I've just got a Motorola Atrix and I'm now waiting for the unlock code, but I've also notice that the phone asks me for a motoblur account. Is this mandatory for using this phone? I've tried creating an account but the website just stays in a loop saying "creating your motoblur account" and nothing happens (I've tried in 3 different browsers and the same things happens in all of them). Anyway, do I REALLY need this account?

Well I was able to skip it, but you need it for OTA. Although you could get updated by flashing.
I just created a spam email account for the Blur BS...

You can use the phone without the sim and you can also bypass the BLUR registration. This is what I did while waiting for my unlock code

ccrows: Not sure why you created a separate account. I haven't really noticed any increase in spam in my usual inbox even after using it to register a Blur account.
Thanks! It's good to at least test and configure the phone while I don't get the unlock code.
One question, I can see the previous owner's motoblur account with a lock symbol in front o it. I've checked the options and I could add my gmail account but could not remove the old owners' motoblur account. How do I do this?

Good point. I did a factory reset early on and I think it prompted for the Motoblur login. Unless Google launches a remote wipe app, why wouldn't you want to have a blur account? You'd think remote wipe would be a native feature to better support android in a corporate environment.

No idea, but it's an easy process to follow if you need to re-do. Having a blured phone is not a bad thing in my opinion as you can track the location and remote wipe if needed.

Ok,
Just going to through this up in a thread of its own. If this info needs to be added to a newbie's thread fine, but I have not seen one.
This is a lesson learned with the Evo that as a NEW android user I was completely unaware of:
--You MUST have a GMail account. An old Google account will not work.
--You only get ONE CHANCE at entering the correct account for your phone set up.
It seems that while other android phones have tricks to work around changing accounts...the Evo does NOT. You must do the factory reset from...Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.
YES you will lose all the screen customizations you made, all the emails you have set up, all the settings you wanted.
NO you do not lose data as all my test pictures are still there.
The GMail account must be set up BEFORE you try to add it to the phone. (This seems to be the gist of lots of stuff on internet and this is way I did it. Set it up through my old Google account before adding to the phone during the set up process.)
There you go. Very important and frustrating tip for those of us that are new to android and especially to the Evo.
....
are you sure?
you can't just got Accounts and Sync and change it there?
I can't imagine why not
You can't go to menu>settings>accounts and sync>google and remove your Google account?
if your rooted you can easily change google accounts
i found this goodie back in the hero days messing around with accounts.db
adb shell
sqlite3 /data/system/accounts.db "delete from accounts where type = 'com.google';"

No, you cannot just go Accounts and Sync...tried it. When you go into the google account you have a button below that says...'Remove Account'. When you try you get two pop-ups. First says you will lose account information. Second says you must do the factory reset.
So...anyone else want to call me a troll before they actually TRY what they are suggesting? 'Cause I tried three different approaches I found when searching. None worked.

Or maybe I just don't know any better, I don't have this problem with my phone, I've accidentally entered my Google account incorrectly and I always just re-entered it and it worked just fine.

Then you aren't being entirely clear on what your point is. I have no idea what you are talking about given that I know for a fact that:
A> I am usually drunk when I try roms, which usually require a full wipe and account info on 1st boot...which I usually screw up.
and most importantly,
B> That the day I got my phone I forgot my password for a good 5 minutes at radio shack and tried wrong passwords repeatedly until I got it right.
Not to mention
C> I have changed gmail accounts multiple times, even in those brief hours while I was still 100% stock.
...and I have no idea what a "google account" is otherwise. It very may well be 'a thing', but I have no idea what it is.
If I managed to evade your point, please--for the sake of the forum and your own well being--articulate it a little better.

Your Google account is basically your Gmail account. All though I do believe it is a seperat account. It also allows you to link youtube, latitude and a few other Google tools or services.
Hmmm, Home screen, menu, settings, applications, gmail and or market, then clear data, and or clear cache ... worked for me... then I had to re-enter my password and user name, ill be damned if i didn't screw it up. Not even drunk, course i didn't forget it for 10 minutes, just about 30 seconds.

