Battery life - Acer Iconia A500

I'm a bit confused about the battery of my A500. It runs empty in just about 4,5h hour of standart use (1 day standby included). In some reviews a found 24 hours (e.g. here)
25% were taken by mobile standby, although there is no service
What about you, how long does your battery run?
Might it be possible, that the US A500 has 2 batteries, while the EU only has one?
I found a "x2" on the packaging of the engadget device, but not on mine

I get about 13-16 hours of use doing web browsing forum on xda app, few games YouTube and movies and writing content. Etc.

I would concur. With my typical use, I can go all day on a single charge which I think is fantastic. Even under heavier use, it lasts my full workday.

same here can go all day and then just let screen sleep at night .the next,i might add late 10 am its lost about 3 percent.on average usinng the tab i will loos about 7% a hour
awesome i do think
maybe you have to much running in background or your wifi going in out or somethin g

Either the OP has a wicked rogue app in the background, or has a bummer battery. I have used with wifi, games, video streaming and easily get at least seven hours with heavy use.

Agreed.. Battery lasts over 8 hours of constant use, and my Cell Standby usually stands at 10-12%. Also, the US one has 2 batteries, but I bet yours does too.

6-7hrs with HD video. 8+ hrs of heavy use (heavy is relative and def. personal for each individual). 10+ hrs sitting just playing music (bed at 2am, still playing at 1pm when I emerge from bed). Charges from dead to full in 1hr and a bit while powered off; dead to full in about 2hrs while on.
I feel like my GTablet got a bit more, but I think that was for 2 reasons mostly....1. no cell standby process and 2. used a typical netbook screen.

So I got home from work tonight and started up my a500. The battery was at 87%. I turned on Snes9x and played "A link to the past" for literally 4.5 hours straight. The wifi was on, screen at 100%, and of course i was using a Wiimote via bluetooth. Battery was at 8% when I finally said enough..... Probably could have had at least another hour with the wifi off and the screen turned down.

This is a little off topic - but what is Wiimote?? Sounds like something I would want.
But since it doesn't have to do with the forum, I feel bad.... but I just want to know what it is, and how it made your emulator work well. I am extremely intrigued! Tell me everything about how it makes the emulator playable!

A wiimote is a wii controler lawl

So -
Can you post a link to a WORKING bluetooth peripheral like this Wiimote that makes a super-nintendo emulator on the Acer A500 worth playing?
Because the touch screen controls don't do it for me.

It is just the controller for a Nintendo Wii. Amazon or any gaming store should have one. There is an app on the market called Wiimote Controller that allows you to configure the wiimote as your input device. I have used it with my Archos tablets and the gba emulator. You can also hook up a Wii Classic Contoller to the Wiimote to have joystick use.
I use the Rii mini keyboard also with gba emulator and configure the keys so that I have a gamepad. Of course, I mainly play pokemon, so it's not like I have to have good tactile controls, so the keyboard is fine for that.
Edit: if you get some sort of wireless controller, then you should be able to hook a500 up to tv with hdmi and play on the big screen.

Now i got around 3 hours till 50% (about 30-40% of this was gaming). So it would be 6 hours in toal. A bit more than last time but not as much as you have.
I'm not running a lot of apps in background. When there are too much, I use a taskkiller.
Someone with a European version, who gets 8-12 hours as well?

Yes it is a Wii controller but I use the classic controller so it is just like playing the SNES. I use the free program called Wiimote controller.
Go to youtube and search "How to Connect WiiMote to Android Device". It is a decent walk through that shows him connecting it to a Xoom.

My gaming really sucks my battery. If I watch videos I converted myself (not HD) I have got run 9 hours of run time. That was with my screen set at about 50% and the wifi turned off though.

