3 people including myself cant send of receive test msgs.
when i try to send one i get the msg "sprint the recipient you are sending to has chosen not to recieve messages. msg2111"
i googled this and came up with old out dated info
anyone else having issues
btw all three phones are android, one is a evo the other 2 are samsungs, i think and we are not on the same plan. but we are all on sprint.
That's the message you get when someone either has all incoming text messages blocked or has your specific number blocked from texting them.
There's a network issue right now. None of my lines can text each other.
very strange, my gf is having the same issue and so is her daughter.
also, the last couple of days no one has been respoding to my texts, i either am a looser or theres somehing goin on with sprint. or a little bit of both.
i think its sprint becasue my gf wouldnt know how to block texts and i get the same msg when i try to text myself.
of course its too late now for me to try to text a non sprint user or have a non sprint user text me.
106am update: my gf just called sprint and apparently there was some little pre recorded msg saying something about text service being temporaily down
Same here all 3 of my lines can't text each other but can text other non-sprint numbers

You can pretend all day long that other carriers don't have issues...but they do. Plenty.
Same here in Ohio.. Must be a nationwide thing.. I can't text anyone no matter what service they use.. Can't even BAL my bank for balance. Amazing how it worked at like Midnight with no problems, now it's down.

truth. you just don't hear about it often cuz you're probably browsing this forum alot more often if not only this forum.
i worked at a competing carrier. there are always constant problems everywhere you go.
Just talked to customer service. It is pretty much nationwide, and get this..... HE SAID IT COULD BE DOWN FOR 48 HOURS!

Any one else receiveing phone calls from random long distance numbers lately? They hang up as soon as I answer. But everyone I have talked to on Sprint is getting the same thing happening. It's happened 4 times to me today. 3 to my wife and 3 to her cousin. And a few other people.

I actually think they sell our numbers too. For about 3 months I was getting calls from debt collectors asking for someone named "Laurie Wheeler", who I obviously am not. They kept calling no matter what I said to them (I even got so PO'd that I started swearing at them), so eventually I just asked Sprint to change my number. I haven't had any weirdass calls since.
I've not received any strange calls...LOL. You guys are wrongly paranoid about Sprint IMO.
My advice to you is to be cautious when including your phone number on any promotion, advertisement or to any company that may resell your information.
I had to opt out of solicitation recently when signing up electricity and gas for my house.. WTH?
A couple years ago they started allowing you to add your cell phone to the federal no call list. www.donotcall.gov I also have found that the call/hangup is very common from Capital One if you have an account with them. Just type the number into google and it will sometimes tell you who it is.
Its very common to get recycled numbers. I found this out when i was using prepaid services for a long time. Tmobile is notorious for this and sprint is as well. I would every now get a call asking for the same person from debt collectors. Call sprint and ask if your number is recycled from a overdue or past account.
Sprint likes to give out numbers before the mandatory 1 year holding period that is required after a phone number has been deactivated. When this happens, if the person before you is in serious debt and you get their number, the collectors will call you, call you and call you and will not stop, even if you tell them you will be contacting your lawyer for phone harassment because the person they're looking for is not YOU.
I kept getting calls from the same debt collection agency. They were looking for "Michael Vampas".
Most I ever got were a few spam texts saying that I should reply to get free something or another for 9.99 a month. I just ignored the texts and it stopped.

I may be going to the Evo, we'll see. Sprint offered me a different model phone finally and I'm going to go for the evo. Third hero from them and their repair/refurb people can't seem to get it right... They said I have to pay sales tax on it though, which I found amazingly strange.
I will never leave the Hero forums, though, that was what got me into Android in the first place and I really wish I could still have a hero...
How did you swing that? Im on my 4th defective hero and they told me they will not replace them anymore. That they can only do so many replacements per year. I have insurance too. Oh yeah and if you do get an evo, it will probably ship with the new patch that prevents root. No work around yet either!

