl's phone showing ED03. My update is soon to be done and I'll report back my findings.
It might just be a small update to fix a bug, kinda like what EA28 was for DL09. Regardless, I think I'm gonna go to EA28 and see what this new update is about.

Yes, very possible. But the strangest thing is.. when you're completely stock ED01 it doesn't find any new updates when you check now within system updates in settings. I had to flashed the DI01 package and OTAed to EA28 then the froyo OTA after and instead of getting ED01 like usual, you get ED03. Now the big question is, why do you have to do that in order to get ED03 and why hasn't there been any announcements.. Also why is the build number dated two days after ED01.. That's very strange for it to be just a fix. Guess in the coming hours/days hopefully things will unfold.
It's probably for the phones that are stuck on DL09 and EA28 that wont accept ED01

Hey, that's a pretty good theory... That sure would be good for them people having that issue.
I was planning to go comrom1.3 tonight so I went through the DL09->OTA process and ended up with ED03 as well.
Hmm.. I may have to see if I can get the ED03 on my phone.
I've noticed that it's smaller than ED01. ED03 is 100,276KB, while the ED01 update.zip in the thread below is 100,297KB.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044474
Anyway, ED03 just finished downloading for me, so I'm going to install it.
EDIT: Okay guys, I found something REALLY weird. If you're on ED03 and check for new updates, there IS another update. It's called SCH-1500_EA28_ED03_Commercial_Package. Unless this just replaced the old ED03 update, this is a bit odd.
EDIT2: ...And I can't seem to download it.
EDIT3: Now the update that I was talking about is no longer available.
EDIT4: Okay, so I just checked and apparently I'm already on that commercial package, so nevermind, I just wasted your time if you read all of this.

I'm noticing nothing different at first glance with ED03 compared to ED01... Really wish they would of posted an announcement as to what this is. This is all pretty strange.
Well this is an interesting new development. Especially considering there has not been any announcements about it.

I just noticed something... [Edit: as Tkun just posted]
In the "status" of the update screen, it lists it as
I500_EA28-ED03_Commercial Package. (and amusingly links to the VZW page with info on ED01).
Did ED01 mention EA28? It is sounding like it is meant to solve the problem of those stuck on DL09.
I'm running this now too. This is pretty strange.
Software Fixes with – i500.ED03
1) A software change was made to address a FOTA over the air upgrade issue which would have prevented users from getting the next software version pushed to the device. They would only be able to pull it.
2) Addressed an issue were the camera checks to see if it have the latest software and incorrectly reports it is up to date
3) A software change was made so that geo-tagging of pictures taken with the camera is not attempted since the device does not support this capability

This german site apparantly has first-hand information that Samsung is planning to roll out the Froyo update mid-September, via Kies of course...
This makes me wonder how close to final the JPC update was...
Also, Kies ist just downloading an update (and taking forever to do it) which might also point at things approaching some kind of big release. I have no idea whether the GPS fixes and Lag fixes will be included in this mid-September release, but I'd guess it's pretty unlikely since the last info from Samsung was that they are "looking into it" implying that they don't really know yet. Maybe we'll at least see some improvement, test runs with Jm6, Jm7 and JPc indicate that GPS performance is being worked on at least.
We'll see what September will give us and then start hoping for October updates...
I'm watching the new version of Kies trickle on to my PC as I type... I was thinking the same... is this a new Kies which won't brick Bell user's phones when they try to upgrade to Froyo!? It seems finding out what's new will take a while though... been downloading this update for about an hour already... and still have 37meg to go! S

I suppose this is in line with the same line of announcements that were stating that a Korean Froyo would be available by end of August...
Mine just finished. So far all it's telling me is that I can't update from JPC...well...that#s not exactly new, but it also isn't mid-September yet...^^
I"m kinda noob @ android stuff , atm I got the Galaxy S rooted with lag fix is kies the only possibility to get the new offical froyo soon? so yes , is there anyway a good tutorial for how to use kies..
Thanks

