Google music player - Xoom General

There was an article in the ny times this morning discussing the google's upcoming announcement of its music cloud service. What's interesting is that the initial beta is invite only and guess who is supposedly on the guest list. - xoom owners

Do you think it'll be pushed to us? I mean how do they get the beta to us?

It does say that it is going to be only Verizon Xoom owners.
Does this mean wifi only Xoom owners will have to wait like the rest of the world?

This is good news, but I am a bit disappointed that Google won't let me use my existing Google cloud storage and is instead doing some strange "song limit" thing.

Maybe it will be built-in to the upcoming update, that's why its delayed!

http://music.google.com/music/

offline caching looks badass

registered and about 20 minutes later, received the update to Music.

The update is in the market regardless of registration for an invite.
The key here is being able to upload your music to the cloud (up to 20,000 songs)
I don't think anyone has access to the uploader yet - but I even updated the music app on my epic.

^ when you go into settings, and click on your google account... do you have "music" available to sync?
just wondering

[Q] !Contacts Facebook updates GB Leak!

Is there a reason that I cannot see any Facebook status updates in contacts on the rooted GB update? Am i supposed to, or is this functionality motorola took out?
Whats even more frustrating, is that since i'm running blurr, I cannot use androids default system for Facebook integration!
Is there a way to fix this, or is this just the way it is?
I have heard that google is getting away from facebook. I don't think they are integrating facebook into google much anymore. I think if you search around droidxforums you will find more on it.

Yep. A lot of it comes down to Facebook's security -- or lack there-of.

If any lag it's going to be on the carrier side of it. [Say, when you use 2GB the first two days on Tmobile and go to Edge speeds or the same with Verizon]
Not the server side.
Depending, obviously, but was more of a joke than anything. I'm pretty pumped for this though. I know some people are going to be bummed about it being a personal music locker essentially - for the forseeable future - but being able to put up a ton of music is what I really want.
And 20k? That's stupid big. Just hope it's not too long of a wait. Lucky XOOMers.

I'm sure it won't take XDA long to find a way for all to use it.
Also, while it would be good for Android to have a better competition vs iTunes....
How many music stores do we really need in this world?
True. Should be interesting. Should be lots of other interesting stuff announced / showcased as well. Lucky attendants!

I downloaded the music app from the market just now. It's the same music app that leaked on here a couple weeks ago. I also signed up for my beta pass. I am patiently waiting just like I did for the google voice pass.

Does anyone know if there is FLAC support? If not Subsonic still wins (I was hoping to be able to turn off that subsonic server!)
FYI, just found this on Gizmodo:
http://ca.gizmodo.com/5800490/google-will-remove-your-music-from-its-cloud-if-it-infringes-on-copyrights
Via: Gizmodo
Word from Google IO is that Google Music will delete user MP3s, if the copyright holder has a legitimate claim against their music being on the server. And it will use the same backend tech to do so as YouTube.
For end users, this means that album/song leaks and pirated music will not be tolerated. And though it seems like it will be difficult to distinguish what's pirated and what's not, Google will probably use that same analysis tech they use for playlists to verify you have the right to upload that track to Google Music (spectral analysis and/or watermarks could expose rips from different sources). And that means if you've happened to download a leak or any unauthorized rip from the internet, then uploaded it to Google Music, it could be taken down.
And not that Google is wrong for doing so, but that will kill the appeal of Google Music for some people out there. [Google IO]

Google Music

Has anyone else gotten their invites to the google music beta? it's pretty cool! I only wished we could use it with the stock music app. The Google Music app is kind of lame... but still love the fact that I can listen to all my 60gigs worth of music on my EVO where ever I am
are they still taking requests for invites? I completely missed that whole unveiling.

Has anyone tried any non-DRM material yet? Curious if they've locked that down the way they claimed they would. I lost all my mp3 DRM keys in a tragic boating accident.

I don't own a Xoom but my brother does. A quick trick to get a fast invite was just to log into my Google account on his xoom and download an app from the market. That way it registered as me being a Xoom user So, just find xomeone that has a Xoom, log into your Google account for a minute on their Xoom, download some random app on the market and remote your Google account for their Xoom works like a charm. Three other friends have used my brother's Xoom to get a quick invite to the service.

Google+

What is this thing lol i finally got an invite and have NO IDEA where to start and what to do lol
can somebody break this down for me?
all i know is that you pretty much have to get invited and invite people to truly enjoy this. amirite?
To be as basic as possible, think facebook, only better features and more customization. Not to mention more privacy. But its in beta and just beginning. Get friends on there, get people from here on there, start creating groups (circles) and start posting.

It only uploads them to a private folder.
The biggest thing right now for me is that you can't hide yourself on the service. Facebook has a way to completely hide your profile - on Google+, your name, profile picture, and gender must be there and searchable. A couple of my friends work with potentially violent, crazy people on a daily basis and definitely don't want to be publicly searchable on social networks, making Plus a nonstarter.
Can anyone spare an invite. Despite the many publisher accounts I have with Google I can't get myself an invite. Would sure appreciate it. Thanks guys!!
im now able to invite people so then people that PM me already i sent them out this morning.

From what I understand, google+ requires a gmail account and becomes part of your gmail email, connected to that specific email forever.
As for the google+ app it's only available on android because it's still in testing. Probably in a few months they will release an app for the iPhone when google+ is out of testing (if Apple approves the app)

Yahoo's app was released on May 25th 2011, while Microsoft App was released on October 7th 2011... That's a five and half months difference between the two.
Which explains why Yahoo's app got more downloads and eventually recognized as a top developer.
So in Short... nothing to see here folks, move along.

Don't see why this would surprise anyone... Yahoo! has more of a portal reputation than Bing, which is mostly just search to the average consumer. There's also the simple fact that Yahoo! Mail is, I believe, the number one web-based email provider in the US (Gmail has an embarrassing fraction of its userbase). If you could reason that a giant chunk of Android users go to Yahoo on a regular basis, it makes sense that many would also use Yahoo apps. There's an enormous misconception in the tech savvy community that Yahoo is a dead last-gen service that "nobody uses anymore". The tech savvy aren't necessarily all that aware of reality, after all.
No worries, though. I assure you, Google likes Microsoft enough to throw Exchange support in without asking first.

Does the Yahoo app comes preloaded on any devices to potentially pad their downloads? Not a big fan of Bing, but I like their Windows app.

I wouldn't say an EMBARASSING fraction, but yes, Yahoo Mail is #1 in the USA and Hotmail is #1 worldwide.