That's what I assumed, but, you never know. Google is a little to smart to go for anything less than a unified ID. Having a handful of disparate and overlapping accounts (and their associated 'sign up process') seems like an annoying waste of time, storage and bandwidth.
Btw, I'm not trying to be a ****. If you are in fact having these issues it may be an isolated incident.
I had the same issue as the original poster. I believe what is being said is that the "google" account you enter the very first time, is the one used for your identity on the phone, and to change it requires a factory reset on the Evo.
Personally I have 3 google accounts, one is gmail and the other two are google apps. All of my contacts are under a google apps account.
Well, turns out, if you enter your gmail account not knowing the difference when you originally setup the phone, it stays stuck in there and won't let you change it without doing a full factory reset. I realized I needed to use my google apps account instead and had to factory reset to change it.
This is of course before I attempted any rooting fun, I had just came from WinMo on a Touch Diamond previously and hadn't read up on how any of that worked at the time.
Hope this helps clarify things.
Can't you just go to setup and redo your setup??

Well, condiering I've had my gmail account for over 3 years and used it to set my evo up with, it's not new - it was 3 years ago but it sure wasn't new when I got my evo. Therefore, an old gmail/google account works just fine.
And, I just added me other gmail account without any problems. Gave me the options to sync mail, contacts, ect., too.
I think were missing your point here...or something.

I know what you mean, in a way. I guess it just depends on the person and the what your needs are. iGoogle for instance, you can set up your own home page, you can add all kinds of different widgets like latitude, translate, local search, wiki, tv guide. You can be updated when concerts and such are appear in your town. I love latitude, I just link it to my phone, if anyone ever stole my phone I could just go to my google page on my pc and id automatically know the location and I'm pretty sure theres a free service for this same thing that adds the ability to send messages, not texts, to the phone and wipe it if you want. Pretty dang useful if you ask me. I love it, I just open mozilla and everything is there, mail, rss feeds and news, weather everything

Ok, this makes since, I guess I never noticed because I have one account. I KNOW that if you enter in an incorrect user/pass it will just promt so. then just re-enter
Anyway to remove the blur "account" page. I see that if I change sims it forces me to login to the existing blur account. What if I want to completely de-blur the phone? Is that possible? Or not because motorola says so?
Not possible. No way to replace with stock accounts.
I am having many problems with these built in accounts. I was having problems with YouTube until I realized that I needed to login with the actual YouTube credentials and not the gmail ones.
I am now having similar problems with picasa, but as I am new to picasa, I don't know what my other logins would be other than my gmail ones. Basically every time I try to upload multiple photos from the gallery folder on the phone, it returns a message that says "failed to receive login information".

Ok more info on picasa. When I "quick upload" a single photo from the gallery they will go to picasa. Its only when I multi select photots and try to upload that it won't take. It still says "unable to retrieve user info" or something. Another note is that when the upload to picasa screen comes up, its not pulling my albums down from the picasa site, so I can tell right away that something isn't communicating the info.

Try installing Gallery 3D from the market. It's the stock gallery app. Much better.
Figured it all out. I HOPE many people end up finding this thread. I went through a lot to figure this out. The following fix will work for both Picasa and YouTube problems where the error pops up saying that login info could not be retrieved. The problem is that you can not use the same email address for motoblur as you do the rest of the logins. You MUST set your motoblur to another email address when setting the phone up, preferably a non-gmail address. Unfortuantely for those of us who already setup the phone, the only way to change the motoblur email address is to wipe the phone and set everything up again.
I can confirm that this is 100% working. Now... If you don't want to setup the phone from scratch I can show you work arounds.
For YouTube, if you go into the YouTube app, hit menu, go to "my channel" (make sure the phone is not in landscape when you do this) then look at the top right and click logout. Then log back in, instead of putting your gmail address you can enter your YouTube user name and password. This will allow you to upload videos directly from the UI and gallery to YouTube.
A work around for Picasa is to set Picasa as the option in the "quick upload" menu in Gallery. If you go to gallery and click menu, then settings, you can set Picasa as quick upload there. Then whenever you are looking at a photo you can click menu and select quick upload, it will then upload straight to Picasa. The only problem is that you can not select multiple pictures and upload at once to Picasa. You have to do the real fix mentioned above to send multiple pictures to Picasa at once.
I reccommend you all do the real fix while the phone is still new and not that hard to wipe and start over.
Apparently it is possible, NO IDEA how i did it though D:
now when i take sim cards out it doesn't ask for motoblur account. Some reason I also lost all my contacts, don't know if it was because I lost my motoblur account or if it was a coincidence?

