Zagg Screen Cover from BB - Acer Iconia A500

When it says leave the device off for 24 hours, is that before or after you put the shield on? I can't see why it'd be before, but just curious.
Also, anyone have any special warnings before I apply this thing?

it's after you put it on to let it cure. It's going to feel weird spraying liquid on your screen to set the protector, but it does work. I've only used the Zagg on the body part of my devices, it seemed to "sticky" for the screen for me. I generally like the Zagg shield. I've had one on the body of my Archos A5IT for over a year. I might try it on the Acer screen.
edit: oh... and just realize you have time to play with it for the first few minutes to get everything smoothed out and a lot of the tiny bubbles will disappear as it sets, but after you get it set, you can't take it off and reposition it the next day.

Went ahead and slapped it on. Yea, I took a moment to align the camera hole and then squeegeed it on. A couple of microbubbles, but they state that will disappear as it cures.

Now to poke around on my gtab while this thing cures.

Curing is for sissies.
Just installed mine... it's in the case and I'm typing away!

Care to explain why? Does it solve glare issue? Fingerprints? Do you sacrifice any display quality?

Cuts glare dramatically, fingerprints greatly reduced. I think the display quality is marginally subdued. Make sure you put it on correctly and get the bubbles out - the wetter the better.

works great here
I bought my tab at a full best buy store.. they did not have screen protectors.. Not even the tab on display.
I took it into a best buy mobile site and paid the 31 bux for the screen protector, but I went ahead and paid them 14.99 to install it.. I figured, what the hell, I just paid 480 for it (after tax), so another 45 bux is worth it.
took only about 1 day for it to fully cure and the last little micro line to come out. other than it is a little tactile orange peel feel to it (all zaggs have this), and your finger may drag a little, it is well worth it.
Let the finger prints get on the shield and not your screen.. just wipe them off.
I love the tablet!

I'm loving it, it might be a bit better glarewise, but not much. The big thing for me is I don't feel like I'm touching my filthy fingers on a pristine piece of virgin glass anymore. I don't have to wash my hands every 30m of tablet use.
I never got a protector for my Viewsonic Gtablet and never got a scratch. Same usage patterns with the A500 and I got a small scratch 3 days in. Returned it to best buy for an exchange and got the protector this time. Dunno if the crystal is different in the 2 models or I just got unlucky with the A500, but there you go.

I use it on all of my devices.

never turned my on, or took off factory protector until
I was pretty clear I wanted/needed a screen protector.
I carried the thing into the box into the mobile site to have them install the protector. I did not take the factory protector off, I let them do it..
I really like the protector, but, it can be a fingerprint magnet, but it wipes off easy enough.

I thought I read that the A500 has Corning Gorilla Glass. Does that mean it's less likely to break, but still susceptible to scratching?

it's actually the other way around.
It will break easier than it should scratch.
Gorilla Glass shatters like crazy if you drop somethign on it (i saw it happen).
Day to day scratches should not happen. I don't want to test that theory, mind you.
I don't have a protector on it yet, not sure if i will.
The feel of naked glass is just sooo pleasing.

This thing has such a great display, I don't want to subdue it at all with a screen protector. My phone has gorilla glass as well, and I've dropped that from 3 feet onto concrete multiple times (on accident), and the display is still flawless, so I am confident I won't get any scratches on this.

Zagg protectors are different depending on which device they are used.
The protector for the A500 feels pretty rubbery and is very "orange peel-y" whereas the Zagg on my wife's iPad is a lot smoother in both respects. It's so much easier to glide your finger over the Zagg on the iPad than it is on the A500, I might replace the A500 one with one from the iPad!
Both protectors produce a light shimmery effect and definitely reduce the wow factor on both screens so that's a disappointment but they both greatly reduce glare and fingerprints which is a big plus.
Unfortunately, it's a set of compromises you have to accept when using them.

