sprint 4g image needed! - Nexus S General

I just installed the latest cm nightly on my new ns4g unfortunately it doesn't support cdma radios yet, like an uber noob I was so excited to flash cm I forgot to backup first. I need a stock image to get my phone working again.
/facepalm

I thought 2.3.4 had cdma and 4g built in. Have you tried one of those roms?

Try a rom built from source of 2.3.4. Cm just barely started to merge 2.3.4 in.
Or the problem is he doesn't have the correct kernel from what I understand.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

The 2.3.4 kernel has wimax code in it. Whether that extends to full rom support I'm not sure.

Would miui work? Since it has been updated to 234

no it wont. and netarchy did alot to help me getting a kernel. it looks like i messed up flashing the radio... doh. now i need to figure out how to get the correct radio back on. i knew i should have waited before i jumped right on rooting this thing.

It will be on here soon. Don't worry. Just a pain in the buttto wait for a day or two!

im sorry but i dont feel one shred of pity for you. if your willing to take the plunge on testing things out before the phone comes out, then you should have at least made a backup of the stock files.. if you didnt know how to then you coulda asked.. or hell at the very least after flashing CWM made a nandroid

Actually a nandroid wouldn't have helped him, because his problem is that a rom he flashed was bundled with a gsm radio image. It's the cdma radio image he needs.

I'm not asking for you to feel bad or pity me. I messed up i'll take all the blame. yes i should have backed up to start off i knew i should have i was just too excided. i was a 8 year old on christmas morning with my new toy
I know there are people out there that can help me and i'm hoping by asking i can get that help. you can't blame me for that, if i dont ask i'm stuck here for days without a working phone. if i ask there's a chance i can get my phone working in a matter of hours, if the right person hears me.

no i agree there are people. what rom would bundle a gsm radio?
anyways if some one is willing to help all they need to do is just root, and dd the modem partition, they can upload it and then you can flash it. worst case im in EST and my sprint store opens at 10 am.. ill be making a total system dump when i get home. if you still need it by then you can download it.

Thanks for you help

well hopefully you can get in contact with someone today and they can make a backup of the radio for you to flash...

if someone can tell me the best root method and how to do the dump, I will do it

Rooting isn't hard at all. You should go ahead & root now
+1 on the root now. While your at it install a custom rom and you will love your phone. Odds are you can get the Froyo update right here before it hits OTA anyways.
Yeah I've rooted my vibrant before I had to get a new one. It is easy but I would probably have to un root it to update right?
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
I don't understand what waiting would do. What you should NOT do is get the Froyo update from T-Mobile, as there is a chance that they will push an update that breaks your ability to root with 2.2 and you will have to wait even longer.
I recommended you root now, install Rom Manager, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813001
Download Fusion 1.1 to your SDCARD (I have a folder called ROMS) and go to Clockwork, reboot into Recovery, Reinstall Packages, Install ZIP from SDCARD, choose Bionix 1.1, wait, and then see what that phone is really capable of.
Using Fusion 1.1 makes me not mind waiting for Froyo.
Yeah you are right it's just I haven't got to comfortable w/ flashing roms just yet. Looks a bit hard I guess I will just keep watching the videos on it till I feel like I can do it
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
Flashing roms is super easy as long as you're using ones flashable through rom manager. I must warn you it's very addictive. The only thing I would say is make your you backup in case something goes wrong and avoid Voodoo until you've flashed a few times and feel more comfortable. Great thing is there is tons of support here. I suggest you try Bionix Final.

Dooo eeet!
Yes, it's daunting at first to flash a new ROM, but I just did it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was simple and easy. Just read up as much as you can and then write up a "roadmap" on all the steps you need to take, before, during, and after. It removed a lot of headaches for me because I planned it all out and had all the software ready in case anything went wrong (Odin, stock ROM, etc.). If there are any gaps in your understanding or questions about a process, ask them here before you flash!
I would root it and load a custom ROM, waiting for official OTA update to Froyo is like playing a Russian roulette now. Look what a simple update that was suppsoed to address GPS and other issues did to your fellow TMO users.
As always, there will be people who wouldn't even know that you can root the device to make it your own, so they will always run stock, and complain to TMO when they click MobiTV app and never use it, but have to cough up 10 bucks a month for it (it is just an example).
If you came here you know that you can do something to your phone besides waiting for Froyo, take a full advantage of what is offered in the dev section, and don't forget to support the developers if you like the work they do
Ok I'm reading the thread you posted how do I preform nandroid back up?

