Well after almost a week with the new Sprint Nexus-S 4G, I plan to return it and get my EVO going again. My EVO was rooted with the best Sense based ROM, "Myn's RS 5" I still think the EVO 4G is one of the better smartphones on the market ( if rooted, and good ROM installed ) even a year after it's release, and the EVO-3D should be even better yet.
I wanted the Nexus for the lightweight form factor, and easy fit in pocket...beautiful screen...and better battery life.
Well a week later I can NOT stand "vanilla" Android, didn't realize how much I took "Sense UI" for granted, basic Android feels so, uh basic, and years outdated. I mean come on the default Voice mail is to call a phone # to access messages, lol that's from the 90's man. The dialer and contacts also seem super basic and like iPhone1 or Android 1.5, and the default e-mail for non gmail is horrible, the standard e-mail widget on the EVO is perfect, and ten million times better.
So many things on "vanilla" Android just seems to be done so poorly and outdated, makes me wonder what people like about ? I know it is meant to be tweaked and played with, and add all your own custom apps and widgets, but that is stupid to me, that is just saying stock Android sucks.
Plus the battery life on my Nexus-S is not stellar like expected, sure it is better than my EVO, but barely, and the screen is actually harder to see outside in the sunlight.
Will go back to my EVO 4G, and upgrade to the EVO-2 ( 3d ), can only imagine a Myn's based ROM on that beast, with Android 2.3...dual cores...1gb memory...4gb storage...higher res screen...
Only thing I don't like on the EVO is it's thick and bulky size, it is borderline just too heavy, and big, not the 4.3" screen, I mean look at the new Galaxy S-2, that is 4.3 but super thin and lightweight, wish HTC could slim it down a bit.
Opinions ?
To each their own, I guess. I haven't tried the Nexus and don't plan to get one. I'm holding out hope we'll get we'll get the Galaxy S 2. I prefer AOSP over Sense. Sense feels gaudy to me and forces an aesthetic I don't care for. I like a lean, minimalistic approach that I can customize and make my own.
Either way. Welcome back.
You know you can put different ROMs on the Nexus S right?
I won't go with the Nexus S because it doesn't have a notification led [RETARDED] and because it's a minor bump from the Evo [not worth the loss of an upgrade] but it seems like most of your issue is the ROM itself.
Unfortunately, I read on the EVO 3D forum that if Myn can't get his hands on an EVO 3D for the upgrade price, he probably won't be devving for it. He technically doesn't qualify for an upgrade yet I believe.
So...hey, donate some money so he can buy one I guess or figure out a way to get him one for the upgrade price.

That's what Myn's ROM "Warmtwopointtwo" is for, it is still "Sense" based, but gets rid of all the crapware and bloatware, and streamlines everything in the background, just keeping the core "Sense" stuff. It is a very clean and stripped down look, and then can still be themed and customized to your hearts content.

hmm...I am surprised on this forum, there isn't a Sprint rep that can cut Myn a deal, get him one for the upgrade price and not pay full retail ? I thought after one year you can upgrade to a new phone by renewing on a new 2yr contract and get the phone for the $199 price ? And usually most people have a $150 gift certificate by staying with Sprint after like 10 months, I know I got one.

So whats the best AOSP ROM ? CM 7 ?
Wish Cyanogen 7 was ready for the Nexus-S 4G, but they say have to wait for CM 7.1 that has official support for 2.3.4 that is on the Sprint Nexus-S.
I also got the nexus s two days ago and to be honest I love it. It a lot slimmer and lighter than the evo and it actually does not feel like its bulky in the pocket. The screen it very nice, but at times it seems a little oversaturated. Even thou it's got a 5mp camera it takes great pics and the video recording it's pretty good as well, granted it's not recording at 720p. Overall I am really enjoying a smaller phone ( didn't realize the evo was so massive compared to other phones) and hope that sprint gets a dual core 4 inch phone. I was saving my upgrade for the evo 3d but after having the nexus s I might just keep this and skip the evo 3d. Hopefully there will be a nexus 3 by the end of the year?? who knows.
in caparison to the evo;
...stock vanilla is just fine for me, straight to the point. Battery has lasting longer than the evo, nexus s does not have notification led but there is an app called "noled" which has been working just fine, love the phone design.
To be honest the evo is capable of doing everything i ever needed from a phone, and so does the nexus s ( but better for gaming) but with new and bigger tech coming out every 6months you always feel like you "need" the latest. So far the thing I'm really enjoying about the nexus is the size, it feels like the perfect size.

