The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is the manufacturer's first Android phone. It is rather high-end, equipped with a 1GHz Snapdagon processor, 4-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 480x854 pixels and an 8.1-megapixel camera with autofocus. However, its software features are just as impressing. What it adds to the Android universe is a personalized interface, called UX (from User eXperience). Basically, UX combines various entertainment and social media features.

The X1 was slow at the 1st demo, they said they will fix it .. never happened ..

Very slow ... and based on track record ... not going to get fix, not in firmware 1, neither in 2, neither in R3A ...

Of all the new OSes the most I like is WebOs by Palm, but have no idea

I can even extend this list:
4. No possibility to scroll through big pages quickly (like with optical button)
5. Ugly UI (too small icons, also seems to be very dull)
6. Laggy even in the browser, which is said to be snappy (loading the engadget site takes as long as with my X1)
7. Same battery like X1 BUT 1GHz cpu AND larger screen (battery drain!!!)
8. Is the phone still usable if I don't use Facebook and Twitter (or is just everything blank) ??

Nah .. it just seemed funny to me that someone hates phone which he does not have and which was just recently been officially introduced. If he said 'I don't like it' it would be perfectly fine with me. Never mind ..
As for Android dominance .. interesting question. Actually yes. Not in year or two. But WM is going to phase out. Apple is too closed. Web OS seems to be developing too slow at the moment. Actually I would like to see Web OS in this role as long time Palm OS user and developer, but Android for sure has bright future ahead.
As for X10, I like the form (no keyboard, large screen), it's just what I'd like to try, but it is no matter of life and death for me, so please don't flame. X1 keyboard is too clumsy and I don't use it that much, and the screen is small for me as my last PDA was Palm T5 with 3.9 inches. Also I don't like WM, since my last PDA was Palm OS. I kind of got used to WM, and I almost stared to like it as I started to develop applications for it (nothing public so far), as the process is really smooth (though not free).
What I don't like is that SE shell. I generally hate animation in UI. I could live with it if they were really snappy (like iPhone has for example). But if they take time, and are even jerky, now that plainly sucks. It's not good for effect, nor for usability, it's just stupid.

did I say "everything" ? thought I gave 3 reasons why I hate it and that doesn't mean I hate the phone entirely.

I will deffinitely check this device out, but I will stick to WinMo for the moment. Maybe if I get a chance to buy it cheaply and use it as a second device....

Im just going to come back and throw a few things back since this is also a WinMo forum..
4. I have NEVER used the optical pad on my X1 to scroll through pages. Its a touchscreen, you just flick..
5. Ugly UI.. Sorry, but are you forgetting about WinMo here? Yes WinMo can run Sense or SPB, but this is Android. Its Open Source and there are a variety of "skins" out there
6. Do you even have the X10? Didn't think so, so you can't comment here. The Engadet video is also running a pre-build of the software so its buggy.
7. Most phones dont last that long anyway. Your supposed to charge them every night anyway
8. Fair point as not everyone uses social networking. Im going to say that you can just enter various details yourself

That is your personal preference. For example, I use it all the time: to scroll through menus, web pages and most notably - e-books.
It is amazingly functional.

While it's somewhat useful, I agree, it cannot even come close to a wheel, let alone it is very small and highly inaccurate, unfortunately.

The user manual which can now be downloaded shows that unused tabs in timescape can be unchecked (removed) leaving whatever the remainder is as the timescape flow.

that is excellent news. i personally have only got facebook and myspace. i don't use twitter that much.. and can really only see myself using timescape to update facebook and myspace.. sms and email i can use the regular apps for that.. i.e. i doubt my device will be slowed down by timescape ...

It's CRAP....but I like it....what do I do?

