I have noticed that after being connected to wifi after some time my network doesn't appear in the list and shows not in range. A quick reset on the router fixes this issue. Now I think it has something to do with dual band routers. it did this on 2 different dual band routers but not on a single band 2.4g router. Is this a known issue for these phones or a bug in android itself?

Videos for the htc desire show it with wifi N and the spec sheets show wifi N. Does anybody know if any G2 tear downs show that it does infact have the hardware to run N? Are the devs working on enabling this?

Yes it does. I have wifi n at home connects just fine.

I have tried wifi n at two differ locations.. my gf doesn't pick it either and neither does my friend's g2. What we doing wrong? Our laptops pick up the band easily.

Wifi N can run on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. The G2 only supports 2.4 GHz, but many people run their N routers on 5 GHz to avoid the congestion on 2.4GHz.
You need to go to Menu-Settings-Wireless & Networks -Than Wi-Fi Settings to connect to nearby networks. I noticed when I turned on the wi-fi at first it did not connect right away. You need to view the wireless networks in order to connect. Once you connect it automatically saves. So each time you turn on your wi-fi it connects automatically.

It took me forever to figure this out with my N1. I went through all of the trouble of reconfiguring my router to use N on 2.4GHz, and it didn't make much of a difference anyway. Went back to 2.4GHz for b/g and 5GHz for N (my router has 2 radios).
I actually get a faster/better connection over HSPA+ (up and down) than I get through my router and cable modem.
Most dual band routers running both b/g and n will only allow n to run on the 5ghz band. You can only switch frequencies if your router is running the n band alone.
Is anyone having trouble connecting to their wireless N router using 5Ghz?
i am using an apple extreme router and when i set it to 5Ghz only and try to connect the phone says its connecting and then goes back to disconnected status. If i reboot the phone it will usually connect, but if i turn wifi off and back on it does not reconnect.
When i set the router to 2.4Ghz only the phone sees and connects to it instantly. Even when i turn wifi on and off.
Just curious if others are having similar issues.
nope, i am not seeing such problem. its working great here for me on my D-link DIR825 router where it connects instantly. though, initially, i had a problem connecting to my 5Ghz band that went away after reducing my channel to 48 (5240 MHz)
I would recommend trying to reduce your channel number and see if that will fix your problem.
Thanks,

I see your problem...you're using an Apple product lol.
LOL!! Some Apple products are good!
Appreciate the replies.

No such problem here. I have a dual band Netgear with separate SSIDs for each band. I connect to my 5ghz band just fine.

I have mine connected to a Airport Extreme as well. Just today I separated the b/g and a bands into separate SSIDs so I could choose the a band from the phone.
So far it seems to be working ok, after reading your post I enabled wifi and it didn't connect so I disabled and reenabled and it worked. Disconnected and reconnected twice after that without trouble. Do you have any remembered b/g networks in the area? Maybe see if forgetting those helps.
Nah, no nearby b/g networks. If I turn wifi on and off when using 5 ghz the phone will connect sometimes. At 2.4 ghz it always connects though. I was out of town last weekend so I am going to try messing with the channels like someone else suggested and see what happens.

Because of the higher frequency, the 5ghz band generally has difficulty traveling through walls and floors. The 2.4 ghz frequency is a lot more reliable in that way but tends to be susceptible to microwave interference and other nearby users running similar bands. The only advantage 5 ghz will give you is less traffic interference. It's not faster and certainly not a stronger signal. Go with 2.4 ghz if you don't have problems with it.
Thanks for the info!

After reading a bit it's seems to be a common issue on ICS and later. My device occasionally looses it's wifi connection, at which point I have to go to settings and turn the wifi off and on. Is there a better solution to this problem? My router is using WPA2-PSK and is on channel 7.
Wifi seems to stay on fine here, but I cannot connect to 5ghz, only 2.4ghz. Not sure if this is an issue or if the Wifi chip only supports 2.4 ghz.

it doesnt connect to 5ghz, unless theres a trick to it??? but use wifi analyzer and look for the strongest channel on ur wifi router to fix ur problem
Turn off multimedia support on your router if all else fails

Yea I'm having trouble as well. I have a telus smart hub at home and it is super slow. Then when I use my hotspot on my Gnex from rogers, it runs fine, although this app takes awhile to load.
Tried playing with the settings, only think I couldn't find was the 5ghz and 2ghz.
Try some more playing tomorrow and look for different routers

Can I ask someone with nexus 7 to check if it connects with wifi AD-HOC network without problems?
I use my old LG gt540 as a 3g modem + wifi router, but it works only with ad-hoc. For example my HTC Sensation can't connect to such a network.
edit: NO, it does not connect with AD-HOC
Hi all,
Is anyone having problems connecting to 5ghz bands on their N4?
I reconnected a simultaneous dual-band router that I used while my N4 was on KitKat. It would connect on the 5ghz band without issues, and I could view the 5ghz bands on inSSIDer. I installed the Lollipop factory image and now I cannot view or connect to my router over 5ghz, only 2.4ghz. Setting a different SSID, changing channels and widths does not help.