I definitely think delaying past mid-September is a bad move. Many other high end phones using the official 2.2 builds for about a month or more.
Then again, the announcement on Korean Froyo turned out to give false hope to a guy like me. Someone was saying how Optus would be getting this because he heard from an Optus rep that they were. I stated at that time there are 3 days left in August and Korea hadn't been upgraded now we are entering the weekend and will probably end the weekend waking up on the 6th of Sept without Froyo, so if everything else gets delayed the same amount of time...it doesn't mean great things for the rollout.
That said, I do think the hardware is similar enough that I was originally surprised to hear they might get Froyo as many as two weeks before the next countr(y/ies). Maybe they will condense the rollout timeframe.
My Kies doesn´t find new version. Can anybody post the version number of the new one?
versionnumber is : 1.5.1.10074_45
Maybe a download link?
i have 1.5.1.10074_2 and it's the only one available on samsungmobile pages (at least for UK and my country)
mine isnt showing an update either. im running 1.5.1.10074_2

Nice, I have been waiting for an announcement like this. Can't wait to get 2.2, mainly for the chrome2phone feature and of course Flash.
Two weeks ago i received the ji6 update
last night, my phone received a firmware update
i thought it was the froyo update
i installed the new firmware
once i installed it, i noticed i was missing features
i no longer had the task manager or media Hub
i checked my phone's info and the firmware update actually brought me back to 2.1 update1
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Both the original JFD and the OTA JI6 (as well as all the intermediary leaked firmwares) are 2.1 update1. 2.1 update1 denotes the current revision of Eclair itself, while JFD and JI6 denote revisions of Samsung's verion of 2.1 update1.
So take a peek again and see which version of Samsung's baseband is installed.
it says T959UVJFD
To see your baseband and firmware versions, make sure to use Settings/About Phone..
Seems like we're serving as test beds for the Sammy dev's, maybe not such a bad thing. The j16 update fixed my hardware locked phone. I'm hoping they resolve the battery draining issues before, or with 2.2.

Well, it's safe to say for whatever reason your back on the stock firmware the phone shipped with...
Happened to me as well, its because JI6 was pulled for being "not so great" (it was bricking too many phones)
I know this isn't a Cliq forum but my wife is getting an operating system update on her Cliq right now - I wonder if she is beating me to Froyo??!
Edit: I suppose she is actually getting eclair.
This may be a dumb question but: should I be worried that this hasn't happened to me as of yet?
A buddy of mine has had three updates on his. Weird.

Do you have any actual evidence to support the claim that JI6 was "pulled" (I assume you mean by TMO/Samsung)?
JI6 was never pulled and it is actually a great update. Sped the phone up a bit, added some new things, and made the GPS decent. Besides the bricking (which was probably user error) no problems.

Have to disagree with the "great update" part. lol
But as far as the update being pulled, with no word from T-Mo of it being pulled I called BS. Furthermore, why would they push an update to phones and revert them back to JFD? Doesn't make sense.
Same thing happened to me this AM. I recieved an exchange unit yesterday, because after the JI6 update, the GPS still would fluctuate all over the map which was especially frustrating when navigating because the app would continuously reroute you. Received the exchange unit, got it set up the way my old phone was, and made sure to check the baseband version. It had JI6. Woke up this morning with an icon similar to the missed call icon, clicked on it, and it said there was a new update from TMobile. Performed update which took about 10 minutes, then checked to see what was different. Checked the basband version and it is now T959UVJFD. Checked GPS with GPS status, and I have strong signal from 13 satelites, but only locked on to 2 with 143 ft accuracy... Last night before the update had accuracy to 12 ft. WTF!

I got an OTA last night and now I am running Windows Phone 7, some weird stuff happening here 0.o
Possible Theory
While I haven't received either the official OTA, nor the mysterious overnight one, I have a question. Is it possible that the overnight push to revert is an attempt at scrubbing the unofficial JI6 updates from the phone only to install the actual official one? So if we chose to update through Kies originally when it was leaked or some other method, could the be T-mobiles way of resetting and executing?

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Is this T-mobiles attempt to flush out the bad update? But why waste the resources to push out a revert "update" to phones? Who knows, it's some kind of consipiracy.

A poster on another forum claims the same reversion OTA just happened on his phone, and it wasn't even rooted, which wouldn't fit your theory. Although just getting all the relevant facts in these situations is often the biggest obstacle.
Maybe they need to roll us back in preparation for Froyo?
I know, I know, it makes no sense, but none of this makes sense.

