[Q] How do I get my 8gb sd card back? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After formatting my sd card with a honeycomb image using ecm, how do I get it back to the full 8gb? Do I need to use the hp format tool? or was there something with files?

nvm, just formatting from nook worked and i think i meant windows32diskimaginer (or dd) not ecm.

i have the same problem i installed Honeycomb on my nook to try it out and now i want to try out CM7. but my windows xp wants me to format the SD card when i try to transfer the CM7 and Goggle apps . i tried to format in honeycomb but it bugs and does nothing. any suggestions for a noob.
thanks

Got an Android phone? I hear that works as well.

There is information around the web telling you to place your SD Card in your nook and go into settings, device info, unmount the SD, and then format it. This works using the auto-nooter process. Any mod requiring an EXT.4 partition (CyanogenMod, PhireMod, HoneyComb) will not allow this simple procedure. You`ll need software to format your SD card. We recommend using this tool built by the SD card manufacturers association. It is free and simple to use. You can download it here.
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/

There are also reports that putting the Sd card in a USB reader works. I experienced this too. Internal reader = "card not formatted", USB reader = success.
Cheers,
kev

I use SD Formatter. works great

[Q] SD-CARD not working

I just install cleanDroid on my HD2 and it works perfect. Very fast.
One thing, i can't access my 8GB SD card, Android doesn't recognise
my card.
Does someone know an solution, so i can access my files again. Android is better than WinMo, but i need my SD
Thanks in advance.
Eric
I had the same problem, plug the sd card into your pc, copy all your data to somewhere safe and format the card, put it back in your phone and then format it with the sd util on the phone. Hopefully this will work for you it did for me.
Darren
Darren,
Thanks for your fast reply, do you know where i can find this app in android?
It's now the second day of use.
Thanks
Well you can find all the apps in the market for android. And for the matter of your SD card. I would recommend using Panasonic SD formatter program. Install it on your PC and format your SD card with that program. It works like a charm for me always.
try to search SDFormatterv3.0, very good prog

[Q] Android can't see MicroSD card

As said, Android can't see my SD. I have CleanDroid installed on NAND.
When I insert the SD in the phone, appears an icon on the top that says "Now it's possible to remove the SD safely". If i remove the SD it says that it's removed, and when i reinsert it, again "Now it's possible to remove the SD safely". Obviously i can't install apps in the sd through "APP2SD", can't use Waze cuz it says that doesn't find the SD card in the phone, the same appears with the camera that tells that if i want use camera i need to insert an SD. BUT THE SD IS STILL THERE!!! what do I wrong with it?
I tried to change my 8GB SD with a friend's 2GB SD... but still the same. I tried to go in Settings, Memory, "Install SD" too, but it only tells again that i can remove the sd safely...WHAT THE HELL I WROOOOOOONG?!?!?!?! xD
EDIT: I forgot, i tried to change the ROM too, tried about 5-6 different ROMs but it still doesn't work...
Did you try formatting with Panasonic formatter?
You're just inserting the SD card right? You're not pressing amount SD card in settings right?
Its look your cards r not compatible with HD2 card reader. I had same issue with about 3 or 4 cards.
The best way is to use genuine SanDisk cards !

hi guys, there is an update: today i woke up and tried again to insert an sd card. If it's formatted in NTFS or in exFat it says "The SD is damaged. Do u want to try to format?". So i answer yes, it formats the card and then says again the same thing "The SD is damaged. Do u....". From there whatever SD i will insert wont work cuz it will say the same thing. If i try to insert a 2GB Sandisk SD it wont work, the same for my 8GB Kingston and everything else. If i flash again the ROM (the same or another) it tells only that I can safely remove the SD card...BUT I DON'T WANT TO REMOVE IT! I WANT TO USE IT!!! xD so i think my problem is something like a "loop". The telephone remembers his last one choiche and whatever I will do it will give me the same response for every SD. If I format it will be the same...
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I'M THE ONLY ONE PERSON WITH THIS FU*** PROBLEM???
I sometimes have this problem - it sometimes does what you describe or says that the card is Damaged.
The only way i've found to fix this issue is to format the Card on a Linux machine - i have a laptop that i can dual boot with Ubuntu - i remove the partitions on the card and format it fresh to NTFS using the Disk Tools in Ubuntu and it works a charm every time....
Hope this helps - it is a bit of an annoying issue!
Cheers

