100% time without signal - strange and serious bug detected - Galaxy S II General

After 48 hours of usage, gsm signal dropped and returned randomly.
Tried switching 3g/2g, turning flight mode off and on.
Checked battery usage "cell standby" consumed the most of the battery. Strange "100% without signal appeared"
Rebooted the phone by switching it off completely and on. And... It's flawless again. Perfect hsdpa speeds.
Looks like serious software bug to me in latest XEU ROM or radio software.

This is what suppose to happen.
Cell Standby and phone idle will show most battery consumption when phone is idling most of the time. Basically thats the nominal amount that phone will need just to stay powered up.
This is normal.

100% time without signal and loosing gsm signal all the time are not normal.
It, wasn't a network problem. Everything happened at the same location.
Only full reboot helped.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

No, thats not normal, but in absence of the signal, its normal for those two to show most usage.
Your phone might have failed registration on your network for some odd reason. If it does not happen too often there is nothing to worry about.

Agreed. It wasn't able to register to network again until rebooted.

It happened again after 24 hours.
Lost cell connection. Nothing helped. The only way is to reboot.
100% without signal is known bug in ginger bread.
"100% without gsm signal" means no signal at all or wcdma signal instead of gsm signal all the time.

Did you fix it?
I got the same problem

Are any of you using one of the XXKGx Android 2.3.4 firmwares?
If so, try installing an older modem file; that may fix the problem

For everyone with the 100% w/o signal
Please share this.
Go to settings>About Phone>status....and then go back.
Check the stats afterwards, you'll see the counter decreasing.
it's not a serious bug. it's just a log bug.

Hi,
I've fixed this problem changing a mainboard in the maintenance assistance and upgrade the firmware as well

Network 3G and H swapping problems...

Hi
I have this problem and i think ive come across a few people with the same frustration.
Which is the constant switching of our galaxy s fone networks frm 3g to H.... Happens so constantly it disrupts and keeps me in limbo so many tyms i cnt even tether properly with this problem!!!!
Please olease is there any fix for this out? Ive looked everywher!!!!! And if not. . . please as a humble request can a dev please create something so that only H frequencies are chosen and are prioritized so that it doesn switch to 3g please?????
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Ha.
Yeah mine does too sometimes.
A way I get past it is to tap back button and select again and it quickly loads up in h.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Could be a problem with XXJVS radio? I go back to XXJVR to compare results.
HSDPA is an extension of 3g. It uses the same frequency. The reason it is switching is to save power for better battery life. It switches to H when you are using the connection, but than switches back to plain 3g when it is idle.

Yes ofcourse its an extension from 3G to H .... But i am still using the dam network n it still keeps changing to 3g and H is there no way to keep it on one of em?

That's just how dataconnection works. .if you want to keep your connection in H-mode constantly, you need to make your phone to ping something for every 3 seconds...like ping -t 3 8.8.8.8 in windows (if I remembered it correctly).
In short: connection is in H-mode as long there is traffic. .

In my experience (from reading stuff here and observing my phone) it seemed that constant switching between H and 3G drains battery faster than if we could force the phone to use only H. From your post, I understand this is not the case. I never thought that 'switching' was a battery save feature...
I'm using CM7, and although it switches to 3G for a short period of time very infrequently, most of the time I have an 'H' displayed, even when it's idle. I also don't notice any significant battery drain. Maybe my phone is just crazy, though.
I've had this since day 1 with my phone, through many different roms... it's frustrating as all hell and really hurts my battery life and my patience
The switching from 3G to H is not the problem and not the cause of the problem here - it's just the symptom.
It's because data is lagging and stalling further upstream, so the phone is simply returning to idle as it should.
The solution is to change carriers to something that gives more reliable data.

i had a sony x10 mini pro and problems were similar... But then from control panel i selected 3G only ( only options were 2G and 3G) and when it was onnit it NEVER gave up H ... Constantly stayed onnit so if its possible on a fne **** that m preetty sure we cn do it on a galaxy s

Wouldn't the most likely cause of your phone switching back and forth be because you're losing connection? My phone stays in H when I need it, and leaves it when it doesn't. So...

Nope i have constant network on full bars... Keeps working only until the H starts swapping is the time my phone enters limbo and i lose connectivity
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
The problem is that it literally hangs between 3g and H changing constantly without loading anything. If I say for example on xda, touch a thread and it does this, it may stay in a changing to and fro for minutes and not load. But if I select thread again as soon as it starts doing it it opens to thread quickly and normal.