Nothing at all about dk28
no more GPS?
I don't see anything at all on my Sprint page about this update or even anything specific to the version of software on my phone.
I installed this update earlier today and the GPS on my phone no longer works. It worked before and I never noticed any problems or delays that others reported. I've tried wiping the data and cache numerous times and even re-installing the upgrade but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I might try? At this point I question whether or not this is the same update we'll receive OTA...
Thanks,
Scott

So you think Sprint's plan is to push this update to everyone OTA and then have all the end-users install Odin and fix it? Even while denying that there is such a release? Hilarious!
This is not an official rollout. It is a leak. Those who install it, and are comfortable with some level of hacking, may proceed at their own risk, as usual.
But no one should believe this is an official release from Sprint.

Um.. That makes no since..
He had to odin BACK to di18 because he installed a leak..
the official is based off the knowledge of the user never hacking the phone and leaving it stock.
Therefore; no the average user will not need to use odin.. infact won't even know about it.
But those who have come to xda WILL need to odin back to stock di18 in order for the official Froyo to work when it is launched.

Suppose you got an update OTA. Wouldn't you consider it official?
If you have followed the original thread (which has been closed), the update happened OTA to a non-Sprint person. That is why many people claim it's official.
Why would Samsung release DK28 as official Froyo full of bugs when their Eclair builds were flawless? It doesn't make any sense. I sure wish people would stop saying that this is the official release and confusing new people. This is NOT the official release. There is NO evidence for that. Its NOT a finished product at this point.

UGH. How many times does this need to be explained? He had a .4 hardware revision. .4 hardware revisions are for TESTERS. He received the update OTA because SOMEHOW he got ahold of a hardware revision that only TESTERS should have. This has all been discussed a thousand times.
Also, if this WAS the official release it would be a disaster for sprint.

"The official Sprint version of the upgrade has not been released. When it is, I will post a thread to the Samsung Epic forum and update the Samsung Epic Maintenance Release blog (http://community.sprint.com/baw/com.../2010/11/08/samsung-epic-maintenance-releases). I didn't remove the link. It still works. But the Sprint site is very slow today. If you manage to get through, you will see that the quote above is accurate.
It downloaded randomly and says something like "phone will update, power down, and power up automatically for this special offer"---GREAT!! a SPECIAL offer that is ESPECIALLY ANNOYING!
I dont like how someone can just download something on my phone like that without my permission. when i want to update windows, I go and manually update it. i dont need someone to hold my hand.
anyway, it obviously didnt work.
1)it tried to reboot and it goes to the little android guy with exclamation mark and it says some failure to update message.
2) I just hit reboot phone and it goes back to my homescreen
3)it goes directly into trying to install again.
4)my only option is to postpone it for 24 hrs
What should i do? I want:
1) full control over my device(pls go verizon or whoever is trying to control my phone)
2)to fix this issue
Since you are rooted on a stock rom use Titanium Pro to freeze or un install Innopath Active care. What os version is your phone on now?
good day.

its on DI01.
first thing I did when I got the phone was do the "how to root, install CWM, voodoo,...." thread.
I haven't updated it because the thing runs great and I was just going to wait until we have a super stable 2.2 to go to.
Is freezing innopath gonna cause any problems though??
I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed on this forum yet. not that I am impatient. usually these guys are really on top of things.

It won't cause problems. And what else can they do, anyways? The developers here can't automagically push changes to your phone! If you install any of the ROMs posted here, the updater won't try to update it, because it won't be there (or, like said, you can just manually disable/remove it).
You probably didn't see anything about it because there hasn't been a new update recently or anything, the last one being a fairly minor update shortly after the previous one was released to boot.
If you're still running DI01, it's probably trying to update you to DL09/EA28, which is the current highest version.
As stated, either freeze it with Ti or just move the .apk to name.apk.old in /system/app. Either way will prevent it from running, ever.
Well dl09 also fixes gps. It's nice.
Seriously, DI01 is obsolete. EA28 is better in every way. But if you chose to love your DI01, there is nothing we can do.
Also, adrynalyne's super clean rom is pretty nice. But again it's up to you.

ya i want to update, but I am waiting until we have an update that will get me to a stable 2.2 that has some more roms to choose from.
i actually havnt kept up to date with how 2.2 is right now for this phon, how stable is the leaked version?? my phone just runs flawlessly and I want to keep it like that. the main reason I would even upgrade is just to get flash and fix gps(which i dont really have much problem with anyway)

thats what i was affraid of.
since i have voodoo on DI01, i heard it was a pain to update to anything, is that true? dont i have to completely remove voodoo and clear my phone then update?
anyway, i will definitely just freeze stupid innopath, get your hands off my phone verizon and/or samsung!!
thanx bros!!!!!
Well even if you have voodoo, you can flash dl09 all in one odin which will bring you up to spec with the public accessibility.
The current 2.2 works wonders in comparison however... I don't know how I lived without it.
I bet he is still on voodoo .02. So that adds to the misery.
good day.