I've been using Deck's AOSP rom. There's a link to it in the Android Development forums. I use 1.0 because GB 2.3.4 roms have a MMS issue. I use Savages Zen BFS 2.1.0. You may like it.
CM7 has been unusually shaky, consider their track record. I have hope 7.1 will being more stable than the past releases.

I agree. CM is the only thing that makes AOSP any good. Without it, it does kinda suck. Unfortunately, CM hasn't been very good for me since CM6, forcing me to go back to Sense.

Try putting a Sense based ROM or UI on my Nexus-S, there is only one that I know of, and it is in beta, with a lot of features still not working. Don't know of any other "Sense UI" for the Nexus-S ?
Nice thing with Sense based phones, is they get the Sense ROM's of course, but also can easily install the AOSP ROM's too.
Watch this good hands on video of the new EVO 3D, mainly showing off Sense 3.0, which I what I wanted to see more of, I could give two ****s about the 3D on the phone. Actually I wish Sprint sold two versions, the "Sensation" non 3D version is slightly thinner, but exact same hardware.
But Sense 3.0 looks very ncie

Eh, it's only boring if you have no imagination and/or no ability to make things how you want them.
Vanilla android does one thing nicely, that's let you do anything you want. ADW and themes is a great example of that. I'm on AOSP right now and here's my homescreen, you may not like it, but if you don't think you could have made it how you wanted then you just didn't want to try. This is why we like Android over iOS, because we have freedom of expression, not conformity to look like everyone else's.

http://googlewatch.eweek.com/content/android_vs_iphone/google_exec_hints_at_why_nexus_one_was_leapfrogged_by_htc_incredible_evo_4g.html
"Nexus One isn't a failure so much as a casualty of the success of the next wave of Android smartphones. In a few months, I'm sure we'll be saying the same things about the Incredible and the Evo 4G."
Some people may be bothered with this, but I am happy with my Nexus One. I have no buyers remorse.
I don't view my N1 as obsolete in any way at all and am quite happy with it, it's no worse than the Incredible and all aspects of the device ooze performance
phones are starting to become like computers now. as soon as you buy one a new and better one comes out tomorrow.
and what sucks about is...you're suck with a 2 year contract.
So adding two features equals "leapfrogged" now?
What a load of crap. Who has FroYo now? Yeah, that's what I thought.
I always f*cking hate these posts. I really don't want to hear doom and gloom.
Definitely don't feel any remorse.
My phone is JUST as good as the ones that are coming out NOW.
Yea, 8MP cam + dual flash, but cmon, the pictures are hardly better.
Plus the nexus LOOKS better than both of those.

SERIOUSLY, people are rediculous....... I stayed with DDR400 until DDR32000 came out because it was a serious step up...... There is nothing that screams "OH MY GOD INNOVATION" about either phone..... My next phone will be when my Nexus no longer has the NAND capacity for the current Android version. I love my Nexus
i'm with mortzz on this one. we have a phone that we can do whatever we want to do to it. i'd MUCH rather have this. i'm on the fence about the evo, but until we can get real system access (yeah, i saw the root article, but i'll believe it when i see it), custom ROM's, etc, i'll stick with the N1. which, btw, is STILL the sexiest phone i've ever seen. girl i'm seeing has the incredible, and...no thanks. not in comparison. it's a nice phone, if you have to have verizon. but, i don't
i do however have to get a sprint device. so...i may have to break contract with tmo and get the evo. otherwise, my school is going to stick me with the freaking touch pro 2 as my pager. lord what a step back that will be. but, at least if i take that, i can keep my N1
Uh. What?
Incredible and Evo won't get FroYo until the end of this year.
How about we come back to this article then so we can point and laugh?
Having root >>>> anything else.
Have any high-end phones since the Nexus achieved full root? I mean cracked bootloader and all. Desire, Legend, new Droids - none have the kind of access we do. Heck, we may have the best fully root-able hardware HTC will ever release.
I dont think the Incredible is any better than the N1, i've played witht he incredible and it feels cheap plastic like and the camera sucks as well. I like the feel of the N1 and like the looks of it. The Evo is a whole different story...