damaged sd

I just switched from a 2.2 version of android to a gingerbread version on my hd2. The problem I am having is that now my phone says SD card damaged. It worked on my old version and is Able to be read when I'm in magldr and use USB mass storage but not on this android. I tried to format in android that didn't work and tried formatting with windows. I don't understand why it can be read sometimes but not others but would appreciate it if someone could help me get this to work or atleast get it to reformat so can be used. Thanks
What exact ROM are you using? Were you running any partitions(EXT3/EXT4).
Gpc_hd2_gingerbread_v1.7
No partitions
what did you use to try and format it in windows? search in the forum for the panasonic sd formatter or google it if you haven't tried using it already.
I have not tried the Panasonic SD formatter I will give it a try at work since my computer is down for the time being. What is the difference between that program and the windows formatting program though?
In simple terms, one does it better than the other.

You also have to consider d possibility dat ur sd card is losing it gradually...My previous 8GB sd card works flawlessly on WinMo but whenever i flash an android build (tried several, same result), it works 4 awhile then mounts as read only or as ur described, sd damaged...a quick 4mat wit panasonic sd formatter wakes it back only for it 2 repeat d process....
I bought another sd card and haven't had any issues wit it watsoever...my old 8gb card still works but i guess its 2 weak for android's constant reading & writing.
Im having the same problem. Card works fine in everything but Android on HD2, NAND not SD Rom.
Ive formatted form Windows but i'll try the Panasonic one as well. If not would a 16GB card be compatible or would it be too big?
The size isn't a problem as long as your phone supports it. Just make sure you format the correct ext size partitions etc...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
Is there a guide/thread explaining how I go about creating ext size partitions on SD cards & what size etc?
I run off a NAND ROM if that makes any difference?
Sorry i'm new to Android!
I tried the Panasonic formatter but it still says damaged SD. Still works in mass storage mdgrl or whatever it is. And asks to be formatted when I try to use it in XP

You should avoid using mass storage in MAGLDR.

[Q] CM7 on SD Card (nook Color) - PC asks to format

Hi - need some help! I have a nook color, and flashed the CM7 (7.0.2) to SD card, using verygreen's instructions. All instalation went OK in NC, but when i put the SD back in the PC to copy the GApps, the PC pops a message saying that I have to format the card to make it usable. Any ideas on how to avoid this, or am i missing something?
u need to partion ext7 of ur sd card...try it through CW....then dl gapps
Hi Kitila thanks for your reply. Could you pls provide some more detail on how to do it? I'm a bit new in all this and am afraid i might mess something up. Thanks!
CM7 on SD Card (Nook Color) - PC asks to format card for GApps
Hi,
I am having this exact same problem. I have tried to search for an answer, but only found this thread. Unfortunately, as a noob, I am also having trouble understanding what the one reply means.
The issue: I am able to put the CM7 on my 16GB sandisk microsd card. I am able to put the nightly on the microsd card. I then can get CM7 to load nicely on my Nook Color. However, when I then remove the sd card from the Nook Color and put it back in the computer in order to install GApps, I get a message telling me that I need to format the SD card. As I understand it, formatting the SD card will erase the CM7.
Can anyone walk me through (or point to a walk though of) a fix for this problem.
Thank you in advance. This is such a valuable resource.
Dan
Try using a USB card reader.
Cheers,
kev

Use of English would be nice!
Thanks much, Kev. Do you think that's it? Weird. I'll need to pick up a USB reader tomorrow. I'll report back.
Thanks!
Dan
Kev,
That worked. Thanks so much!
For those in the future that are having problems with their computer wanting to format the microsd card every time it is inserted, try using a usb microsd card reader instead of the slot in the computer.
Thanks!
Dan