I'm in two minds.
The HD2 is a GREAT piece of hardware. I've had three different ones since November.
It looks excellent, the screen is gorgeous, the build quality superb
But I have two major gripes:
There is very little decent software: and by 'software' I mean things programmed from the ground up to provide access to things I like to do, such as Facebook. All the Apps that I DO find to provide this function either have a clunky and ugly Windows CE look to them, have jerky scrolling and/or provide very inconsistent/downright SH** functionality (See Microsoft Facebook App).
Unfortunately I am a big social networking and multimedia user and for me ALL the Twitter clients, Facebook clients and IM clients pale into insignificance compared with those available on Android and iPhone OSx. Logging into 'lite' versions of Twitter or Facebook through a browser just isn't good enough for me: I have seen the light.
There is a great deal of software development outside of the Marketplace - YES - but most of THIS development seems to be more about fixing core problems, missing features, settings and stability fixes than providing nice apps with a pleasant user experience.
Now I KNEW the Marketplace was poor before I got the HD2 BUT I expected it to improve somewhat. It seems though that a new app is thrown in there about once every six months...the Marketplace is just DEAD IN THE WATER, and all the while stupid companies like SPB sell their rip-off wares therein I feel that the Marketplace will be tarnished.
As I said though I KNEW the Marketplace was poor before I bought the HD2, but here I come to my bigget gripe with the HD2...
Its reliability.
Slag the iPhone off all you like, but my 3Gs (which had a tethered jailbreak and therefore needed plugging into windows to boot it back up if it was turned off) never ONCE needed restarting nor turned off whilst I was at work. (And before anyone mentions it I had backgrounder installed so I WAS multitasking)
On the other hand I have to reboot my HD2 at LEAST once EVERY DAY, regardless of which ROM I have installed. Now I have been using Windows Mobile phones for years and years and I KNOW that Windows Mobile is unstable and unreliable, but I was kind of hoping that with the super powerful processor, extra RAM and Windows Mobile update that I wouldn't have to worry about this any more.
NOT THE CASE.
I just cannot cope with the SMS app slowing down, missed keypresses and the cursor jumping to the start of the text all the time; I get fed up of everything freezing up; the screen not turning on but the lights still coming on on the keys; things going jerky for no reason.
NOW I know I'm going to get some asshole telling me I must have faulty hardware blah blah blah. BULL****. I've had three of the phones and it's the same whether I use a custom or standard ROM. I close down apps, and still things stay slow and jerky until I restart the phone....my conclusion:
WINDOWS MOBILE IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED.
I am no fanboy....not of ANY device. I will buy whatever I think is best and for HARDWARE there is nothing to beat the HD2; I love it....the software though seems to be showing its age REALLY badly, so now I just don't know what to do.
Yes I know that no device is perfect, but out of the iPhone 3G/3Gs/HTC Magic/Hero and Dext that i've owned/own NONE of these devices have genuinely hampered my ability to do NORMAL 'phone' things like sending a text by slowing down and getting glitchy for no reason...not EVERY DAY anyway...until the HD2 came along.
I'm going to keep my HD2 for another month or so and give it a chance as - like I said - I DO LOVE the hardware, and when it works WELL it is a very nice device to use...
But I'd like to hear from anyone else who's not having a good experience with the HD2, and what they would like to see from the device in the future and how much more of a chance they are going to give HTC to fix the problems discussed regularly on these forums.
I don't want to hear from people who think the phone is perfect....I'm not interested in your views as they are clearly tarnished in some way by either an amorous obsession with Windows Mobile or a lack of variation in the phones you've owned. I don't particularly want to hear anyone criticising the iPhone or Android either as this is pretty irrelevant.
Just please can someone tell me I'm not the only one, and offer some suggestions as to what might help or what phone they are considering as replacements.

I'd say return it (since it's your 3rd time) and get an android or go back to your iphone. No point in lamenting about the OS if you're unwilling to make things work.

It's my third time because I sold my first upgrade for the money and my DEV phone broke.
What exactly do you mean by 'unwilling to make things work?' I've tried every tweak and fix I can; every task manager I could find and applied every patch available: would you define this as unwilling?
I want to hear from other people who have a similar experience to me and what they plan to do: wait or buy a different device.
I don't want to hear from people who get defensive and patronising at the very idea that their precious phone is less than perfect.
I haven't contributed twice as many posts as you through unwillingness, Lude219, so please don't try and make me feel small.
I am genuinely in two minds about what to do and thought that I would like to hear like-minded views and suggestions, not thinly-veiled insults.

I empathise.
From my perspective:
1. WinMo & apps - Agreed. HUGE room for improvement.
2. Reliability - Top notch. No unneccessary reboots required, no hangs/freezes/non-responsiveness/missed keypresses/cursor jumping
....maybe it's your phone.
Doesn't bad luck come in threes? Maybe your next HD2 will be as good as mine. (p.s. I'm using 1.61 stock rom)

I had the N97 before this, and im really happy to have moved on, the HD2 owns the N97 ,... Nokia died .. sadly .. The best was the N95

I for once thought that by getting the HD2, I will be able to connect with friends .. I thought its facebook integrated because you can add their info in contacts !!
But the blackberry, a new wall post, an inbox message, even a POKE .. you get a notification ...
I really thought the HD2 is more social .. but the facebook app sucks ...
A bit dissapointed at that part .. but oh well ... If you had the N97, you cant really complain alot ... The n97 killed nokia (IMO).

Sell it, wait for Xperia X10 - it seems this should be a social network beast.
And comes with Android 1.6 with tons of apps to choose from...
Not that those would have the eye candy look of iPhone apps by all meanings...
But you will have what you want. I don´t think you are the HD2 type.

I'm not sure why you need to restart the phone every day because I certainly don't have to do that. I'd say that you're problem is related to some software you've installed rather than the phone or the OS. I don't have any stability or reliability issues with Windows Mobile.
Perhaps you need to reflash an official ROM and install the apps you use one at a time to determine which one(s) are causing you problems?

