Lately I've noticed that when I'm using Pocket IE I'll try to go to a web site and it will start to load, then IE simply closes and I'll be back at the today screen. It doesn't happen on the same web site every time, but once it starts happening for a particular website it will keep happening on that website until I go into the options for IE and clear the cache. Lately it's been happening once a day or more and it's starting to get rather annoying. I'm about ready to try to move the cache back off the SD card.
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
Brett
Same here. I was suspecting:
- IE cache on SD
- GPRS connection always on
As those were the two tweaks I did just before the problem started.
Just a few hours ago I tweaked the gprs connection back to the way it was, but the problem came back.
I suppose it is the SD cache then.
I do not use GPRS connection. When I moved IE cache to my SD card, this problem occurred. After I moved it back to internal storage, the problem was gone.
I put the cache in the sd card but i dont have that problem
IE Cache
I also had this problem and moving the cache off the sd card resolved the problem. I wish there was a quicker way to clear the cache.
For me this was Cache on the SD card. I tried it for a day but obviously could not tolerate the problem just to save on memory. Moved it back and the problem is gone.
Regards
I had the same problem with the cache on the sd-card.
I "moved" the cache back to the device, and deleted the cache from PIE options.
Then I emptied the cache folder on the sd card and "moved" the cache to the sd card.
Is it possible that some content of the cache is somehow indexed in a database? So there would be an inconsistency when only the path is changed... :?:
Cache in sd brake Internet Explorer
Finally I had to set the cache in rom because IExplorer speed was very slow.Ok guys, we need a solution. we need to purge the cache automatically or be able to change the cache size (if I change it in the registry it is restored when system boots)...
Could it be the type/brand of sdcard? Maybe, I've just been lucky so far. I haven't experienced this problem yet?
I have a Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB.. Am I just lucky so far.

