WP7 Update nevers finishes - Lost storage - Focus General

I intalled a PNY 16gb microSD card, formated it, re-boot my Samsung Focus phone. Total Storage shows as 22GB available.
I then commect to Zune for the March update.
Update never finishes but the phones comes up. I disconect and the phone works and shows new OS 7.0.7008.0.
Firmware doesn't change - stays at 2103.10.10.1
Now total storage has dropped to 15.73 GB.
Without the microSD card the phone took the March update ok and finished.
How do I get the March update to take AND have 22BG storage available?
Tony

without knowing exactly what else you have tried, since your phone took the march update without the card already, plug in the card now and reformat it hard reset. That should fix your problems. By the way if your phone has taken the march update your os version would be 7390. For more help specify what network you are on, which focus you have unbranded branded if you have used any unlocking methods and so on.
You might have to use the windows phone tool provided by microsoft. Do you get any timeout errors or anything when you were updating?

Have tried everything, can't update to 3.1 :(

Hello everyone!
I have been trying to update my transformer to 3.1 since I bought it (from the past week)
I have tried everything including:
Following the official PDF and manually downloading the update
Factory Reset then searching for any OTA updates
With manually downloading the update, I placed the microsd card into the transformer while it was on and it popped up with an exclamation mark, so I clicked that and it gives me the chance to choose which update and then after accepting, reboots (so far so good), it goes to an little android with a box, with an arrow coming out of it and then it turns into an exclamation mark (I'm guessing that this is not good..) After a few minutes it finishes and boots up saying System has been updated. Except it's still on Android 3.0.1 and build number 8.2.3.13
(I have also tried turning it on with volume pressed down, then click up - this returns the same results)
I have just factory reset in the hope of being able to retrieve an OTA update.. but still no avail
I have also tried registering to vip.asus.com (to check if S/N was good) and it worked
I am really confused and a little scared as to if I should return it soon incase I received a faulty unit.
I am in Australia, using the ww sku update. I'm just getting no where
You haven't "tried everything" if you didn't resort to custom ROMs
When I got my TF101. I got the FOTA within minutes.
Try redownloading the update. It may have been corrupted the first time.
download it manually
Em.. just download it from the Asus website.
Here is the update for the US version:
Copy the file and put it on an sd card. Put it into the sd slot on the side of your tablet and a message should appear asking you to update.
You may wish to call Asus and check the serial number

However since he is an AUSSIE I think he needs the WW version.
Success!
Thanks to all of the replies
I finally got it working!! I redownloaded the WW as suggested and put it on the micro sd card and it still didn't work, so I decided to use my other micro sd card (that lives in my X10 mini pro) and it worked!!!
Thanks again to everyone!
I don't quite know why it didn't work for my original micro sd card. If anyone is reading this thread and still having problems, this is what I found:
- micro sd 2GB (no brand , made in Taiwan) - didn't work
- micro sd 8GB (Lexar SDHC Class 4, made in Korea) - worked first go
It also doesn't need to be a blank sd, as long as the Asus folder is in the root folder.
Hope this helps any others out there
Now I'm off to check out Android 3.1

[Q] My Dell Venue Pro won't(can't?) hard reset. Any ideas?

Hi guys,
So I just got a DVP off Ebay and the seller did say that the Venue Pro was working, it just wouldn't recognize his 32GB microSD card. Now I knew about the problem with using just any old microSD card so when I finally got the phone yesterday, I tried the Settings -> About -> reset your phone -> yes -> yes -> pull battery -> remove microSD -> add microSD -> turn on... however, every time i do that, the phone seems to just soft reset.
Now my case seems to be different than others because somehow, the phone is working... without a microSD card. I get 15MB of storage and 10MB free when i look in the Settings -> About. I've tried everything from timing my battery pull from when the little blue flash at the bottom of the boot screen appears (before the Dell logo) to pull it after the "Windows Phone" logo appears and even after i soft reset and I pull the battery after it says "restarting".
Also, connecting the phone to Windows while on WP7 gives me an unknown device. However, if i use the camera + volume down + power key to boot, Zune recognizes it and says nothing can be done because I don't have a saved restore.
If anyone else has any suggestions, please post it. I'd rather get this fixed than force a return on Ebay. (I'm thinking my problem has something to do with the fact that my phone *DOES* work without a microSD card so it's not attempting to reformat my microSD's every time I reset it)
Thanks.
p.s. my phone has engineering sample on the battery, so it must be an old one.
edit: messed around with EM and the RD screen and under the SD card option it says 32GB, 114 (not OK)
OS version: 7.0.7004.0
Firmware: 2250.1500.7004.029
Hardware: 112.576.2.0
radio software:2.2.50.15
radio hardware: 8250
Bootloader version: 7.27.1.0
Chip SOC version: 0.36.2.0
Anyone got any idea?
wp7 is VERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! picky about SD cards
what card is it and why do you think it will work with wp7
also, it isn't about how FAST the card is (that is what the number is) but the speed of the random read/writes.
you are still on the old firmware so don't use wifi!
connected to zune will it update?
what version att or tmobile?
was it that cheap that you just didn't get it from dell? ($199 if you play your game right)
Zurvv said:

Yes, I know... but it SHOULD at least try to format the card and fail... it just works without the card... and shows 15.7MB
what card is it and why do you think it will work with wp7
also, it isn't about how FAST the card is (that is what the number is) but the speed of the random read/writes.
again, the system should try to format then fail at the very least

my wifi works... and it's not ALL those with old firmware that fails...
connected to zune will it update?
nope, the phone when it's on doesn't get recognized by Zune, appears as unknown hardware
what version att or tmobile?
t-mobile
was it that cheap that you just didn't get it from dell? ($199 if you play your game right)
it was $200 and I don't need to start another contract with T-mobile... if you can show me how i can get it for $200 w/o contract, i'm all ears as I'm already on contract with T-mobile.

Hi, thanks for the reply, that may be the case, but when I get into EM app -> RD test -> SD Card it says:
SD Insert status: Inserted
SD card status: 114 (not OK)
SD card size: 32 GB
if the slot was bad, it wouldn't be able to see the card right?
lol i bid against you for this phone
Hi!
I have exactly the same situation. After unbrick not working SD 32 Gb, shows that the free 100Mb of 400 ... 3 months to work well.

[Q] SD Card Encrypted in Mango update process, now won't boot

On my HTC HD2 (T-Mobile LEO) I have been working with several releases of WM7 trying to get to Mango. I was able to get HSPL to 2.08 and the radio to 2.15. I loaded build 7592 and got it fully configured. Everything was great (except if the battery died everything erased and I was forced to reload..never figured what I was missing on that one) but the real problem came when I tried to run the 7720 update. My SanDisk Class 2 16GB card was encrypted in the process and when the phone booted back up after running the RCTtoRTM I got an error that the card had "been changed or wasn't compliant" and the card was useless at that point. I cannot reflash the phone back to a non-encrypted WM7 version because the card is now not usable and I cannot find a tool to de-crypt or format the card over. So now I have a phone that cannot be flashed to Mango, and a 16GB plus a 32GB card that are both Encrypted and unusable. Where do I go from here? I even tried to just reverse everything and get back to stock ROM but witht he Hard SPL I cannot do that (not easily from what I understand).
Help!
If I am posting in the wrong place please don't shoot me, this is my first ever post.
you must upgrade without card if card not compatible (not recognize after mango upgrade)
make hard reset (settings - about - reset)
dont boot to WP7
take out card
turn on phone and upgrade to 7392
again do hard reset (settings - about - reset)
insert card and now upgrade to 7720
this is old trick, dont know who posted first but i salute to him
also you have posts how to unlock card

you did not mention magldr. Cant believe it would work without it. Is it installed?
Gave up trying both methods
Thought i go back but When i try to install xbmod NODO rom on the same sd card that i used to install v2 .. The phone keeps rebooting
Do i need a new sd card before nodo will work? As i got no other ways of recovering
Thanks for your advice

Definitely seems that a new SD card may solve your problems, especially if you had problems with XBmod's NODO rom as well. But beware, as even "confirmed-working" cards may not work with WP7. I would think hard before splashing out £££ on a 32Gb class4 for a 2 year old phone, which may or may not work

Ah yes, forgot to mention that....I am running aMAGLDR v1.13.
So I had the two cards that are locked, my 16GB SanDisk class 2 and a brand new PNY Class 4 32GB. In my efforts to get to Build 7720 I went ahead and just returned the 32GB PNY back to the retail store I bought it at and gave them a little white lie about the reason why the card isn't working..... so they gave me a new card and now I am trying to get the process going again. Build 7592 doesn't want to see any updates to get me to the 7392 build which is where I need to be to get the Mango process started. I looked for a manual way to load 7392 but all I could find was instructions on how to use Zune to do it. And that is getting me no where! I am still working on creating the Linux boot CD to get my 16GB card back though.
I inserted a freshly formated SD card into my hd2 enter magdlr enable& cleared enter USB flasher installed v2 native rom left it on welcome page then installed 7004-7392 via cab sender .phone started set up date and time.sent deviceprovisioning.cab succes open Zune update available to 7403 success checking for updates 7720 available keep getting errors ..thats where I'm at..no hard resets or tricks applied it was that simple took About 40min..
PNY 32GB Class 4 SD card, SanDisk 8GB Class 2 SD Card, SanDisk 16GB Class 2 SD Card. All three are toast now. The KillDisk solution doesn't work for me. Every one of these that gets encrypted and then says it won't work when the phone boots I then run through the KillDisk process and it says its got 3.74GB of space to format and thats it. I cannot get any of them to work, they all break on the first reboot after the 7720 update. Today I spent 12 hours solid working on this. I am pretty much about to give up. Its 2:00am and I am beat. Thanks to all who tried to provide help, but most of the info I got was only 1/2 info.....broken English or missing key points on how to get a particular build loaded first so the rest of the process can complete.
Sorry for the "down" attitude......I am really bummed. Going to go crash now.
I am in the same boat as where I started, can't get back to Stock ROM, I keep getting errors that the SD card is not recognized. Only now I don't have an SD left to boot with....they are all jacked up. Guess that means a quiet weekend!!! LOL..sigh.