I've been surprised by all the problems with the HD2 myself. I don't own one yet but I've been wanting to get one since I first saw the leaked specs.
Unfortunately every HD2 that I've tried over the last two months has not been usable. I've tried different units from different vendors, sometimes for several hours and in each case the primary problem has been the keyboard.
Yes, it's far to sensitive but there are a number of other problems with it including the jumping cursor. I've used that keyboard on the HTC Hero without any problems so it should really be easier to use on the HD2. I know, I can install tweaks to reduce the screen sensitivity (although it's great for everything else) or install other keyboards but I'd like to see HTC address these problems first.
Anyway I have started thinking that the problem with things like SMS, phone slowdowns, etc, etc may not be WM 6.5 related but rather HTC Sense related.
I would like to know if anyone has managed to try a Sense-free ROM or better yet the closest thing they can get to a vanilla WM 6.5 build on this hardware, perhaps with and without the multi-touch driver.
I'm going to try and hold out for a bit because HTC haven't really managed to fix any of the major bugs and they still haven't addressed a number at all.
The Pink Camera issue has been reduced (but not fixed 100%), the camera flash is a problem, they have failed to fix the SMS issue twice already and they still have to address a whole slew of other problems including the 3G connection problem. I'm going to try and wait and see if they do so either this month or by MWC next month, possibly even alongside the next version of WM 6.x.
I also have an issue with available apps but in my case it's missing apps from the iPhone and Android and the lack of depth within apps in Android, so that limits my options.
These are the alternate devices that I'm looking at:
Acer neoTouch
Samsung Omnia II
Samsung Omnia Pro (not so much anymore)
Blackberry Storm 2 (a bit of an odd one out)
Since you like Android you may want to look at:
HTC Bravo (not released yet)
Motorola MILESTONE / DROID
Acer Liquid (you can get the CPU unlocked to 1GHz)
Also since you like Apple you may want to see if anything of interest is announced next week.
The Acer neoTouch has the same CPU as the HD2 but much less RAM and a very light skin on it and it seems to work really well. It also seems to be faster than the HD2 so this is my next choice unless something crops up to makes me think otherwise.
The Samsung Omnia II is a possibility but it is a lot less powerful than the Snapdragon phones. It has a decent 1500 mAh battery and an AMOLED screen as well as the option of 2, 8, or 16 GB of internal storage depending on the model.
The Samsung Omnia Pro is really there because I was looking at it as an alternative to the HTC Touch Pro 2 because it had a faster CPU and a flash. However after trying phones with lager screens than my TyTN II I think that I could live with a software keyboard.
I'm really hoping that the three phones above are added to the forums here at Xda-Developers because that will make the buying decision easier. I'd really rather not loose the great support that comes from the users of this site.
The Blackberry Storm 2 is an outsider but still a possibility as a last resort (but I may end up with one anyway since I want to replace my current phones with two new phones - I use one with a local SIM while traveling). I don't really like the clicky screen that much but it does work well. Right now there is no working VOIP software for use with Skype over 3G available and I'm waiting to see what happens with the BIS upgrades that are meant to happen this quarter and next quarter to see if it can be made to work for me.

I have decided to go back to the Iphone - nothing beats it for ease of use, application / media support and obvious sync ability if you own a Mac. The HD2 Hardware, screen and size is awesome but I find the WM and HTC UI just too messy and clunky compared to the Iphone. I have kept it though until a more cleaner UI is designed and the Windows apps store improves - Infinity looks promising...but by then the new iphone will be here - and other makes will always be playing catchup in terms of innovation and UI simplicity.
I suppose you cant beat it for customising though, but I don't want to spend half my time fiddling with silly theme tweaks and icons.

But how do you go from a 5mp camera (although pink spot crap) to a 3mp camera with no flash !!!!!

On bright day, Iphone camera is just as good...and I prefer a bit of grain on darker scenes to pink spot of doom and blurry shots on HD2 - the video on iphone is just as good also...but the HTC is great and I miss it.

Agreed... Social networking and multimedia software for HD2 is pretty low quality or completely missing compared to other platforms. I think that Microsoft is not releasing any update for their social networking apps because they're totally focused and committed to deliver WM 6.6 and WM7. Before switching to another phone I'd wait feb/march to see what Microsoft will show about these updates and if they will be available on our HD2.
Personally, I think that WM7 with its supposed wow-effect and eye candy will give a huuuge boost to the software catalogue of the platform and deliver strong social networking capabilities.
Taking about reliability... I just have to reset my device sometimes because my texts gets stuck in the outbox, but this problem is HTC related and I hope will be fixed asap. The same thing can be said about most of any other software issue on HD2. Based on some analysis that I did by observing the active processes on my phone, there are some memory leaks or high CPU usage also Start (HTC Sense), services.exe and HTC Messagging while the device is performing some SMS-related tasks or HTC sense is updating contacts and linking them with the newest Facebook Updates.
Also, by having tried for quite a long time a "vanilla" version of WM 6.5.x, I can say I didn't had any single problem that caused me to soft-reset the device, and the system itself was fast and stable. Then I went back to a modded ROM with sense built-in just because of the extra eye candy (I don't like how titanium/spb shell or pointui 2 look).
So my suggestion would be to wait a couple of months to see what Microsoft has under the hood and then decide what's the best for your needs.
EDIT: It seems that itje managed to grab a 2.06 version and will include it soon in his new rom, so it may bring some fixes to the most outstanding bugs (but have new ones aswell... we just have to wait and see)