If you are going to root, you might as well just do it.
Froyo could easily be 2-3 months down the road yet.
you need ROM manager...
it took me forever to find a how-to on this exact thing.
You have to be rooted in order to accomplish this:
1. root (obviously)
2. download ROM manager
3. open ROM manager and click on 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery' and pick your phone.
4. click 'Backup Current ROM'
5. Let it do it's thing... it's going to reboot and run in recovery then reboot again.
6. You are done!!
To recover, you have to boot into clockwork recovery and click restore then pick the date file you made to recover to that date!
** If any of this is wrong, please call me out!!
Yeah, I started doing all this before I even discovered ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery. Those tools definitely make everything so much easier.
Make sure you have the following software tools:
ADB
Odin
Rom Manager (w/ ClockworkMod Recovery installed)
Titanium Backup
Also, make sure your phone is not hardware locked before you begin. Try the standard procedure to enter Recovery Mode; if your phone is hardware locked, run the flashable fix (found in the dev forum) so that you have some way of recovering from a soft brick.
From my experiences, rooting has always been the fastest way to get updates. Those rollouts take forever.

lol. i was waiting for a froyo release, i flashed my g1 a bunch so flashing wasn't a big deal, but i was happy with the phone stock for a bit and didn't mind waiting. but i rooted after a week. was flashing smaller things like ji2 gps, getting rid of bloatware, changing bootup/shutdown, etc. a couple weeks later. and a couple weeks after that i started flashing roms.
moral of the story? just root and start flashing now, it's a long wait.

[Q] Rooted vibrant and OTA Froyo 2.2 upgrade

My question is if I have a rooted vibrant to I get the OTA Froyo 2.2 upgrade? After the upgrade my phone would probably be unrooted or lockdown again. What about all the stock apps that I took off would that still be off? I'll say yes but I'm not sure. One last question. What about all the software that I need root to run would that be gone or not usable? and if those are paid software I would have to buy those again. Sorry for all the questions, I'm very new to android I got my phone 3 days ago.
Thank You,
Denyson
Ok let see if I could help u out here. 1st of all u dont have to root to get 2.2 it come from t-mobile. If u root u would still get an ota froyo update if u didnt change the kenel, but it will unroot it. 2nd u might have a problem from the update since u take some of the bloatware off. 3rd all the paying app that u pay will b in ur maket if it get reset and u dont have to pay it again. And if root app then u have to root it again or it wouldnt work. Hope that help

dont worry about 2.2. Were never getting it
You got the phone three days ago, you rooted and removed apps?! I'm proud of you =)
I would think that it might be best to go back to stock before you installed the OTA myself.
Definitely do a nandroid backup though....and maybe a titanium backup too..
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thanks tructo that does help. my kernel still the same stock. I'm a bit worry about the stock apps problem part. Also I hope we do get it Froyo 2.2 upgrade. and I hope that we can root that version also.
Would a factory reset put it back to stock? With the stock apps and all? but if we can not root Froyo 2.2. I don't want it. I'll stay where I'm now. I love that one click lag fix, battery could be better but all in all is a great phone.
I dont think u can do factory reset unless u do nandroid bacj up b4 u took it out. But the best thing to do is use odin back to stock. Dont worry about u cant root with 2.2. There is alway a way. The dev for this fone is great and it seem to me that samsung doesnt try to stop us fron rooting. That y it so siple to root it in the first place. And use titanium back up, it save all the app for u
P.s: for the battery problem I use bionix fusion rom in the develope section it great

+1 to what tructo said about the factory backup. You need to have had a nandroid backup already in place to do that.
Make sure you've got the latest ClockworkMod in place and also click on "Problems?" at the bottom of ROM Manager to get the latest BusyBox then try and do a ROM Backup.
As for being able to root 2.2, I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem =)

Do you guys think that the battery life is so short because of the one click lag fix? After 8 hours I'm down to 15% battery.