I dunno... mine is a Sandisk 512M
Brett
hi all,
I don't believe it has to do with the SD card. I am currently using a HTC Apache (Sprint PPC-6700) and I am also having this problem. I am using a Sandisk 1G miniSD. I have moved the temp folders back to main memory and haven't had any problems. :?
I am guessing, could this be related to the write speed of regular SD cards? It seems that the only one that reported no problem in this thread is using a faster-writing card (Sandisk Ultra).
Yesterday I was testing the SD card caching again. I was loading a very long blog page with lots of photos, the page size close to 1 MB. IE crashed and closed itself towards the end of loading that page. I cleared the cache and tried it again. It still crashed almost at the same spot. And the same for the third time. It almost looked like the SD card couldn't keep up with the amount of data that needs to be cached. (I was using WiFi.)
I also remembered the last time I was using SD for IE caching, I was surfing the web using Verizon's EVDO service (at around 100-200K speed), and I was able to surf for a few hours before IE started acting funny. When I use WiFi for surfing, however, IE crashed much sooner.
I have had this happen too, but never thought it could be caused by having the cache on my SD card. I always thought it was a memory issue, because a soft reset has always fixed the problem. Next time it happens, I'll try flushing the cache to see if that fixes it.
I've been telling myself for weeks that I'm not going to worry about it.
In Google Maps when I use the compass mode on Street View it responds... but very strangely. It's difficult to explain but I have to spin in circles slowly just to almost all the way around 360 degrees just to do a 180 on Maps. Obviously the trackball works on it just fine so I'm not really worried about it and it's not worth wiping and starting from scratch. So like I said... I didn't worry about it.
Since then I've tried Haykuro 5.0.1G and everything worked great. Too great in fact. The Google Maps Compass mode works perfectly. I flash back to RC33 and I have the same problems so it doesn't appear to be a hardware issue.
I'm not near metal, I've recalibrated the compass by the "Figure 8" method, all other apps (Brain Genious, Bubble, Planetarium, Sky Map) seem to work alright.
I have all caches to SD, apps to SD, auto-rotate disabled, transitions and such disabled.
And the weird thing is that I was able to go straight from RC33 to 5.0.1G without loosing any apps. I just needed to use Mybackup to restore my data (texts, phone log, etc) so I doubt that it's a problem with an existing app.
I'm thinking it might be my class 4 card with my Maps cache to SD. Maybe I'll try moving it back to see if the problem clears up. Any input anyone?
hi,
i have just used jf updater to update to 1.51 (both the radio and the rom) the update process went smooth with no errors....
however after the restart many applications crash and force close including core applications such as acore, gmail, gm, ... etc
the phone does not seem to be stable anymore, it does not sync often.
any help?
had the same problem today... i just reformatted, re-rooted, and reflashed everything. all solutions ended no where. so hopefully someone has a better solution here.
just try a backup then wipe and see if it fixes it
same here, i also did apps2sd at the same time, and i thought apps2sd was the reason for the **** up, so i just wiped and now apps are running from my phone and everyhthing seems to work normally. i'm still not sure what caused it...
going through the whole rooting and apps2sd process all over again????
same here crash, crash, crash.. lol apps to sd 1.51 doing a wipe now ugh
If it helps anyone here, I recently upgraded fine from RC33 to 1.51 HOWEVER I did NOT use app2sd program. I did mine originally using Lucids script method. Which on RC33 was a script that would copy the data and then the cache over to the SD. Then after I upgraded to 1.51 everything worked fine and normal, no hassle.
So my suggestion is this, have EVERYTHING run off the phones memory, Then use lucids script, a alternate way to apps on sd. Then see if everything works fine after you moved it over, also turn on usb debugging, fixed my apps that needed root access.
im also having the same problem after updating to jf 1.5.1 can anyone confirm if they are still having probs after wiping and using apps to sd? did using lucids script instead work? i just dont wanna go through the hassle of wiping and not know which one to use so my apps can stop randomly force closing.
It seems that you all are upgrading from an old version of a2sd to a newer better version of a2sd, many apps don't work correctly unless they are reinstalled when you changed builds due to them not being registered correctly
I would reccomend backing up your apps and then wiping your system/sd folder before you flash to a major upgraded build.
wipe then update then wipe again.
Then boot into your new updated build. Install a few apps then use you prefered a2sd method and verify with the a2sp apk located in the development section that everything worked right.
If the a2sd apk says that tou need to prepare your card for a2sd, you may noy done it right. However if you use lucidrems method, itmay not be compatable.
Check the system/app folder and see what's in it Same with data/app. If the few programs you installed are not there then yay your a2sd is working check system/sd/app to verify.
Ill help out when I can, pm me or ask your questions here. Ill be monitoring this thread.
Good luck
I wiped my phone and installed everything again...everthing was fine until I rebooted my phone and upon start up toggle settings force closed and open home aswell. Same problem I had before....so far nothing else has attempted to force close but I'm guessing I didn't solve the problem and await for it to start crashing like it did before. Sorry I'm still new at this stuff so bare with me...
Toggle settings WILL crash, You need to uninstall that one and redownload the "Cupcake" version of it. That will fix that one.
Now that your 1.51 You need apps that work with cupcake. =)
I do have. The cupcake version....all my apps rondomly just keep crashing....I either hit wait or just force close it
I have also been experiencing force closing issues. The weird part is that I dont have the apps to sd installed on my phone. My phone lags sooo much now, especially in the market and even worse in the browser. Sometimes I wait up to 50 seconds before the browser starts up. Everything is just blank for the time. I get force closes randomly for maps, IM, browser and cupcake toggle settings before I uninstalled. Also, when I exit anything with my home button, it goes to my homescreen but takes a good 10-15 seconds to load my apps on the screen. It just freezes.
Since I've had the phone, Ive already wiped 5 or 6 times. I am so over wiping and reinstalling all my apps and putting everything where I like it. Anyone have any ideas? Please???
AH! That issue I know about, I just recently upgraded from my 2 GB Kingston to a 4GB Sandisk. The Sandisk seems to be a faster card. I know the kingston was a slower one, which lagged behind giving me ALOT of the wait/force close ones. This was due to the speed of the memory card kinda choking out I would say. I always hit wait which did the trick. But when I had alot going on, lag sucked. I dont get it very often now, which says the SD is faster. But this might be the cause of your issues too?

Is anyone else having this issue? I'm going crazy with all of the crashing and waiting. Sorry to be impatient.
Like I said, I did till I changed out my SD card.

