[Q] 2 questions regarding the a500 - Acer Iconia A500

Hello
i'm considering buying an a500 but i have two questions that bother me
1)
is it possible to connect to an enterprise wifi network
i mean the ones secured with 802.1x
specifically 802.1x EAP
i know android should be able too, but on my mobile phone connection is and stability on those networks is not that good.
so my quiestion is in fact: is it possible AND is the connection stable and usable ?
2)
i thought i read somewhere android 3.0 has just one locale installed. does this mean if i buy my tablet in lets say germany i am stuck with german and cant even switch to english ?
thanks

By locale I'm not 100% sure what you mean. I am able to use English, Spanish and Russian keyboards and voice input at the same time. I merely need select which prior to typing or speaking with a small icon on the on screen keyboard.
You can change the UI language under Languages and Input. On mine, bought in the US, I have German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, and two similar looking scribbles that I assume are Chinese.
The EAP I don't know about and have no way to test for you.

Regarding enterprise wifi support, I can confirm that 802.1x EAP support works fine and the connection is stable (I use it at work all the time).

bought in holand and it also has english language

801.2x works nice, but have in mind that there is no proxy support, so you will only be able to access your company net/intranet if they are using a HTTP proxy for internet access. There are various tricks for that but don't count on making it works.

hmmm ok thanks for this information
no proxy support is really strange. well i need to investigate then if they have a proxy or not

Hello
i still have a question.
because it seems many people can connect to enterprise wifi but have problems with the eduroam network
which specificallly uses in my case: 802.1x eap with ttls and pap
can anybody confirm if this type of connection works well ?
thanks

depends what type of access point he is talking about.
If you are talking about the access point name settings in mobile networks, then of course there is. Did you not notice the settings called proxy in the list when you edit it? you can't really miss it!
if you're talking about Wifi then Ovek's right, you're S.O.L.
It really makes me wonder what the Google programmers do all day, I mean they find the time to give me options about not letting WiFi sleep (nice! well done) then don't give you basic network options such as proxy or various corporate WiFi technologies.
Who is android designed for? Is not designed for students as every collage or uni network ive ever used needs proxy support.
Its not deigned for the business world with its crap email client, lack of proxy support or corporate WiFi tech.
And really let's be honest its not designed for your bog standard user as everything android does lacks a certain amount of grace, fixed a bit by the Hero but that's so bugged even I've wanted to throw it out of a window.
Ovek - agreed. I was gobsmacked by this lack of proxy setting. I thought it might at least support auto proxy settings with WPAD or PAC. I cannot use my Hero on a number of corporate networks because of this.

And that's why it's always been an inexcusable omission from day one. In my eyes anyway (not Googles apparently!).
There might be hope in the future with Donut as it does add better WiFi support, business stuff mostly but it will effect some uni networks that I know of. So if they have added that they *might* have added some proxy stuff, let's just hope they take a page out of Apples book and do proxy settings depening on what Wireless network your attached to.
no there is no way
some one may not want to use a proxy at all
if you want to use proxy for opera u can try this:

EzHero has that built in, you can disable it or enable it through settings...

DNS Problem....

Guys, I'm very new to android since I got legend yesterday and I couldn't find a way to modify dns settings. Since, with shame, in my country, some websites are restricted due to taxing problems, (etc, youtube ) and I should modify my dns settings. I couldn't find and I'm slightly losing my temper...
There're some solutions on net but i really couldn't understand what they are talking about. I need an explaination as "android for dummies". Any help appreciated.
settings>setup>wireless&network>wifi-settings
push the bottom "menu" and choice "advanced"
here you can setup ip and dns

I-net Connection Problem

Hey Guys,
i know the Title sucks but a better description would have taken to much space.
My problem is that my apps don´t get access to the internet anymore, it was working for several weeks with same settings etc. until i went to Israel for a week. Since then it didn´t work anymore. I can´t update my QuickGPS, can´t surf with ie / opera / skyfire and so on. The connection settings are 100% right!
The funny part is, that i can get access over the "W-Lan Router" App with my laptop, so hardware can´t be the Problem.
I tried several Roms:
Blackdragon (this is what i always used)
BlackStoneHenge
GoldLockes rom
StockRom from HTC Website
between flashing i always did task29.
Does anyone have an idea about that? My provider is Vodafone DE if that matters.
Thanks in advance
Banane
P.S. English is not my foreign language but i hope you can understand whats my problem.
connections settings orange branded
Hi
HTC touch hd uses automatic settings on most non branded phones. this can be accidental turned off somtimes.
if you go to settings > connections > connections set-up
On the menu link on the bottom, is enable Auto Configuration checked ? if not that could be your problem. You can always manually enter the connection settings but i find that a pain as i change sims now and then.
If the phone is a branded phone you may find the connection settings only relates to the information of the branded carrier, if so download the new connection database I know this works for a Orange Branded HTC touch hence my Title for this post . Psykokwa did some good work here

Hi makkad,
thanks for your reply. I am using a Wm6.5 Custom rom (BlackDragon) so there is no branding. The automatic connection set-up does not work for me because i have to use wap.vodafone.de as apn with a proxy and the wizzard does neither configure a proxy nor the right apn.
Like I said in my first post, the connection settings can´t be the problem because it worked before with same rom / settings / etc.
But here are my settings, if you can find a mistake in them i would be happy
Name: Vf Live!
Modem: GPRS, 3G
APN: wap.vodafone.de
- Auto assigned IP-Adress
- Software - compression enabled
- IP-Header - compression enabled
Proxy-Settings:
HTTP: 139.7.29.1:9201
WAP: 139.7.29.1:9201
WAP (secured): 139.7.29.1:9203
Socks: 139.7.29.1:1080

T-Mobile Z1s VPN connection issues?

I don't know how many users here are on t-mobile with the Z1s and using the VPNs from your phone, but this is a necessity for me. After finally getting around to it I found out real quick that it didn't work, and recently found a post on their support forum confirming this as well as a workaround for it.
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/60804
The above is specific to T-Mobile, but not to the Z1s, so I wanted to go ahead and add my experience, which is specific to the Z1s:
For some reason I was unable to edit the APN settings. I called T-Mobile support and they told me they can't help with VPN issues because it is the IT department of my companies problem (that would be me... and yes i know the vpn works). They told me if i wanted to access the APN settings i needed to unlock the phone? But I'm impatient so here is what I did for the Z1s specifically I just created a new APN with the same settings, and basically all you need to do is chang the protocol from IPv6 only to IPv4/IPv6 :good:
And now VPN works!
P.S. If this should be in a more general sub-forum please let me know/feel free to move it. :good:
I use private internet access VPN and their apps works fine for me. Did not need to modify anything. Just entered username/pw and connect. Have not tried the phone using a corporate work VPN though.

The problem seems to be if your endpoint is using IPv4, since the TMO network seems to be on IPv6 (though it may depend on the area). Also, this is using IKEv1 IPSEC VPNs through built-in android VPN settings. I also tried NCP's VPN client (3rd party app).
I think tmo should set their default profile to IPv4/IPv6.
I noticed sometimes I don't have data connection even though at full bars.
After I create a new profile with IPv4/IPv6, I don't have this problem any more.