[DISCUSS] Battery Life, MOST Important thing for PLAY phone

Hi All,
Please post about the battery life after using this phone!!
I want to know for how many hours I can play non-stop games
1500mh xperia play´s battery?
I think the battery life is one of the few flaws in this design. I think the battery life wont even be much more then a normal psp. So probably 3-4 hours of non-stop gaming will kill it. That would be a reason for me not to buy this devise.
It's quoted at 5 and a half hours of gaming time.
I had two units on demo 9-5 on Sunday, they were on 9 and 11% be the end, they didn't get any proper recharging, just being topped up a minute or two if there was a gap in people coming to play on them, otherwise they were in use nearly all the time.
So it seems pretty good.
I get around 5 hours of gaming, good enough for me!
my r800x i rooted it and took off all the verizon bloatware and random crap that was running im at 210 free of 300 whatever on the rom side and ive only used 100 mb of the internal memory
only thing i have is snes and n64 emulators and FPse the other day i did about 3 hrs of gaming it was at 100 percent when i started and after 3 hours of gaming i had 75 percent i was playing ff7 and goldeneye
i had wifi off bt off sync off and medium screen brightness only thing i turn on is the sync but i dont need it all the time
i ordered some batterys off of ebay lol i have a bad habit of getting drunk and getting on ebay lol
they should be here today see what happens it suppose to be 2 oem spec suppose to be oem spec but i shouldve known better and the wall plug you just sit the battery in there
1h play, ~20% battery cost with the lights on the powerful setting.
So I confirm, it's around 5 hours of uninterrupted gameplay.
5 hours of gaming might not seem like a lot on paper, but trust me, it's more than enough.
I think people need to remember that this is a phone first, gaming handheld second. For the majority of people, 90% of the day is not going to be spent gaming for continuous hours. I know for me, personally, I play Ocarina of Time on my breaks at work. A typical day for me has me going to work at about 9:10AM, phone's at near 100%. I'll use some WiFi here and there, sparingly throughout the day, and get about 45 mins to an hour of solid gaming in. At 6PM when I'm heading home, phone's anywhere from 70-80%, maybe less if I've been using data slightly more that day. Keep in mind, this is with sending probably 50ish texts throughout the day.
So I get home, I'll usually play for another hour or so more depending on what I'm doing. All in all, when I'm getting ready to go to sleep, my phone's usually at around 65%.
That is absolutely amazing battery life. Any time that I plan on gaming for more than 3 hours straight I make sure I've got an outlet nearby just in case - I carry my charger on my at all times (in a backpack/car/etc) like any reasonable person probably does.
TL;DR - best battery life I've ever seen on a phone that does what the Play does.
5 hours of gaming is what I get, and trust me I've never killed the battery during a normal day. The only time I actually kill it is when sitting at home, and at those times I'm near the charger anyway.
This phone has by far the best battery life of any smartphone I've used.

I agree that the Play's battery life is quite good, but I really have to say that it's not good enough when coupled with 3G usage. I have 3G on all the time, and usually if my day starts at 10am, (with occasional gaming) the Play will die at about 9pm with moderate gaming. That's really quite good, but I usually am not home at 9pm, so it sucks to have the battery go flat just when you are about to start boarding your bus back home.
I wish it could've been a little longer.
Here are a few things about the plays battery life.....
5.5 hours of gaming is really intense and I realistically wouldn't expect many people to actually play games for the whole 5 hours unless they were at home which in that case they will have their charger for the device.
Regarding the phone using 3G, the device will only chew up power if its constantly looking for 3G signal. If the device has a strong constant signal of 3G, it wont eat the battery as much at all.
Regarding rooting the phone to increase its battery life, ive heard and seen that it does actually improve the phones battery life but only slightly. I dont have mine rooted and thats alright by me
Lastly, my experiences with the xperia play's battery have been fantastic. Im getting 2-3 days usage with calls, texts and short gaming sessions.

That, and I'm not sure whether the case I'm using (TPU) supports the extended battery's size.
I'm not even sure whether there are white covers for extended battery covers.. And I live in Asia so shipping from the US is going to painful.

Mobile phones in 2000 were larger and heavier than 300g. Pockets have not changed at all
One didn't buy this phone for its sleekness and fitting his thin jeans, did he?
Vemoxy, you can order batteries and covers from aliexpress.com, they ship from Asia so the shipping fees should be lower. For example: http://www.aliexpress.com/product-f...i-X-pureness-Xperia-Play-Z1i-wholesalers.html

That's because the playstation pocket emulator was made by a team of Sony professionals, and not some dude on the internet.

I'd daresay it has a lot more to do with the fact that they have all the data about both the emulated console and the Xperia play. Random dudes in the internet do nit have those kinds of advantages...but still, they do a better job.
Try running Everybody's Golf both from FPSE and from the Market version and you'll find that FPSE renders a flawless emulation which the paid version does not. I know I got pissed off.

