can't access to recovery after flashing clockworkmod recovery - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi. I have a rooted HTC Magic 32A. I recently downloaded Clockworkmod recovery through ROM Manager and flashed it. After reboot, i can't access to recovery and when i boot to the rom it gets stuck on the animated android logo. I tried flashing old recovery and still have the same issue. Can someone please help me?
My phone specs:
Sapphire PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT 1.76.2007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO 6.35.10.18

it will take a while to load this first time. If not, take the battery out for a min, put it back in and boot using the traditional buttons (home and power). Hope it helps

i personally recommend amon ra recovery for this phone

I waited like an hour, but it didn't boot to the rom. It was stuck on the android screen. I also can't access to the recovery with home+power buttons, it boots automatically to the rom, which gets stuck.

I wanted to try the Clockworkmod recovery, because it gets so much praise. I guess i was wrong. I tried flashing back my old recovery which is the amon ra recovery, and still have the same issue.

Clockworkmod isn't compatible with your phone. You need a special recovery as your radio has a different MTD partition scheme. Try this one out.

Well, stupid me. before you posted. I tried unrooting my device through the HBOOT method using the sappimg.nbh and i got "wrong device id" error. Now my phone has the stock radio and hboot and it is s-on. When i try booting to the rom it get stuck on the vodacom screen. I only have access to bootloader. i don't know what has happened to my phone right now but i just need to root it again somehow, flash a custom recovery. I already have a nandroid recovery of my old rom.
EDIT: I didn't create a goldcard, because i can't boot to the rom, so i don't have access to adb.

Amon Ra's recovery is the best one for magic. I once tried ClockworkMod but it didn't have as much features as Amon Ra's.

So, do you know how can i get out of this mess?

Broken recovery image, need help fixing

Hi,
First off these forums have been a huge help since I first rooted my Magic back in August. So, a big thank you to everyone to begin with.
I tried scanning the forums to solve this new problem I'm having, but I've lost my Amon RA recovery installation and want to get some explicit help since I know if I do this wrong I'll be bricking my phone.
Here's my setup:

CyanogenMod 5.0.7 final
I had Amon RA installed up until today - an old version (around 1.3 I think) and since CM 5.0.8 was available via ROM Manager I thought I'd give that a try. But ROM Manager made me install Clockwork Recovery, overwriting Amon RA, and the installation of Clockwork failed or something. When I try to boot up into recovery, it just hangs at the green MyTouch screen.
I read the installation notes for Amon RA 1.7, but I could use some advice on how to do this without winding up with a brick. I can still boot into CM 5.0.7, but without a recovery image I don't think I'll ever update anything again since I can't do backups/restores.
The three installation options for Amon RA are:
- via fastboot: Can't use this, I don't think I have an engineering SPL.
- via adb: Can't use this, I can't boot into recovery at all
- via terminal: The BIG BOLD WARNING about not using this on CM 5.0.7 is pretty scary.
Can anyone help a brother out here? I'm stuck.
Thanks very much in advance for any suggestions or hints.

Try holding down the menu button while booting your phone up.
Keep holding until it starts to boot or for at least 30 seconds or so.
Make sure you flash the appropriate recovery. Did you have Amon_Ra G or H version prior to clockwork?

What is Menu+Power supposed to do when booting? I tried and the phone just booted up normally.
If I hold Home+Power which used to boot me into Amon RA (it was ~1.3G btw) the phone just sits at the green MyTouch bootimage screen.
Booting into fastboot via Back+Power works normally. If I had the right SPL I'd be set.
I guess the big question is, is installing Amon RA via terminal on CM5.0.7 possible yet, or are the memory problems kernel related and unavoidable without an upgrade?