They have "root" meaning they have su permissions. AFAIK they don't have write permissions to the partitions, so it's pretty worthless.
Only thing i regret about my Nexus One is that apparently the Desire and Incredible both have touchscreens that fixed the multitouch issues.
Other than that the idea of having basically a google developement phone surpasses any of the other current phones, maybe when we see a decent hardware upgrade, then it will be a different story, but hopefully Google continues to make new Nexus phones.

That is sad. So they have the same MT issue as us, a much smaller dev front, usb-bricking issues while flashing roms, no full solution for being rooted/unlocked...took htc ages to release the kernel...they won't see froyo for ages (officially).
Not much to be ... wait for it... desired

How many points does a Galaxy register again? I'm guessing more than 2
In the UK, the N1/Desire is still the King. Desire = UK incredible, but is LITERALLY an N1, and I doubt we will ever see the Evo here [not even a whisp of 4g network].
Even if they did, all the incredible has is the less buggy touch matrix, although this has been nicely 'fixed' in froyo. The evo is a different breed of phone, id never buy it purely based on the fact that i like thinks to fit in my pocket xD
Until I see a snapgradon 1.3+, 1GB RAM, a TRUE 8mp+ cam, froyo, new gen OLED/better, my N1 can sleep with my girl any day.
that makes two of us i love man I LOVE MY NEXUS ONE

haha my friend was a tad jealous of me. he has the Hero and i like his sense ui. but the minute froyo came out, i installed it. i showed him how i can play hulu, i showed him that i got live wallpapers (of course he doesn't have 2.1) and the rest of the froyo goodness. and outta jealousy, he was like "oh well im gonna get a phone thats better than that. im give to get the Evo 4G that has everything the nexus one has and more, including Android 2.2" and i was like "riiiiight. just like the hero was supposed to (officially) get 2.1 right?" and he stood quiet lol idk about all of you guys but i don't really care for 2 led lights. im good with just one. as for 4G, i like to have the freedom to switch between my N1, my BB Curve 8310, and my iPhone 3GS with the simple swap of a SIM card so im great with my Sexy Nexy
I'm still in the market for a new phone, and had my heart set on the Epic from the start. However, when I started delving deeper into the different phones, I started feeling apprehensive toward the Epic.
Why I want it:
Video/picture quality seems better than the other phones I was looking at
5row QWERTY
Non-smudgy back plate
Good stock SD card
Super AMOLED
Why I'm apprehensive toward it:
It's running 2.1 and people think Samsung is abandoning the phone
Ideally, I wanted a 4 or 4.3in display
To get 2.2 and faster speeds, I'd have to use a ROM -- I have no idea how to do it, and I also don't like the themes most of the community ROMs have.
The other phones I was interested in were the EVO 4g, the Nexus S, the Droid X, and maybe another Galaxy S phone.
So, my question to the Epic 4g community: How do you like the phone? Have you tried any of the other phones I've listed? Am I going to get shafted by Samsung and never get a 2.2 update, or is it just as easy to flash the leaked 2.2?
I lovemy epic. Greatest phone I've had. It does everything I want. I got the epic to future proof myself.
Itsvery easy to flash the leaked froyo. You don't even gotta be rooted! Also, theleaked froyo is bascally a release candidate, being almost complete but still lacking little things like bluetooth audio out.
If those are the phones on our short list, get the epic. When samsung finally releases official final froyo, those phones will have nothing on the epic.
If you can't wait for froyo, then a5least get a new dualcore phone so you can be sure you won't be left behind

Agreed. The epic is absolutely fantastic. Even on 2.1 it's vastly better than the evo, which my girlfriend has. The nexus s however looks great and if that was on sprint it'd be a toss up for me. Don't listen to all the nay saying going on right now. Samsung easily had the best camera, screens and processor combo available for the current gen. Once you go oled it'd be hard to go back. I just recently flashed the new trulyepic 1.2 rom and imo, that's the way to go right now if want froyo. Runs fantastic.

