i was trying to flash the 1.8.3 SBF to my phone, and the first time it stopped at 88% and failed. I waited a while, unplugged the device, pulled the battery, entered RSD mode again and tried the flash again. it failed at the same point. this time, however, the phone won't enter RSD mode anymore. if I pull the battery, hold VOL-UP and the power button, it just boots the red M screen and does nothing.
is there something i'm missing? is my phone hard bricked?

That same exact thing happened to me last night trying to flash back to 1.2.6. I had to hold down both up and down volume buttons while it powers up. It worked for me. Hope it will work for you.

A similar situation..
Did you try just leaving it alone for a bit. Mine said that the restore failed in a similar situation, but I left it alone for a bit and it booted (semi)normally... What the heck!?
Its worth a try. My system was patched just enough to boot properly. Its a shot of luck, but maybe yours was too

I think I may have bricked my phone beyond repair. I initially had a problem rooting my dx after the .340 update. I flashed to .320 using rsd lite. That seemed to do the trick. I was able to reroot. I created a nandroid backup.
Last night my phone died. I put on the wall charger for a couple hours. Now the device boots to the moto screen and freezes. I was able to get into recover using the home button. I used the recovery and the device was fixed...i thought. It only lasted about 10 min. Now I am back at the moto screen. I have access to recovery but not bootstrap...the factory recovery. I tried a factory reset no luck. I have done battery pulls w/wo sd card...no luck. Also I have no access to the bootloader any more.
Any ideas or am I outta luck?
No bootloader.. weird. I think you are out of luck. try vol up and vol dwn while phone is off then hit the power button to turn phone on keep holding the vol buttons until a exclamation mark appears then let go of vol keys hit the search button. see it that boots you into recovery.
For bootloader access...hold volume down and camera button after doing a battery pull.
For stock recovery after a battery pull...hold home and camera button, release home at M screen, wait for triangle press search key, data/cache wipe and factory reset, reboot.
For clockwork...plug phone into wall charger, battery pull, wait for green screen, put battery back in and clockwork should be there
verizon is overnighting me a new phone. the rep said the last .340 update had corrupt files.
thanks for all the support. i appreciate it!
Hey guys, I need your help. My phone battery died and the phone wouldn't boot past the M screen. I could get to bootloader but not recovery. So I SBFd. Same issue. Here is what I've done, I'm at my wits end.
1. Put phone in bootloader
2. Connected it, recognized by pc, used RSD 5.44 to flash .602
3. RSD says please manually power up the phone. Disconnect USB. (Also tried with usb still connected)
4. Battery pull, put it back in bootloader
5. Re connected, RSD says pass.
6. Pulled battery, tried to restart, same stuck at M screen issue.
7. Can't access recovery. Sometimes it will get there, but it won't let me access the menu.
8. Tried pressing both volume buttons a million times, nothing.
9. Once, menu in recovery flashed up, but disappeared immediately.
10. Put it back into bootloader and SBF'd again, with redownloaded file.
11. Repeat all of this 3x.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG! HELP!
Make sure your battery is charged and SBF using the Linux method.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
So you think the SBF's aren't working for some reason? Should I still be using .602 or should I try .340?
Downloading the linux iso now...
Okay, sbf'd with linux method, same issue.
I can get to recovery by holding down the home and power buttons and then hitting the vol up/down buttons. It won't bring me to recovery unless i actually hit the volume buttons. Once in recovery, it doesn't respond to the volume buttons being pressed so I can't pull up the menu.
Any ideas?
What rom were you using when this happened?

If you were on stock .621, you have to SBF to .621.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
It was stock .605, I had to SBF back in march.
I guess my issue now is this: I can sometimes get to the recovery screen, but the menu never appears. I've tried pressing the search button and hitting vol. up/down at the same time, and I haven't once gotten the menu to pop up so I can clear data.
Is there some way to wipe cache through adb using the bootloader?
So everything was running fine - i was on the last CM7 build ( maniacs final ) with a BL7 defy, left it on charge overnight and when i came ot it this morning its stuck on the red M logo and wont boot - and recovery has gone as well - no blue LED.
I can boot into the bootloader, but thats about it, the standard recovery menu wont appear either.
need help fast - please....
Ive just tried re-flashing the SBF files as per the instructions on rooting a bl7 defy, while it appeared to go OK, the phone is still stuck on the red motorola logo - no blue LED - please help....
Recovery mode doesnt work, after pulling the battery and re-starting i t whilst pressing power down, the only thing that happens is a red motorola logo, and there it stays.
please help...... ive got three hours to fix this.

Power it off fully by taking out the battery and wait for a few minutes. Then press Vol- and then power button, till ! mark comes. Then press both Vol+ and vol-.

the weird thing is that it bricked itself after running fine for the last few weeks.

Hmmm, that worked for me. Took out the battery, left it for 2 minutes. I put back the battery, nothing happened. Then I realized that the phone had gone off so I did what I told you.
I can get to the bootloader with no problem, stock recovery on the other hand is completely absesnt

You're not doing it correctly I suspect. However, flash an sbf and try.
By not doing it right, what do you mean?? this is what ive been doing take out battery - wait - replace battery and then hold power button down then hold the power button while keeping the volume down key pressed
RSD lite is showing the device as Omap3630 and imei as N/A

What I mean is that when you put the battery back, the phone should not switch on (the moto symbol should not come)
As long as it shows in RSDlite, its all good.