hi mate, i was watching the hd2 for a couple of months andi i finally got one about 2 weeks ago now. i must say initially i loved it, the look, the size the style, i thought it was perfect, but over the past week things are starting to annoy me now. ive had to pull my battery out a fair few times due to the screen staying blank but the buttons being on, message lag is the worst, its got to the point where im opening and closing the menu 3 times until its caught up... also im getting general lag and slowness in the menus now aswel. i have no music on here, about 20 photos, i havent done anything to it because i only just found out how to get into the registrys! its a joke, and you can say 'install the tweaks and roms' or whateve r,but why should we rely in people here at xda to adress the flaws and fix them, when the least id expect from a £500+ phone is to be able to send a text lag free! also, web browsings ridiculously poor image quality, poor you tube video quality, its crap! ive tried i.e., but its buggy, opera is my favored but with horendous image quality, and opera mini is the worst browser ive ever used...
In time cant wait to start customising it and playing around, but with things i want to, not because i have to due to htc's laziness...

I never had to take the battery out of mine, it never crashed, image quality was superb when browsing and You Tube videos were perfect!

I used to have wm phone 3 years ago while there was nothing better in the market and it did the job very well. Then I bought an iphone 3G and I saw the new meaning of user friendly interface and responsive phone. I had the iphone for 2 years and 3 days ago I bought the HD2. Now the iphone looks like comparing DOS with windows! The iphone interface is so simple and the CPU is very slow. It crashes sometimes (once per 10 days approx) and Apple policy is the worst! They want to control their clients and release whatever and whenever they want. When I first got it I couldn't even send MMS or use my own ring tones(there was a whole list of things you couldn't do even though they were supported by the hardware). You cant customize anything because they want to keep and maintain an 'apple' look. Before I got my HD2 everyone had an Iphone whenever I was (train, bus, streets) and I was feeling like I was one small piece in the mass that apple was controlling...
HD2 allows you to do many things whitout comrpimising the user friendliness. I only restarted my phone after I installed critical updates. The battery lasts the same but at least you can replace it whenever you want. Also you can upgrade the memory and connect many different bluetooth devices. Yesterday I connected my bluetooth keyboard and wrote a page in word mobile. Can you do that with the iphone? I synched my contacts with facebook and now I have all the pictures automatically filled. Also with the HD2 you can play almost every media file without transcoding. Can you do that with the iphone? Of course not...The hardware allows you but Apple dont..
Also what about the radio? The led flash?
I am very happy that I moved from the Apple game into a free device that you can do whatever you want but at the same time having this very good looking GUI that makes you feel like being in the future....
I kept my iphone at home as an alternative console/pda because I knew that some programs and especially games will be missing from HD2 so whatever does not exist on HD2 (yet), it is on the iphone.

Yesterday I connected my bluetooth keyboard and wrote a page in word mobile. Can you do that with the iphone? I synched my contacts with facebook and now I have all the pictures automatically filled. Also with the HD2 you can play almost every media file without transcoding. Can you do that with the iphone? Of course not...The hardware allows you but Apple dont..
Also what about the radio? The led flash?

The iPhone that you had for 2 years is either the 1st or second generation iPhone, and they are of course slow. The 3GS is not slow compared to Leo.
If you just jailbreak your phone, which is a mere 30 seconds affair comprising clicking a button when running BlackRa1n, then the things which you want to do including typing on bluetooth keyboard would be possible.
The only real attraction of Leo compared to iPhone is the screen size and resolution. The pink patch in the camera spoils the otherwise better camera. As for speed, I think there isn't differential.
Using window mobile instead of Android is however the biggest weakness of this device. There is no future in window mobile. Any application that we invest in on Leo today will not be compatible with WM7, if there is going to be one released at all before Leo becomes average or dated.
The WM6.5 UI is extremely stale. Good applications are hard to come by. Many applications and developments are in the nature of fixing up stuffs in order to correct bugs or make them more useable. Nobody is developing application on an OS that's at the end of its shelf life.

You could always check out the Nexus One also. It's gotten good reviews everywhere that I've read.