Weird, I have my Zagg on and it looks fine. Unless of course your talking about when the screen is off.
I'm using an XtremeGuard which I got off eBay for $2.50. It is wonderful!! It had bubbles and stuff when the screen was off when I first put it on, but EVERYTHING cleared up within 2-3 days. I used a mild soapy water to put it on, so it was kinda "rainbow" looking when the screen was lit up, but all of that has since dried up. The screen is crystal clear both on and off. If you didn't know there was a screen protector on there, you would see it. You can tell by touching it, it feels a little more grippy, which I actually like. Also it hasn't intefered with the performance of the touchscreen as well, I'm 100% satisfied with it.

Mine looked terrible at first too, but after about a day, I guess the liquid fully dried and it didn't look cloudy anymore.
Bought a 3-pack from a Sprint store.
Don't use the anti-glare one. It significantly lowers the image quality.
It's akin games which use the film grain effect, except here you'd want the clarity instead of fancy effects.
Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it. I guess it only looks bad because I got a few scratches on the screen protector itself but I guess that's why you buy them in the first place. I might call to get a replacement if it gets any worse, these have a lifetime warranty.

That is exactly the reason I don't use a screen protector. They are made out of plastic and will scratch easily. The glass that is covering the LCD is made out of glass and VERY difficult to scratch. Seems like a waste of money to me. I had 3 iPhones and never had a scratch in the glass.
Did not work for me
I bought an invisi shield Saturday and they put it on my phone, I have had problems typing with it. I even tried to recalibrate the typing but it was not even able to type the first letter. Therefore, I took the front shield off and i am able to type with no problem now. Sucks.. maybe they put it on wrong because my wife's phone is working fine with it on. Life time warranty on it so Im going to take it back and have them try it again.

Thanks!
I just got a screen protector put on mine (first time ever having one on) and now it screws up my swyping in... swype... it confuses it... messed with settings and everything.... pain in the...
+1 for Anti-Glare.
I know most people do not like them because they "reduce" the colors or quality of the screen, but I like the fake that it provides a smooth surface and doesn't leave any fingerprints compared to Crystal-Clear screen protectors
I got the Zagg (actually I am on the second one, as the first came off in my pocket and got covered with lint).
I should say that Zagg is great, they sent me a new one with no questions asked and even waived the shipping, since the replacement was requested so quickly after purchase.
In any case, I am now second guessing my decision after viewing a youtube video on the scratch resistance of the screen.
Just go to youtube and search for "HTC EVO screen test". (sorry, as a new user I am unable to post the link).
Here's the link. Pretty impressive.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeoAl-94bks
I've used all kinds of screen protectors for all my devices until the ZuneHD, which is supposed to have Corning Gorilla Glass, supposedly super scratch resistant. Long story short, i pulled it out of my pocket where it was by itself and it had a nice fat scratch on the surface. Brought it back to Best Buy, got another one, and swearing to never trust any claims to scratch resistance.
Using a clairvue clear on my Evo 4g, and clairvue antiglare on a tp2, and a martin fields on a tp1, all 3 are well protected and i've never been happier.

If you have a screen protector can you please post which one? Please include a description of it, does it help with glare, fingerprints, and any sacrifice in display quailty? How much you pay and a link if not bought at a retail store.

Upon further investigation, if you buy the zagg from the directly, which is $10 cheaper than best buy, they give you a 45 day money back guarantee. I may just take advantage of this if I can't test one out.

I've ordered some from the company before and they are good to deal with. I think they also have a lifetime guarantee if you register your protector on their site.
Using GadgetShieldz
I've just ordered Gadegetshieldz, they don't make it for the A500 yet, but you can use the "DIY" version and trim it to fit before applying it. I've used their products for almost all my phones, I prefer it over Zaggs or Skinomi stuff.

It'll take about 1.5 weeks to arrive (since it's a India company - oversea mail), but it's cheap and does the job. In fact, i have one for my iPad (1st gen) and I like it a lot.

