I looked up davinciteam it cost me 14 bucks and they send you everything you need I did mine in 10 mins its all automatic so you can't screw anything up
Sent from my debranded play using the force
can you unlock bootloader/ root?
i would imagine it could be done cause the phone WAS locked to rogers but now its unlocked and with generic world firmware
root works no problem i used gingerbreak 1.2
Can you elaborate more on this please. This is pretty cool.
I just googled debranding xperia play and the davinciteam website popped up I looked into it and spent the 14 bucks (big whoop!) they emailed me their flashing tool with a username and password you get a list of firmwares to pick from then hit the go button 10 minutes later it was done just like that

did this uninstall all the rogers apps? is the phone fully unlocked now?

Yep there is no rogers crap at all and no rogers boot screen, gingerbreak works to root it but I haven't bothered trying to bootloader unlock it don't see the point yet

So what firmware choices were available for the R800a? When you say you debranded to world generic firmware do you mean the R800i firmware? Does this cause any incompatibilities (like not being able to use 3G since rogers is 850 vs int'l being 900/2100)
Thanks

check out www.davinciteam.com, but these were the choices for the r800a:
R800a 3.0.A.2.184 0001,0002,0003,0004 CUSTOMIZED US/BLACK WORLD-1-2-5
R800a 3.0.A.2.184 0001,0002,0003,0004 CUSTOMIZED US/WHITE WORLD-1-2-5
R800a 3.0.A.2.184 0001,0002,0003,0004 TELCEL GSM MX/BLACK WORLD-1-2-5
R800a 3.0.A.2.184 0001,0002,0003,0004 TELCEL GSM MX/WHITE WORLD-1-2-5
the "customized" is the world generic firmware and there are no compatibility issues 3G works perfectly, for the r800i there is like 86 choices check it out

I have a chance to buy a dell streak.. Fully unlocked from my Uncle.. Just got a quick question he got the OTA update from o2 when he was over seas.. so updated to 2.1
Now I was wondering if this phone would work on Bell Network in canada? Or is the frequency different then bells voice and 3g service..
Go to pdadb.net, or dells product site for the streak and compare those frequencies with your carriers, simple as that.

If it's the US version you will get voice and 3g on Bell. If it's the UK version you will get voice but you will not get any data. So make sure it's the US version!
I'm using an AT&T locked version on Rogers with the Rebel Simcard.

I would imagine that SonyStyle would sell 'generic' handsets rather than Rogers customized handsets. I guess you'd have to check with them to be sure.

So in other words, locked bootloader.
live test concludes we can't fastboot a rogers play.
I'm interested in buy this mobile phone in the USA, but I'm from Spain, and I need to use with Vodafone ES, It's possible to unlock and work's in Spain?
Because I read that use CDMA.
Very confused. The phone will work but isn't your phone the European version? Two different software's. Wish I had more info for you. I'm sure others will chime in.

Check the CDMA frequencies on your Spain Carrier and you'll need an Android Phone from Spain to port it if you want data. Otherwise, if they offer flashing, you could be stuck with only calls and texting working without data.

thanks to @Apollo89 again for his useful thread
root obtained with locked bootloader method by doomlord
can you upload your file?
Check my signature below
Curious, so the .74 builds aren't specific to the "3" (hutchinson) networks.
This is not a generic rom. 1270-3839 is the customisation number for T-Mobile NL. Generic NL is 1270-4975.

Will give the 74 T-Mo a shot. It's my Provider and the NL Boarder is just 10min away %) , so there shouldn't be any issues > Thanks for sharing dude

Just out of curiosity, is wifi calling specific to T-mobile USA or is it an available feature on European T-mobile roms/phones too? I have a c6606 and the only thing keeping me from updating to a 4.2 rom is the lack of wifi calling.

I cant answer that question for you so you will have to find your answer in a different section.
However there is a possibility to use an app called KPN bellen that uses Wi-Fi (for Dutch kpn users)

Would not recommend you.
I personally was seduced by greater build version...
Of course I was fully aware that this higher number is just because of the specific provider's build, but anyway decided to give it a shot (since it's my Dutch provider as well).
Holy crap.....
The T-Mobile start screen is staying for ages on reboot, unnecessary bloatware, but MOST disgusting thing is.....
It does NOT have LTE option in menu Mobile Networks Settings -> Network Mode......
Huh... and this company brings officially 4G in November, and company's specific firmware does not have an option to choose it in settings...... wow , what a bunch of a***holes.
So, I'm now back to the Generic NL(1270-4975) 10.3.1.A.2.67 and happy For me it again proves that the network related builds are always inferior to generic.....even if you use the build for your own mobile network...
After delete all overlay apk, lte option appered in selection menu.
I've compared all application over fw67. Nearly all of them same except signature date.
Plus some different camera files.

If you completely read the article by T-Mobile you would have seen they are going to push a software update to phones that support 4g starting November 18 to enable it.

This is the thread about the present 2.74 firmware. People do not need TM "blessing" and wait when TM finally allows something , what our phone is capable and enabled right out of box. That is exactly the point discussed, that no one wants to be bossed by providers when they provide the inferior updates.

Yes it's about present .74 firmware, but why should they support a functionality they do not offer(yet)?
The more you enable, the more errors you can get. By the way, the Rom can use lte, but you just have to enable it in service menu.
If you have another provider, then why bother with using t-mobile firmware at all? They don't offer 4g, so you can't select it. From November 18 4g is officially rolled out in a couple of mayor city's, and from November 18 t-mobile customers will get a firmware update which will enable the 4g checkbox.