I'm having the same issue. It doesn't detect any 5 ghz wifi even if I set it to 5 ghz wifi only. I've flashed the factory image a second time thinking that might fix it but it doesn't.
I'm at work now where we have multiple 5ghz networks, and I can't see any of them. Any ideas on what I can do about this? Report a bug somewhere?
I have the the same problem. I've tried high number and low number channels on my Nighthawk using factory firmware default settings.
I solved the issue by reverting to kitkat 4.4.4. I think Google still has some work to do on 5.0.
i've the same problem.... i also thought to revert to KK but dont have the time for it....
i just wish google will fix the 5GHz issue and i wish for black theme (hate this bright white)

i think, the SSID name is the problem?! i'm at work and we have also multiple 5ghz SSIDs. SSIDs without any special character will be shown.
but i have one more problem with wifi. sometimes the phone can't reactivate the wifi module after i used bluetooth in the car. only restart helps
Yeah, I've been having the same issue since upgrading to lollipop.
I remember those issues with one of the older versions of android, but on 4.4.4 all was fine, I could see the networks and connect to them.
Now I no longer see any of the 5Ghz networks.

My nexus 4 (with Lollipop) behaves a bit differently. It does see 5GHz networks when set to 5GHz only, but doesn't see them in automatic mode.
Somewhat of an odd issue with Wi-FI
First the phone is a 100% stock (unrooted) Sprint issued Galaxy S5.
Access point is a Cisco 1142 in Autonomous mode running 802.11n (2.4 & 5ghz with a 40Mhz extended channel in the 5Ghz band). Both IPv4 and IPv6 (utilizing auto configure) are on my network.
Three laptops report up to 300Mb/s connectivity and work flawlessly
Three iPhones work without any issues
Two iPads (Wi-Fi only) also work without issue
Galaxy S3 work without issue
HTC EVO work without issue
The Galaxy S5 connects and works fine for a random period of time, seems to be typically between 1 and 3 hrs and then simply stops communicating, I've tried a static (IPv4) address but to no avail. Sometimes I'll find that only the IPv4 stops working but IPv6 continues to work or vis versa.
One thing I did note was the S5 never reports a speed higher than 144Mb/s regardless of the signal strength. I haven't tried disabling the extended channel on the 5Ghz band, maybe the S5 has a problem with that?
Lastly connecting to an 802.11g AP seems to work reliably.
Any thoughts/suggestions? I'm not opposed to rooting the phone if there is a known issue that is solved by modified code.

Tried disabling Smart Network Switch in WiFi settings?
Should have mentioned that -
Under Wi-Fi advanced
Network notification - unchecked
passpoint - checked
sort by - signal strength
keep wi-fi on during sleep - always
always allow scanning - unchecked
smart network switch - unchecked
Wi-Fi timer - all times unchecked

The access point "had" two SSIDs being announced, I took one off and the stability problems seem to have gone away, now to figure out if I'm announcing the second SSID incorrectly or something else is going on.

It's a Cisco 1142 AP (1140 series) in Autonomous mode, 2.4/5Ghz 802.11n, Per Cisco's glossy - "The 1140 Series is a dual-band, 802.11n access point with integrated antennas."

You might have the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band named the same then.

You might be onto something, based upon what I've found and my understanding of Wi-Fi there should be no issue with putting the same SSID on both radios; however I've found that the S5 seems to be switching back and forth a lot and is failing whenever its on the 5Ghz radio. I have since turned off the 5Ghz radio (of course that reduces my throughput to 144Mb/s on Wi-Fi vs 300 but I doubt I'll see a difference).
I've seen some various comments about 5Ghz not working properly for some, I don't know if this is a real issue or not.
Also keep in mind my 5Ghz radio was set for a double wide channel (40Mhz vs. the small 20Ghz) enabling 300Mb/s.

There's no issue until you have a device(such as the s5) that sees both bands, people do this with public WiFi as well, they put up a malicious hotspot with the same name as the public one. I would give your 5g band a different name that's what I do, its just said for 2.4 and ssid-5G for the 5.