Correct spelling is traitor.
And I was pissed enough to be willing to pay the ETF on this line and close my other brand new line if they didn't take care of the issue by sending me a different model phone due to the circumstances. I'e been with them for a little over 3 years now and always been good with my bills and such so they try to keep me happy, and I really do appreciate that. The guy said I could pick the phone so I checked out online and decided to go with the Evo even though I'll probably never get 4g. It's the only other phone comparable to the Hero and that is made by HTC, since I like the HTC product.
Only thing is, though, is that he said they'd be back in stock in approx 2 weeks... well... I leave for vacation on the 21st and if they're back in in exactly 2 weeks, that puts it at the 20th. Plus 2 days for shipping and I'll have a phone sitting outside my garage for 2 weeks.
Can someone who works for Sprint, like a rep I'd get a hold of if I dialed *2, let me know what the expected arrival date is for more Evo's, please? I really need to stay on top of this so I can get it if they come in earlier. I can't have that phone sitting outside for 2 weeks. I'd owe you one if you could do this for me. PM me or whatever!

I'm pretty sure that after 3 or 4 replacements, you're allowed to switch the phone out for a new model... At least that's how it was for my sisters blackberry.

ASL - Account spending limit --- your bill usually shows if you are part of the program. You also get a $4.99 fee / month on your bill if your not on auto-pay and part of the ASL program.
You also need to be in an area where its avail. -- its not avail everywhere, http://sprint.com/airave click where is it avail. Put your zip in.
Also don't just ask for one. That's rude. Explain that you don't have signal in your house, your diggin your new phones but dropped calls in home are worth the ETFs to you and the high cost if you can't get your signal in your house, and then see if they will help you out.

There is no way in hell you are going to get an evo from sprint and only pay sales tax. If you did you must be sucking someone off because they wanted to ship me another refurb hero, i told them to shove it. i talked to 6 people and spent 3hrs on the phone with them. one guy actually told me he could get me an evo but of course the dipshi* didn't note the account. i hate sprint with a passion. they told me in the end that they are giving evo's out to no one for free, if you want one you have to pay full price or wait until your upgrade and pay the difference. what a bunch of crap!
Oh well in a few months im sure i will be able to pick one up on craiglist for $150 or so.
FYI this would be my 4th replacement hero in 6 months.
I also didn't mean any offense towards the OP but im pissed right now! I even offered to pay the difference on the evo if they would push my upgrade status up.

Sprint.com is out of stock for them. Getting it replaced when they come back in stock, in about 10 days or so.
Okay, just just get something out of the way here: Only try to get one of these if your service is really bad at house/office.
1: Make sure you actually have dropped calls. Ours were over 5% which is considered really bad, I guess.
2: Call tech support, wait to get connected, then act dumb an say that you've already been through the tech support stuff and you've been talking to a person in retentions for the past half-hour. They'll say well how'd you get to me? Just say that the guy in retentions said that he was putting you on hold to check into getting you a free airave; you've already been through troubleshooting with him.
3: The person in tech support will transfer you back to somebody in retentions and bring them up to where you're at.
4: Tell the person in retentions should go ahead and start the order and then you're set.
5: Is optional. You can have your call drop them, then they'll call you back and you can make a joke about how crappy the service is. (Actually happened to me)
I took the long way through this today, but started in retentions, got tranfs to tech support after checking the drop call rate and doing some basic troubleshooting, then told the guy in TS that I'd been through it all the last last guy in Relations was checking into a free airave for me, but somehow got transfered to him, ect.
I also started out by telling the first guy in retentions that I'd taken 2 phones to the corp store, they had done some PR update (act stupid about it) and now those two phones always have some ^ above the bars at the office, but the service works great and the data speeds can actually load a website in under 3 minuets. The data service at our office has been 0.02 kbps for over a month now, which is why I did the PRL hack in the first place on the two office phones 2 weeks back.
Anyhow, it's on it's way and didn't take that long.
They do check your area and if they feel you are in a good signal area they will not give it to you for free. I only say this because when I called he told me as long as my area qualifies for free airave service he will be able to do it if not I have the option to purchase one. Luckily after he checked the computer he said "great news u qualify". so this will not work for everyone, and it does connect to gps and reports where the device is connected. So good luck, im sure sprint gonna get stormed with calls and eventually they will catch on.