go ask any of your friends if they have Nokia phone, and use theirs to format. tested&working 100%. Nokias are even smart enough to display warning about SD being locked with pin, and only way to unlock is format (because code is generated randomly and preserved only in WP7 data storage)
i retrieved my Kingston SDHC 8gb class 4 that way-and yes it doesn't work well with wp7
now i'm asking you guys, if there is any SD card with 100% success rate on wp7... i'm looking for something cheap (4-8gb, being a college student), and i know about sandisk being most compatible, but some say it did not work for them

why after update by zune happend this problem?now what can i do?
What ROM are you using?
I found the Zune update process very problematic. There are certain cabs that you need to install via cab sender before you can update via Zune. Then, sometimes Zune won't allow you to update unless you do some tricky thing like jump up and down singing Merry Christmas to yourself in the mirror.
I have had the most success going straight from 7004-7720 using cabsender and then, installing the deviceprovisioning cab, then using Zune to do the cleanup update (which has its own errors).
thanks

Ok. We're using the same ROM. Getting from 7392 to anything above, via Zune, requires the deviceprovision.cab mentioned in the BUILD 7403 section of the second post on that page.
I can tell you it was a massive p.i.t.a doing the updates using Zune. Zune lays down each update one at a time. Some install w/o issue, and others require the dance I previously mentioned in order to get past the "your device is up to date" message.
If it's not too inconvenient, you might as well reflash the original ROM and do the one shot 7004-7720 cab. It, too, may not be successful on the first few tries. I had no issues with it until Friday, when I was trying to partition my SD card. Then it was giving me errors during the update before the partitioning process. Lather, rinse, repeat. It works.
So, after flashing and updating via cab to 7720, then install device provisioning.cab and use Zune to update to the Mango cleanup. It will most likely give you error 801800b4 or something like that. Unplug, reboot both computer and Device and try again. Only one reboot for computer, but reboot device each time update fails. It will go through in 1-10 attempts. HA!
SD card problem - once WP7 is installed with an SD card, it takes it and considers it internal memory. Basically, a RAID 0 setup. You cannot swap the card with any other and have WP7 function. They can only be changed out during the hard reset process. Anyway, because of this, WP7 encrypts the SD card and renders it essentially useless to any other device. To bypass this, you need the devstorage_lock.cab from here:
http://xboxmod.sylvester20007.com/cabs/sdcard/
After this is installed, it stays part of your WP7 installation until you have reflashed - it survives hard resets. If you want to use your SD card for another purpose (and not with WP7 again), then run that program in WP7 and you can use your card. In the event that you want to dual boot with Android, you'll need to run that each time you power down WP7 before booting into Android.
thank you so much for your
Interest
now if i use this card for only wp7 idont need to format again?
ex.if do task 29 and reflash the wp7 rom again dose i need to format sd again like android rom?
No, you don't need to reformat the card. Upon flashing or hard resetting, WP7 grabs the card right up.
thanks so much dr anseio

phone won't detect sd card after marshmallow update

Hello everyone, I have a serious problem and I was searching over the internet to find a solution but failed. So I had a Ale L21c185b120, then I updated it with the firmware c185b525 middle East and African version available on the Huawei consumer pk page. After the update everything was fine, all my apps, files, sd card was there. But I noticed that phone was a bit slow so I decided to factory reset it. I took the Sd card out of the phone, also the card tray was out and I did a factory reset. Here starts the problem. When phone rebooted and I put the card again, nothing happens and card was not read by the phone. There was not a single error etc like card is damaged etc. It's just like phone doesn't give a damn either sd card is in or out. I checked sd card in another phone and also in Pc. It's been read by both means card is perfectly fine. Even I formatted the card from Pc but still in vain. Also no other card is being detected by the phone now. I just wanted to confirm is it a firmware or hardware problem?
BTW phone went on notifying me of new updates and now it's on b572. Plz help?
...
Yes its updated, its now on c185b572. Still problem is there. i am not able to find a solution so it means i can't save a trip to service center.
...
Hopefully.. thanks for ur time bro..
