So, a buddy and I were bored the other night and decided that I wanted a custom battery cover. I bought a sticker, cut out, stuck it on, sanded around it and painted it. This is how it turned out... I was pretty happy with it.
Before the sticker was removed.

Looks great, mind taking pictures of it on the actual phone?
No problem. I gotta wait for my wife to let me use her inspire though. I'll get some as soon as possible.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Thanks, what kind of paint did you use and where might I get it? Also any tips you could give me if I try this would be great!
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I just used a regular gloss spray paint that I bought at a farm & fleet (farm supply store by me) you could by it at any wal-mart I'm sure. When you sand it, make sure you use at least a 400 grit for the battery cover and at least a 600 grit if you do any wet sanding on the paint. I wet sanded once and don't even think it helped. Make sure you put a couple coats clear coat before you put it back on the phone!!!

Here it is on the phone. Kind of a bad picture but I couldn't hold my wifes phone steady enough. I really like the way the black and green contrasts.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
And if you can see how much worse the paint looks in this picture than the first ones, that's why you need 3-4 coats of clear coat. I haven't had time to get to that part and I used it for a day and it didn't hold up too well. No I'm using a backless phone. Need to get the clear done soon!

Thanks a billion for your help (Thanked) I might try this one-day; you could (unofficially) sell these
oh snap that is on the actual battery cover! i wouldnt have the balls to do that to my battery cover. LOL. but looks good!
I actually wanted to sell these. I just don't really know what to charge for them. Let me know what you guys would pay for one. We can do a lot of different designs depending on detail.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I personally would buy one of those for $20 max (But only because I'm a poor Highschool student ) they're cool
i wouldnt put that on my phone if it were free
If you don't like it, don't post about it.

Seriously, nobody is forcing you to get one... Is it your time of the month or are you just STOOPID

That is really cool but it's up to $32.00 + $7.00 shipping now with 14 bids and 3 days 7 hours left to go!
I would love to have one but for a battery cover that's to pricey for me
gadget!
Only an idiot would pay that price for a real red back.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using Tapatalk
now it's up to $63.37 with 22 bids!
gadget!
That is ridiculous
It's certainly not...around $50 for a rare pre-production accessory on a popular phone? Sounds reasonable to me...
It's all about personal preference, it is rare, it should be kept and not used due to rarity, now, if your looking for just the red back door, take yours off, and paint it.
I'd pay $50 for the door, and use it!
Sold for over $100... lol
Wow I got mine for $19.95
Uh...where?
Well I got it (not the one from ebay, but he had another I made a separate deal for), and it was totally worth it:

Really, I'd rather get one day out of mine than carry a phone that has a back look like that. It is just waaaay too bulky looking.
How did you get your hands on a DZ in Bulgaria? I have been waiting for this phone here forever!

Hi, I could not ignored your cover. I just got my Desire Z yesterday and it already got a tiny scrach on it... i bought a cover before i got the device but when i installed it the screen didn't "locked" and when i tried to remove it its almost broke the phone... BTW i like how the rubberized plastic feels. (it started to twist the metal frame..) I will be happy if you could tell me what are u using.
and other general tips (maybe its not the place i don't know...) (BTW i use a chip screen protector i hope its not a problem).
thanking you in advance,
Oded
Lol, nice one dude

I'm using a vinyl sticker from Skinit.com and your general run-of-the-mill snap-on clear case from eBay, although I'm on my second one right now. If the thing doesn't fit on perfectly, stress cracks start developing around the tabs that fit on the phone.
I'm contemplating switching over to a translucent silicone case, but the checkerboard pattern is kinda ugly.
Thought this was cool. I took off the AT&T logo off of the back cover of my AT&T Atrix. I took a penny and slightly went over the att logo with it( do not press just slightly go over with penny) and the att logo should come off without any scratches.

Looks good. I will try it too.

that actually worked pretty good. Thanks.
I took it all off(AT&T, M blur, and HD Video). Nothing better than an unbranded phone. If only the front glass didn't say Motorola.
Sent via the power of a unicorn's horn.
I saw this the first week the phone was released and I still haven't done it...haha. Cool mod, but old!
Did this a year ago.
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
WARNING. when i did this i could still see the logos pretty easily. so i kept at it and went right through the nice finish. oops. anyway im just gunna paint an android across the back now
This worked great for me with a sugar cube. Applying a little pressure appeared to make no difference, but with quite a bit of pressure I could get the logos off without scratching the back at all.
Sugar Cube ftw!
I have a chunk of raw sugar that must have gotten wet, let's see how we do.
Penny worked just fine. I was worried about scratches but there are none. Thanks.
i used my nail
I put my zagg shield on back cover with instructions
Seriously...... dude........ thankyou. I was online looking all day yesterday.

I did it with a penny too. At first, It just started to chip a little, so i decided to go ahead and remove it.
So I Know everyone has seen the red frame near the battery door, but I decided to swap the back cover completely with a white evo.
I think it looks awesome, but it was a pain to get the little metal connectors off the black housing and onto the white.

One of my coworkers did the same with their Evo, looks pretty awesome.
The white housing's paint can also be easily scratched off to make it red. The white battery cover isn't paint though so it stays white.