[Q] HELP in Extending Xperia Play Battery Usage

problem solved by gingerbread 2.3.3 update
The problem is that gaming takes a lot of battery power. I haven't attempted to game for 6 or 7 hours straight but generally speaking, the Play has the best battery of all the handsets I've played with in a really long time. I jumped from a Captivate to the Play and even with little use, the only way I would get through a day is by charging while at work. No problem anymore with the Play, which always has way more charge than I expect to see when I check out my battery life. On the Captivate, you'd be lucky to get 3 or 4 hours of non-stop gaming before it was dead. My first charge, I went 36 hours on my Play with quite a lot of gaming (though not all in one sitting and probably not as concentrated as you). I can hit the promised 5 hours of straight gaming.
I've rooted and removed a few small apps here and there, nothing too huge. I don't bother with attempting to save battery life by going GSM only or just using a headset. Not sure what else you can do. Maybe your apps are more battery-hungry than mine.
Well I havnt modden not even rooted my play but I get 24 hrs or more easily with 1-2 hours gaming and moderate web browsing

One thing I ha e noticed is if you are in a poor signal area and the phone is constantly searching for signal it will drain the battery quite fast.... just a tip to check out... I've solved my battery issues by turning the phone off when inside the office as after 2 hours of no use with no data or wireless connections the phone would lose 20% battery
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
I came from the iPone 3GS to the Play and the iphone had great battery life for movies, music and web. But when you played games the battery died fast. I still need to try with my Play but I think I get more playtime from it. Download Advance Task Manager and run it when you are finished playing around with your phone each time, great little app. I also killed the widgets. Widgets are awesome and I wish I could use them but they seem to kill my battery fast. I'm going to order the charger with extra battery from Ebay soon. (Probably today)
It charges a separate battery on a stand so if you have a big game day you can swap out the battery during the day.
I love this phone for games. The iphone has a lot of games but 1 in 100 are worth the time. And the touch screen sucks for playing games. But the iphone beats the android for ease of use for thing like managing space.
Also get App to SD Pro. It is worth it and I like to buy cool tools if it saves me time of going through all my games to see which ones I can move to the SD card.

I hear that at work I have to put it on Airplane Mode.
For to increase battery you can put advance task killer on or something and get it to auto kill after lock like I did for my HTC Hero but with new advancements in the custom roms I didn't need it. I expect custom roms to help battery. Untill then, think about getting a new bigger battery. Look in the accessaries thread and find mugan batteries.

Crash monitor, SecureClockService, SetupGuide, Sony Ericcson Sync.
If any of those make you nervous, have a look at this thread for details on each (look for the entry from "constin").

As always, freeze first Oh, and kill your music service when not in use also.
I leave my house at 7 am for work with a fully charged phone.
I play with it at work for about 2-3 hours on and off. (my work place is really easy going, not much to do atm )
I get home at 4pm (which is now) and battery is 48%.
Then i play with it around 1-2 hours at night when i am in bed after 10 pm.
Normally the battery is around 15% then and i put it back on charge.
So i guess 6-7 hours worth of non-stop gaming sounds about right tbh.
For no signal situations, you might want to grab NoBars from the market. When it sees that you have no signal, it puts the phone into airplane mode to save your battery and then checks for signal again every ten minutes or hour or whatever you set it to.

How Is the Battery Life on HTC EVO 4G?

hows the battery life on the HTC EVO 4G with bluetooth, gps, wifi, email alerts and notifications all turned off?
I find the battery life to be right on par with other Android smart phones, and I always have mobile data/notifications on. Wifi seems to increase battery life.
Its pathetic in my book compared to my previous htc phones. About 3 to 4 hours use and its dead. Pathetic.
pretty crappy. don't buy in to all these ppl saying "it lasts me 2 days etc etc" either cuz they don't actually use their phones
I have a stock 2.3.3. Yesterday, after 9 hours on battery with minimal usage (a few games of pew pew) I was about 30%. Today I used it a little more and was about 60% before lunch. Depends on your usage.
It's aiite. I get 1 day and 2 hours on my fone with moderate usage... Depends what rom and kernal your using.
If you have 4g on all day and are constantly playing games prolly 5 hours. If you use it as a phone and not an xbox then you can get a full day out of it easy. My brother leaves 3g on all day and plays a few games and still has 10% after 15 hours...

