Screen brightness control - Galaxy S I9000 General

I just found it accidently...we can actually control the screen brightness by hold press on the status bar above and drag it to the right(hi) or to the left(low)....
just wanna share this for fun .....

quick search would have provided you with a multitude of posts about this..it's old news my friend.

Brightness quick change tip! (No app/settings menu needed)

I found that sliding your finger across the notification bar from right to left allows you to change the brightness setting.
I'm not sure if many people are aware of it so it's just a quick tip!
Thanks didn't know about it, nice tip

And there is a menu setting needed, you have to go to display and turn off Auto-Brightness.

Oh cool. Didn't know that auto-brightness being off was the reason.

Sorry, I checked the sticky thread before posting this to see if it was there and didn't see it. I must've skimmed it though because I see it now. I guess we can delete this thread then?
That's pretty cool n easy thanks for the short cut ..

I slide from left to right, so i can bring it up to MAX, and it does work.
but
when i goto menu settings for brightness its not all the way up. it seems like just a few short from MAX.
anyone else?

Brightness widget

I have noticed one thing that is missing from bada is a widget to easily change screen brightness. Would appreciate it if a skilled developer could create one.

[Q] status bar brightness control

Does anyone else have problems with the 'slide finger on status bar to change brightness' not working in cm7?
Thanks

You're not alone. I like that CM7 has that feature, but sometimes it's very buggy I guess. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does.
I have never been able to get this to work, and I have even increased the LCD density to ridiculous levels just to have a larger bar to swipe on.

OK, at least I know it's not just me. I even tried tuning off status bar dead area thinking it might be that.
Any alternatives for changing brightness on the fly?

yeah, the status bar brightness doesn't really work vary well for me ether. I had to add a brightness toggle power widget to the notification bar. brightness mode at auto / dim / 25% /50% / 75% / 100%
There's a really great app developed specifically for CM7 on the Nook called RecentPlus over in the themes and apps forum. It replaces your long press home with a recent apps dialog that contains recent apps, plus brightness and volume sliders.
Recent plus fits the job rather nicely, thanks for the suggestion.
Wish is defaulted to brightness slider instead of volume, or remembered your last choice... But now I'm nit picking.

Hit the settings button once you're in the app and those options are available

Pull down notification bar?

Currently running cyanogenmod on my 7.7, I would prefer the 'phone' interface with the pull down notification bar, is there any way that I can enable this?
Thanks

I think this requires a dpi change . I'm not sure, but I'd be interested in trying this out. It'd work kinda like the Nexus 7.

Set swipe-down gesture (on any decent launcher) to "open notification".

I don't understand why anyone likes the pull down bar, to me the most natural place is at the bottom of the screen where my thumbs rest. It's hassle to have to move to the top of the screen. What advantages is it to have the bar at the top?

The term pull up bar was already taken. And no one likes pull up bars
You can change it with modifying the build.prop file and change the settings for:
ro.sf.lcd_density=160
I think if you set it to 240 it will run in so called "phablet" mode and you have the Pull down bar.
I tried it, but almost broke my installation, as the screen stayed totally black after a reboot.
So i stopped fiddling with this option.

Because the rules of xda are to search first - if you had searched xda or even google for galaxy y brightness slider guide you would find answer
here it is - remember you need to be deodex and knowledge of apktool
