Hello Xoomers!! Motorola announced that they are releasing Honeycomb 3.1 to Xoom Wifi owners starting today in phases. I believe the updates are based on your MAC addresses on your Xooms, this was what I was told (sources withheld) but I can not confirm this 100%. Anyway, we should start seeing a steady rollout of updates as there have been no issues with the updates with Xoom 3g owners. Please be sure to thank me
Fingers crossed!!
Forgot to mention, the official WIfi only version of 3.1 does NOT contain the Movie tab in the marketplace. No biggie to me, but it will be released sometime later.
I hope this is true bc u have no idea how happy just seeing this post made me lol.
Is ut only the US version of wifi-only that will start to get the update?
How about the European version? Will it start to roll out to us to?
Can only find info that people with the US version have got it. What about we with Eu version,

LOL..I pissed my pants while typing it I was so happy! But yes I have confirmation fro other Wifi owners who have received the update this morning EST. Also there has been official word on the update being released to wifi users. I cant wait to see the popup on my xoom. Remember though, its in phases, so please be patient people. Also, 3.1 does not fix the slowness in auto rotate because this is not a google problem, its an issue with the Xoom models which should be patched soon(again sources withheld) may have something to do with increasing the cache but again Im not 100% sure on this. Good luck!!

FRom what I was informed, it only appears that the US versions will start receiving updates today, there seems to be some confusion on when the Euro and Canadian models will receive the updates...sorry
Got my OTA this morning on my Wi-Fi Xoom in US.
Kinda ticked off that we Wi-Fi people get snubbed out of the Movie app for no reason. Especially when I have a trip this weekend that I was looking forward to using the movie app.
i got my ota update at around 12:30am last night. did a restore to stock and then used power+volup button to reboot and then check updates.

great. seems like you have a lot of info from your sources. so i will ask you this, without providing exact info (dates, time, etc.), are we close to an SD fix? Simple yes or no.

This was not done purposely, looks like their was a "bug" which caused issues with Wifi owners. But I would rather have the update now than to have to wait another few weeks just for the movie tab to be added. Enjoy your 3.1!! I'm told that the auto-rotate issue should be patched also hopefully soon!!

Hey there! yes, the SD issue is NOT Motorola's fault, contrary to what is believed..this is a issue with Honeycomb itself which Google is aware of and will fix. The other tablets that do have the SD card support are using a "work-around" but its not the official fix. From what I "hear" the issue is how Honeycomb sees the SD card, this will be officially fixed soon. I believe that the other tabs will receive an update for the SD card also, as the way it works for them is not "official"

Can anyone provide a reliable link for this? People with wifi have been getting updates randomly for the last couple of days, so I'm not sure this is news. Not that I don't trust unsubstantiated conjecture, but... actually, I don't trust unsubstantiated conjecture.

Another post eslewhere in this forum mentioned that Motorola tech support said that a "fix" (not sure if that means Xoom only temp fix or a permanent fix from Google) for the SD card was finalized and would be pushed at close to the same time as the 3.1 update.

Just curiosity: Are people that are reporting "bugs" (though to me it sounds like apps that need to be updated for full compatibility with Froyo) running the OTA updated 2.2, or manually updated 2.2?
Edit: Changed name to Froyo(HACK) as recommended by someone since no one seems to be running a genuine OTA updated Froyo
Manually-updated using the official signed update from Google, for me. I don't have most of the bugs that have been reported here; the only one I'm currently aware of is that two applications I updated via the market this morning are no longer shown in the "Downloads" list, although they are labeled as "installed" when I search for them in the market. Other than that, no problems here.

I understand what you're saying.
However Google have released an OTA update to the MEDIA!
They'll grab this with both hands and show how the NEW messiah has fallen over again and how we should have all bought iPhones.....
I do believe this Froyo is HIGHLY unpolished and very dissapointing. It should have been released when it was fully ready.
I'm desperately trying to get back to CM but it seems to have screwed my phone and I'm stuck........

Good thing that people around here are chasing up all the last minute bugs for Google though. I am sure they would prefer to see them now rather than after releasing it to the general public.

good point lol
I'm waiting for the official Google too
Yeah I updated with Paul's version and I would have stayed on froyo but having annoying camera bugs.
I dont think Google meant this as an actual release since you Market isn't allowing protected apps etc with the froyo fingerprint. etc.
So i'm back on Cyan and all is well with the world.
I did however keep the newer radio to test it out.
It would be great if someone around here could change EVERY thread title that mentions this version to FROYOHACK so that once the real official one is released, we dont have to wade through all this pre-release BS. I know it is not possible but just thought.
What were your camera bugs?
I did Paul's too and mine worked 100%. Still have the new radio and according to speed tests it is doing better than the old one

I've posted it in the general forum. QIK app didn't work and if you use the stock camera app and slide to the camcorder then BACK to the camera, N1 would crash.
I posted the logcat and it appears there are some incompatibilities somewhere deep. I tried every kind of wipe and 'band-aid' that I could to get it working and failed miserably.
But I figured since i'm on an AT&T N1 that this release wasn't intended for me and there must be some kind of subtle differences.
*shrug* we'll see.

The FM radio stuff was never announced OFFICIALLY. I do remember it being something rumored, but I don't ever remember Google saying it was an addition to Froyo. AND, even if it was announced, read my reiteration above about no normal consumers having the Official OTA update to Froyo.