I got this one too. It's surprisingly easy to apply.
Attached is a photo I took with the front cam of my Iconia. There's an unprotected gap at the edge of the front where you still can see the reflection from the windows.
I bought the Zagg directly from their site. Installed it just a few minutes ago. Pain in the rear to get it lined up and laid down. I'm interested in seeing how well it calms down over the next couple of days. I installed one on my sons Ipod as a dry application and granted even though it's much smaller it was way easier to handle and install than this wet application was. I will reserve judgement for a few days and see how it turns out.
Xoom Protectors
I bought a pack of 3 from the Verizon store for $24.95 - they go on easily and although they don't cover the bezel, they do cover the entire screen area with about 1/8" over all around. Nice protector and very durable.
ZAGG Invisible Shield
I've been using ZAGG Invisible shields for quite a long time.. Most are pretty easy to install. With the exception of this one.. Took a few tries but I got it on there. One of the best things I can tell you about them is that if anything goes wrong with them. They give you a lifetime replacement warranty. Just make sure you register the product and you are covered.. So what I like is that they stand by their product.
Just in case you are interested about that tidbit.
Zagg Shield
Very disappointed with the Zagg shield. a real bit** to install and I hate the way it feels. The drag on your fingers is definitely there. I should have realized I wouldn't like it because I had one for my Omnia phone and I ended up taking it off of that as well.
I really liked the Zagg body glove on my wife's phone but hers is not a touch screen.
Oh well, live and learn.
I had the Zagg shield put on the Acer A500 and I like the feel of it. Easy to clean and seems to reduce some glare.
I paid Best Buy $15 to put it on. Best decision.
I watched the BB person apply the shield. The process took about 20 minutes, and she got it right the first time.
After watching, I am convinced that I would have messed it up.
The stylus is useless with the the zagg cover right?

no screen protector since day 1 (bought sometime in Feb/Mar) and still on perfect condition. It has gorilla glass: http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/htc
so IMHO I don't think you need to worry. I've learned this with my hero. stupid me putting a screen protector not knowing the glass itself has better scratch resistance than the screen protector I bought.
a little off topic, I'm looking for the perfect case though. as stelth300 stated, the chrome part (and probably the metal back) does seem to need a good case.
I got mine the day it came out, whenever that was, and never used a case or screen cover. I have a few small scratches on the middle of the screen, but you can only see them when the screen is off. Also the coating on my battery door is starting to peel away in some spots. And the metal ring around the camera lens fell off.
I dragged a key on it to test it. It wouldnt scratch. Gorilla glass!
As you'll see here, the MT4G has Gorilla Glass, so it is exceptionally tough. I've seen people drag keys across it and there isn't a scratch after.

I feel the same about my old G1. The screen doesn't feel near as tough as my MT4G's. Maybe there are different versions of Gorilla Glass, and the newer phones have a tougher model.

This is true, I have never been able to get it perfectly, and I can't smooth out all the bubbles either. It's annoying to look at sometimes but there's not much i can do about it. Sometimes I don't use a case so I have my phone with other things in my pockets.
run mine naked, ended up with a minor scratch most likely from something in my pocket. I have to really look for it when the screen is off, don't even notice when screen is on. Had mine since release.
My wife on the other hand... I think it was the first 2 weeks before she managed to put a scratch in the screen. I think she dropped it in the car onto a upward pointing nail file.
Had mine since about a month before it was officially announced to be released.
Never used a screen protector.
I dont have a case and also have dropped the phone NUMEROUS times, on the concrete, face down (in fact, more times than I can remember- and probably an ongoing couple of times a week, at normal ))
I have a very minimal amount of "scratches" on the screen; however there is a very small sort of dent on the the edge from the impact of one of the falls.

I did and always have had one on all my other phones. I wasn't happy with the display after that. I "drop bank" on a fine phone and was diminishing the quality of what i saw on the screen, so I took it off. The display was one of the features i bought the phone for.

I wouldn't put a cheap screen protector on my phone, but I would prob rather have a cheap one than nothing. Zagg and/or Skintech I can say from personal experience are amazing, must have screen protector(s) for any device. You will not be disappointed with either purchase. Today my Atrix, iPad and Captivate are all protected with them (plus Otterbox) and they all look like they just came out the box, they are completely flawless like they just come off the factory line. A finger has never touched the screens.