[Q] Issues with SD Card not mounting on CM10

Hi guys, long time reader and first time poster here with a question. I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered, but I have searched throughout the nook forums and have not found a solution yet to my problem and any help is greatly appreciated.
I have been wanting to use CM10 as my daily driver on my nook for awhile now, however everytime I flash the ROM and get things set up, I run into an issue where the ROM does not consider my SD card to be mounted. I have adjusted the settings to be set to Mass USB Storage as one person suggested in the development thread, I have formatted it numerous times to try to see if that was causing the issue, and so far nothing has worked.
I know that the SD card that is in my nook is good as it shows up in ICS without any problems. Does anyone else have any idea on what I could try to get the SD card to mount properly in CM10?
Thanks again for any help, and many apologies if this is answered in another thread.

When you say mounted, you mean you cannot see it under storage devices within CM10? It does not show up in your file manager? That USB mass storage setting is just for seeing on your PC when you plug the USB cable in. It has nothing to do with seeing the card in CM10. And you tried formatting several times you said. How did you format it? In the PC with windows? You need to try SDFormatter which is a free windows program on the web. Other users have said that that makes them show up on the Nook. When the nook first starts up, it tries to read the SD and scan it, if it can't, it won't mount it. There could be something very simple wrong with the card that the nook sees and your PC does not.

Leap,
I have to apologize, I used the wrong terminology in my original post. It seems that the issue I am having is with the SD card being stuck in RO mode and not being able to write to it from CM10. Anything that I have tried to download via the Play Store fails to install with an error saying that it could not install to USB Storage or SD Card. I have formatted the card via Windows, CWM, and using the SDFormatter program to no avail. I have also tried to fix permissions via CWM and Rom Manager and that has not resulted in resolving the issue that I seem to be having. I love the speed at which CM10 runs, and if I can get the SD Card to be RW it would easily replace the ICS build that I've been using forever now, I just don't know what else I can try to get the card to be RW while running CM10.

The problem is CM10 is very finicky about the format on the card. If it does not like it, it mounts it read only. Look for SDFormatter on the web and format with that. Should fix it.
Edit, I just reread and said you tried that. That should have fixed it. Do it again but turn off quick format.

Leap,
Thank you for all the help you've provided, however it doesn't seem that doing a long format with overwrite in SD Formatter got it to work. I'm going to retreat back to ICS for now.

Just a question, after you format the card, do you move any files in it? I had the same exact problem and it must have been a defective file in my titanium backup folder because I had no problem using the same sd when I synch'd titanium via dropbox.
I installed the 19/11 nightly and it is better than anything I ever run on nook. even CM7
Tschumi,
After I finish formatting it via SD Formatter, I place it back into the nook completely blank and reboot the nook. After that, I try to download anything from the play store that requires SD install and it fails to install.

Use ROM Manager and select "Format SD card" which will allow apps to install. Nook will reboot into CWM and begin formatting SD card. Be FOREWARNED! You will lose anything you have stored on the SD card so make a backup and trasnsfer to your PC or somewhere you can later retrieve.
Ok so here's an update on this issue for me. It appears that no matter how many times I used SD Formatter to format my 16Gb micro sd card, it would not be recognized by CM10. I grabbed an old 8Gb micro SD card and threw it in my nook and it worked perfectly, so it appears that there's an underlying issue with the card itself that was causing the problems. Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice on how to fix this issue for me. I appreciate it.

I am having the same issue with my 16GB Patriot microSD card. The card is recognized, but always displays as full (26GB used) in the settings menu. I have reformatted numerous times to no avail. I have an old 4GB card in there now with no issues.

It is that Patriot brand and CM10. CM10 is very finicky about sdcards. If it does not like how one performs, it changes it to read only. You can try formatting the card with SDFormatter, which you can get free on the web. That may help, but it may not.