The problem is supposedly fixed in 5.0.8. I've personally had a couple of issues flashing the Clockwork Recovery where the recovery would seem to flash alright but it would just hang at the splash screen. I found that if you held the Menu button while pressing the power button will allow the device to boot. Afterwards, if you flash the SAME recovery a second time it will work 99% of the time.
An alternative solution would be to use the goldcard method.
Create a nandroid backup before starting
Create your goldcard (if you don't already have it from your previous rooting process)
You should now have SHIP-S OFF. This will allow you to use fastboot.
Fastboot flash the latest radio again just in case (don't want to risk bricking).
Fastboot flash your recovery (1.7.0G)
Fastboot flash your stock hboot (spl)
Reboot while holding the home button and you should be looking at your new recovery.

It is rooted and running CyanogenMod-6.1.0-RC1-DS --- I also have the latest RomManager installed. I use to be able to boot into recovery and do nandroid backups and restores, but now when I try to boot into CW recovery it just hangs at the MyTouch Splash Screen forever. If I do "Power Button and Vol. Down" I get to fastboot menu, then if I go to Hboot I get a bunch of missing file errors.....

[SAPPDIAG2.img] .....no image OR wrong image found
[SAPPDIAG1.img] .....no image OR wrong image found
(some other stuff but it scrolls by to fast to read).........
If I reset the device it will boot back to CYMOD-6.1.0 and phone works fine.
Basically what I am trying to do is:
1) Get back into recovery CWR mode for backups and restores
2) update my Radio
But I need to fix #1 before I can attempt #2 ..... Please HELP !!
Thanks
Download ROM Manager from the market and re-flash Clockworkmod.

[Q] Is my MT3G 3.5mm bricked?

Hello all,
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for the last 3 days, and get nowhere. About a year ago, I rooted my Mt3g LE using the unlockr's goldcard method.
Everything worked fine until 5 days ago, when some programs stopped working. So I try to get into my recovery, and it's no longer there.
Now, I boot back into the ROM, and go to ROM manager to fix permissions. I reboot again, and try to get to my recovery. Still no, so then I got into my ROM, and clicked "Fix recovery".
Big mistake.
Now, my phone is stuck at the ROM loading splash screen. I found my goldcard, tried to flash the same SPL that it was rooted with [the top one on this page](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218)
and it tells me "Model ID Incorrect".
Then, I tried both of the other SPL's on that page, and it tells me the same thing. I checked my goldcard on my friend's phone, and it seemed to work okay.
summary= Can't boot into ROM, can't get into recovery, can't flash SAPPIMG's.
I can get into HBOOT and FASTBOOT / FASTBOOT USB on my phone.
The lastest thing I've tried is to [unroot](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=665814) but it tells me "Main Version is older! Update fail!"
Try the stock recovery (power off the phone, press and hold HOME+POWER, until you see the phone with exclamation sign, then let go and press HOME+POWER again, until you see the stock recovery, might take a few presses to get to it), with this rom "6db5d4965a64.OTA_Sapphire_TMOUS_3.56.531.1-2.10.531.4_P2_release", just do a search here. Rename the file to update.zip and put it on the root of your sd. When you're in stock recovery do a wipe and then flash the update.zip. See if that works for you.
I'm in the same situation though and nothing I've tried has worked.
I did discover that I can get into ADB when it's trying to boot.
Is there anything I can do via ADB?
I've attached a logcat for any ideas.
thanks dark0,
the screen just stays at the HTC MAGIC splash, though. I left home and power pressed for 6 minutes.
If you still have root access and your fastboot is working, try flashing the amon ra's recovery through fastboot (http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/11/how-to-root-the-mytouch-1-2-and-fender-mytouch/ , skip to step 4 if you've already set up the adb on your pc), and see if that works, if you still have root, you won't be getting the "not allow" message when flashing.
From there you'll be able to flash the new rom to get out of the bootloop.
Go into fastboot mode and post here ALL info.

then I try to run a SAPPIMG.nbh or sappimg.zip and both of them say Model ID incorrect! Update Fail!
dark0: all fastboot commands say "remote:not allow"

saving current ROM

Recently rooted my MT3G. I have used Root Checker to verify root access and BusyBox install.
I have ROM manager installed. I believe, I should first save the original ROM, in case I need to restore it. When I use the menu item to save current ROM, it goes to the myTouch green splash screen, then to the black screen with the triangle containing an !
At that point do I need to press a combination of keys to get into next step, or just wait? It does not seem to do anything at that point.
To add to this, in Rom Manager I first flashed the ClockworkMod Recovery. However, when I click the menu to "Reboot into Recovery", I get the green myTouch start screen and it just hangs there.
Just do a nand backup in custom recovery (clockwork, amon ra, whichever one you're using; power down the phone then press and hold HOME+POWER until you get to it), it'll save it to your sd card.

