I read that the Nexus One is going to get WiFi 802.11 n support but I couldn't tell from the Verizon page if the Incredible already has it.
Does anyone know?
It supports 802.11a and 802.11n out of the box

i dont think it does support wireless N
earlier reports said wireless n support but nothing about that in the official verizon specs
you guys need to get one and open it to find out it it contains a certain model of bradcom chip which exists in (desire , nexus one & hd2 )

aka, if the drivers aren't there now, they will be at some point in the future. The interesting thing about that broadcom chip is that it supports an FM transmitter so that you can tune your car radio to a particular station and hear the audio from your phone. No driver support yet and no confirmation if we need anything aside from this chip.
about wireless N
From what i have read it dose not have wireless N
its does have wireless 802.11 b/g but no N sorry guys

Same information was said about the nexus one until someone opened it and found out it was N compatible.
I'm pretty sure they'll have the same chip as he N1, can't imagine they use another one, but you can be sure that someone's gonna tear appart the device when it comes out for the masses.
i hear n support will be enabled with the 2.2 release!!
It will be enabled for sure with the 2.2 update.

VZW source.
So when do they expect this update?
I dont have an N router anyway... but under specs on most pages I read it says b/g/n...
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/04/13/htc-incredible-specs/
last spec in the left column
Incredible can see N wifi signals
I put my wireless router to N only broadcast and I can see it but it will not connect, so I think that it has it but is just disabled. because if it didn't support wireless N it wouldn't even see it as a connectible wifi hotspot
I'm running DK28 and Wireless Tether 2.0.5 RC1, and see only WEP support in the settings.
Running 2.0.5 RC1 on Evo with Froyo 2.2.1, the settings menu shows WPA2 support.
The two phones' Wireless Tether settings menus are different, as if I'm running different versions (but I'm not). One with WPA2, the Epic only with WEP.
How come?

Thank you sir.
Any idea of an ETA for a working infrastructure mode?
I don't think anyone is working on it.

Why is it so important? There's the "Access-Control" option if security is your concern.

Using wifi at work would be one reason. Most employers are going to be using WPA rather than WEP (doesn't apply to me as I get yelled at if I use my work's wifi...).

Well supposedly (sp) BTthomas was working on it, however i dont see it being done anytime soon especially with official froyo being out yet, also if you look in the android development jr the guy that brought mobile ap to stock 2.1 rom which is infrastructure and awesome changed his thread to a WIP "Work in Progress" We might see it when the source drops possibly, if that comes b4 2012..

I use my phones (me = Evo, wife = Epic) for my only internet access. I cut the cable bill to save money. I have set up a router to repeat the Wireless Tether infrastructure signal of my Evo. (This way my entire network can use the signal, even wired computers) Currently, my wife's phone does not have the capability to broadcast in infrastructure mode, therefore the signal can't be repeated or passed on to wired computers on my network.
But, for most to who don't use their phones this way, it is still a much better signal with my Evo broadcasting an infrastructure signal.
Does that cover it?
Will there ever be wireless n for the Evo, I understand that the chipset might have been built on g but how was someone able to get it working on a nexus one? Would the broadcom company have to release a driver; I heard a rumor that our wifi driver COULD support N but that was just something I heard. And Lastly, Isn't wireless n the standard now why is this not common in phones yet lol. Not only does the wifi on the Evo stink, its not even wireless n and it stinks

UPDATE: i was mistaken about the n, it does have N just not 5ghz. I found this on the netgear website. Stupid Routers.
It has some wireless n. I've seen it on my airport extreme at 78 MB/s so that's N for sure. But it only does the 2.4 Ghz not the 5 Ghz.

Pretty sure wireless N was enabled with one of the earlier OTAs. Mine is definitely connecting with N and works fine... I'm running Calk's EViO rom with netarchy kernel.

This was my impression, as well.
Really guys? Hmmm I've never been able to get it to find my ssid on my wireless n netgear and everything else picks it up fine. I guess I was wrong then and very mistaken. I was really under the impression that the evo didn't have wireless n *scratches head* . I think my router is set on n and a mixed. I tried to change it but my Evo has never been able to find it. I've been all over netgears site and nothing. Just odd that my Evo is the only thing that doesn't see it. I tried on sense and aosp.

EDIT: my router is a 5ghz router could that be why?
Change it to 2.4 Ghz.

i tried man nothing, the section where you can change it from 5ghz is like grayed out. i have 2 n routers they act as an access point and bride, or you can use them as single n routers, my xbox and laptop pick them up but maybe that plays a part with the 5ghz. I guess when ur wrong ur wrong; maybe my routers of 5ghz only and thats why my evo cant see it. Might be time for a new router then; heres a screenshot of my access page it wont even let me remove 5ghz lol stupid netgear.
You gotta change where it says N only. It should be mixed or g and n mixed. Then it will give you a option to use 2.4 Ghz.