Don't think so cuz you gotta talk to the retentions department...i hate talking to them too cuz of those damn scripts they follow, it's like talking to human robots!
Also should mention don't get caught in a lie about talking to them cuz they do have a record of when you call and what department you talked to. So I'm sure if they know you lied they probably will give you a hard time and might make a note on your account that you lied and who knows they might be reluctant to go out of their way for you in the future, I know I wouldnt want to help a liar. So what if you have to be on the phone with them for awhile your getting something for free if your lucky so not really a reason to *****....
The guys I got didn't talk like robots for once, and they were probably from America. I was surprised. They also seemed quite personable.

Haha, That would be funny. Ask a CSR out on a date, then get married down the road. That would be better than a myspace marriage.
Got one quickly
In our condo, my girlfriend's BB Curve and my Evo averaged 1 bar. While online checking our account, I decided to just email sprint and ask for an airave. Went to "contact us", left a messege and the next day we got a call from customer service, 10 minutes latter we were approved, two days latter got it in the mail, hooked it up last night, and now we are at five bars each. I am not saying it will be that easy for everyone, but for once in my life it was!
Very interesting, was thinking of trying this but figure I got no use for the Airave for now...
I get average -104 to -118 dbs which I heard -120 is no service. This is at my house. I get data roaming message and dropped calls. Went into Sprint and said I couldn't get one for free or heard of giving them out for free. Sucks I don't have internet to use it even if I did call and got one. Do you have to pay the 4 bucks a month for it or is that waived. Waived or not id use it.. just no internet.

If you got it from retentions it is free and the monthly fee is waived. When you go to your account and it lists your devices, it should say retentions next to the Airave.
So if a person were to have terrible 3G speeds they still wouldn't help? My reception is weird, no dropped calls or anything but my reception can shoot up from two bars to four, or six. But my 3G is ALWAYS bad in the town I'm in. Any ideas?

Worked to a tee. Called Tech got transferred and in less then 5 minutes the girl in retention was putting in my order! She did put me on hold for a couple of minutes to confirm my eligibility. It's on the way for free with no monthly charge.
Awesome tip, thanks again!
So a couple of weeks ago, my gf got mad at me because she sent me a nice "good night" text and I didn't reply. I apologized and told her I didn't get anything. She got over it.
Tuesday night, it happened again. Then the night after that. Then last night again. I called a couple of friends that I text with often, asked them if they had waited for replies from me recently and got nothing--4 of them said yes and recited their last texts to me. Not one of them I received.
I just got off the phone with tech support--the "specialized" Android support to be specific. She asked if the msgs in question were MMS, and I said no. Then she asked if I had trouble with voice calls, and I said no. The she explained to me that SMS is delivered the same way as a voice call and that if I have problems with SMS, I should be having voice call trouble as well. Then she asks how often I delete my msgs. I tell her, at most, once or twice a month. Then she tells me that I should be cleaning out msgs EVERY DAY and that "Android devices can't handle having more than 40-50 msgs at a time without causing trouble for the software and the handset." Not even THREADS, but singular text msgs.
Are you freakin' serious? I paid $350 for a "smartphone" with a plan that costs $100 a month, and I can't keep more than 40 msgs on my phone without running the risk of me missing a few here and there? And since when did this come about? I had a G1 where I could flick 3 times to scroll through my inbox of texts. I've had 20-30 THREADS on my Slide before and only started having problems a couple weeks ago. What about June and July?
Sorry, this is turning into a rant--mostly just to vent, but maybe, just maybe someone else might have an explanation for while some msgs get through and some don't. Hell, I'd feel better just knowing I'm not the only one going through this.
I've been planning to ditch my Slide for the November phone (hopefully a myTouch HD/Desire HD like device), but what's the point when I'm gonna be subject to spotty textroulette.

It is rare to find someone who knows anything of use about Android working at TMO. I'm on my 2nd Android handset and I regularly have 100+ texts in my threads...never had a problem. Are all your friends on Sprint? They have terrible time receiving and sending SMS.