TP2 user considering G2

Ok so I’m a Touch Pro 2 (Tilt2) owner and long time WinMo user considering a switch to the G2 and Android. Is the G2 a worthy successor to my venerable TP2?
About me:
1. I’m an admitted Rom addict and occasional cook
2. I’m not an “App for that” type of guy
3. I’m primarily a business user and mainly use my phone for exchange mail, tomtom, bing, MP3 and Freda ebooks reading.
What I like about WinMo:
1. Flexibility
2. Customizable, I have 4 WinMo phones in my house all with different UI’s.
3. Good core capability
4. Conversational exchange mail, separate inboxes for pop mail accounts.
5. HTC Sense
What I don’t like about WinMo:
1. Poor performance, slow
2. Recent builds are more attractive but largely unreliable. The ROM makes all the difference, stock ROMs are generally crap while cooked roms generally look great but don’t overcome the core issues with the OS.
What interest me in the G2:
1. It felt great in my hand, solid generally well built, hard to believe its heavier than the TP2.
2. Screen looked fantastic
3. Very snappy performance for the short time I used it.
What concerns me about the G2:
1. The keyboard hinge. What were they thinking?
2. The keyboard itself. It seems a step down from my tp2.
3. Will the device be fast and stable over the long run? Judging from the post on XDA it’s hit or miss whether you get a good one or not.
4. It hasn’t been rooted yet (remember I’m a ROM flashing addict). I don’t really like the android version of sense but I’d like the option of choosing 

My last phone was the HD2 and I loved the easy customization that came with the cooked roms, but my G2 is a BEAST!
I haven't had any of the problems that many people have with it, so I guess I got lucky. Android takes some getting used to coming from WinMo, but it was worth the switch to me.
My best advice to you is, take it for the 14 day test drive(30 in cali) and see if its for you. If not, return it and wait for the HD7 that is coming out in a few weeks.

I'm a TP2 user and an admitted Redmond fanboy. However, all good things must come to an end. I'm getting the G2 as well. But I don't really have the same amount of apprehension as you do, minus the rooting issue. As it stands right now, the Android platform, and the G2 in particular, combines most everything we loved about WimMo and our beloved Rhodiums, but without most of the drawbacks.
I'm making the switch because for several reasons, but reason #1 is that I don't think we'll find a more complete device for guys like us. Perhaps they're phones with better specs, but not more complete. I'm not too sure about how the exchange capabilities of Android stack up against WinMo's, but everything else that you mentioned, Android and the G2 does or is capable of. It's customizable, it has the core apps you need, and to be fairly young, its a mature platform. Updates come fast enough, but who really needs those when we have XDA?
Much as I love the TP2, much of the appreciation is owed to HTC for the sweet keyboard and Sense. I can't think of a single WimMo I would have ever bought that wasn't an HTC. I'll probably have the TP2 for another decade However, all things considered, you have to admit that the G2 is better in almost every aspect. S-LCD vs. LCD, trackpad vs. none, much MUCH better processor, more storage, better camera, HSPA+, sturdier build and it just looks friggin sweet. Now as far as the TP2 keyboard, well, its the best ever and that's just that, but the G2's is easily the next best thing. I MUST have a hardware keyboard and I've given just about all of them a test drive. The Galaxy's and the Droid's aren't even the same league. None really comes close to the G2's. And with a much missed trackpad and a more responsive screen, the overall package IMO is actually better than the TP2's. I played with one for like 30 mins in the Tmo store and I was banging away messages almost as fast as I would on my TP2, and I've had over a year's practice on the TP2. Remember, the G2 is still an HTC. The phone is pretty awesome.
Now the hinge issue, I'm not sure what to make out of it. I don't think it's as big of an issue as people were making it out to be, kinda like Antennagate on a smaller scale. The model I played with didn't have the issue. It was really crisp but I wonder if it can take the same type of abuse my TP2 did.
One of the reasons we loved ROM's so much is really because we had to flash in order to get optimal performance. The G2 doesn't have that hickup. It's amazingly fast. Most everything works as described from my brief experiences and from everything I've read. Especially the core functions. We can't say that about WimMo out of the box. I can't speak for the long term usability or stability of Android, but I refuse to believe that even without any sort of hacking that its worse than WimMo. I love WimMo for the same reasons you do, but goodness they frustrated the hell out of me sometimes.
I'd love to know that I'll have full root on my phone as soon as I get it, but knowing that there are temporary solutions to remove bloatware and tether, I'm good for now. But I have confidence that we (they) will get it soon. When we (they) figure it out, we'll be able to get Sense on the phone I imagine. The Desire Z has Sense on it. (BTW, maybe you should just get an unlocked Desire Z?)
Sorry for being so long-winded. Didn't mean to write an essay. All I really need to say is that I'm jumping ship too. Yeah Android isnt' perfect, but what is? And if you can name a better hardware/software option for power users like you and me, I'd love to hear it.

I'm not sure how you feel about Windows Phone 7 but the HTC 7 Pro does look pretty nice. The screen tilts! Not sure exactly when it's coming here or on what carriers. I'm not a CDMA guy so that might be a holdup for me.

I'm not sold on Windows Phone 7 in the least but I guess it's worth a shot. Or not. Either way I'd love to see Android or even WinMo 6.5.x on it.