Sort of ironic now, that people will avoid this thread in favour of ones without HACK in the title, as they will not want to accept that they have a hacked version on their device You cant win I guess.
Motorola XOOM users on the Verizon Wireless network: starting tonight, a maintenance release is rolling out to you in phases, so watch for a notification on your device that will tell you when it’s ready for download. The update includes required enhancements to support Adobe® Flash® Player 10.2 (coming soon); it also includes a fix for a bug we identified with Daylight Savings time, so be sure to install it!

MY droid always popped up updates even when I was only on wifi. I imagine we'll all get it or someone will post the update.zip anyway.
I'm curious if the Tegra 2 versions of flash (10.1) floating around will have something to interact with, and start functioning. They have with everything else. As soon as I get the OTA (no 3G), I have a folder full of them in my Dropbox.

Glad to see an update but there is nothing listed to get excited about except a possible problem with the upcoming daylight savings time switch. Who cares about the flash update since it does not actually include it. But this will be a good test run to see how the updates are sent out and applied.

You can force a check by rebooting. Not the best method, but it works.
Why do unlocked xooms need to get relocked?
I understand why you need to be on stock boot.img but i don't understand why you need to have the device relocked to get the update.
It makes no sense.

According to the system update tab this didn't happen in 3 reboots since the announcement. Still last check at 5:20. Really want to see if any of the 10.1 Tegra versions work after this. I've been frantic to have Flash lately (PlayOn/Netflix).

It might have a minimum time between checkins. Mine said 9:20am, then showed current time for last checkin when I rebooted.
So would it be fair to say that those of us who have rooted should wait until this update is released to see if in fact we really do need to revert back to stock/locked condition? Because I'd really be pissed if we had to lose all of the data on our Xooms just for this update, when very few of us have actually changed anything with the boot.img, etc. I mean back when I first rooted my N1 but before I flashed custom ROMs, I never had to wipe back to stock to receive OTA updates, so why would that be the case here??

nothing for me either.
I would not worry about it so much. We are all going to have to wait for the devs to work their magics regardless. There will always be an offline method of installation via CWM as usual that is already rooted and has all of that other goodness.
Once the devs take over and get ahold of the OTA zip files, we will see updated versions of their ROMs in no time. They will have the 3.2 features in it with all of their own other custom features/contents. I say... wait for Team Tiamat, they will do their thing. You know it'll be them to do it once again, as almost always. After that, say hello to other iterations of custom 3.2 ROMs, and then updated kernels from all teams that will work on the new 3.2 update. That's my opinion, but I believe it a makes a very good point.
I've got a Wifi Xoom and I got the update too. I tried to restart to install, and got the "exclamation point in a triangle" on boot. I'm rooted with the Tiamat Kernel, so that's probably why it errored out.

Where did you hear this?
Houston Texas WIFI here and no luck...
My message to Asus.
"[Problem Description]
After the latest firmware update which included Netflix and the app backup program, I
have found that the touch screen no longer is sensitive enough to pick up my stylus.
Prior to the update it worked near flawlessly for note taking and drawing apps. Now
however I am lucky if it picks it up at all. Manila input via my fingers still works well.
Also, the app backup app does not work at all. It consistently fails regardless of the
choices I make, whether it be data, data and app, or even the size of that I choose.
Please advise if these are known issues and if an update is in the works to rectify the
issues. Thank you."
Their message back.
"Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
We will release new FW 8.6.5.19 for this issue soon."
Just as a heads up for anyone also having these issues as I am.
I want the firmware with ICS please.
That would be nice.....but in the meantime I'd love to be able to use my stylus for handwritten notes again....

my guess, to merge in the camera and microphone drivers, the xoom 4.0.3 aosp was released what 2 weeks ago and they are already going to test this in a time where nobody does any work, the team eos rom was awesome and i think we should all be very very excited for our xooms that we paid so dearly for to finally work the way they were intended.
wild guess, 2 to 4 weeks before it's out for the 3g/4g lte xooms or at least i hope!

My guess is that if this is indeed ICS, then Motorola will release the much needed drivers for the camera and other things and the devs working on the ICS roms can just incorporate those into their builds and there will be no need for going back to stock.

Plus, be careful that future updates don't somehow lock down the bootloader. Some may not care, but I won't ever willingly go back to stock.

This is the direct link to the "survey" that signs you up straight out of the email that I got:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NR5YG85
Requirements are mentioned above but for those that missed it:
U.S. WiFi "Google Experience" devices ONLY.
Must be a registered member "in good standing" at the new Motorola user forums.
To anyone that does get in, don't forget to break the terms and tell us all as soon as you know what its all about......lol
Not for UK users then hmm
So I'm guessing Canadian xoom owners don't get a shot at this? It's odd because our tablets and OS's are pretty much identical. Crazy why Canada gets shutout as it should be North American tablets.

The OS isn't. That's why we got 3.2 ages after the US. Actually, did they ever release 3.2 for the Canadian Xoom? I wouldn't know as I reflashed with the US ROM when I got sick of waiting for 3.1.
The Canadian ROM has some US-only stuff removed such as Amazon MP3, and there were a few other differences too (3.0 had a whole different update checking module for instance).
Right now our best chance is for Team EOS to get their hand on it, be able to lift the missing binaries from it, and get us a 99% working ICS before Moto does (and probably months before Canadian owners gets an official ICS update as well).

Could someone please explain to me if this link is for real or a fake? Thanks in advance.
Yes, they released 3.2 for the Xoom last month from what I heard.
I returned my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to the store yesterday and picked up a Xoom. The performance is much better on the Xoom it looks like. I know the screen isn't as good but the performance seems much better.