I've never used a screen protector on any of my phones and I've had A LOT. And I've never had even a tiny scratch on any of them.
It goes down to how you treat your phone. Ofcourse handling it like a Gorilla will screw it up. No Glass can save that so by all means if you're one, put the damn protector on other than that, she does look better naked

if you switch phones often, not sure if it's even worth it buying those cheap screen protectors even if they are like 1 dollar.
if you switch phones a lot, don't bother, but if you want no scratches, you should have just put on a screen protector before you really used it.
you can really see the scratches when you are using your phone unless it's a deep huge scratch. i have a bunch of hairline scratches on my phone, you can even tell when i'm using the phone. when the screen is off, you can spot a few if you look really closely.

I never understood why anyone puts a cheap screen protector on their phone and messes up the quality of the display?....
Just a diff way of lookin at things.
I did and always have had one on all my other phones. I wasn't happy with the display after that. I "drop bank" on a fine phone and was diminishing the quality of what i saw on the screen, so I took it off. The display was one of the features i bought the phone for.

Fixing the appearance of an ugly screen protector is an easy fix. Plus there are many different kinds of screen protectors to choose from. Fixing a scratch, not as easy...

lol its just a package my isp offers
Well, Gorilla-glass IS scratch resistant. But only to a degree. Just like with waterproof watches - that only works a couple of meters near the surface.
To be fair, it's extremely hard to do a noticeable scratch on the Atrix. If you carry it in the pocket for a while, it will get covered with many micro scratches that are barely visible. But to leave a huge scratch on it - you got unlucky mate.
Having said that, I carried my Milestone in the pocket with keys / without screen protector for a year and never had a noticeable scratch.
Gorillag-glass works, but it's not a perfect remedy.

S4 Screen Protector

I'm looking for a screen protector for my S4. Given my history with them, I'm trying to find a 'Protector for Dummies' brand. Any suggestions?

There are several great brands out there, I've had good experiences with Zagg, Skinomi, and Armorsuit Military Shield. Though the latter of the three is a bit more "stretchy" than the others (from what I remember). Another brand that has felt most like not having a screen protector on at all was REALOOK, I had their Crystal Clear protector on my GS2 and really liked the way it felt and looked. You couldn't tell there was a screen protector on the thing. I did find it to scratch though. I've had great experiences with their Customer Service too, I had a little "glue booger" on the sticky side and when I contacted them about it, they sent me another two pack for free. It also kept me from breaking my wife's screen. I chunked a door stop (on with a screen on one end) onto our bed, not knowing her phone was there. It landed screw side directly onto her phone's screen, and it sounded HORRIBLE. The screen protector received a little hold poked in it, but the screen itself was perfectly fine, not a scratch. Now, the phone would have likely been just as protected with ANY of the ones I mentioned, the realook just so happened to be the one I assaulted this time. Having said all that, I decided to try Armorsuit again on the GS4, and I am mostly pleased... I can tell it has a screen protector on it, but it doesn't really bother me that much.
Realook is the only one that I mentioned that is not a wet application protector, so there is less "forgiveness" in getting it on straight. Both wet and dry applications have their pluses and minuses. But, if you want something that is more forgiving in the installation process, you would likely want to go with one of the wet application screen protectors.
Good luck!

No problem, check amazon for them, they usually have several different types of protectors, but I honestly didn't even LOOK at them for this phone, so I'm not sure they are available (thought I couldn't imagine why not).

Ha, just checked Amazon. They only listed 1 model specifically for the S4 & it was a dry installation. I could have easily overlooked others though.

Unfortunately, realook ONLY has dry installation, the other brands I mentioned are the wet applications, and I believe all the others have a lifetime warranty if I'm not mistaken.
You can't go wrong with any of them, but I will say that the armorsuit protector doesn't feel as much like glass as the realook did. It is ALMOST "tacky" feeling, but not quite... it's hard to describe.

Spigen Glas TR Slim.
spigen.com
It is a tempered glass SP. It protects your screen from cracking and shattering as well as scratches. It is a dry install but super easy. Even easier if you have painters tape to make a hinge to place it down from the side.
I also suggest grabbing the aluminum home key buttons. It comes with 3. Red, black and silver. They raise the home button a bit to make pressing it easier because of the screen protector.
This is a bit expensive, but completely worth every penny.