Battery drain with 3g on terrible

Hi guys,
Is anyone else get terrible battery life with 3g and data on even on standby? I believe the phone function drains the battery and it lasts only 2 days or so on standby. I constantly have the tab on flight mode with wifi enabled and battery is much improved to about 1 week standby. Anyone else? I am on stock 4.0.4.
Thanks
Wtf r this guy even serious? I wish i had 1 day standby, what a joke

Hi Iong. We are talking about a tablet here, not a phone. Tablets should have 1 week standby at least. The battery drain with 3g and phone on is unacceptable. I think the reason is the connection to phone signal which is constant.
Mate 1 day pr 2 day standby is a lot, given the fact you install many program and it constantly connect to tinternet to check for updates notifs etx. You dont have 1 week standby whatsover, forget it. Big tablet big baterry big screen. Ot all goes scaling together

So 'l2_hsic' and 'batt_work wake lock' are the 2 processes keeping my table awake for 5 hours in total since yesterday. Any idea of what these do?
Thanks

most likely is that one or more of your apps is causing the problem. try a reset and see if the problem goes away. if it does, install apps one by and and check which one is the problem
Use juice defender ultimate in tablet mode. I can go several days idle time and lose almost no battery.

Still having issues

I'm still having huge battery issues no matter the ROM and kernel I use...
I have tried looking at battery apps that determine what's sucking up the battery but half the time it just says screen or WiFi. So it got me thinking, is it WiFi? I leave WiFi on, which was never and issue like a month ago or ever on my previous androids...but now all the sudden it seems to be the cause? I woke up to find my phone at 50% from 100 within 5 hours...of no use just WiFi turned on and set to only stay on when plugged in...so I could really use some help guys...

Simple solution - turn Wi-Fi off and see if it fixes the battery issue. Possible it is but to draw 50% that quick you'd have to be far away from the Wireless AP. In most cases that's very unlikely.

And look what i said, WKD does not seem to be able to see all the wakelocks, install BBS and see if you get any extra wakelocks.
If that doesn't help, i would suggest you to do a complete reflash to stock and see if it still happens on stock.
turn off your wifi when you are not using it. there is a constant drain with a wifi connection.
Drain is STILL there with wifi and everything off (airplane mode)
I installed BetterBatteryStats and everything seems normal. In a 1 hour period the largest offender was msm_hsic_host and sns_async_evwakelock and suspend_backoff with a total of 4 min.
It seems to drain the same whether I use the phone or not.

Seems like the exact same issue. Have you tried using another battery? I am being sent another battery to replace the one I bought so I will try that when it arrives.

I have a question. as you put the batteries you put blue tape too? It's a bit strange but maybe this is the reason because I threw my to the trash.it is called blue anti-electrostatic discharge tape
What blue tape? Do you are exepriencing usb connection problems too? I have all those symptoms after I've replaced my battery, and also the usb stopped working

Well, I didn't replace mine.. Could it be the culprit? Where can we buy that tape?
I doubt the tape is the issue.
Have any of you tried using another new battery?

Battery issues....

So I'll start off by saying my battery only lasts 8-10 hours from 100% to dead. So fair I have pinpointed the issue but I don't know how to fix it. I'm using an at&t d800
When my WiFi is on, no or unknown signal and no data connection start ticking and killing my battery. If I never turn my WiFi on my battery will last 19 hour or more.
Has anyone less encountered this issue and/or know how to fix this.
I have had this on bone stock 10o and on gravios rls 4.
Please I really would like to use my ac router and to get better battery life.
Thanks for your time.

get betterbatterystats and look into wakelocks, check kernel, then partial and google the living daylight
turn wifi off when no signal, not that complicated really.
lobby with your provider for better coverage in your area.

if that doesn't work, buy replacement battery, there are threads here how to open the phone.
or root it, twrp recovery it, wipe the bagesus ( not the sd card) out of it. so its clean. Then reinstall stock or good custom.
then condition battery, a couple times full charge down to zero and up again.

LG Dealer? also its not the battery not holding a charge its if my wifi is on the battery drains like crazy because my phone thinks there is no siganl so its boosting the cellular radio. with out wifi on it doesnt do that so the battery lasts a long time.
well good news it is software related. i installed cm 11 and wifi on is not causing the no signal wake lock.

Conditioning is only good for Ni-Mh battery's but bad for Li-Poly battery's. (which g2 uses) 0% and 100% are bad for them. The best is to charge them from about 10% to 95% if possible.

I dont understand why my battery if I charge it past 100% grants me an hour longer screen on time. I did notice a different span when using till 50 and then charging it again. Once I went from 100 to zero and back up it seemed it reset itself.
weird battery I guess.
Bad calibration is all. Its that magic 1% @100 and crap 5% bottom end. Noticeable across all devices. Evens itself out, never ends. Seems at 100% starting, its not really fully charged.