DL09 is one (minor) release behind. EA28 is the current latest public release.

Personally, I feel like I jumped the gun with EB01. GPS works worse, it's a bit flakier all around, and I had a hell of a time dealing with restoring SMS (I had to make a backup, restore an old one, back the SMS up, restore the eb01 backup, then restore the SMS... only to have the SMS app auto-delete all but the 200 latest!).

i am assuming that is the leaked 2.2 update???
this is the reason why i havent upgraded to 2.2 yet. it seems a little unstable. all the other public updates are too minor for the work that i have to do to get them.

EB01 is the latest Froyo leak (DL30 was the first&previous, and was far buggier). I upgraded to DJ05 because there were more rom/theme options available for it at the time than DI01, as well as hoping it'd fix the horrible GPS performance (it didn't, nor did EB01). I upgraded to EB01 after it was out for a while because, well, I wanted Froyo (plus, I'm going to be using Push updates for an app I'm working on... and C2DM doesn't work on Eclair).
I was pissed about all of the mis-information and lack of information. This prompted investigation and update of the original thread.
UPDATE: The OTA push for EB13 users has been started and should reach your devices today. If you haven't yet received the push, please be patient - there are a lot of devices in the queue to receive the EC05 update.

By the way, as of right now I still show nothing available, but I wil try to "be patient"... lol
IMO, Sprint shouldn't EVER tell an Epic user to be patient about ANYTHING. I think the Epic users have been OVERLY patient.
I've seen a single person claim the EB to EC update....ONE, and it was 'supposed to be' released this morning? Sprint / Samsung remind me of the back end of a BULL...it just keeps pouring out...
whats so hard about using odin to di18.... you'll get EC05 update as soon as you check....

Again, only a very small percent of users are on XDA. When the DI18 to EC05 rollout began it took 2 days before someone posted it here.

I could do it, but I just don't feel like doing a complete device wipe again. Even with backups, it doesn't always restore 100%.

Between the sites I'm checking, it's a substantial sampling of people. Oh, I get it, only those who don't frequent the forums get the update?
At this point, I don't understand
why anyone cares what Sprint says it is or will do. Over a day ago I found the most marvelous solution. I was on EB13, rooted with some bloatware removed, so I figured the OTA was not going to happen anyway. I thought it a waste of time to go back to DI 18. In the Android Central forums, about 4 p.m. eastern time yesterday, I discovered this thread:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epi...ooted-cwm-v2-5-1-0-rfs-odexed.html#post761525
I announced it on a couple of ongoing threads at the time yesterday. When I got home I did it myself, and presto, within three minutes had a fully rooted EC05, with no data loss whatsoever! The most fulfilling Odin experience I've ever had. So forget about waiting, literally within the next five minutes, if you follow the instructions at the above URL, you will have EC05, no loss of data, and as an extra treat, it is rooted so you don't even have to do that. Go for it, and leave your Sprint problems behind.

That not entirely true. My wife has DI18 and I have EB13. Neither of us have the OTA update yet. I've been checking both phones.
Speaking of checking both phones (Not to hijack the thread) but has anyone got the update after hitting "update firmware" or did it just appear on the phone that an update was ready when you least expected it? I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time checking for it manually every 15 minutes.
I got the system update notice last night and updated my phone today. I have to re-root, but that's ok, more practice for me

Well, after updating did any of the icons seem different? And was there 5 icons in the Notification Bar before you updated? If you said yes to the second one, you were on EB13 and got the update. If you said no to the first one, you were on DI18 and that will get us no where.
@the people who say "just Odin to DI18 and get the update", keep in mind:
Not everyone has a Windows PC.
Not everyone wants to get everything wiped, especially if they were on Stock EB13.