I forgot to mention that I have a 8gb 6 class already in place.
I also have an 8gig class 6 card so that can't be it.
so, iam still having force close issues on many applications. also it seems that the phone is very slow now.
any thoughts?
Hoping for some help with my GPS issues.
I have a 32G Nexus 7 2012 Wifi.
GPS has worked on it in the past - I was using Copilot.
Haven't used the feature in a while.
Currently on the most recent official PA ROM.
Tried to use Copilot, got no satellites. Downloaded every GPS app (free) I could find, approx 5 of them. I have reset the GPS several times, and downloaded AGPS data. The apps show that the GPS is turned on (it says GPS off when off). At each trial, I stand outside under open sky for 3-10 min.
Just for fun, tried Franco kernel, no change.
I have checked location settings, and tried both with all location services as well as GPS only.
Multiple reboots attempted.
Popped off the back, looked at GPS contacts - they are intact. I bent them carefully up a little, no dice. I believe they probably hit the contacts on the back cover antenna, but of course I can't be sure.
My next attempt will be to put a little bead of solder on the contacts on both the spring contacts and the flat contacts on the back cover. If that doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. I can do a full wipe, but I'd like to exhaust all other options first. The last time I had GPS working was before Kitkat. However, search does not show anything helpful with my issue.
Still dead
Building up the contacts with solder did nothing.
Finally bit the bullet and reflashed to latest CM11 nightly (5/20/14). Still dead.
This seems to point to a hardware problem. Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot? I was hoping to use my N7 as my GPS when I move from Wisconsin to Texas next month.
Sandwich little bits of aluminum foil between the contacts and the gps antenna. Sorry for the outdated suggestion. Have you checked these considerations?

I had the same problem with many different Roms on my N7. Finally I have found a solution in the web:
1) Generate the directory /data/gps
2) Change the directory access rights to 775, i.e. RWX RWX R-X
Already then everything should work fine, otherwise perform a reboot.
You will see in the new directory a file named "gps.interface.pipe.to_gpsd" plus some others.
Currently this solution is working fine for me with a cm11 nightly 23.5.2014 (also before with the milestone version).
Hello everyone, as the title says I'd like to test out the ART runtime and maybe switch back to Dalvik if I need it. Since I've never done it would be nice to gather some feedbacks from you guys. Also I don't know if doing all of this switch will leave some junk in the memory. Thank you!
P.S. I asked in the worng section, sorry. Someone could move the post in the Q&A?
I went back and forth between the two on a few kitkat phones (inc. G GPE) with no issues really.
there was an issue with some version of Flipboard which would bootloop your device if on ART, think its solved by now, not sure though.
Better stay with dalvik for now we will switch to art once we get L.
Tried both . Could not find any noticeable difference.
when I switched to art, i noticed it takes more ram, about 100MB more or less. although, I never noticed any performance change, positive nor negative, only slightly longer battery. i think i still have problems with google hangout using as default SMS app but not sure if it is because of ART, it might be. as I said, almost no difference except of slightly longer battery and not working hanouts as SMS[which I didn't like in the first place]
I'm using a few apps and according to this site: http://www.androidruntime.com/list none of them are reported to not work on ART. Thanks to anyone for the fast replies. I'll give you feebacks when I give it a shot.
I'm using ART on my phone as default.
The only problem I ever had with ART, was the incompatibility with "Facebook Beta" apart from that, in my experience my phone is more responsive on ART than it is with Dalvik.
MeanDroid
In ART i could not move apps to SD. Now back to Dalvik it is possible again.
No Differance
i was running on Dalvik on 4.4.2 and once i updated to 4.4.4 , i reset my Phone and changed to ART, i did not find any reason till now to switch back to Dalvik, although i did not find any noticeable Speed improvement or Better battery life. no force closes except 2-3 times with Subway surfers in this 2 months.
I swiched to ART as soon as i got 4.4, didnt fine any difference
Hey, I'm also using ART, no problems, just I find the battery draining fast. 10 minutes disconnected from charger and battery went down 2%... hope to see any difference in battery when L arrives
i use art when i got an upgdate to 4.4.4 i noticed that all my apps when i open it fast... but sadly i return to dalvik again because everytime i update some application like facebook, gmail.. etc some other apps most of the time my phone restart everytime i make an update it will restart that's why i return to dalvik again

Hello,
You're right.
According "The SDCard Bible for Moto G 4G/LTE" (https://forums.motorola.com/posts/7e59cc7baf), "Move to SD card" doesn't work on ART.
And ART uses a lot more space than Dalvik.
So, unfortunately ART is not a good deal for Moto G 4G/LTE (XT1040), in my opinion.

I haven't found one application I use that wasn't compatible with ART. IMO, there is a noticeable difference between using ART over dalvik. This holds true on the Nexus 5 as well. The Moto G is very smooth with 4.4 Y2FS, and ART enabled. I was quite unhappy with my Moto G running stock with dalvik enabled, but I'm very happy with my current set up. It's nearly as fast as my Nexus 5.
