Hi im new here so sorry if this should have gone somewhere else, but i have installed gingerbreak on my Xperia play and ever since then it wont mount sd cards they just unmount instantly, does anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks in advance!
Make sure your battery cover is on good, push hard around the edges. Under the battery cover there's a button that needs to be pressed for the SD card to mount.
Thank you! I hadent noticed that litte bugger, the xperia play back is quite horrible to remove and put back so I didnt want to push too hard.

I also got errors while trying gingerbreak.
It unmounted the sd card after the apk started, and didn't remount.
I knew of the button, but made sure the batterycover was on.
As soon as i restarted the phone (without removing cover) everything worked fine untill i started gingerbreak again, then the same error would reappear.
My impression was that this was a sw error?
I unlocked the bootloader and got root that way though...
im having the same issue

If you slide the pad out, it's much easer to put the cover back on

I don't know why, but at least once a day my sd card unmounts from my g1. I can't see pictures, use the camera, listen to music, and whatever else requires an sdcard. It's fine when its connected to my PC, it never unmounts itself.
Ive search google, this forum, and other android forums but came up with nothing. Only found other people with the same problem but no solution.
Its really starting to bug me and I'm not sure if its my sd card or my g1, any help would be appreciated..
i have rooted rc33 with jf1.41 with release-keys (watever that means)... this was happening before and after i installed jf1.41 with root.
sometimes it comes back if i take the sdcard and put it back in, but other times im forced to reboot. ive also had a few pictures got deleted by themselves, sounds like a fault in the sd card right?
thanks in advance
mario
I would backup whatever is on your sd card. Then format it, fat32. See if that fixes it. If not call up Tmobile and see if they send a replacement.
Ensure the cover is all the way flush, this happened to me and I had to rub the cover from the bottom up to make it sit flush. If it is not completely closed, it will think you pulled it open and unmount the drive.
its already frmatted n fat32, but ill try again..
for the cover, ur talkin about the plastic thing that goes over te sd port right? that has a sensor?

I'm just curious how you even remove the card without switching the phone off and pull out the battery first rendering the card already unmounted? (Since there's no juice in the device)

... i hv experienced some crazy things like this with my phone too.. like once after charging it to full.. it went to zero after some time.. i didnt used it for anything during tht period!!... other time it wasnt showing LED on while charging.. it wasnt showing its charging but showing battery at 70%... i restarted phone then it showed battery full!!
Just got the phone and am having a problem already. I am unable to mount my memory card onto the phone. If I mount it is just disconnects a few moments later. I have tried multiple cards and I know they all work.... gutted....
Make sure your back cover is on properly, I've noticed that when I take the back cover off the sd card unmounts and won't mount until its back on, its part of the design.

Try restarting the phone it would not recognise my SIM card until I restarted it.
cheers guys...I managed to get it working. Not sure if this is what did it but I mounted it then for the few seconds it was mounted I unmounted it; then plugged into PC which somehow recognized it even though it wasn't mounted at the time.
And ye I noticed that little white switch at the back which if you press down it unmounts the mem card.... never seen that on a phone before.
Cheers ppl
Hi!
If you have the case pulled from the phone, your SD is dismounted. Why? If yoy see your phone without case you must see a strange botton in the right of the flash, press it, if this botton is pressed, your SD works; when the case is on the phone this botton is always pressed.
Regards
Yeah that took me four hours to realize too...
Damn back cover!!!
I was just glad I read this topic before I got my play
I had 1 corner that just didn't clicked at first but I didn't notice untill I noticed no sd card was mounted.
Stupid Button
Oh my gosh, thanks guys! I have been messing with this stupid thing for hours! Why the extra little button Sony? To drive your customers insane?
I don't know why SE do a back cover control mounting SDCard..........
I had tried half an hour to find this problem when I bought the play...........
just return and exchange it!
theyve added the button so that we dont corrupt our SD cards, it automatically mounts + unmounts, thats a feature we should be happy about
So today I'm using my phone then the Car app started on its own and wouldnt close then I noticed my screen orientation would turn when I turned the phone( i have that disabled in settings) so i used TB and uninstalled Google Car and restarted my phone, couple seconds later Google car app pops up again and im like wtf? so i clicked it and it just exits to the home screen, now its just an ongoing service that wont close and i checked running services to see if it was there and it wasn't ?
Any help?
Im running Cyanogen nightly 88 i believe.
Now running MIUI and the same thing!
can remove it in root explorer, delete it from /system/apps. I guarantee it won't return