Do it and never look back.
WMobile is antiquated to say the least, regardless of the power underneath the hood.
Daily if not weekly resets alone were enough to make me switch. Regardless of the rom, if you ran long enough without a reset the phone would slow and the nly remedy would be to soft reset. NO THANKS!
The mystery will be Windows Phone 7 but whatevs. I like the G2. I plan on making it the first phone I keep for two years or more, and that speaks volumes if you look at my phone history. The Wing lasted the longest.
You might have battery problems, as I have seen them documented here in the forums, associated with exchange and pop mail. I think it has to do with the interval settings of the polling. Seems GMail is the only one that works semi efficiently on the battery. I have them all set to manual, or I just turn on auto sync once every hour to two. They have programs in the market to automatically do this I am sure.
Just be done with that old windows is all I recommend. Windows 7 might be great but we dont know yet. android IS great. G2 is a keeper for me!

While Windows Phone 7 looks nice and all it really is a step backwards atm. No copy and paste until its first update, lack of full multitasking. Uncustomizable (you can't even use your own ringtones fromwhat I have read).
The G2 is a really nice phone and I have had little to no issues with it.

I’ve considered the desire Z but honestly I’m not as sold on the android version of sense as I am the WinMo version and without a root out of the gate I'd rather stick with standard android.
The HD7 pro was the logical upgrade from my TP2 and i actually like the new WP7 UI. I've run some of the UI clones and the concept is actually pretty good as long as it’s implemented well. What Apple does better than MS isn’t technology its marketing and packaging but given that the iphone 4 has just achieved the same level of functionality I had on my Kaiserback when the original iphone came out (just smoother and prettier) I think the lack of things like copy/paste will be more of a marketing problem for MS that will ultimately depend on how well they have done the rest of it.
What I don’t like is how far MS have gone overboard in locking down the new UI and adopting the iphone model for everything and that is one of the main things that has made me seriously consider android. If I knew the HD7 Pro was coming out as a GSM phone any time soon I might wait to compare it but in the mean time it’s either keep my tp2 or take the android leap with the G2. I know if I walk into tmo and play with one again I'll probably leave with it.
The one thing I know for certain is that I won’t be getting an iPhone, and hopefully the G2 will let me continue to knock the smugness out of the ihave what everyone else has crowd, like I do with my old WinMo.

the X8 is a good little basic android phone, dose everything I require it to do scrapped alot of the sony ericsson guff though (now using adw launcher, mixzing (music player) and the essential task manager!) just with these minor tweaks i've got it performing relativly well, battery is adaquote giving you a good day - 2 days moderate use. Screen is clear and ledgable, even outside! google navagation runs smooth with rapid GPS lock! camera is adaquote, it is capable of playing Raging thunder 2 (3d racing game)... speaker is loud and clear...

Anything else... just ask

Basic Android phone. Runs smooth. Battery will only last you about a day, don't know how the above user managed to get it to run for two days. Screen is indeed clear, but not outside, even on full brightness. Again, dunno where the above user is getting this.
Camera is useless while taking inside snaps, but outside the camera is fine. Don't expect anything amazing.
Speaker is not as clear as the above user makes it out to be. Putting a finger over the speaker really distorts the sound, unlike other phones I have used that don't affect the sound at all.
Overall, a really decent phone. ;D

IMO the X10i should be above the X8.
Also note, this phone will be fawking fantastic once the 2.1 update comes through.

I have SE phones since it was only Sony phones : I like quality of the products.
It was the cheapest smartphone (with some special offers, it made it free).
I need to tether sometimes for my EeePC.
I wanted to change my subscription to my provider and it appeared to be cheaper to take a subscription with a smartphone than with a classic phone...
I want Android for my smartphone.
So X8 has all I need :
I can do phone calls (when a phone begin to look like more to a PC than to a phone, it's important to say it).
I have internet (didn't tested Barnacle yet, but I should do it this week end)
Once rooted (was easier to do under Linux than under Windows...), I could delete all useless thing to a phone (games, stupid facebook, twitter, SE timescape, etc)
I can use my old "phone bag" with it because it is not too big (on the contrary to most other smartphones)
GPS is a good thing as i'm always walking around cities I don't know.
The screen is good, phone is not that slow (excepted first letters when using kb, like said somewhere else), easy to use, good sound quality.
As I don't use phone much (all day time on a PC with internet...), my battery isn't empty after 2 days, so yes it's possible to make it last more than 2 days
The only "not good" thing I can notice "in the bundle" is the original browser that has some difficulties to detect the good place I point my finger on.
EDIT : I don't feel the need to do a new post to answer to account1 (else this topic would be a mess) so I do it by editing : Barnacle is for tether, but I didn't try it yet. I think I'll do a post to explain all the things I had to do on my X8 as explainations are spread around the forum in pieces you have to gather to manage to do something (example : to root the X8 when you use Linux)

Now the battery life, deliberately chose the term "moderate use" to justify stating that I can get 1 - 2 days usage this can change from region to region plus the 100 other factors to be taken into consideration IE signal strength, number of masts in the area, network traffic, what services are running in the background ect, but 24 - 48 hours is reachable without too much hastle for myself on a standard day to day usage. Speaker, personally, I do not go around using the loudspeaker too often, but when I do, I don't have a habit of sticking my finger over the speaker anyhoo but I will go to the extent of saying it's louder and clearer than a Galaxy S's loudspeaker! Finally the quadrant score, even scoring close to the X10i is a bit of a surprise to me too, never mind marginally whooping it!