I've been planning to ditch my Slide for the November phone (hopefully a myTouch HD/Desire HD like device), but what's the point when I'm gonna be subject to spotty textroulette.

The tech who told you that, to be blunt, was lying. Intentionally or not is another question, but the statement she gave you is entirely untrue.
I have threads with THOUSANDS of messages in them, and probably about 30 threads with a few hundred each, and never had any issues.
What application do you use for text messages?
TMo Customer service is the absolute worst. Everyone tells you something different, It took us about 3 weeks to clear up everything with our slides. They made us return our phones just to buy the same exact ones again under another plan, and cancel the other plan. After this, 3G wasn't applying on the phones, so they made us mail the phones in this time to get new ones sent back and to change our plan yet again. Plus side of their stupidity is they forgot to cancel the rebates of the original phones and we got $400 back lol.
I've had thousands as well.
My only problem was slowdown, so now I clear any over like 500.

Are all your friends on Sprint? They have terrible time receiving and sending SMS.

My gf is on Tmo, a friend on Verizon, another on Sprint, and 2 with iPhones. My phone seems to be equal opportunity when it comes to text denial.

So have I, on my G1 and my Slide. I knew it wasn't true. I guess these ppl are just used to dealing with folks that don't know any better and trust them to be the end-all authority on what's wrong with their phone. She asked me to power down my phone and then proceeded to tell me how to do it, explaining where the power button is and to hold it down for 2 seconds... SMH.
I use ChompSMS but I doubt that matters. I checked the default Messaging app when I was suspicious of the missed msgs and they weren't there either.
I've never deleted any sms from my phone. I have put several ROMs on it, so they get deleted that way. Simply because I am too lazy to back them up and then restore them. I used to have problems sending texts to people on Verizon. They just simply wouldn't go through. After switching to the Slide though, I haven't had any problems at all with sms.
I have never had to delete messages either. However as of late it might take two tries to send a message. Tmo has treated me well. I think the person you spoke with didn't know there @ss from a hole in the ground.

I've noticed that I have to try and send msgs twice lately too.
I've loved T-Mobile for a while. Never had anything bad to say. I've been a customer since they were Voicestream (in HI anyway). I just hate getting lame ass answers. I know majority of the Android customers are probably clueless and will believe what they're told by "tech support," but giving BS answers doesn't help anyone and only pisses off the ppl who actually know about what their phones are capable of.
I had sms sending problem until I switched to cm6, half of mine failed to send and then some people said they got two when I hit resend

Damn I hate having to hear about all these bad experiences with Tmo tech care cuz I work there lol. Bottom line: that idiot woman who told you you can't have more than 50 messages is a complete moron who has never owned an Android phone before in her life. I work in tech care and have seen people with over 3000 messages on their G1 before they even see a force close error. This lady was a moron, clearly. Not only that, but she definitely didn't follow Tmobile's troubleshooting steps either. It definitely sounds like she just wanted to get off the call quickly. Again, it sucks cuz I have to deal with pissed off customers like yourself everyday, and most are pissed because of other reps who don't know jack **** about these phones. Honestly I don't understand it, there are these dumbasses who work around these awesome Android phones all day long and still somehow think their Blackberry Bold is superior. That's the kind of douchebag woman you talked to hehe.
So this problem carried on throughout the weekend. Botched a lot of plans that I was trying to make Sunday and yesterday. Really, really annoyed at this point.
stoney: Any chance you have a better answer? I'm really thinking about leaving T-Mo if this continues. I don't want to but I can't keep paying $100/month for hit or miss texts and customer service that gives me the runaround.
I quit T-Mo about six months ago due to my bosses wanting me to sell the phone and move on to the next customer. T-Mobile is like just about any other company. They only worry about their bottom line. I was tech support for my store because I actually had an answer most of the time. 20 phone calls on your day off can really piss of your wife. The only thing we used tech support for is if we had a unit that had to be replaced. In three years, I never met a tech rep that could answer a question I had. They read from a monitor. They enter your question, it runs through some procedures, and if it does not work, they make up an answer, or exchange the unit. Sad but true. Don't ask T-Mo a question if you need a GOOD answer.
I've been having these sms problems too. I got a couple sms dropped so I guess I should off the stock rom.
Fellow Sprint and Epic users!
I would like to post this warning to everyone who uses Sprint.
Recently I have received couple text messages from five digit numbers (25870 and 77050) which looked totally like SPAM. I blocked them through iMr.Number Android application and did not think much of it.
Yesterday I got a bill from Sprint which was more than my usual amount. To my surprise I found those numbers as a subscriptions for $9.99 a pop. I immediately call Sprint and they told me that I did not requested blocking of the text messages that can cost me money and that since I did not replay to those messages with stop request I've been subscribed to them.
I requested immediate blocking of all messages and had those charges taken off my bill.
So, based on my experience I would strongly encourage everyone to call Sprint and place a request to block all text messages that can cost you money.
You've been warned!
Thanks for the heads up. I had an issue like that last year.