THE BLUE LED ONLY COMES WHEN CUSTOM RECOVERY IS INSTALLED.
SEE GOOGLE ON HOW TO ENTER STOCK RECOVERY. IF YOU MANAGED TO USE RSDLITE THEN I'M SURE YOU CAN GO TO STICK RECOVERY.
When you put back the battery, does the phone start? If it does then remove it and wait a little longer and try. It should work, it has worked for me. Plus If it shows in rsdlite you can try flashing to stock.

Problem solved, Hardware problem, or to be more precise a build up of dust ( fine sand??) behind the volume rocker after a strip down nd clean it worked.
end result defy now running.
I rooted with CF-auto method, phone worked fine. I downloaded CWM Rom Manager and downloaded CWM Recovery through the app. I decided to try and flash TRiforce 5.4 as my first ROM. Selected to back up everything and wipe clean with a full install. Towards the end There was a fatal error. It said it needed to be rebooted. I clicked reboot now. It said something about AROMA installer. Then rebooted. It showed the Galaxy s4 logo, then went black. I waited and waited and waited. And nothing happened. I tried pressing power and nothing would happen. I eventually pulled the battery out and reinserted. Upon pressing power, the same thing. It would show Galaxy s4 logo then go to black. I thought perhaps my battery died during install. Tried plugging in to A/C adapter and the battery logo pops up but the circle that usually continues to flow in a circle just freezes and does not flow. No light turns on to indicate charging. If I unplug the charger it is still frozen on the same charge screen. I popped my battery into a friends s4 and it charges fine, and is still at about 50% power. I've tried vol up+home+power, vol down+home+power and they both get the same results, just the galaxy s4 logo, then black screen. No booting whatsoever. Does this mean my phone is now bricked?:crying:
edit, vol down+ power has just gotten me into download mode! I guess I'll download a stock rom tomorrow and flash it via odin. Sucks because i don't have internet at my house. I'm at the library right now... 15 hours to dl stock rom lol...

Try going into recovery mode again by pressing get down the volume down and home button than finally the power button. The phone should vibrate and then as soon as the Samsung logo comes out let go of the buttons or else the phone will reboot again. Time it right so it goes into recovery

Have you fixed this issue, volume up +home+power is recovery mode, volume down+home+power is to download mode then u press up to complete
Rezzing old thread, I know. But I'm leaving this here in case anyone is poking around for clues to their s4 not powering on.
I have one that does not power on, as in bo combination of "press this and that..." is going to work (as if that isnt the first step in troubleshooting...I know not everyone does it right, but its really annoying when any post mentioning no power on/not responding to any key presses or charger plugin is full of "just try harder to boot it" posts..... Anyways...) The power pins register about half a volt, surging around from 100mV to ~3V . The battery does not charge and there us a constant slowly draining voltage on the power pins while unplugged and no battery.
The only clue Ive found so far us a youtube video of a no power on S4 having its power IC replaced which fixed it. Unfortunately I dont have the tools currently to try it, so at least mine, is still dead in the water.....
Hey guys my wife's S7 edge (SM-G935W8, Canadian variant) started rebooting and boot looping for a few days until it suddenly rebooted and stayed on with a black screen and the notification LED stayed blue until the battery died. Even holding home, power and volume down didn't do anything...
The phone was never rooted and completely stock. I just tried reinstalling stock firmware with Odin and everything went well as I got a pass but it still won't boot and gets stuck with black screen and blue LED.
Does this sound like a dead phone? I can't get into stock recovery, only download mode once the battery dies.
Just wondering if it's fixable.
Thanks

As the device switched off press the Power Button together with the Volume Button down, when the device vibrates, release the Power button and only keep the volume down button until the device starts up to the start screen appear.

You can enter download mode right ?
why don't you try installing TWRP recovery with ODIN
Go to TWRP website... and find your device
download .img.tar file
open odin and insert this file in AP tab and in the option tab (disable "auto reboot" )
( plug your phone via usb to your PC.)
on the log it will show (added)
hit start
once installed...press and hold vol down + home +power key (while it restarts) press and hold vol up + home+power key
You will now enter TWRP Recovery...swipe to allow modifications
wipe - > advanced wipe -> except sd card...select everything and wipe them (all your data will be gone)
now install any custom rom from this site..

yes i know but have you tried it ? i thought advanced wipe might help as it will remove everything.
My S7 edge is also having similar issue. It just died 4 days ago at 5 percent battery and red LED kept blinking. I tried to hard reboot using Power + Vol Down, it didn't work. I couldn't get into the Download mode either. It doesn't charge when connected to the charger, not detected on any computer as well. Any thoughts?

I plugged it in last night, after the battery was completely drained. It's been a week since the issue.
It was fine till this morning. I inserted the SIM cards and then connected to the laptop. I thought I would backup the data using smart switch before doing a factory reset. The backup went fine till 75% and then boom again turned off. This time there's a lot of battery left, and I might have to wait 4-5 days before it can be drained completely. But I'm now hopeful that it'll eventually turn on and when it does I'll immediately do a factory reset before doing anything else. I'm suspecting that a rogue app might be causing it. This time it might have happened while that app is being backed up. The LED is constant Red this time indicating the state it was connected to the laptop at the time of incident.
It turned on again last night when I connected the charger. It was showing the charging symbol. After 5-6 minutes of charge I tried to hold Vol - + Power buttons briefly to reset the device and it went off again. It's lying like a brick currently.
No sign of life again!