Thank you so much for the reviews. Well, i was with some doubts about this recent model. Ultimately, i've experimented the HTC Magic, that is awesome... my current handset is Nokia 5310, so I think it's time to upgrade it.
Do this smartphone is a good purchase ? Thats only 100 euros (With Vodafone Club Viva points, in Portugal...). Relating with some other mid ended handsets, is it good?

it's all down to taste I would say the phone is a good buy, and with eclaré update rolling out soon, it should be an amazing phone! I cant say it will be a better or worse buy than the magic, but its tonnes better than the low end symbian phones that nokia have been spewing out

1. Battery last for 2 days for usuallu usage. (x10 only 1 day)
2. Faster than x10 mini/pro. (in other forum someone protest that x10 is slower. But I confirm x10 is faster. But x10 mini/pro is slower)
3. Almost can do all my needs and jobs.
4. Bigger screen than x10 mini/pro.
5. Lighter and easy carry. (good for your secondary phone)
6. Sound is louder and clearer than x10. (x10 mini/pro is clearer. More beautiful for music experience)
7. Camera is bad. (actually not so bad for just casual usage,like mms or chat usage)
8. Etc. (waiting for other experts to add)
These are all I know for now.

HAHA, not a chance. Same processor + smaller screen/resolution = faster rendering time. The X10 Mini is without a doubt faster than the X8.

Can't argue with you there... But, putting your hand over the loud speaker is pretty much unavoidable. ;P Just sayin'.

May be all depend to what we experience and need. X10i is the best. X8 is not bad. X10 mini/pro is not so good.

I have three kinds of these phone. I just know what I experience. Although x8 still 1.6 but it still faster. I cannot explain why. But what i experience is fact just like that. The only slower loading is when I try to connect to my wifi. But other than that is fastervthan x10 mini. But absolutely slower than x10i. No doubt

Grab your X10 mini, install ADW on it. Now install ADW on your X8. Open up the app drawer. Notice the X8 lags a bit, whilst the X10 mini smoothly slides in.

The X8 is way more responsive on 1.6 compared to the X10 mini pro. 2.1 did improve the performance of the mini though. My X8 is still on 1.6, can't compare the two on 2.1 yet.

I never use adw. I am telling while x10 mini pro still in 1.6 because my x8 still 1.6. When I click on some menu, x8 loads faster than x10 mini pro. Except connect wifi.x8 takes more time till connected. But loads menu faster. Even start up time is faster. But I don,t like the screen guard sticker. My finger can not slide the screen smoothly.

Pros & Cons of Stock ASUS ZenUI Firmware

There have been a lot of changes in ZenUI over the time (about 9 months?) since the ZF2's launch, although rather disappointingly it is still based on 5.0 Lollipop. So I was wondering what you guys make of it in its current iteration? Personally, I am in two minds about the stock ASUS firmware and tend to flash back and forth between stock and CM rom. Focusing mainly on the stock ROM, and not thinking too much about visual design, which is a very subjective matter, here are my pros and cons:
Pros: Camera performance is good for the price and much better than with CM/CM-based roms. The latest version of the pixelmaster app is improved, and gives a lot of functionality (the manual mode is especially nice and now better integrated). While not all useful, there are a number of included ASUS apps that I find useful. For me, I make use of the SuperNote app, I find the ASUS email app much better than the gmail app, the Remote Link app is useful with a PC, I like having Splendid to adjust the display, the Weather app is handy, and I like the PhotoCollage app. Although I don't use it much, it is good having FM Radio functionality (always good to have a radio when you live in an area with earthquakes like I do), something you lose with custom ROMs. I think battery life is OK using stock firmware. A lot of flagship device reviewers quote 3 to 4 hours SOT in a day's use as being pretty good, and I easily exceed that on my Z008 with stock rom and most features turned on or maxed. I have a few qualms about the Zen launcher visually, but that is very subjective as I said. In terms of functionality it brings a hell of a lot to the table - touch gestures such as DTTS/DTTW and swipe down functionality, lots of launcher options such as app lock, homescreen lock, folder customisations, app drawer options, wallpaper settings options, the choice of one or two-layer style, scroll effects, themes and so on. The ASUS settings and quick-settings also offer some good extra functionality. The ASUS cover functionality is also nice if you have a view flip cover. While it is a shame that we are still stuck with 5.0, it is at least good that ASUS have started to roll Google's monthly security updates into their own updates.
Cons: Probably my biggest bug bear is RAM management. Not sure if this is an effect of 5.0's memory leaks, but my 2GB RAM model often has under 300MB free, compared to 600-900 on CM. Usually this doesn't affect performance and the UI is smooth, but sometimes it does seem to get jammed up. Disabling apps or denying apps in Auto-Start manager doesn't seem to have any effect on this. While it has improved a lot, I still have some problems with app connectivity when the device is sleeping. For example, regardless of my wifi settings and power-saver settings, TuneIn radio streams buffer or completely stop after a few seconds when the screen goes off. On CM I do not encounter this problem. (Edit: actually the tune in problem seems to have now gone away). USB connectivity with my Pioneer car stereo was also broken, I think by the PC Link suite CD Rom function. This is very annoying (and I would be very grateful if anyone has a solution to this problem). And one last one, though not a big issue - the Zen UI is, in my opinion, wasteful of space and the default DPI setting (320 on Z008) is too high and can't be changed easily and flawlessly.
What does everybody else think? Anything to add or anything you don't agree with me about? Let's discuss.