Well the first question I'd have for you is what carrier are you looking at? Because you just listed a bunch of phones in the OP that are on different carriers. As far as the Epic is concerned, I love it ... it has a LOT of issues, including Samsung's Froyo delay that you mentioned, but it's still one of the fastest phones out there (with a kick ass GPU mind you). Again, it depends on what you need. If you don't need QWERTY, then you might want to look at the Evo as that is one of the best supported phones on the market (in terms of the dev community).

The carrier isn't important to me. It relies solely on the phone -- although, I think Sprint has one of the cheapest plans.
If trade my epic for a nexus s any day... The screen on both if my epics became loose after weeks and I harshly use the keyboard anyway

I guess it really depends on what you are coming from. I was a die hard blackberry user.... *throws up a bit* came directly to and specifically waited for the epic after seeing several inferior android phones but knew it was where I wanted to settle once I was able to dig deeper helping a few friends mod.
Point being if it will be the first phone of this caliber, I think you will love the epic and there is no reason not to in most cases as the phone is blazing, couple it with some of the mods from the devs here.... it will be sweet. That being said, the same would likely apply to most of the other phones in your list.

Only if you want a keyboard. I think that's all the Epic has over the Evo at this point. Yes it's faster, yes the screen is better, but.. Samsung support is terrible, while 2.1 runs fine and there are 2.2 leaks its still a sorry state to be in for a "flagship" phone.
IF you're interested in Roms.. go with an HTC. While the Evo is running a 98% functional CM7 and MIUI, and (Insert popular rom name here), the Epic's (while the developers are all awesome! This is NOT a knock) are more or less just customizations and ported applications with a breakthrough here and there such as EXT4.
Samsung is absolutely ridiculous "#neveragain". The keyboard skips letters, the GPS is moody and only works when it wants to, updates are pretty much MIA. Yes the epic is a little bit faster, with a more colorful screen, but at what cost.
Thanks to the Skippy keyboard I've become a professional on the onscreen keyboards and am highly considering a Evo off of Ebay while I can still sell the Epic for more. Maybe that gives you an idea of what it's like to own a Samsung.
</endrant> All rants aside... it's not a bad phone by any stretch of the imagination. Samsung is just better at products that don't need much support after release... like TV's...
The epic (galaxy s phone) has the best diplay and fastest GPU on the market as of posting this.

Ok. This makes me furious.
Cyanogenmod Hauwei Ascend
It's a 600 mhz processor. By a no-named manufacturer. WHAT THE H#*&??
Cyanogenmod can run on this android 2.1-flaunting pos and we can't have it? My bestfriends super crappy phone makes my phone look like crap because of the os. The Epic's got the hardware, but no software to match. Don't get me wrong, the devs here have worked MIRACLES on this phone. And the only thing holding me back from pawning whatever I can find for an evo is the amazing roms (frankenstein and anonymous, im looking at you) and the superbly friendly and miracle-working devs (Rodderik, ecooce, computerkid23, MysteryEmotionz, k0nane, chris41g, asdfghjkl, DRockstar, TexasEpic4G, qbking77, flimsy888, forgive me if I left you out).
Guess I'm just jealous that such a beast of a phone can't compare to such a pos of a phone.
*RANT OVER*
It shipped with AOSP android so it wasn't too much of a stretch to port Cyanogenmod onto it. One of the hardest parts of porting CM is getting an AOSP kernel that boots (part of what took the EPIC so long to reach where it is now).
I have CM7 on my Nook Color. It is nice but it's not a game changer, and stuff broke in some nightlies. Having working Netflix would be great but Epic screen is too small vs a tablet. ACS does it for me just fine, and whenever CM7, GB, AOSP makes its way to us it will make an already great phone better - but only that much.
Seriously? Even in stock form, the Epic still kicks ass. Tell me if CM can play ALL the codecs the Epic does? How about the performance of the camera? The Samsung camera is really pretty good. Can that phone play games made for the Tegra 2? I know the Epic can. CM would be great, but it's not the end all, be all. From a performance standpoint, CM is fast, but even it's missing some things that the Epic already has built in.
Oh trust me, I know. It's amazing even stock. But its like a car, you want the better parts for the best performance. And that amazing brand new engine won't fit in our car (idk alot about cars). It's also one of those "we do it because we can" things. It's a slap in the face to see it on these type of phones and not our epic.
At this point CM is very over-hyped. Would it be nice to have? Yes. Is it going to make the phone suck if we don't get it? No. The way people are making it out to be is like this will completely transform the phone.
I suspect when the Epic finally does get CM we will finally be done with the "where is CM?!" threads and flooded with the "this is it?!" threads.
It's not just Cyanogenmod. Its also MIUI and plain old AOSP. The epic is pretty amazing, but being able to say I can't run CM7 or MIUI makes me think twice about it actually being an evo-killer.
Personally, I will continue to run touchwiz roms even after cyanogen. Unless cm can make a serious enough difference in my battery stats to warrant removing tw and its features(which I find very useful).
cd's or tapes?