This is the first time I would have to agree with smashpunks. We will get Froyo 2.2, when everyone else is already running Gingerbread 2.3.
Samsung truly provided they can't be depended upon.
What was it that the ever so eloquent Bush was trying to say?
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. NO MORE Samsung products for me. Well okay maybe I'll take a sneak peak at the Samsung Galaxy S2/Nexus 2.
Hey Denuding! How did u so quickly learn how to root and get rid of the bloatware? I've had my vibrant for two months and the only thing I knew was installing launcher pro. And do u know if u can remove touchwiz? And make it go to stock android look. I'm a complete nub and I don't yet understand all the terms like ota, rom, flash, kernal and stuff like that. [Q] Which EVO Rom to go with?

Ok so I am getting 2 HTC EVO's from a buddy of mine, Im going to be putting them on metropcs for my girlfirend and myself. Im going to do the flash by following the guides I found below;
1. Go to metro store and have them do a port for $30 (unless somone know a cheaper way to get my ESN added to metro's database)
1.5 Update Phone to 2.2 Froyo (if its not already, im not sure what android version is on these yet)
2. Root Phone and Unlock nand by using the method in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsoVzMadiQE
3. Get all the goodies working, by following this page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796257
Now this is where my questions comes in. First, Does anyone see a problem with my choice of guides? If followed properly should everything above work just fine? Second, I want to flash the custom rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
What are all the different downloads for? Are they differet builds or are they things that need to be installed on the phone after the flash? is there maybe a link to a guide on the rom itself?
And if I do flash a different rom, will all of the above settings still stick? SO is it literally 1. Install rom from SD 2. Boot rom and wait 3. Have fun? I wont need to "redo" anything after flashing?
Hope someone will lend me a hand here. Im not new to flashing phones, but I am new to flashing smart phones, For the most part the seems pretty straight forward.
Also I have the $40 MetroPCS Talk,Text,Web Plan, I do not live in a evdo market so I do not have 3G access, I will be using 1x and thats fine with me. However, do I need to upgrade my plan to beable to make this work? If yes then which plan would work best? if I dont "need" to upgrade, would there be any benifeit in doing so?
Ok I think thats it for my questions...Now I just cant wait to get the phones, he'll hopefully ship them on saturday.

That's an interesting question. I'm pretty new to flashing myself, but have been doing a lot of reading here and now have flashed 3 different ROMs. As far as the MetroPCS thing, someone else will have to answer that one. I only think of the EVO on Sprint. Can't think of a reason why any of the ROMs wouldn't work, other than Sprint specific apps, but don't know for sure.
As far as flashing multiple ROMs, from what I gather you can flash as many as you want. Of course you can only have one running at a time, but as long as you do your wipes between flashes, you should be good to go. If I'm wrong about this, somebody please let me know.

Ok so ill start looking around for MetroPCS specific roms. Does anyone know a good place to start looking?
as far as using sprint, I though about it, I also thought about porting to boost because with boost i could still get 3g, where with metro ill only get 1x. However Neither Sprint nor Boost have service within about 5mi of my apartment. Not only that but MetroPCS has actually been good to me for the past 2years.
Ok I found the Rom im looking for, but maybe im just slow, but IDK how to install it...

Get back to stock rom

Hey.
im all new to this with rooting a phone, did a test to root my phone with AAHK with no result, i can enter bootloader och recoverymode. but it stays on the white screen with htc logo when i start it up. I regret that I gotten myself into this because its to much for me. so now i will put my sd card in another phone to put over the PD98IMG.zip file there, and then load it up via my bootloader, and now to my question, when i enter that stock rom of PD98IMG, will it be in stock so i can upgrade the official android updates to 2.3.5 and sense 3.0 from there?
regards Kenny

The inspire got an update from at&t last week (it's the phone I have). The hack kit can't root it yet - well, so was the message from last week. If you go to the irc room it's posted on top. I haven't checked since then.
The part about "what jave you read" is that the user is setting himself up to be spoon fed everyrhing. He needs to read. After have been answered that question, most likely he would come back and ask more questions. We should help but without spoon feeding them all the answers. A few are fine.
Edit: nevermind, coffee still hasn't kicked in. Just re-read hist post and it seems he is not interested in rooting anymore.