Pros: stability, official firmware, cool and useful apps and a beautiful overall (at least I like it) .
Cons: battery sucks.. Really, it does.

Great battery life on the Z00A here. I get between 5.75-7 hours of sot with about a days use without airplane mode or data turned off.
Biggest con is that their keyboard is buggy and if I try to add in a missed word in a sentence it will add it to the end and can take a few times to get it to add into the right spot or if I try to delete a word it deletes the last word even though the cursor is behind the word it deleted. The word prediction while swiping is rather poor also.
I own a Xiaomi mi3w, oneplus two and the ZenFone 2.
Although I do like the oneplus two a little more but bang for the buck and weighing pros vs cons this is the best deal.

I don´t want a app Android SO can use this option. This option can use in Asus zenfone in another android SO version.

Pro's are it's pretty fast.
Cons.......Volume button back is really hard to use, Annoying bloat-wear, speaker volume, music player, delayed voicemails, MMS issues, dropped calls even with correct APN settings, and a few others.
Thoughts are hoping marshmallow can resolve the issues because the phone is really lacking.

My main concern is the outdated video driver. It will not run one of the tests in 3DMark, for example

Pros: The UI is good and fairly smooth.
Cons: Over time the UI slows down as the phone runs out of memory...
ASUS should focus on having a solid and updated backend instead of adding UI features.

Repair takes forever and comes in worse shape than it was before.
Updating ASUS apps only makes the phone lag more.
at least I can disable most of the stuff and choose not to update it.

The topic was more supposed to be about the software than the phone as a whole, but whatever, it's all good.
Regarding not being able to turn off the shutter sound with Japanese firmware, that's because that is the law in Japan - presumably to try and stop pervy guys from taking surreptitious snaps of schoolgirls and office ladies on trains. My gripe with the models sold in Japan is more the pricing - we get hiddeously ripped off, paying near double the US prices. That's why I got an imported model - sacrificing a few LTE bands is worth it for the saving (and the added bonus of no shutter sound). Personally have had no problems with build quality or overheating on mine - sure, it is not premium build materials, but satisfactory for the price paid.
I am fairly satisfied with the current firware (.136 on the Z008) and was having a few issues with CM13 which keep me from using it at the moment. The one big problem that I have with stock is still the RAM management and/or memory leaks. It soon drops to under 300MB free of the 2GB, and recently often falls to near 200MB and suffers noticeable lag and stuttering at that point. Never have that problem with CM, which always keeps plenty of RAM available and is very smooth. 1.7 GB of RAM occupied with nothing much actively running is piss poor.

Taking sleeping baby photos is also impossible
btw, not just pervs. they dont like u taking photos in shops, books, when there is an idol group or some other gathering etc.
beside, if I want to take a photo of a girl whats the problem to take it with the shutter sound ON ? I dont really care... I pop up in lots of people's photos - without giving consent ..
btw, it seems that because of the shutter sound the camera lags when taking a photo. both when saving to built-in memory and SD card... Also the Shutter animation is super annoying... have no idea what causes this delay ..
I also have problems with skype, only on this phone.

software/bloatware... lots on it.. some of them can be disabled but after several updates some lost that option.. for some odd reason.
also, sometimes updating asus apps makes the phone even slower, added useless features etc.
I'm now on a Factory Reset, disabled most of the apps, only use Gmail, Skype, Chrome... and tomorrow sends the phone to repair again (since last time I was told they couldnt find anything wrong, LOL => phone without a working ear receiver can't function as a phone. also, being weeks without a phone in this day and age is complete %^[email protected]^&! (2 weeks waiting due to holiday, 2 weeks repair, 1 week waiting due to their holiday, then probably another 2 weeks repair, over 1 month without a working phone) another reason to buy a japanese phone or something from a phone provider, you get a phone to use til its get repaired)
I had good experience with several used phones I got here (all Xperia)... for 50~100usd more I could have gotten a 2nd hand Z3 compact... STUPID ME for choosing Asus

If, like me, you have a 2GB model and have been running into problems due to poor RAM management - setting a 4 app background process limit under developer options' apps section has sorted the RAM management issues for me. Has its drawbacks of course, but personally I don't multitask much so I am ok with it. I now have much smoother use with generally around 750MB to 1GB of RAM available.