That's what I use is root explorer. I guess its just a preference but for me I never liked tb. Move to Ur SD card instead of deleting it in case u need it later. All my Sprint apps I removed are stored in a seperate folder on my SD card

hmmmm interesting.
after deleting it with root explorer you need to reboot the phone, uninstalling it via TB after deleting the apk will help as well
U can try cleaning the usb port out. I haven't tried it, but I have read of people shoving aluminium foil in and out of the port (with the phone off and battery pulled, of course) and blowing it out with canned or compressed air to clean it out. You could also hit it with a soft brush Dremel tool tip if you have one, that's what the guy at Sprint did to mine. If these don't work you might as well take it to Sprint for a new one. Your phone will continue to do it and , if it hasn't already, it will start to go to speaker phone on It's own randomly. Just be careful if u get a new one because they will try to update it before you leave and you can't root it. The guy at Sprint ( who is somewhat of a dousch) told me I had to update my phone even tho I told him I didn't want the update because I like 2.2 better (not really just wanted to root). But because there internet was slow when I went he didn't update mine at the time. Thank god! He did also say that they will be shipping with 2.3 very soon, so if the new bootloader is truly locked there will be no way to root. So you may want to get to Sprint ASAP if u can't fix it on your own. Good luck, hope you get it worked out, because I know how big of a PITA it can be.
clean the usb port. mine was doing this months ago. i ride a street legal dirt bike and usually keep my phone in my front jacket pocket of my mesh jacket so it gets all kinds of dirt on/in it. i used a q-tip and some alcohol and it has been fine ever since.
I recently received a used epic 4g when a friend replaced his phone, all was good but then yesterday the phone froze. I took the battery out and powered it back on it then took a long time to boot (2 minutes+) and once it finally did boot it was unusable and very unresponsive. I looked online and got into restore mode and then encountered a problem, my buttons at the bottom don't work therefore I could not hit the home button to select an option.
So I then used Odin to restore it (Used stock stuff). After I restored it it was working fine again. Then today i dropped it 2 feet off my bed and it went back to booting slow and then being unresponsive once booted. I then tried to restore it with Odin again but I made a mistake and didn't put the PDA file in and now my phone seems to be hard bricked (noob move I know).
I am considering sending it in for JTAG but I have some questions. Do you guys think the SLOW booting and unresponsive once booted issues were hardware issues? Will it just do that again eventually after I pay for it to be JTAG fixed? Also do you think they would be able to fix the buttons at the bottom? I would appreciate any advice.
Also please don't kick me when I am down, I know not double checking my Odin stuff was a dumb move, that's not what this thread is about.
So to just be sure, you can't power it on at all? The slow booting seems like a ROM problem. If you can get into Download mode you can fix it. If not, then you are definitely bricked and need to take it in.
If you could though, just reodin the proper files WITHOUT rushing.
I've dropped my phone everyday (I've even found out gorilla glass is ass since it cracked) but its always booted unless I did some dumb **** to it.

Thanks for the reply
Correct I can't get it to power on at all. A second opinion on whether or not there was a hardware issue would nice, it just seems odd to me that the exact same thing would happen again a day later. When I bricked it I accidentally only used a pit file. When I did it right the first time I followed a guide and had a pit file and a PDA file, I assume one of those is(or includes) the ROM but I don't really know a lot about this stuff. I am considering just selling this one on ebay as-is if you guys think its a hardware issue and getting a new phone but if not I'll send it to be fixed.

Thanks!! that did it. I had actually already tried that but tried it again when you suggested it I couldn't get it initially but kept trying and eventually tried unplugging it and plugging it back in while holding one and power the whole time and that got it. So was the slow boot thing happening twice just unlucky or is there something else I need to root or whatever?

My guess is the slow booting was data corruption. A clean install should fix that. After Odining in the stock EL30 run it like that for a few days to see how it is working before looking into rooting it and a custom ROM.

Thanks guys, saved me $50s should i have sent it in. I appreciate it. I watched a few of the videos on rooting it and I saw the recovery program used to root things lets you use the camera button as apposed to the home button for selecting things. Think I should switch to that since my bottom buttons are broken? It looked like I probably wouldn't be able to navigate back in menus after selecting something but that would be better then not being able to select anything.

If they are still broken after a fresh Odin then yes the newer CWM will work fine for you. There are widgets somewhere (don't remember) to add those buttions to your screen once you get it working right.
If the buttons really are toasted there are two fairly good onscreen button apps available. One is called Zmooth and the other is called Button Savior.