Maybe CM7 isn't so different from what we use now but I just put MIUI on my sister's vibrant and believe me it's a BIG deal.
In a perfect world, I would have the newest official MIUI on my Epic with Wimax support both on my phone and actually available in my area. I hope some day to get to see a couple of those.
Official Gingerbread Kernel source needs to drop now.
HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE RAN CM7, because let me tell you I miss it greatly from my Evo, LOVE LOVE LOVE my Epic but seriously CM7 is where its at...Yes I like caps.
I'm intrigued by what I hear about CM7, but MIUI does not get my attention one bit. If I wanted my phone to look and act like an iPhone I probably would have bought an iPhone (and then promptly turned my man card in and spent the rest of my days settling for whatever the turtleneck told me was the best).
That being said, I don't care that these aren't available for the Epic. SRF is super fast and I haven't found any bugs to date. I get less FC's on my phone now than I did with the stock phone.
where to begin? cm is nice and having the option is nicer. but seriously its not some awe inspiring monolith of human achievement. the reason why cm7 looks so great on htc devices is because they need the speedup over sense.
as for miui, i too have taken great pleasure in bashing it, but recently i gave it a whirl and i have to say i am VERY impressed. the features present in that rom i hope someday make it into cm7. the customization you can do with such ease is amazing. the music app even blows away googles newest one.. (i mean cmon who doesnt like auto lyric lookups? ) contact management is a breeze and even syncs properly with facebook (something i cant get cm7 to do). alas the current version of miui lacks 4g and has a call bug where the call is muted (version 1.7.8) for the nexus s 4g. so im back to cm7 for now, til dreamsforgotten ports those lockscreen mods

I think there's more to life than software and operating systems. I'm very satisfied with what the devs have come up with for the Epic. The phone is fast, user-friendly, and easy on the battery. My buddy, who has an Evo, wishes he had my camera and super AMOLED. We're both stormchasers and are too cheap to buy real cameras. Mine takes noticeably better pictures on all settings. I guess it depends on what is important to you.
these types of posts make me furious.
These devs aren't going to waste their time building from scratch what they'll be able to piece together with a source release.
CyanogenMod is great and all, but try some other roms before you get all crazy angry. Do some research!
I am running my epic with SyndicateRomFrozen and the Genocide Kernel. I'm getting quadrant scores through the roof, and my Epic is a dream phone now.
CM7 will get to us. Until then, do something. Research. Flash. Experiment. Stop flaming start being proactive.
My display, camera, and audio quality trump anything that CM7 or MIUI brings that would make me want to switch to another Sprint phone right now.
After 3 years, I think I am going to renew my contract with Sprint and get the HTC Evo 4G LTE. According to a pole here, it looks like 8 others of us are as well. Who's going? If you can but aren't, why aren't you?
I'm going.
I just flashed nfinitefx's Sprint RUU on my Hero to get reacquainted with Sense hahaha.
Happy for you guys. Im going to the GS3 just seems all around better, HTC has been dropping the ball lately and sense gets boring fast time to try something new. EVO LTE is ok but battery life and no removable battery, no sd card slot, and HTC just kills the phone for me.
I'm going as well. Hopefully they ship the preorders today.