I had this issue too, the only down side is you can't send texts to those numbers either (the taco bell Galaxy Tab giveaway was the only time i've ever tried)

Those spammers are sneaky. We got our son a cheap Nokia on our family plan six or so years ago. The spammers figured out that those things had something like an 80-character text message limit, so they'd send the initial message with the unsubscribe information past 80 characters. I wouldn't have believed if if I hadn't seen one of the messages for myself. We got a premium messaging block on the number and while Sprint reversed some of the charges, we had to go directly to some of the companies to get our money back. I had to threaten to go to the state Attorney General to get one of them to cough up. Turns out that particular company was under investigation by multiple state AG offices for that sort of sneaky behavior.
So yes, you have to be diligent on these things.
(And yes, the kid DID need a phone, and he was very responsible with it.)
This is why whenever I get a spamtxt at the soonest chance I go to Sprint's site and block the number. Luckily it's only happened a few times. However what the OP says is BS on Sprint's part because txt services should (can?) only be opt in. If the spammer never gets a reply to opt in then it should not be considered a legit service charge, period.
And ALWAYS look at your bill. Since I have no overages it's always around the same amount but I still look at it. When it changes, like when TEP went up by a buck recently, I looked very closely.
Idk how buti got one the other da saing my crush had a meassage for me... and I replied sop like it said... but idk how they got my #.

They run random number generators among other tactics. It costs next to nothing.
**** the companies, this is sprints fault, they are the ones billing you, its not legal for someone to send you something and force you to cancel to not get billed
Is there any third party confirmation of this sort of thing happening? I have to admit the whole story sounds a little suspect. I've never heard of opt out texting scams that automatically charge your bill (and carriers can't just disable text based transactions either--or you wouldn't have seen things like the big red cross donation campaign).
Forum threads are a great place to read anecdotal stories, but if this was for real, there ought to exist a report on it somewhere. If not, honestly I'm leaning more toward operator error.
My wife actually dealt with this via American Eagle they started automatically sending her text messages for discounts that we were billed for by sprint. We don't really know what she did other than order online to start the service. Sprint did refund the charges but warned that if it happened again they wouldn't waive them again.

I've team into similar ****. Mine was opposite where I replied stop but they told sprint I signed up. Sprint had the balls to call me a liar. They did evetually refund me when I told them to prove it.

As I said on the previous page, it happened to my son. As I said, this was a few years ago, but this was about the time that newer phones went to 120 and 140 character text messaging capabilities and older ones still had 80. So they'd craft their messages so the message telling the recipient to text "stop" back to opt out appeared past that 80 character limit.
These days they rely on people to delete messages from people not in their contact list. And even in these days anyone can leave YOUR cell phone number on a signup page and you'll find yourself subscribed to something. This is one other other things that happened to my son. He was very careful about giving out his number, but someone got hold of a phone belonging to one of his friends and thought it would be funny to sign the guys friends up for that crap.
Ah, for the days of prank pizza deliveries and Playboy subscriptions...
Sprint can block text messages that can cost you, BUT YOU HAVE TO CALL THEM AND ASK TO DO IT. They do not block it by default because they think we want this feature. It will take a 30 min of you time but might save you a few bucks (sounds like Geico commercial ).