using a Sense ROM and chatting on my phone all day using talk, streaming music, and checking email on 3 accts, I get an entire workday and then some out of my phone. I take my phone off the charger at 7am and don't put it on again until after 10pm. At that point I still have about 20-30% left.
I keep GPS and BT off unless I am using it, the Always On Mobile Data is disabled, and I use WiFi at home and work.
As some people stated, it depends on usage.
I asked the same question the other day..60 views no replies...because everyone was raving about the awesome battery life on Kingdom_signed_062311_194639.zip but I get under 4 hrs because my screen is on alot playing the "word" game. Seems thats about right for heavy use.
My phone has been unplugged for 10hrs now and I'm at 32%, I mostly talk between 2 to 3hrs a day, check emails, facebook, play games through out the day, text, but I keep everything off til I want to use it except data is on all the time, I keep all updates turned off I do updates as I choose, I'm happy with it plus I keep a fully charged battery with me anyway

You people need a lesson on reading comprehension. No where in my post did I say that I don't like the Evo... So why would I get another phone?
I said that the battery life sucks, which it does. Especially if your phone isn't rooted.
Also, I feel bad for you: only 15 hours with an extended battery!? LOL that's terrible. I use a Sense ROM (Fresh3.5) with netarchy-more-havs (don't know the version number) and I get at least 20 hours with moderate~heavy usage, on the stock battery.
When I'm using MIUI with Tiamat & ViperBoy's undervolt scripts, I get over 24 hours with moderate~heavy usage. I have no doubt that if I had an extended battery, I could get 2+ days.
P.S.
I will be getting another phone. Preferably the iPhone when (if?) it drops on sprint, or a mango windows phone 7 device. If neither of those happen, galaxy s II it is...
It's terrible. Heavy usage I get 2 maybe 2 and a half hours. If you don't use it much, the standby time should be enough to get you through the day. I remember streaming the world cup on Sprint Espn and it barely made it past one 2 hour game before it became totally dead. Don't know how some say they get 5 plus hours on 4g running under heavy usage. I think their idea of heavy usage is much different than mine.
I'm on kinged kingdom nightlys sense 3.0..I get 10+ hrs with heavy use!! Calkulins Undervolt script..ROM is insane fast, with moderate use I avg 1day 9-11hrs..haven't hit two day mark with moderate use thou..working on it. STOCK battery! Make sure ur SD card is partitioned correctly. Optimize your RAM..the smoother and more stable the ROM,the better battery life, cuz your phone won't be struggling to function properly!!

Your battery life so far?

At the moment it seems like I'm getting around 5 minutes per percent (around 8 hours of constant use). The weird thing is that seems to be the case across all use, I get the same results from web browsing as I do reading comics in airplane mode.
Sent from my Samsung Fascinate via Tapatalk
I get pretty incredible standby though with set cpu. I'll go to work and come back after eight hours or more with one or two percent gone.
Yeah the standby life is amazing
Sent from my Samsung Fascinate via Tapatalk
set cpu app helped me get amazing stand by times. i mean i lose 1% every 24 hours propably.
during normal use, i get average 4-6 hours. surfing youtube, downloading, playing games. usually 5 is about right. People who say they get 8-10 hours heavy use are on one.
I would agree with 4-6 hours with constant use such as reading or twitter browsing. I previously had a Nook Color with CM7 on it and got about the same. Standby is amazing I almost never turn it off.
After about an hour of surfing or playing a game I lose about 20% so about 5 hours. But when watching videos I get around 7 or 8 hours

This sounds awesome I just got 48 hrs on included 4--5 hrs of use. Down to 2% ... wifi is set to go off with screen (after 1 min) not. Sure wat else to change
Hmmm. I was hoping that rooting/SetCPU/screen settings could get me closer to 8 hours of life, but that's not the case. I'll probably just sell the Iconia since the battery life is my main reason for owning a tablet, and in this case it isn't that much better than my laptop.
Run time.
52 hrs. %79 & moderate use. Never shut it off & still testing. Want to see how long it can go until I reach %30.
not trying to be an ass, but what are you guys using your tabs for? i run taboonay rom with thor kernel and good to very good battery life. I use my tablet all day long at work for e-mails, pdf viewing, gaming when i shouldn't be, and playing around on the internet. I wake up at 5 am everyday unplug my tab and start the day. With said usage i can go from 6ish AM till almost midnight and still have 20-30 something percent battery left. I wouldn't say i use it hard core, but i put it work. Just charge it while your asleep and it should last all day. Now on the occasion i watch movies on it it does drain the battery like a bastard but i can still get 5-7 hours of non stop movie watching on it. I really can't complain about the iconias battery at all. If you expect this thing to run like Carl Louis all day long without plugging it in you're in lala land. Theres alot of threads on how to get rid of cell usage drain, and look at whats killing your battery it may be an app or something you did settings wise to drain it faster.