If you freeze items through TiBU this happens. You can remove the need for MotoBlur that way. But to go non-root there is no way to remove MotoBlur.
Also, I have no issues and I have MotoBlur on same email as everything else.

Ok so a few hours ago, my phone is working perfectly fine. Then all I did was change to LauncherPro to check it out, clicked the contacts app and it somehow sent me to the dialer, I then checked the contacts tab in the dialer and there were NO contacts. So, I went back to my usual ADW and my contacts are gone there too!!
Yes, I made sure it was "all contacts" and I treid resetting my phone several times but with no results. Another interesting thing I noticed, my MotoBlur account is GONE from my accounts. So, when I take my sim card out and turn my phone back on, the phone does not ask for me to put in my motoblur account (good thing?).
Could the lack of a motoblur account somehow deleted my contacts (I have no idea how I got rid of the motoblur account). I have made no backups of my contacts (sadly) so my only option that I know of is to manually add them back, but hopefully maybe someone can shed some light on this situation. TIA
Edit: losing contacts not a huge problem, can manually put them back, but still want to know how i got rid of motoblur account.
Thats very odd indeed, your blur account got deleted... have your tried simply adding it back I think this would also bring back your contacts and when you said you went back to standard launcher did you uninstall it? I installed launcherpro once but that never happened to me.

I just purchased a HTC EVO Shift 4g I have looked over the suggested pages to answer my question and here it is. I made the mistake of deleting the previous users email address from android marketplace. I wanted to be honest and not use it. Since then I came to find out she has something called mikmik installed. I have tried a hard reset which did nothing and I was told then phone was flashed to cricket and supposeadly rooted but from a friends knowledge there is no marketplace sign in. Any help or any questions you have please get back to me. I would love some help on this matter.
Sincerely,
A Very Noob HTC Guy
First question, is it still on Cricket? Did you sign into your Google account? That is the only way you can access the Android Market from your phone. You must be signed into a valid Google account. When yopu try to access the Market it should prompt you to sign into your Google account. The MikMik? Do you mean a MikShifted G the Rom? A hard reset will not change the Rom. If you want a different Rom, you must flash a new one.
To answer your question yes I do still have cricket also I dont know how to answer this but I am in the accounts & sync screen where google comes up is that what your referring to. Also I am using the active sync under accounts & sync and its not being very helpul. I want to say yes to you question of the Mik Shifted G the Rom. The Message I keep getting is there are no phone android phones associated with this account please sign in with a different account.
Sign in with your Google account . Then it should be all good.

Even though you deleted their email off of the android market you could have went to gmail through your phone's browser and made your own gmail account (at say gmail.com) and went to your app drawer under set up and signed in under you gmail account . You can also sign in through under accounts n sync in your settings menu . But if you did a hard reset on a rooted phone idk . Hopefully it didn't erase any of your rom . If not get you a google email account and sign in with your email address and password(same password as your gmail email account) through any of the above options and voila the android market will come to life .

A Hard Reset will not erase any of your Rom. A Hard Reset will only restore the phone to just flashed condition, or in the case of an unrooted phone to fresh out of the box.

Hello,
I lost my phone last night, when I went out. I have stock Gingerbread, I was wondering if it was possible to somehow track my phones location, as my GPS and internet connect are always on. Any help in greatly appreciated.

You can remotely install apps onto your phone by signing into play.google.com with your Google account, selecting an app to install, and then selecting a device. If you are logged into your Google account on a phone, that phone will be listed as one of your devices. The app is then installed onto your phone, regardless of whether or not you have your phone on-hand at that time. This is how the app 'Plan B' works.
So to summarize: yes, you still need to be logged into your Google account on the device.