I have a netgear dual band router (2.4 & 5Ghz) after much searching and messing around in the router settings I've accepted defeat on connecting to the 5ghz band with the EVO. :'( Plus I really dont see any added benefit anyway considering im already browsing and streaming on my phone without any problems.

Those are 5ghz only. I have them as well. Evo can only use the 2.4ghz band. Which you've rightly figured out.
You could always set your router to broadcast 2.4 N is its capable like mine is. Then use those as a bridge/ap combo. That's how I have mine done.
Wow. A 5 Ghz band only router.

Those aren't routers but ap/bridges.
The reason its greyed out is he has auto channel scan checked.

I dunno. I don't have any problems aside from wireless taking a little while longer than I like to connect to my router which fools my juice defender into thinking there isn't any wireless then disabling it to save battery.
When it's connected though its plenty fast.

Even when I unchecked it I still couldn't change the freq to anything other than 5ghz; so yes they are only 5ghz which is weird. Idk I guess they work perfect for streaming HD movies from my comp to Xbox and laptop but gonna buy a cheap router for me phone today I guess. Thankx for all the input guys I appreciate it.

I believe on the box (threw mine away) they state 5ghz only.
I have a wndr3300 which is a pretty good router you can buy refurbished for like 30$ off newegg. Then I have my wnd111 hooked up through that.

This is what I have as well working with a N300
Hey everyone!
I have installed CM7 onto my KF, which I am loving btw, as directed by whistlestop over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390773, but I notice that my KF cannot find my 802.11N network. However, my 802.11G network is working w/o any problems.
I have searched that thread and the entire xda forums and could not find anyone commenting on CM7, KF and 802.11N. I am just wondering if the feature has even been added yet to the build or if I have a problem.
Much thanks for any info!
Has no one have any observations on this? I see the thread has gotten nearly 100 views, but no one is even able to confirm/repute my observations?

and your using CM7 on your KF? Can you tell me what band 2.4GHz, 5GHz or both you are using? Are you using a static channel or is it set to auto?
I ask because I had to set my 5GHz channel to a static channel for my Galaxy Nexus to see my N network. I am also using dd-wrt for my router firmware.
Thanks for the response!
there is a post from a dev that says 5ghz is not possible because the chipset is'nt capable of that - only 2.4ghz

Ya, mine was able to connect to my N network when it was running stock, but not since moving to CM7. In CM7, it doesn't even see the network.

Thanks for the heads up! I also found a page on wlanbook.com after you mentioned it. I would post the URL, but not allowed yet.
As for seeing N network on stock, I realize I previously had my N network SSID extended to the 2.4GHz band as well as the 5GHz band, which I do not anymore.
Thanks again!
glad to help ...

So I'm asking this question to find out more info about WiFi radio, is there ?? and what does it do, I was on stock MT4g and had both 5 ghz and 2.4 ghz bands from my router on my phone, and now I get only 2.4 ghz band with this rom, and I have tried many roms lately and none work like the stock rom....
so can you flash a different WiFi radio or not, and where do you find them
There is no "WiFi radio". There are WiFi drivers in the kernel.
You change them by changing the kernel.
And I guess that the custom kernels out now for MyTouch 4G don't support 5GHz bands.
This question was discussed here recently. With Cyanogenmod 7.1 and standard CM7 kernel I do have 5 GHz Wi-Fi supported.
Btw, it is believed that lack of 5 GHz is somehow related to Sense Framework, and not to custom kernels. So in Sense-based ROMs you don't see 5 GHz Wi-Fi, while in others do. Of course this conclusion might be invalid.
Sense has a different line of kernels from CM7. Those kernels aren't interchangeable, and I don't know how many drivers do they share. Possibly that difference is responsible for the lack of 5GHz support.
Official MySense 2.3.4 supports 5ghz, I believe. Have you tried flashing it?

Are you sure, i was assuming it was on the hardware side...If that is so there is nothing you can do to get the 5ghz band
Hardware does support it. I saw a thread where someone posted that after getting the GB OTA they all of a sudden got 5ghz frequencies. Someone responded by saying the chip always supported it, but there was no driver in the kernel. That TMoUS must have added the modules into the new kernel.

I am having a similar issue with my wifi on my mt4g. My issue is that when i go into my network settings and turn on my wifi, it doesn't turn on and my settings is then put into error and force closed.
i was wondering if anyone else had similar issues with this. after hours of research i have come to the conclusion that it may be a hardware problem.
if anyone knows how to fix the wifi hardware on the mt4g please reply.