Completely agree, I got mine on Saturday and apart from the initial charge it's only been plugged in twice. Used on and off throughout the day on Sunday, most of Monday evening, all Tuesday evening and all Wednesday evening, playing games and on the web with a bit of youtube and playing around. First time charged at 35% on Monday evening, second time yesterday at about 11pm as it was down to 10%. I think that's pretty damn good myself. It's on OTA 3.1 and Rooted
As for comparing to netbooks, have a look at the size of the battery in a Netbook compared to the Iconia. Of course they're going to last similar amounts of time - The Iconia has a smaller battery but has less to power versus the netbooks larger battery with more devices to power.
I'm at 67% after about 27 hours with about 2 hours of actual use. I guess that's ok. I flashed the Minimalist rom on Tuesday so I probably haven't given the battery enough time to break in. Sorry for being a *****, I'm just impatient >.<
I was kind of afraid if it would last me through a day of classes when college starts back, but I think I'll be ok.
I was getting around 5 days total with 1 to 2 hours display usage before the update to 3.1. Now it only goes 2 days when on standby with less than an hour of usage. Going to download SetCPU and try that. I have not changed anything (widgets) since before the update, so I have no idea what's eating up the battery.
Does anyone use there tablet in this post?Lol
I use my tab all-day long and I usually have 20% by the end of the day.

I use my tablet about 4 hours a day
I have to charge every 2 days
I charge during 2H30 arround.
Mine has been doing pretty well lately. I guess flashing roms took its toll

setcpu settings?
I'm using SetCPU as well, but getting no where near what you say. I left it on sleep last night and it drained 15% - same as before.
But, maybe I'm not using it right. I enabled the "screen off" profile and dropped the speed.
What are you doing/setting to get that standby time?

set cpu app helped me get amazing stand by times. i mean i lose 1% every 24 hours propably.
during normal use, i get average 4-6 hours. surfing youtube, downloading, playing games. usually 5 is about right. People who say they get 8-10 hours heavy use are on one.

Ok, I activated a couple more profiles including "time", temp, low battery. Low battery definitely turned on and I saw the change in the icon on the bottom right. I think the "screen off" is not turning on - basically can't see it when the screen is really off . But, it's definitely draining the same amount of battery.
Am I doing something wrong?

SetCPU didn't help mine either. Tried a few different profiles. I thought the one that would help the most is Screen Off, I set it max and min to 216mhz. No difference in battery drain overnight.

Am I the only one who thinks the battery life on this thing is great?

Here's what it looks like so far (with only a brief partial recharge yesterday that you can see in the graph).. The screen has been on for about 10 hrs with HEAVY use, over 2 days.
I still have 16% btw.
i wouldn't consider web surfing "heavy". it's a completely different picture when you're watching movies. the fire can only last for 3-4 movies, whereas the nook tablet can squeeze in an extra 2 hours on top of that.
Only 3 to 4 movies? That's pretty good. I couldn't be happier with the battery life.
Lol you really think that during 9 hours my screen was on, all I did was browse the web? Nooo. Just because other apps I used like YouTube and MOG and Guerilla Bob and Sprinkle don't show on that list, doesn't mean they weren't used As far as I understand, all it means is that their impact on the battery wasn't as significant as that of the other apps which are on that list, which is a good think I think.
Btw, if watching 3 or 4 movies (a day!?) is not enough to get you by.. I won't judge.
I have no complaints about battery. I generally only need it to work for about 3-4 hours a day and it does that with plenty to spare.
How did you get the Gingerbread battery statistics screen?
If you have the Beautiful Widgets app from the Android market, just add the "Beautiful Battery 1x1" widget to your homescreen. Then tap on it and it takes you straight to it.