The Evo LTE does have an sd card slot, and most of the (albeit early) reviews are reporting excellent battery life, in line with the other One X phones.
I was deciding between the GS3 and this phone.
I'm going to assume that the Sprint GS3 is gonna have the S4. If so, then the two things that the GS3 does better than the EVO LTE doesn't is the removable battery and a better camera.
The rest of the features of the S3 are gimmicky at most, smart stay is the only feature that I liked.
EVO LTE has better design, better screen, dedicated camera button (ME GUSTA), and a nicer UI.
But if Sprint gets the Quad-core version, then all bets are off D:
Interesting...first I considered the HTC EVO 3D, which many of us Hero's went to. Then I decided to wait for the HTC EVO 4G LTE, which I guess many of us are going to now too.
sorry to see you guys go, but hopefully if you still want to mess with your hero's from time to time there will be a group of us holdouts still working on things. i know ill be here until at least this coming fall when i get extra cash to buy a new phone.

Yea, I'll probably flash ROMs here and there.
Still hoping for a stable ICS ROM for the Hero

How has HTC been dropping the ball? I have a friend with the Galaxy I (epic I think) and was super disappointed in Samsung support, and only relatively recently got cyanogen. Plus, I was planning on the galaxy nexus, but by the time it came to sprint, it was already old. Wouldn't be surprised if the S3 is the same. And obviously this hero has done well for me, and my friend's evo 3D is like a tank. Furthermore, I like HTC's gesture of allowing bootloader unlocking (not that I will use their's).

Im not defending the Galaxy 1 but your talking two years ago the S2 has ICS. EVO3D was just an Evo with updated camera i know people who have a GS2 and EVO 3D and the GS2 beats EVO hands down. As far as support i have a lot of samsung products and never had a problem in that department. Support for my phone doesnt matter since im on here if i needed help with anything. Lets be honest most people getting the LTE are going to flash a new rom without sense anyway so why get a sense phone. Its nice and all but I like the less intrusive touchwiz. Just a matter of opinion if the S3 isnt quadcore then i might have to look at the EVO LTE
I'm seriously considering the new EVO LTE as well. My only concern is 1) Going back to Sense after loving aosp on my hero for the last 1.5 year and 2) the size of the phone.
I'm not sure there's any getting away from the phone size, though. The only other viable option in my mind is the GNex and its almost as big. As far as going back to Sense and not being able to flash ROMs right away, i'll just have to deal with that until some awesome dev on here figures out how to crack it. That's the main reason i'm still considering the GNex. The ROM options are already pretty sweet for that. But, it seems clearly inferior in most of its specs to the LTE.
I'm going. Will still pop in here every so often, though.

I woulnd't worry about the EVO LTE having a lack of developers. Most of the OG Evo devs (including some that used to be here) are definitely getting it.
Hell, regaw already posted a ROM for the phone, and it's not even out yet lol

Supposedly it isn't quite as bad - and from what I've seen, the UI is closer to stock than older versions of Sense, in a good way. On the other hand, there are still downsides to it, like the overaggressive memkill settings HTC put in, which make it tough to do true multitasking, along with the large - smaller, but still large - memory requirements. I've always liked Sense, though, and the memkill settings are easily fixed once root is attained.
I'm getting the EVO LTE, as long as Customs doesn't find heroin or anything in the shipment to further delay it. The Hero has been great. It was first Android phone so it will always hold a special place in my heart. But I've been ready for a "superphone" since a week after I bought my Hero. The EVO LTE is going to have top notch dev's, mod's, rom's and support. There is no question in my mind that EVO LTE community will out shine the GS3 community.
Yeah, I was anticipating the HTC EVO 4G LTE and I found out about the U.S. Customs delay. I was like oh no..., but now I find out that I have to wait longer because we're under some Sprint Wireless Advantage Club and it's essentially an employee account and they get phones a lot later to make way for customers...so I have to wait like a month or two. It depends. I can't wait until I can get the phone though.
I wish you all luck with the Evo LTE. One thing I noticed about people that buy HTC phones is that they seem to want to root and put AOSP on there HTC phones to replace sense . People do the same with samsung but not as much as large as HTC phone owners. Its as if you guys know sense is a memory hog and is pointless yet you'll still buy the phone.
I also am leaving the Hero but for the Galaxy S3, also the hero was my first android experience. Honestly sense has been around since windows mobile 6.1, but back then it was called touch flow. Not too much has changed just eats more memory now and looks a lot nicer. The battery life on these HTC phones is bad to simply put it and im not talking about people on these forums. I used an HTC sensation it went from 100% to about 30 in 4 hours. All im stating is a matter of opinion I could be wrong but thes are just my experiences with HTC.