Sounds like recovery didn't install correctly. Try reinstalling recovery and see if that helps. You could try installing recovery from terminal emulator. If you don't have term emulator search for it in the market then follow directions here.
This method will work for clockwork also just replace the file/file name with it.
OK, I power down. Then do home+power until green myTouch screen appears, continue to hold down home+power until triangle with ! appears, then release buttons, repress home+power and it goes to original MT3G recovery. So, sounds like Clockwork recovery did not install. Will try terminal emulator install method.
OK, when I run this in terminal I get
flash_image: not found
Found something online that says flash_image is not available in HTC stock rom. I am currently running FROYO, not a custom rom.
Obtained a copy of flash_image, will put it in and try again
I have flash_image on the SD card, but can not move it to /system/bin, not even by using the terminal. : (
I wonder if the app Root Explorer could move it or copy/paste it.
How in the heck does anyone install new roms in an MT3G if you can not flash???
Do a search on how to flash recovery through fastboot (in a nutshell you'd need AndroidSDK/ADB tools and a custom recovery image, then it's just a matter of connecting your phone to pc, booting into fastboot and issuing a 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' through cmd), once you do, you can flash new roms.
An update on the outcome in case any one else as noob as me has these same problems. Following the rooting thread elsewhere here for the MT3G, I downloaded roottools and was able to use adb to change the permissions on /system/bin so that flash_image could be put there. Also was able to put the recovery mentioned in that same thread on my phone. Once finished, I was able to boot into the new recovery and do a backup of the phone.
So, I believe that finally has me in a position to try and flash a new rom, with the option of restoring me back to what I jave now if the new rom has issues.
I'd be interested in recommendations for ROMs to try on the MT3G. Are any of the custom ROMs preferable to FROYO which I am now running? Do any make the phone operate more "snappy"? That is my primary wish, not so much features, but responsiveness. I appreciate the help given here.
Last night I used Rom Manager to download Cyanogen 6.1.0 and the Google apps. I chose to wipe data and cache when installing. When I began the rom swap the phone rebooted to the green myTouch screen, after a while, it rebooted to the green screen, this continued until I eventually pulled the battery. Reinserting the battery and turning the phone back on only started this boot looping again. So, I pulled the battery, started up into the recovery and did a restore. Fortunately, the restore seems to have worked perfectly.
Any ideas on how to get the rom swap to go?
Sounds like you might need to flash an alternative kernel. Check your phones info (power off then reboot holding down volume down+power) to see if it is compatabile with the rom. If your device is 32b and your radio 2.22.27.08 or 2.22.28.85 flash a 2708+ kernel from here
or an autokernel from here after flashing the rom or just search 2708+ kernel, you'll find lots of options, everyone has a personal favorite.

I think it's because your still on a stock rom. Once you flash a custom one that should stop happening.
When i flashed Cyanogen 6.1.0, the phone would not boot. So, how do I flash the rom first, and then flash the kernel? Also, can you suggest a specfic kernel for my MT3G? Why doesn't the Cyanogen 6.1.0 already have the kernel i need?

When I boot it, it is stuck at the first Splash Screen that says "HTC Magic" and doesn't boot into recovery if I tell it to. I have tried to flash a Recovery in Fastboot and it did not work, same with SAPPIMG.nbh, it says update failed. Any help is aprrciated!
Also I'm not sure if it is 32A or B, it has the audio jack, but in FASTBOOT, it says 32B.
Thanks
It should say 32a in the device info that's ypur first prob here is what u do u have a magic 1.2 know that well