Sense 4.0 is beautiful. I much prefer it over AOSP ICS IMHO. Even Sense 3.6 is aesthetically appealing. Not much of a lag due to the 1GB RAM in this phone. My battery life is wonderful and I spend all sending hundreds of texts a day, checking xda and constantly checking facebook.

I agree with dastin. Sense has gone through a lot of changes but it gets better with each version. I've been running Sense 3.6(Mean ROM) too on my evo 3D and it runs great.

Anyone care to speculate if HTC is feeling pressure to put a One on the play store?
Assuming the criteria would be:
-unlocked bootloader
-Stock Android
-Small price reduction (or price match to Dev edition 650)
Personally this woul be a very very good option for a Canadian such as myself. The One is definitely my first choice but Samsung is doing such a good job at luring me in with the things I value. HTC only seems to go half way, especially since Samsung just raised the bar and went full android, so to speak.
Speculate away!

I don't think HTC feels anything like that. As many people said, S4 nexus is expensive for many people and its not like everyone wants stock android. It'll be directed to a certain group of customers.
I definitely agree that a stock S4 is for a very select group of people. I'm not sure how that is too much of a deterrent for HTC... actually I don't understand HTC's actions at all. They always go halfway, it's like the marketing/lawyering departments have the leadership by the balls... Sort of like when the wife lets you buy a new sports car but she only approves small block engines that are sporty. Not the same thing at all!!
How much does it cost HTC or Samsung to strip and maintain a phone to AOSP?
I can't imagine the HTC One with out Sense 5. It makes it for me (as well as the build etc).

I agree, I will chose Sense 5 over stock any day. Now if it was Sense 4.1 or touchwiz I can understand wanting it gone, but Sense 5 is so great IMO. I wouldn't mind the option, but things like camera (getting the image chip to work with pure android) and battery life seems to be what always keeps my HTC phone away from the pure android feel.
I have used plenty of HTC phones in the past and most of them had some form of HTC sense on them, and i have always preferred sense over stock. My last device was a nexus 4 which was pure aosp, and while it was definitely not bad, i found myself wanting sense on it all the time. I get that people have their own preferences, but htc builds their devices around sense and optimises sense to use on their hardware. I don't think HTC would release a aosp version. It would be nice if it did because we would get updates faster, but i don't see that happening anytime soon.
I read an article yesterday about some HTC Employee who tweeted something along the lines of "You can pay $649 for a cheap bit f plastic...or you could wait " Maybe HTC has something already in the works?
*EDIT* Found another article stating that HTC have denied rumours that they will be releasing a "Nexus" HTC One.

^^ This. I feel releasing an aosp SIV especially not under the Nexus moniker is nothing more then another attempt to saturate the market and artificially inflate sales numbers. I think for that tiny community who doesnt root an aosp out of the box is a viable option. Look at our community though, we have aokp, cm, pa and all that jazz. For the larger community of rooters and flashers it just seems redundant to me.

I have been using AOSP on all my devices since the very beginning, but for some reason i find myself really enjoying sense, i tried flashing CM10 but i did not like it =/ im just going to patiently wait for sense 5.1 4.2.2
I mean you could just get the dev edition and put cm10 on it, will take 5 minutes to flash

I would like to add that putting something on the play store increases online availability dramatically. It's generally difficult to buy unlocked cell phones online without paying an extra premium. Especially if you don't live in the US! Yes there are ways but the party store is very accessible and hassle free. As a Canadian this is a huge plus. Just look at how many of us are screaming to get access to a Dev edition.
I've had to spend over 100 bucks in services for the privilege of doing so and then warranty suddenly becomes a huge issue. This is a huge reason the S4 is appealing as a person who doesn't do contracts.
I didn't like AOSP on my HTC One, for some reason sense is so freakin smooth and the eco system is amazing.

Maybe I should give sense a try... I'm seriously hooked on AOKP though... The level of customization is superior to none! Or maybe I an missing something.
Pretty much that is my end game desire. HTC one with 64GB and AOKP ponies.
I should apologize! Apparently the xperia Z pushed to aosp long before the S4. This really make me consider HTC stepping up to the plate as a real possibility since all the kids on the block are doing it.
Throwing it into the play store might not happen though.
